Air fryer review. What is an air fryer. Key Features of the Air Fryer

Each owner of a deep fryer, for sure, remembers liters of boiling oil, clouds of smoke from it and french fries lying in piles of paper towels in order to absorb all the same excess oil. Then the grate, the bowl and the device itself are washed for a long time and tediously from the boiled vegetable oil. Fortunately, technology does not stand still. A new generation device - an air fryer - capable of frying french fries in one spoonful of oil! So, let's find out the whole truth about this device.

Air fryer: what is it

The air fryer is electrical appliance in a case made of plastic or stainless steel, designed for frying food. Products are placed in a mesh bowl with a handle, which is blown with hot air streams thanks to the built-in heating element and convector. There is a control panel on the body of the device. The most important feature of the air fryer is that the deep fryer fries without oil and fat, that is, you need 1 tablespoon of deep fat for a serving of french fries.

The main differences between the air fryer and the first generation fryers are that:

  • it is much easier to take care of a modern device: all components can be trusted dishwasher;
  • no more need to buy liters of deep-frying oil - 10 grams per kilogram of food is enough;
  • the cooking time has decreased significantly, since there is no need to heat 1.5-2 liters of deep fat;
  • dishes cooked in modern appliance, much less harmful than those cooked in a classic deep fryer.

According to its characteristics, the device resembles an air grill, but it is more compact and spends much less time on cooking.

The principle of operation of the air fryer

The air fryer is arranged in almost the same way as the classic one: pieces of food are placed in a lattice basket. By the way, to make it easier to remove the finished dish from it, experienced users recommend lubricating the grate with a brush with a small amount of vegetable oil. There is no deep-frying bowl here, if you still need to add a spoonful of oil for taste, it is poured directly onto the food. Excess oil will simply drain onto the sump.

Cooking order:

  1. Plug in the appliance.
  2. Insert the basket into the device.
  3. Lubricate the grid of the basket with a brush with oil.
  4. Put the products in the basket.
  5. Use the timer to set the cooking time.
  6. Set the desired cooking temperature. At this moment, the top of the device turns on heating element, which heats the air in the device within 80-200 degrees. With the help of a convector, this air circulates inside the device, frying the food evenly.
  7. After the products are fried and browned, the basket is removed from the appliance.
  8. If the cooking process is over, the basket must be washed and dried; if the next entry is planned, you must wait until the device has cooled down. After that, you can cook further.
  9. Do not forget to turn off the device from the network.

Before the holiday, Philips gave me their air fryer for a test drive. Of course, not for my personal pleasure, but for selfish purposes. You can consider me corrupt, but I agreed, especially since Marianna Orlinkova from the Gastronome has already sung her praises more than once. I will say right away that if Philips had not presented it to me, I would not have bought it in my life. I am extremely skeptical about such things. The representative of the company was warned that I would write to my blog, but to Pracoking, only if I liked this thing very much. I was worried. What to do if it turns out to be a rare ge uninteresting, I did not know.

Everything worked out. Air fryer took sure place in my kitchen. I discovered the ability to cook many high-calorie dishes without oil. Buffalo wings, various meatballs, etc. etc. Everything turns out great.
If in brief about what an air fryer is, here is the info from the site:

The Rapid Air Air Fryer's patented technology delivers delicious, crispy French fries with up to 80% less fat than a regular fryer! The unique combination of rapidly circulating hot air and built-in heating element allows you to fry mouth-watering snacks, chicken, meat and more quickly and easily. When heated with air, less steam is produced and unpleasant odors than conventional frying, and the dishes are easier to clean and use!

Philips especially insists that French fries are excellent in the air fryer. Just imagine eating French fries without the itching feeling of guilt and the distinct sensation of a fifth point growing before your eyes.

Can you make real french fries in an air fryer?

The first question I asked myself was, what is real fries?

I'm not afraid of these words, for the standard I took fries from McDonald's. No, McDonald's didn't give me a bucket of potatoes for this post. And if I gave it, I would refuse, because I'm on a diet. But you must admit, their fries are very good!
After that, I wondered, how does McDolds make french fries?

I won’t translate everything for lack of time and laziness (it’s a very large text).

But I will tell you that the author set out to reveal the secret of McDonald's.
To begin with, he identified 4 characteristics of the perfect french fries.
1. The crust should be very crispy, but not hard.
2. Inside the potato should not be empty, it should be soft and airy and have a pronounced potato flavor.
3. Potatoes should be even golden color.
4. Potatoes should remain tasty and crispy for at least as long as it takes to eat them.
Having defined the criteria, he went to McDonald's to buy a serving of raw frozen fries. Talking about a pregnant woman, and therefore a little country wife, did not help him.

Then he asked for help on his Facebook.

His more resourceful reader, came up with some incredible story, the essence of which I did not fully understand, but it clearly featured Harold McGee. And he did it!

Having studied the potato, our hero noticed that its surface is smooth, but at the same time small bubbles are visible on it, which indicates that it has already been fried once. The size of the potato turned out to be exactly 1/4 inch, which is 2.5 cm: 4 = 63 mm.

Perhaps the researcher decided the matter in the oil? It turned out not. A portion of potatoes, fried by him in ordinary peanut butter, disproved this hypothesis. He got the same potato.

The whole point was that McDonald's was using the traditional double method, but not traditionally. Usually potatoes are fried in oil at a fairly low temperature (about 140-160 degrees), and then at a higher temperature (190-200 degrees). This sequence helps to achieve a crispy crust. The fact is that part of the water in the potato is hidden deeper in it than the other. It takes more energy to push it out. During the first frying, some of the water is evaporated from the potato, allowing the oil to take its place and come into direct contact with the potato cells. At the same time, the water that is hidden deeper remains. Soon the individual starch molecules are released from the larger granules by the action of the hot oil. These molecules come into contact with water molecules, moisturize and form a gel, strengthening the structure of the cells around it. The further the oil penetrates into the potato, the thicker the starch-reinforced cell layer becomes and the denser the outside of the potato becomes.

McDonald's, on the other hand, first boils the potatoes in boiling water for a short time, dips them in hot oil for 50 seconds, freezes them, and then dips them again in very hot oil for 3-4 minutes.
What is all this for?

Cooking in hot water allows to achieve a light golden color instead of dark brown, and also helps the potatoes retain their firmness and integrity when subsequently frying in hot oil. By dipping an almost cooked potato into the oil, you need less time to crust, which means the potatoes are less likely to burn.

The moisture in the potato turns into ice, or rather, sharp, uneven ice crystals. These crystals break down the cellular structure of the potato, making it easier for moisture to escape from the potato and turn into steam. Why is this needed? To quickly form a beautiful crust. That is, it allows you to improve the result achieved by the double method. At the same time, as Katya noticed in this post, due to the fact that the potatoes are very chilled, the outer layer does not overcook, the inner one warms up to the correct temperature, the potatoes turn out to be crispy and keep this crunchiness for a long time.
Behind all this lies a more complex chemical process than I have described here. But I don't have the strength to translate it all. Curious and those who know the language read it yourself. The lazy and the ignorant have something to strive for.

Here's the recipe for you:

1 kg potatoes (about 4 large potatoes)
2 tbsp vinegar
2 liters of vegetable oil
salt
1. Peel the potatoes. Cut off the rounded parts on all sides so that you get a rectangular bar. Cut it into strips 0.6 cm thick, then cut each strip into sticks 0.6 cm thick.
2. Put the potatoes in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes.
3. Put the potatoes in a saucepan, add vinegar, 1 tbsp. salt and 2 liters of water.
4. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Boil 10 minutes. The potatoes should become soft, but should not fall apart.
5. Drain all the water, spread the potatoes on paper towels and leave to dry for 5-10 minutes.
6. At this time, heat the oil in a cast-iron roaster or deep fryer to 200 gr.
7. Using a slotted spoon, dip 1/3 of the potatoes into the oil. The temperature will drop to 180. Cook for 1 minute, stirring occasionally with a slotted spoon. Transfer to paper towels.
8. Repeat with the rest of the potatoes in 2 passes, each time heating the oil again to 200 gr.
9. Let the potatoes cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
10. For best results, freeze potatoes overnight or up to two months.
11. If you are freezing potatoes, use new oil. Heat the oil up to 200 gr. on high fire.
12. Dip in 1/2 of the potatoes and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Adjust the temperature so that the thermometer shows 180 gr.
13. Transfer potatoes to paper towels and season with salt immediately.
14. To keep the first portion of potatoes warm, store them on a baking sheet in preheated to 100 gr. oven.

What does the air fryer have to do with it, you ask?

And despite the fact that I conducted two experiments with it.

Once I cooked potatoes in the traditional double way, dividing them into two portions.
One portion was fried in oil, the other in an air fryer.

Sliced potatoes were soaked in water for half an hour, dried.

A portion of potatoes (for the air fryer) was mixed with a teaspoon of oil. According to the manufacturer, 1 tablespoon of oil is needed for 1 kg of potatoes.

I heated the oil and deep fryer to 140 degrees.

Fry one serving of potatoes for 3 minutes in oil.

Another in the air fryer, increasing the time to 10 minutes. The manufacturer recommends 15-20 minutes for french fries. My guess is that hot air doesn't conduct heat as fast as oil.

Transferred to paper towel.

I heated the oil and deep fryer to 190 degrees, fried the potatoes in oil for 1 minute, in the air fryer for 5 minutes.

Conclusions: the oil-fried potatoes came out much more like french fries, and to be completely honest, they tasted better.
The potatoes cooked this way in the air fryer were also delicious, but being crispy at the tips, they remained completely soft in the middle.

Only again, in the air fryer, I kept the potatoes a little longer, but taking into account the fact that they were already boiled.

She froze potatoes in two bags, signing them.

Roasted again three days later.

The results were unexpected for me.

French fries fried in oil were similar to McDonald's, but not quite the same. And very oily. Just the way it feels in your mouth. The center was almost empty.
But the potatoes from the air fryer turned out to be very tasty. Evenly crispy, non-greasy, with a soft center.
But it's delicious in a different way. It’s different from McDonald’s, but given the calorie content, I’ll rightly prefer potatoes from an air fryer, and now I’ll try to cook fries for my child only myself.

About the variety of potatoes. Certainly he is important. In our reality, I was only able to buy French fries in Azbuka Vkusa, intended for frying.

In addition, it would be more correct to fry the second portion of potatoes in a deep fryer, which will keep the exact temperature of the oil. I also had dances with tambourines with a thermometer.

What does my experiment say? Yes, nothing. In order to come to unambiguous conclusions, you need to cook hundreds of servings different varieties potatoes different ways by varying the time of frying, boiling, etc.

According to the proposed second method, the potato, however, tastes very close to the potato from McDonald's.
You can’t cook such potatoes in an air fryer, no matter how hard you try.
But you get delicious fried potatoes in it. And what is especially important, there will be much less calories and fat in it.

I look forward to your comments, ideas, suggestions. Especially about why the middle of the potato fried in oil turned out to be empty. Overexposed?

Air fryer, deep fryer
and just an expensive fryer

This review will focus on deep fryers. Boiling oil cooking appliances were especially popular with us about 15 years ago. Now we have the opportunity to talk not about a fashionable device, but about a utilitarian thing for amateurs. Now few people like french fries, they are harmful and high-calorie. This argument is valid until someone places a large bowl of crispy slices sprinkled with salt on the table. Five minutes later, the container is empty, and no one knows how it happened.

French fries - convincing argument for children, why now it is still worth breaking away from the tablet and having dinner. The presence of younger family members is the most common reason for buying an air fryer, judging by the comments of users. In the models we reviewed, you can cook different dishes: meat, fish, vegetables and fruits. The device offers only a method of heat treatment, the rest is the will and imagination of the owner. But even with the types of processing, everything is not so simple: not all deep fryers are pots with a heating element under the bottom and the ability to adjust the temperature. Most basically have this idea, but there are also air fryers. In these devices, products are cooked with a minimum amount of oil, heat treatment takes place with the help of hot air circulating inside the container.

For comparative testing we chose an air fryer, a classic fryer, and an appliance called a "fondue fryer". Further in the review, we talk in detail about each of the three models.

Instruction

The management communicates with the user very courteously, gives him friendly advice and has tables with useful information. For example, such.

Actually, this table is the main thing that is required from the instruction of the tested model. Attached to the device and a recipe book, it details the benefits of potatoes, provided it is correct processing and offers ways to diversify the everyday life of the owner of an air fryer. Recipes include subsections with vegetables, meat, sauces and desserts. color book, beautiful pictures and well written text. A nice optional bonus to the device.

Control

The device has two mechanical buttons that control its operation: on and timer. The timer is set to a maximum of 99 minutes, scrolled by paging. After setting the time on the scoreboard will start counting back. At the end of the work, the timer will emit a soft signal. The device does not stop the work, it will need to be done independently. The button for turning on the device starts the heating and the operation of the stirrer. The fryer can only be switched on with the lid closed. If you open the lid during cooking, the device will stop working. When the lid is closed, the appliance turns on again.

The two buttons on the left and right under the lid open the lid when pressed simultaneously. The lid opens smoothly, without sudden movements, this allows you to protect yourself from burns from hot air circulating inside the deep fryer. The sliding lever on the basket handle is needed in order to unfold the handle and remove the inner container from the appliance. The stirrer arm is removed together with the paddle with a simple movement. The transparent part of the cover of the device has a button-lever at the bottom, which also allows you to remove this structural detail. Everything disassembles and assembles easily and intuitively. All parts of the appliance that get dirty during cooking can thus be removed and placed in the dishwasher.

Tefal FZ7000 ActiFry cooks food with hot air treatment, just like an air fryer. The flow is fed through the incandescent grates, one of them is located in front of the basket, the air from it circulates around the tank. The other is located on top of the basket and creates an "air cap". Constant slow stirring allows the products to be processed evenly. The device first "dries" the products, and then fries them. This allows you to cook almost without oil and get a crispy crust. Of course, the cooking time increases greatly: in an ordinary deep fryer in hot oil, frozen potatoes will be fried in 10 minutes, and meat in 4-7.

cooking experience

Potato

For a classic experience of use, we took the most common product: frozen french fries. Slices with a side of about 8 mm, the instruction suggests cooking for 20 minutes. In the table of correspondence of the amount of oil to the prepared dish, it is indicated that no oil is required at all for frozen french fries. As the authors of the reference material explain, this product is pre-fried in oil before freezing.

The recipe in the accompanying book disagrees with the table about the right amount of oil: it suggests that we add one scoop (14 ml of vegetable oil). For the experiment, we will try both cooking methods.

Without oil, the potatoes are very crispy after 20 minutes. Part of the focus group calls the resulting dish "dry". Another part reports that it looks like very tasty real chips.

With butter, the potatoes turn out to be just as ruddy in appearance after 20 minutes, but slightly less crispy. The part of the focus group that found the previous dish too dry is happy with the present result. The second part of the focus group agrees that the taste is richer with butter, “like real french fries.”

Meatballs

We chose this dish from the above table. 12 meatballs are suggested to cook for 30 minutes. The diameter of the meat product is not indicated in the manual, we proceeded from the usual understanding of how this dish should look like. By placing the molded meatballs in the basket, we were convinced that 12 is really the same amount that fits well in the deep fryer and allows the stirrer to spin. That is, less is possible, and more is no longer possible. It is proposed to cook the dish with 1 scoop of vegetable oil. The stirrer blade deforms the balls quite strongly during cooking, and by the time the device is turned off, the shape of the meatballs becomes arbitrary. This does not affect the taste, only the aesthetic perception of the finished dish. As for the taste, it is somewhere in between in terms of juiciness and the degree of frying between cooking meatballs in the oven and in a pan.

Instrument care

All parts that require thorough cleaning are removed from the device: basket, lever and stirrer blade, cover. All removable parts, as stated in the instructions, can be washed in the dishwasher. The housing should be cleaned with a damp cloth dampened with water or soapy water, and then wiped dry. As a result, the device in terms of cleaning attracts a minimum of household attention: cooked - dismantled - put in the dishwasher - taken out, installed. We perform the same procedure with most kitchen appliances. household appliances.

Conclusion

The model is not cheap, this is the first stopping factor. Large - the second factor, important, since the appliance in the kitchen is not a priority, which means that convenient places are most likely already occupied, and the question of storage arises. The rest depends on why you need an air fryer, and whether you need one at all. Tefal FZ 7000 ActiFry is a well-made device, easy to use and maintain, with a clear manual. This is not a deep fryer in the classical sense, cooking is not due to quick processing in boiling oil, but due to long hot air blowing. In fact, you get an aerogrill with a stirrer, convenient for cooking finely chopped products.

When cooking in this device, you need to take into account in advance the time that the device will spend on work. Still, cooking 12 meatballs for half an hour is a long time, in a frying pan it turns out twice as fast. Yes and appearance meat balls crushed with a stirrer can cause grief among adherents of a beautiful presentation or instagram.

But this method of cooking can really be called dietary: 14 milliliters of oil per basket is less than what is usually added to a frying pan. If you love french fries or anything fried and crunchy, but want to stay on the path to a healthier diet, this appliance can help you. It is also worth mentioning the option of having children who love everything harmful, and you want to feed them something that resembles real food.

pros

  • requires a minimum amount of oil (14 ml per kg of product)
  • convenient to use
  • easy to care for

Minuses

  • large dimensions
  • the timer does not stop the device

AEG FFR 5551 - deep fryer and fondue cooker

This model is already a real deep fryer in all its simplicity - a box inside which a bowl with a non-stick coating is placed. Oil is poured into the container, the device heats it up to the desired temperature, after which the basket with the product is lowered inside.

The model is laconic in German: a rectangular metal case, a wire basket, a lid with a small viewing window. The control system consists of a rotary knob, around which the designation of the temperature and light indicators of heating and operation are placed.

AEG FFR 5551 is small in size, for which it is often approved in online reviews. As for fondue, here the manufacturer means cooking meat, chopped on forks, in boiling oil or fat. Special plugs and a holder ring for fixing them are included.

Instruction

The manual on gray paper is published in several languages, Russian at the very end. The instruction is so brief that the meaning of referring to it is negligible. While reading the manual, the test group had the feeling that the brochure communicates with readers reluctantly and through gritted teeth. But in fact, this is an unnecessary metaphor for a short, uninformative instruction for a device with one function.

Control

The device has one rotary knob on the front panel, around which a temperature scale from 80 to 190 °C is applied. When the oil reaches the correct temperature, the heating indicator goes out. This means that food can be loaded into the appliance. Cooking should be done with the lid closed. In order to check the condition of the product, there is a viewing window. Unfortunately, it is very quickly covered with condensate, and it is difficult to see anything in it. Oil at room temperature heats up for 5-7 minutes, depending on the selected mode, and cools down for a long time - the body of the device works like a thermos. This should be kept in mind if you decide to reduce the heating temperature during cooking.

Fondue forks are comfortable, well fixed in the ring, it is convenient to put them in the bowl and take them out.

The cover of the device is a separate part of it and is not attached to the panel in any way. This raises concerns about storing the instrument with oil inside. Little curious children, foreign objects and food getting into the oil - all this begins to disturb the user with a good imagination.

cooking experience

Potato

Before the first cycle of operation, the device must be warmed up to room temperature. After installing the deep fryer, we traditionally wiped the inside of the bowl; the manual does not offer us any other preliminary care actions. There are minimum and maximum marks on the bowl, the oil level should be between them. The minimum is 1 liter, and pouring oil up to right level, we get 1.2 liters indicated in the characteristics of the device.

Now you need to fill the basket with the product (in our case, it is still the same frozen chopped french fries) and turn on the heat. On the front surface of the device, the types of food and the corresponding temperature regime and cooking time are indicated by pictures. At this point, the testing team experienced their first difficulty: judging by the pictures, french fries need to be cooked at 170°C for 7-10 minutes, and frozen foods at 190°C for 7-17 minutes. The management did not resolve our doubts in any way, and we set the device to heat the oil to 190 °C.

The model completed this job in 6 minutes. We lowered the basket of potatoes into the bowl and closed the lid. Soon, from the seething inside the fryer and the splashes of oil boiling up when the lid was lifted, we concluded that the temperature should be lowered.

And they were wrong, but only the manual of the next model explained this to us. The reason for this behavior of the oil was in the ice crystals on the surface of the potato bars.

In the future, when cooking, we did not follow the pictures, but our own feelings.

The potatoes took 10 minutes to cook. After this time, it acquired a golden crust, some bars began to quickly darken, overcooking. This fryer does not have a way to stir the product, so it may cook unevenly.

The wire basket has a removable handle with a stopper that allows you to set the container over the inner bowl and drain excess oil. After cooking, the product can be salted and seasoned with spices and sauces. The dish tasted like classic french fries from fast food restaurants, which is not surprising.

meat fondue

For the first experience, we bought beef tenderloin and pork entrecote. We heated the oil to 180 °C, lowered the forks with chopped pieces of meat (cubes with a side of about 3 cm), fixing them in the recesses of a special ring. The name of the part is conditional, since the device is rectangular and the device for fixing the forks repeats its shape. At the end of the four minutes indicated, we received airtight coal cubes, inside of which a little cooked meat was hidden. We prepared the next batch for 2 minutes, and the last one - one and a half. None of the options were considered successful by us, but in the last one (1.5 minutes at 180 ° C) there was much more meat than coals. Pork prepared this way is easier to chew than beef, as is the case with many other comparisons of these meats.

For the second experiment, we took chicken fillet and kept it for 1.5 minutes. We considered the resulting dish more worthy than the result of the experiment with red meat. This, unlike french fries, is food for everyone. Our focus group showed a polite indifference towards meat fondue, slightly masked by gastronomic curiosity.

Instrument care

This is the sore point of the model. The inner bowl for oil is non-removable. There is no convenient way to wash it. On the upper horizontal surface of the device there is a groove for draining the oil - in this way it is supposed to be filtered and disposed of. When draining, there is a possibility of oil getting between the bowl and the body and on the walls of the device. If the latter can be handled with mechanical cleaning(although this is an unpleasant task), then nothing can be done about the first. Oil that gets on the heating element will smoke until it burns out completely.

The inner bowl is suggested to be wiped with a damp cloth using mild detergents. We first removed the remaining oil with paper towels, then wiped the bowl wet wipes. After that, the inner container began to resemble a clean one, and we finally wiped it with a damp cloth.

It is also not easy to clean the body of the device from frozen oil drips. We used a cloth soaked in alcohol and wet wipes. After that, you need to dry the case with a soft dry cloth to remove the stains.

Summing up this part of testing the device: taking care of the AEG FFR 5551 turned out to be a chore that resembles a household feat.

Conclusion

It's just a fryer. It's inexpensive, compact, and well made. She has a metal body. It adequately fulfills its main function and can cook meat fondue. In fact, this is a pan with a lower heating element and the ability to adjust temperature conditions in a given range.

Care of this product raises big questions. The impossibility of removing the inner bowl makes this exercise lengthy, unpleasant and tiring. It is quite difficult to come to terms with this fact in the era of smart technology.

DeLonghi RotoFry F28533

This model is just a fryer, without additional features and possibilities of use. Despite the simple appearance solution (white plastic, rounded corners), the device looks stylish, like most products from this manufacturer. The dimensions of the device are as noticeable as those of the Tefal ActiFry, so all the same questions arise about the placement of the device in everyday life.

DeLonghi RotoFry F28533 is one of the expensive fryers, so there are practically no reviews in the Russian segment of the Internet about it. For our considerable money, we get a well-thought-out design, high-quality assembly, a pleasant appearance and the DeLonghi brand.

Inside, the deep fryer looks unusual: an inclined bowl in which a basket rotates during cooking. This manufacturer's patented design reportedly cuts oil consumption by up to half and allows food to cook evenly.

Instruction

The gray paper brochure includes a manual in several languages. The text is dense both in terms of the total amount of information and in terms of its usefulness to the user. In addition to step-by-step navigation for controlling the device, the instructions contain good advice for proper frying and a table of the relationship between the type of product with processing parameters and the recommended amount for frying in grams.

The manual in Russian takes 4.5 pages. The text is not laid out in the most convenient way for perception - tightly, in two solid columns. The level of presentation and translation is very pleasant: all sections of the instructions are presented clearly, kindly and to the point.

Control

The device, connected to the network, is started by the rotary knob, with which you need to select the desired temperature regime. Around the handle there is a scale from 150 to 190 °C. The rotary knob is located on the left side of the front panel, the heating indicator lamp and the lid opening button are also placed there. On the right side of the panel there is a timer, a mechanical button that scrolls through the time on the display in increments of a minute. At the end of the set interval, an audible signal sounds. The timer does not disable the operation of the device and is not part of its software. This is a separate simple device on its own batteries, built into the body of the deep fryer.

All buttons, knobs and levers move easily, operate smoothly and respond quickly. In addition to the described instrument controls, there is also a lever button that folds the basket handle. The lid is removed by a simultaneous movement back and up - you need to get used to this method of interaction. The Delonghi RotoFry F 28533 has thoughtful storage of the cord: it folds like an accordion and is fixed under the bottom panel of the device.

This model heats room temperature oil up to 190 °C in 6.5 minutes. The average cooking time of the product is 10 minutes. The basket is fixed in two positions: above the oil level and at the bottom of the bowl. In the lower position, the basket will rotate when the work cycle is started. The bowl is tilted so that only part of the product is covered with hot oil at any given time.

The manufacturer reports on its website that this design saves up to 50% of oil. We can neither confirm nor deny this information, we have a specifically short experience in using the device. Rotating the basket, adds Delonghi's official page, ensures food is cooked evenly. This part of the statement was confirmed by our experiments. According to the subjective opinion of the testing team, it is the uniformity of the cooked dish, obtained due to the rotation of the basket, that is the main "chip" of the DeLonghi RotoFry F28533.

cooking experience

Before the first use, we, according to the instructions, washed the basket, bowl and lid warm water with detergent. There is a foam rubber odor filter in the lid, which must first be removed.

Potato

First of all, we traditionally prepared french fries from a frozen semi-finished product. The instruction prescribes cooking in 1.2 liters of oil or using 1 kg of fat. We took refined corn oil for testing.

While the fryer is heating up, measure out and arrange 180 g of potatoes in a basket. The manual says that it is best to distribute the product evenly further from the center of the basket - there is a hole with which the basket clings to the twisting element in the center of the bowl. The instructions also warn us not to overload the basket, especially if it contains frozen food, otherwise the temperature of the oil will drop sharply.

Cooking takes place with the lid closed. While the oil is heating, the basket should be placed inside the fryer in the up position (not touching the oil). After the indicator goes out, you need to very slowly lower the basket with the contents into the oil and lock the handle in the down position. The cooking process is supposed to be monitored through the viewing window in the lid. In fact, as in the case of the AEG FFR 5551, the cover from the inside is quickly and abundantly covered with condensate, which greatly complicates observation.

We took the temperature regime and cooking time from the table in the instructions. At 190°C, french fries were cooked by rotating in a basket inside boiling oil for 8 minutes. We started the timer, after a beep, opened the lid, made sure that the dish was ready, fixed the basket in the upper position and let the oil drain. Then they laid out the finished potatoes on a dish and salted them. We can confirm own experience- the slow rotation of the basket really gives the chopped product an even roasting: all the pieces looked almost the same. According to the focus group, it was " perfect taste better than fast food."

Shrimps

For the experiment, we took frozen shrimp, especially since there are no others to be found anyway. The manual has a separate table for frozen foods (we used it in the previous experience), where, in addition to time and temperature, the optimal amount of product is indicated. After consulting the instructions, we placed 300 g of shrimp in a basket and heated the oil to 190 °C. The cooking time for this product is indicated in the range of 4-6 minutes.

After 4 minutes, the shrimp were stiff. After 6 - they were already clearly fried, but when chewing, they still slightly resembled rubber balls. We divided the portion and put half the shrimp on for another minute. At the end of this time, the food in the basket acquired a menacing brown crust, but it did not become tastier from this. It is quite acceptable to assume that the point is not in the operation of the device, but in the original state of the product. To buy from us in stores marine reptiles, which were correctly frozen, stored, transported and never thawed - the chances are scanty. We're just unlucky.

Instrument care

Maintenance activities consist of cleaning parts of the deep fryer and cleaning the oil from food residues. The first part looks quite simple: the bowl, basket and part of the lid are removed, these parts can be processed in the dishwasher. The housing is suggested to be wiped with a damp cloth. We clean the outside of the appliance with wet wipes, then wipe it with a dry, clean microfiber cloth.

In the same oil (bringing its amount to the desired level, but not changing it completely), you can cook 8-10 times. The quantity is conditional and depends on the frequency of use of the device, type of products, storage conditions. The manual advises filtering the oil after each fryer cycle. To do this, as the manual says, you need to purchase special filters.

The process looks like this: wait for the oil to cool, remove the bowl, carefully drain the oil into a clean container, clean and install the bowl. Then fix the basket upside down in the upper position and place the oil filter on it. Carefully and slowly pour the oil through the filter into the bowl, store with the lid tightly closed. Oil for frying fish products, the instruction advises to store in a separate container and thoroughly clean the device after cooking. It is recommended to replace the odor filter every 10-15 preparations. Replacement filters must be purchased separately.

Conclusion

DeLonghi RotoFry F28533 is an expensive thing for its product niche. Buying for this money a device with one function that is not the most necessary in the household will be those who really want to have at home good fryer. Of course, if we are talking about a conscious decision, and not an impulse purchase. In addition, the device delivers a certain amount of household chores and expenses: oil filtration, oil filling, filter change. For this you get stylish model, whose developers thought about the convenience of using the device and invented an elegant way to fry food evenly.

The harmony of the manufacturer's presentation of the model is admirable: we have made an expensive, well-thought-out deep fryer that will save you cheap vegetable oil. Quite a meaningful statement if the device proves to be durable.

pros

  • spinning basket
  • high-quality design of the device, providing ease of use
  • Has a removable odor filter

Minuses

  • high price
  • the timer does not turn off the device
  • the viewing window becomes covered with condensation during cooking

General conclusions

The fryer has a narrow and specific purpose. This is a device that people think about acquiring only after acquiring standard set kitchen appliances, after the juicer, coffee grinder and electric shredder for vegetables. An air fryer will not simplify your household chores and will not make you a different person. It simply makes it possible to quickly cook food in a large amount of boiling oil - that is, it diversifies your menu. Buying an air fryer makes sense if you really love this method of cooking and are ready to master it at home. Or perhaps if you are the owner of a tiny cafe with fast food.

The previous passage concerns the last two models described - appliances for the classic way of cooking deep-fried foods.

AEG FFR 5551 compact, cheap and minimalist. It is easier for her than the other two test subjects to find a place in the kitchen. The price and build quality decide almost everything - but the impression of use greatly spoils the cleaning process. Impossibility to wash the bowl from the oil under running water or in the dishwasher causes a complex set of sensations. For example, the desire to look for a model similar in cost and characteristics with a removable bowl and a hermetically sealed lid.

DeLonghi RotoFry F28533- a model for connoisseurs. If deep-frying is an important part of your life and you want to spend it in comfort, then you should probably consider purchasing this appliance. Convenient controls, two secure ways to attach the basket, a patented rotation system, an odor filter - all these factors create a pleasant feeling that someone is taking care of us. Although, by and large, deep-frying requires only a vat of boiling oil and a handy sieve. But it will not rotate slowly, ensuring even cooking.

The air fryer is a completely different story. This is a device with the same name, but a completely different principle of processing products. Potatoes are not fried in boiling oil, but are blown with hot air for a long time, gradually turning golden and becoming crispy. This method of cooking is considered healthier. At a minimum, it is obviously less caloric.

Count Tefal FZ7000 ActiFry a deep fryer can, as well as call the resulting dish in it french fries. Especially if you want to serve this treat to household members who, it seems to you, are too fond of fast food. And speaking bluntly, this is an air grill pan with a stirrer. Not too roomy, without a choice of modes and airflow level. But in this device you can fry without oil, the air fryer will stir everything by itself, and the food will not burn. The money they ask for is not the smallest, but it’s not just that. Pretend that you eat, like all people, fried and fatty, but in fact secretly healthy lifestyle life is a game worth buying an air fryer.

So what's the bottom line? If you are looking to purchase a classic air fryer, the first things to check are:

  • does it have a removable oil bowl;
  • what is the coating on it;
  • How is the product supposed to be cared for?
  • how the oil is supposed to be stored between cycles;
  • how is the lid fixed and is it removable;
  • How is the basket fixed?
  • how much oil is needed to operate the device;
  • what is the capacity of the basket.

The last two points, however, differ little from manufacturer to manufacturer, as does the range of temperature conditions.

And if you want something "sort of", then we showed you a couple of options.

The air fryer comes with instructions and a colorful recipe book that will help, especially at first, figure out how to cook a particular dish. Control of the device will not be difficult even for a person who is poorly versed in technology. It is based on just two buttons, one of which is the power button.

The second is responsible for the timer, which is set to a maximum of 99 minutes and at the end of the countdown emits an audible signal. The power button, in turn, starts the operation of the device, namely heating and air circulation.

For safety reasons, with the lid open, the air fryer will not turn on, and if the lid is opened while the appliance is already on, it will stop immediately and continue only after it is closed again.

For ease of use, all parts of the Tefal FZ7000 ActiFry air fryer that are involved in cooking and can get dirty in the process can be easily removed and washed in the dishwasher. This ensures that the instrument is kept clean and hygienic.

This unit compares favorably with a conventional deep fryer by the possibility of cooking with a minimum amount of oil, however, there is a minus. The cooking time is significantly longer than with a classic appliance.

Speaking about cooking, for example, potatoes, we should mention the fact that it can be cooked both with vegetable oil (in the recipe book it is recommended to add one scoop, that is, 14 ml.), And without it.

In the first case, the finished product has the properties and taste of classic french fries, and in the second it is more like chips (much drier). Another dish, the description of which is in the instruction table, is meatballs.

It is also prepared with the addition of one scoop of oil for 12 pieces of meatballs. The taste of the finished dish turns out to be wonderful, however, given that continuous mixing occurs during cooking, the appearance of the finished meatballs becomes far from ideal.

One of the disadvantages of the device, of course, is that it is difficult to attribute it to a low or medium price category. The cost of the device is quite high. And, already mentioned, the increased cooking time of the product, in relation to a conventional deep fryer.

However, do not forget that by purchasing this appliance, you get a full-fledged convection oven for cooking chopped products, and not just a deep fryer. Concluding, we can say that despite some disadvantages, the device is quite convenient and will be useful for everyone who loves deep-fried dishes, but takes care of their health and keeps to a diet.

tell friends

A favorite dish of many gourmets is french fries with a crispy crust. You can also prepare it with the help of ordinary kitchen appliances. However best results can be achieved by using a device such as an air fryer.

An air fryer is an indispensable assistant for the kitchen, which allows you to cook not only potatoes, but also other products, even without the use of oil. Of course, this device comes in different models, each of which has its own power parameters, advantages and disadvantages. Air fryers have appeared on the market of household appliances relatively recently, but they have already gained consumer recognition due to the fact that they allow you to cook a variety of food products while maintaining their beneficial properties. The main advantage of air fryers is that they use a minimum amount of fat during the heat treatment of food. As a result, tasty foods are not sources of extra calories.

Progress does not stand still, and development household appliances happening at a rapid pace. That is why, in addition to the main options, air fryers can cope with the defrosting process and the preparation of semi-finished products. However, many consumers often wonder what is better to buy - an air fryer or an air grill.

What's better

Let's start with the fact that an air grill is a household appliance powered by electricity and used for cooking by circulating hot air. In fact, this is a bowl of heat-resistant glass on a stand, which is closed with a lid. Inside the bowl there is a fan and a heating element, and outside there is a control panel.

The principle of operation of an air fryer is similar to that of an air fryer. It also has a heating element and a fan that circulates hot air around the device. Convection ensures the same heating of the food being cooked from all sides. But the internal filling of the device is more similar to a conventional deep fryer. Inside there is a mesh and a Teflon pan that replaces the Teflon pan and grate.

In the air fryer, you can steam, fry or bake food. But it is worth noting that the erogril has some additional functions. With their help, you can sterilize jars, cook porridge. But at the same time, both devices perfectly cope with the preparation of dietary food, which does not require a lot of oil. In general, they are completely harmless to human health.

Key Features of the Air Fryer

When compared with an air fryer with an air grill, it can be concluded that the first unit differs in the following parameters:

  • consume less electricity;
  • cook food faster.

Naturally, this is a significant advantage when choosing a household appliance for the kitchen. After all, the air fryer allows you not only to get tasty and diet dish in the shortest possible time, but also saves energy.

What to consider in the selection process

So, the air fryer is a multifunctional household appliance, the main advantage of which is the low time spent on cooking and saving nutritional properties. culinary specialties. So what should you pay attention to when choosing this kitchen unit? Let's figure it out.

Functionality

The body of the device hides a fan and a heating element - a heating element. The power of the latter should be from eight hundred to two thousand watts. In general, most consumers prefer average power units of one thousand four hundred watts.

It is very important that the appliance is equipped with a thermostat. It provides a stable temperature of the heating element. If there is no thermostat, then a short circuit may occur in the device, followed by fire.

Also, the air fryer is equipped with a removable food bowl. When the heating element is heated, the temperature in the working area rises significantly. In the chamber there is a constant circulation of air, due to which the effect of heat is improved. It should be noted that hot air convection has a significant impact on:

  • frying process;
  • to the grill function;
  • baking;
  • breading of dishes;
  • cooking french fries.

As for the volume of the bowl, this parameter affects the consumption of oil, potatoes and the amount of the finished product.

If the family is small, then an air fryer with a volume of one and a half or two liters is enough for it. Such a bowl will allow you to cook a little more than a kilogram of potatoes or other product at a time.

What are they made of

As for the materials from which air fryers are made, it is mainly plastic or metal, that is, stainless steel. It is also very important that the body of the device, regardless of the material, is always equipped with additional thermal insulation. Due to this, the outer walls of the housing do not heat up.

If we talk about plastic cases, they are quite light in weight. However, the strength of the plastic unit leaves much to be desired. But the models, the case of which is made of stainless steel, are distinguished by both strength and style.

About the type of control

If we talk about the type of control of air fryers, then it can be either mechanical or electronic. FROM mechanical devices everything is very clear. They are easy to use, but they have fewer additional functions. They are also easier to repair if something breaks.

As for electronic units, they are always equipped with a screen that displays information about the selected mode and other processes. Using such an air fryer is much more convenient, but electronic models are more expensive.

About the timer and some additional options

All air fryers are usually equipped with a timer. It can be set for half an hour or an hour. When the set time has elapsed, the device will beep.

In some cases, the unit may have a special window. With it, the user can observe how the cooking process takes place. More expensive models may be equipped with air filters. They are designed to absorb odors, preventing them from spreading throughout the house or apartment.

About the temperature regime

When using the air fryer, you can set the desired temperature. In the selection process, attention should be paid to the maximum and minimum temperature threshold. The minimum temperature threshold, as a rule, ranges from sixty to one hundred and twenty degrees. If the device will be used for drying vegetables and fruits, then in this case, samples with a minimum temperature regime of sixty degrees should be preferred.

Speaking of maximum temperature regime, then it ranges from two hundred to two hundred and forty degrees. This temperature is suitable for creating delicious pastries.

About the package

Air fryers are always equipped with a removable bowl, the volume of which can reach up to three liters. Of course, more spacious units can be found on sale, but they are larger and consume more electricity.

It is very important that the air fryer is equipped with a non-stick layer. Then the dishes in the bowl will not burn. The air fryer kit also includes:

  1. Baking tray.
  2. Grill grate.
  3. French fries basket.
  4. Metal skewers for stringing vegetables, fish and meat.

More about the principle of operation

The air fryer works according to the following principle:

  1. First, the device must be connected to the mains.
  2. Then a mesh with products is placed in the unit, after which the heat treatment process begins at a given temperature regime.
  3. When the frying process is completed, the basket with products is removed from the tray, and the appliance itself is turned off.

As a result, the finished dish is obtained with a crispy crust. At the same time, all useful properties and nutritional components are completely preserved in it. We can make an unambiguous conclusion that the use of an air fryer greatly simplifies the process of preparing any dishes, and the result in the end is not only tasty, but also healthy.

Is it worth saving when choosing an air fryer?

Air fryers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. In most cases, consumers prefer desktop-type models. However, built-in units are also on sale.

If we talk about brands, then companies such as Tefal and Philips, Magnit and Saturn, Endever and Hilton, Royalty line and Adler, Prinsess and Irit are engaged in the production of household appliances of this type. It is from this range that the unit should be selected for price, color, capacity and power. It is worth noting that the cost of the unit may depend on the build quality and brand awareness. So, Tefal models are quite expensive. But trademark Saturn is engaged in the production of budget-type equipment. However, in any case, in the selection process, special attention should be paid to the functionality of the model.

Of course, budget models that are inexpensive attract more attention. But they have a number of shortcomings, because of which you should think about the appropriateness of such savings. So, cheap models are more difficult to disassemble if it becomes necessary to clean the unit. And you have to disassemble, as the oil gets inside the device. In addition, cheap air fryers are often equipped with low-quality single-layer filters that do not do their job well. As a result, smoke and an unpleasant smell appear in the room.

It is also worth adding that many air fryers budget option not equipped with a cold bottom system. Because of this, the process of frying the famous french fries is uneven, which affects the quality of the finished dish.

Rating of popular air fryers

Among consumers, air fryers of such brands as Kitfort, Magnit, Philips, Kromax, Irit, Tefal and Hilton are in demand. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Naturally, each brand has its own price category. Therefore, with all the features of each model in the selection process, you should familiarize yourself in more detail. Otherwise, you can buy a device that will not meet the capabilities and requirements of the user.
