Carpet is soft roll material with long or short pile, intended for floor covering. The advantages include the following qualities: warm, you can walk on it without shoes, it is easy to choose an option for any interior, you need a minimum Supplies. But there are also disadvantages: not suitable for a large area; not recommended for high traffic areas. It is best used in children's and bedrooms. Carpet laying technologies are quite diverse and are selected taking into account the characteristics of the room and its area, including the preparation of the base for carpet and several ways to perform work related to the specific use of the coating in the future. Carpet installation prices vary depending on the type of installation used.

Conditions for correct installation

Prepared carpet

Laying begins with a careful measurement of the room and calculation required material. To this end, you should draw a plan of the room with all architectural elements and provide for a margin of up to 100 mm on each side. The purchased carpet is brought in for acclimatization in the room where the work will be done, at least 24 hours in advance. It must lie flat. The price of carpet installation works depends on the preferred installation method.

The device of the main floor

If the work will be carried out according to concrete floor, it must be leveled, if necessary, sanded or filled with special leveling compounds. Be sure to prime, otherwise dust will subsequently come from under the coating. At the last stage - cover with a substrate if necessary; preparation of a wooden base is possible in two ways. First, lay the subfloor chipboard sheets, putty cracks and treat with a primer. Secondly, remove all parts that protrude above the level of the base. Carry out sanding, priming, if necessary, fill with a mixture to level the surface and cover with a substrate.

Laying methods

The choice of carpet installation method depends on:

  • the type of material itself and the quality of its base;
  • the level of patency of the premises;
  • functions performed by the premises;
  • subfloor quality.

Loose laying with fixation around the perimeter

Laying carpet with fixation around the perimeter is the simplest method in which the entire coating is freely placed on the surface, aligned with a roller in the direction from the center along the base. V-shaped cuts are made near the corners and fixed with a plinth. AT doorway fixed with a metal strap.

    Advantages:

    • minimum time and money;
    • no need to purchase special equipment.

    Disadvantages:

    • furniture on such a coating cannot be rolled or moved;
    • requires only dry cleaning.

Fixation with double-sided tape

Laying carpet on adhesive tape is carried out in several stages. First, the double-sided tape must be glued around the perimeter of the base, and then placed along the entire floor in the form of a grid with a square side of 500 mm. In this case, the top film is not removed. Next, spread the material and, gradually removing protective layer from the tape, glue the carpet over the entire surface. Finish the job by installing the plinth. Laying carpet in this way is preferred by most customers. Adhesive tape under the flooring can be different types: 63 or 150 mm wide. Choosing the type of adhesive tape should be after you determine what kind of carpet you want to lay.

Advantages:

  • easy to implement;
  • savings due to the fact that there is no need for a substrate;
  • it is possible to easily change the coating if necessary.

Disadvantages:

  • it is necessary to carefully prepare the subfloor in order to exclude the release of dust, as a result of which the adhesive tape will not be fixed;
  • it is imperative to maintain a constant room temperature due to the performance characteristics of the adhesive tape;
  • there is a risk of unevenness due to deformation of the adhesive tape.

gluing

Carpet laying on glue is used in rooms where high traffic is expected. This method is time-consuming, however, absolutely reliable. To perform the work, the canvas is folded with the front side inward, glue is applied to the free floor, the carpet is laid on the prepared surface, pressing it to the base. Repeat the procedure with the second half. Finished with the installation of the plinth. In addition to simple gluing, laying carpet on glue with a backing is used. The difference between a simple technology is that the substrate is glued first, and the floor covering is on top of it.

Advantages:

  • great for large areas;
  • easy to use;
  • guarantees durability;
  • provides the opportunity to clean with a washing vacuum cleaner.

Disadvantages:

  • it is impossible to reuse the coating;
  • after dismantling, it will be necessary to carefully prepare the base surface for the next coating.

Stretching (laying without glue on the gripper rail)

Laying carpet on a gripper rail is a method based on the elasticity of the carpet. Special rails are attached around the entire perimeter of the room. The substrate is laid out, which is attached to the base with a stapler. The spread carpet is stretched in all directions on the slats. To do this, use a special tool called a stretcher. Finish the work by installing the plinth.

The wooden floor is still in demand. It is environmentally friendly, durable, perfectly retains heat.

But before you put the carpet on the wooden floor, you need to level it, especially in those cases when laying the carpet requires different parts of it.

You can level a wooden floor by laying OSB or chipboard on its surface. The thicker the coating, the less possible risk deflection of boards.

Stages of laying carpet on a wooden floor

Laying carpet on a wooden floor does not require much knowledge and practical skills in this area, you just need to follow certain conditions, have the necessary attributes, and also act in stages.

Stages of laying a coating on a wooden floor:

  • level the floor
  • choose a styling method;
  • make installation;
  • install skirting boards.

Before starting work on laying carpet flooring on a wooden floor, it is necessary to withstand the carpet in the same room where it is planned to be laid.

You have to keep it for a day. This condition is especially important in winter period, it helps the carpet to get used to the environment where it will lie.

Ways to lay carpet on a wooden floor

There are several ways to lay the product on a wooden floor. The choice of installation method depends on the quality of the floor covering, on the material of the floor covering, on the available tools and materials at hand. The choice may also depend on design preferences.

Installation methods:

  • adhesive;
  • fixation around the perimeter;
  • fixation on adhesive tape;
  • stretching.

Adhesive method of laying carpet on a wooden floor

- a method that involves gluing the floor covering completely to the entire surface of the floor.

The adhesive is applied with a roller, brush or serrated dispenser. The depth of the notches and their profile is selected in accordance with the type of carpet.

Method advantage:

  • can be used on large areas;
  • has the reliability of laying;
  • slows down the spread of flames;
  • reduces the effect of moisture;
  • does not require a substrate;
  • suitable for carpet, consisting of several pieces;
  • eliminates the formation of bubbles and wrinkles.

The disadvantages of this method:

  • there is no possibility of secondary laying of a carpet product;
  • pre-leveling of the wooden floor is required;
  • required new training floor to laying carpet when replacing it.

Fixing the carpet to the wooden base around the perimeter

Perimeter fixing is the easiest way to lay carpet on a wooden floor.

Also, this method is the cheapest. The carpet is unfolded on the floor with an allowance for the walls - 15 cm. With the help of a special roller, the floor covering is rolled.

You need to start rolling from the center in all directions. After rolling, the excess product is cut off. The last step is fixing the flooring. metal rail reinforces the passage.

Advantages of the method:

  • easy to dismantle the carpet and lay a new one;
  • easy to do styling yourself;
  • there are no costs for adhesive tape, grippers and a substrate;
  • there is no need to prepare the floor for laying the product.

The disadvantages of the method:

  • bubbles and wrinkles may form on the carpet;
  • it is not recommended to use furniture on wheels on the carpet;
  • it is impossible to move furniture over the coating;
  • do not use a washing vacuum cleaner for flooring;
  • service life is reduced.

Fixing carpet to wood with double sided tape

Fixing with double-sided tape is a very popular way of laying carpet on a wooden floor.

There are several types of double sided tape different width. Depending on the type of flooring, the width of the tape is selected. First, the adhesive tape is glued to the floor.

Glue must be in the form of a grid. The mesh size is 50 x 50 cm. The carpet is laid out on the floor, while it should go on the walls by 5 cm. The protective film is removed from the adhesive tape and the product is glued.

At the end of gluing, all excess carpet is cut off along its perimeter. When installing skirting boards, it is necessary to leave a gap of 5 cm from the wall.

Advantages of the method:

  • it is possible to change the floor covering;
  • no need to use a substrate;
  • does not require the involvement of specialists;

The disadvantages of the method:

  • it is necessary to level the floor, its careful preparation;
  • there is a risk of tape deformation;
  • bubbles and wrinkles may form on the coating.

Scotch consumption - one coil per 8 square meters. The estimated length of the coil is 10 meters. This method is especially suitable for those who frequently change design decoration premises.

Stretching carpet on wood floor

Stretching is a method that does not involve gluing carpet.

It is based on the elasticity of the floor covering. Grips are attached around the perimeter of the room.

On grippers, nails should be driven in at an angle of 45 degrees. The floor covering is stretched and fixed on the rails. Stretching is done using special tools.

This method requires the presence of a substrate. This method is the highest quality, but it requires special tools and skills in this area, so it is better to invite a specialist to perform these works.

Whatever method of laying carpet on a wooden floor is chosen, the main rules are floor leveling and its thorough preparation for laying.

- one of the most popular floor coverings. This is related to the presence a large number advantages of this material. The main ones are: excellent indicators of heat and sound insulation.

Due large selection species, diversity colors and drawings, it will fit into any design project of the room. In addition, laying carpet is easy and fast flooring. Subject to some of the nuances, which will be discussed below, this work can be easily done independently.

Mounting methods

In order to lay carpet on the floor, you can use one of the following methods:

  1. free styling;
  2. with fixation around the perimeter;
  3. fixation with adhesive tape;
  4. on glue;
  5. stretch styling with tension.

Below we will consider each of the options in more detail.

Loose styling

In this case, the carpet is laid without any attachment, like a regular carpet or rug. A suitable segment is laid on the floor, ∨-shaped cuts are made at 90 ° in the corners, after which they are cut around the perimeter. This option is not suitable for all rooms, but only for those in which furniture will not move.

Fixation around the perimeter

A fairly simple and economical way, just like the previous option, is suitable for rooms with non-movable furniture and a flat floor. Since, even a chair with special rollers for carpets, over time, it can move the coating. Installation steps:

  • Remove skirting board
  • Roll out the coating, leaving a 10 cm overlap on the wall at the edges.
  • With a hard roller, roll the carpet from the center to the edges - we get rid of waves and swelling.
  • Cut off all excess, leaving a 3-4 cm overlap.
  • , thresholds, etc.

On double sided tape

This method is best used for rooms in which the whole piece can be laid. For fastening, use tape with a width of 63 (will last 2-3 years) or 180 (will last 5-7 years) mm. 10 meters of adhesive tape is enough for about 8 m² of coverage.

Stages of work:

  1. Surface preparation: removing debris, dust, dirt, etc.
  2. Sticking adhesive tape around the perimeter and in the form of a lattice in increments of 50 cm. We do not remove the top protective film yet.
  3. The canvas is laid, leveled and cut to size.
  4. Wrap half of the canvas on the other half inside out.
  5. Take off protective film with adhesive tape and carefully roll out the carpet.
  6. Repeat the procedure with the second part of the carpet.

With this method of fastening, a chair on rollers or a dining table can be moved along the coating.

Adhesive fixation

Quite laborious, but at the same time the most popular option. The reasons for its popularity are simple:

  • fixation reliability;
  • minimal risk of waves and bubbles;
  • when cleaning, you can use a washing vacuum cleaner;
  • great option for rooms large area and permeability.

Attention!!! Laying on the glue must be done carefully and responsibly - the used material cannot be re-layed.

Work progress:

  1. Surface preparation.
  2. Unfold the canvas and cut off any excess.
  3. Fold in half, as with duct tape, and apply glue to the floor.
  4. Apply the coating, pressing and smoothing from the center to the edges with a roller.
  5. Repeat the procedure with the other half
  6. Install skirting boards.

On a note! The floor is covered with glue in whole or in part in the form of a grid with cells of 50 × 50 cm.

This laying method is suitable for flooring on concrete or wooden floors. When laying on or it is better to use adhesive tape or fix with a plinth.

Stretch styling

Stretching - stretching the fabric on special rails - grippers. This method requires a special "gripper" carpet, and to it - grippers of the appropriate type. The gripper is a thin rail with spikes sticking out at an angle of 45 °.

Installation steps:

  • Grippers are attached around the perimeter of the room.
  • The underlayment is laid.
  • The carpet is unraveling.
  • Using a special tool - a stretcher, the coating is stretched onto the rails.
  • Special, wide, plinths are installed.

This method is suitable for rooms with a length and width of no more than 5 m.

If you want to lay the carpet yourself and not spoil it during installation and operation, then consider the following nuances:

  • accurately measure the surface and take the material at least with a small margin;
  • the coating should be at room temperature;
  • pay maximum attention to high-quality rolling, to remove waves and bubbles;
  • follow the direction of the pile when joining the carpet;
  • excess material is best cut from the center;
  • the joint will be invisible if it is perpendicular to the window.

Conclusion

Summing up, it can be said with certainty that the best way carpet laying is - fixing with glue. Since this method has a number of clear advantages:

  1. you can move furniture without fear that waves and bumps will appear;
  2. long service life of the coating;
  3. the original appearance is preserved for a long time;
  4. confidence in a secure fit.

But all other methods, of course, except for laying on grippers (which is practically not used due to complexity) are available for independent use.

Of all the existing quick-installed floor coverings, carpet enjoys special recognition. The combination in this material of a set of useful consumer properties with an affordable price, make it widely demanded for both household and office repairs.

Carpet flooring (tiled or rolled) resembles carpet, but at the same time simplifies the task of creating a harmonious integrity of the exterior. They have excellent tactile characteristics, help to reduce the spread of noise, and additionally insulate the floor. In addition, such soft coatings, taking into account the progress of modern cleaning equipment and cleaning products, are quite easy to maintain in a proper well-groomed form.

Why hire a professional carpet installer?

Despite the apparent ease of installation soft coverings, the work of laying them requires some skill and practical experience. For example, just a small mistake in trimming strips without taking into account their deformation properties can ruin a whole roll of material, and this already threatens to increase the cost of repairs as a whole. Or a poorly leveled and fixed carpet will then interfere with movement on it for years, riding up or gathering like an accordion.

Such troubles can be easily avoided if, even before the start of finishing, you turn to Metr Remont for help. Our profile masters, with many years of practice in working with floor coverings, know the whole range of methods, they know all the nuances in the technology of laying carpet. Installation of the material by the company's specialists is carried out in strict accordance with the recommendations of manufacturers for each subspecies of products; on the basis of official contractual obligations, budget application and with the provision of guarantees for the result.

In addition, the work estimate is calculated by our professional engineering and technical staff, based on base prices, which are a significant competitor to the prices of many construction companies in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Factors affecting the total cost of the order

In order to determine exactly how much the service for the installation of soft floor coverings will cost, the Metr Remont specialist must conduct an on-site inspection of the facility. The final result may be influenced by factors such as:

  • the total area of the premises in square meters, as well as the presence of too elongated longitudinal sections;
  • the degree of readiness of the base for installation (the need for leveling the floor surface, the presence of old flooring);
  • the amount of specific pruning, for example, for furniture or communications;
  • choice of laying technology (on a substrate, gripper rail, glue, adhesive tape, free method);
  • additional related operations.

Carpet installation methods

On double sided tape

A special double-sided adhesive tape. It is glued to the carpet both along the perimeter and in the form of a grid over its entire area. As a rule, this installation method is used when it comes to a small room, up to 25 m2.

On a substrate

The underlayment provides additional heat and sound insulation. Thanks to her, your carpet will last longer.

On gripper rail

This method is also called stretching. And all because the carpet is stretched and attached to special rails around the perimeter. In this case, it is not required additional training grounds. The use of an underlay is mandatory.

Loose styling

The carpet is simply laid on the surface and fixed with skirting boards around the perimeter of the room.

Carpeting is less demanding on the laying surface than, for example, laminate or linoleum. This does not mean that it can be laid anywhere, but laying carpet on a wooden floor is quite possible after spending some preparatory work. How to prepare a wooden surface for carpeting, the laying methods used and the feasibility of using an underlay to make the floor warmer - these topics will be discussed in the article.

Wood floor preparation

It is unlikely that anyone will think of laying carpet on top of the parquet, so let's consider more real option with a worn wooden plank floor. Many homeowners and apartment dwellers want to ennoble such a surface, resorting to half measures. That is, to do without dismantling the warm wooden flooring, and put something modern and attractive directly on it. This makes sense, as significant funds are saved, and there is no need for large-scale repair measures that take time and bring discomfort.

Before laying carpet, you should assess the condition of the wooden surface. Carpet is not a rigid material, so all the “diseases” of wooden flooring, if any (crevices, bumps, creaking floorboards), will not go anywhere and the substrate will not improve the situation. If there are such problems, you should address them. In the event that it is not possible to eliminate irregularities or the reliability of the flooring is in doubt, it is advisable to put on top OSB boards or plywood.

Such technological move at the same time it will strengthen the existing wooden floor, make the surface warmer and more suitable for laying carpet. board material necessarily rigidly attracted to the underlying wood with self-tapping screws.

If wooden surface in excellent condition, it is enough to dismantle the old skirting boards, and then do a thorough cleaning, which, in addition to washing the surface, should include:

  • degreasing oil stains;
  • removal of areas of unreliably holding paint;
  • sealing gaps (if any).

The gaps between the floorboards and the wall do not need to be sealed, as this is a deformation gap that compensates for possible fluctuations in the linear dimensions of the wood.

The feasibility of using the substrate

If the floor surface is flat, without sharp protrusions and recesses, while being warm, it is hardly advisable to lay a substrate under the carpet. This will give additional expenses and limit the number possible methods carpet laying. The main types of inexpensive polymer substrates do not adhere well, and the methods of laying carpeting suggest just such a method of fixation, except for stretching.

The carpet itself has good soundproofing and heat-insulating qualities, so the underlayment is not needed here for this reason (especially when laying on a warm wooden floor).

It makes sense to lay a substrate under the carpet only if there are irregularities that can injure the coating during operation. In such a situation, the substrate will brighten up surface defects and significantly extend the life of the carpet. However, it is desirable to use not a polymer, but cork backing. It is more expensive, but at the same time natural, much more durable, warmer and provides for its reliable gluing.

How to lay carpet

When laying carpet on a wooden floor, all key methods are applicable:

  • stretching (tension and fixation along the perimeter with the help of special strips);
  • fixing to the surface with glue;
  • fixation with double-sided tape.

Stretching from a technical point of view is the most complicated method. AT small spaces with moderate patency, it makes little sense to use it. This method is used exclusively by professionals when carpet is laid over large areas in rooms with an increased load on the floor surface.

In a house or apartment, you can lay carpet on the floor in the last two ways, the choice of one of them depends on the area of the room. Professionals recommend gluing carpet with a floor square in a separate room of more than 20 m2. If the area of the room is smaller, it will be enough to use wide double-sided tape for reliable fixation. Moreover, if the floor is less than 12 m2, then only the perimeter is glued. When the area of the room is within 12-20 m2, strips of adhesive tape are placed not only around the perimeter, but also in one of the directions of the floor in increments of 0.5-1 m. Let's look at the procedure for carrying out work in each of the options.

How to lay carpet on wood tape?

Double-sided tape is selected with a width of 5 cm or more. A tape of a smaller width may not fully perform the assigned functions. In addition to tape, you will need:

  • construction knife;
  • plastic spatula.

After the floor surface is prepared, the carpet roll is brought into the room where the laying will be carried out, and left there for a day. This step is necessary for the temperature adaptation of the flooring. This is especially important in winter, when there is a big difference between external and internal temperatures.

Important! Few people do this, however, it is correct to let the unfolded and trimmed canvas lie on the floor for 1-3 days (depending on the type of carpet). Due to this, the coating is completely straightened. Such an event will guarantee that in the future the canvas will not form wrinkles.

When the "acclimatization" has occurred, we proceed to the pattern of the carpet according to the contours of the room. Usually the content of the roll has the correct rectangular shape, but not much (up to 5 cm at correct measurements) exceeds the area of the room. The purpose of the pattern is to make the canvas match the floor around the entire perimeter.

First, we roll out the roll and spread the carpet so that the two mutually perpendicular edges of the canvas align along the corresponding walls. Along the remaining perimeter, the carpet is trimmed construction knife. When trimming, you need to make sure that the cut canvas does not reach the wall by 1-0.5 cm. This gap is needed to smooth the carpet.

Having turned away the edges of the canvas along the walls, we glue double-sided tape around the perimeter, after which we remove the protective film from the front surface of the tape. Now with a smoothing iron we smooth the coating from the center to the edges and glue it to the adhesive tape. On the wooden floor it is possible to additionally grab the edges of the carpet with studs, which will provide additional fixation of the canvas in a straightened position. You can see how this is done in practice in this video.

Adhesive laying

With a large floor area, a special dispersion adhesive is used to securely fix the coating on the surface. The easiest option is PVA or Bustilat. You can choose specialized compositions of domestic production and products of foreign brands, but the latter will cost more for approximately the same quality.

To apply and level the adhesive mass, you will need a special dispenser that resembles a notched trowel with fine teeth. The technology as a whole resembles the one described above, with the difference that a more reliable adhesive substrate is used instead of adhesive tape. The glue is applied in strips (no need to glue all the way), the number of which depends on the floor area. Carpet adhesive has an exposure period, that is, after it is applied to the surface, it is necessary to let it dry for 10-30 minutes, and only after that the carpet should be glued. How to lay carpet on glue, see the next video.
