Wallpaper double for walls. How to glue wallpaper correctly in order to enjoy the result for a long time. Features of pasting walls with wallpaper of different types

There are many ways to create a custom interior or zoning a room. Combining wallpaper is one of them, the least expensive in terms of resources and time. This technique is used by those who want to save money, level out the existing planning flaws: unprofitable ledges or niches, too low ceilings, narrow space. The main thing when repairing is to take into account all the features of the room.

The purpose of the combination should be the desire not just to dispel boredom. It is designed to focus attention on some point or zone. The aimless imposition of "patches" on the walls will make the interior clumsy, only emphasize the lack of taste of the owner.

When accenting one of the walls with wallpaper, you must choose the “correct” one. Usually this is the wall that attracts the eye when entering the room. It can also be located in the background of one of the functional areas or behind a furniture group: a dining room, a desk, upholstered furniture, which, thanks to a suitable background, will only benefit.

The principle of choosing a wall was absolutely unmistakable in Soviet times. The main attraction - the Uzbek carpet - always hung where it was needed, it was visible from any vantage point.

The boundaries of the accent wall are also determined in advance. And this is necessarily the whole wall, and not some part of it behind the sofa (what happens if the sofa suddenly has to be moved?). These are not a few walls, sometimes decorated with companions, but giving the impression that the room was pasted over with the remnants of a previous renovation.

The following simple rules must be observed:

  1. Accent wallpaper is glued to the view wall. The desired minimum distance to it is 3-4 m. The "Khrushchev" kitchen, for example, is not suitable for such a design.
  2. Combining two types of wallpaper with an active pattern is contraindicated, even if they are companions.
  3. Photo wallpapers or any other with a dynamic print are best combined with plain ones.
  4. In order not to puzzle over the design of the joints, accent wallpapers take up space from one corner to another or to a niche or ledge.
  5. The basis for creating any combination should be a certain idea, it is necessary to rive the eyes of those present on something specific.

Errors when combining

All the mistakes of designers can be reduced to the following main ones:

  1. Lack of purpose when combined, action on a whim.
  2. The choice of the "wrong" wall.
  3. Placement of wallpaper in pieces, with borders not in the corners. An exception is inserts with trim joints with moldings or when the wall is divided into two parts horizontally.
  4. The layout of the duet without taking into account the features of the room.

In order not to spoil the picture of a fresh repair, it is impossible

  • place large furniture near the wall with large patterns, the optimal background in this case is plain;
  • decorate a small room with dark colors, light shades are more harmonious, preferably no more than three;
  • decorate a large wall in a narrow room with patterns, they will further narrow the space;
  • stick wallpaper in horizontal stripes with low ceilings, the ceiling will press even harder;
  • vertical stripes will make a narrow room with high ceilings even more awkward.

How to combine wallpaper by color?

The fact that colors affect not only mood, but also health, scientists have proven. For a comfortable life, design colors are chosen for a reason. They are combined according to certain rules. Not all shades look harmoniously next to each other. Sometimes even unexpected combinations fascinate, in other cases you want to look away as soon as possible. Combinations for the interior are selected according to the same principle by which a bouquet or toilet items are collected.

Taking into account furniture, decor, there are usually three to four to seven colors in the room. There are not many of them, they only serve for variety, make accents. The main two are the colors of the wallpaper, floor, furniture elements. When choosing a color, first of all pay attention to the size of the room.

The color scheme of the walls determines the overall decor of the entire room. Some color elements from the wallpaper pair are necessarily duplicated in the interior: they are repeated in furniture upholstery, echo with doors or floor and ceiling coverings.

Shades of the same color

The combination of wallpapers of the same color in one room is considered classic. Walls can be patterned, regular, chaotic, barely expressed. For a small room, two types of wallpaper with the same pattern, slightly different in shade - the most acceptable combination.

Monochromatic combinations can differ only in saturation. More juicy shades highlight the priority zone.

Any room will look organic if the decoration of the same color is combined there, but with a different texture. Textured elements look much more spectacular if they are made in the same color. Shiny surfaces look unusual, combined with matte ones. In addition, small rooms with shiny walls will visually appear more spacious.

Contrasting colors

The correct combination in the interior of several bright canvases that you like is a delicate matter. Those who have no experience in this matter are on a slippery slope. It is also worth considering the price of various coatings. The look of expensive silk-screen printing can be quickly spoiled by placing budget paper nearby.

The contrast method is most often used to decorate living rooms or bedrooms. One of the colors should be active, and the second neutral.

Modern design ideas are based on style, the rejection of the ordinary. Special techniques consist in combining warm and cold colors, using catchy colors. Possible options are:

  • simple, when harmonious, unidirectional color schemes are combined;
  • moderate, when the tones of the wallpaper do not match with each other, but have something in common with space;
  • difficult if the interior is decorated with more than three colors of different saturation.

Neighboring shades of the color wheel

In order to maintain the integrity of the interior, not to miss the choice of finish colors, they use a special cheat sheet called the color wheel. With it, you can pick up similar colors by simply taking 2-3 or 5 located nearby.

Advanced designers usually use not 2, but 3-4 shades, which are diluted with universal black, white or gray. Since they are absent in nature, they are not shown in the diagram. In the design of the premises, they act not only as additional, but also as the main ones.

Color combination (table)

It is interesting to work independently on the choice of suitable colors. But those who have no experience tend to err. There are tables that greatly simplify the process. The main thing is to know how to use them.

This or a similar scheme is used, remembering that the first color must be used as the main one. The two following it can act as additional ones, those that follow are accents.

There are tables where contrasting combinations are presented or compiled according to a complementary principle. From the proposed options, you just need to choose the combination that you like the most.

How to make a transition when combining

To decorate or not to decorate joints when gluing depends on the thickness of the finish, the chosen style. There are several methods for decorating the transition: pasting the borders with borders, moldings, wooden slats, thin planks, stucco molding are applicable, the ceiling plinth is played up.

No transition

The classic joint is usually not decorated with anything. In order for the edges of assorted wallpapers to match perfectly, they are not initially smeared with glue, overlapping each other. Then, at the junction, they are carried out with a sharp knife (the line can be even or wavy). Waste is discarded, and the edges of the canvases are smeared with glue, attached to the wall.

wallpaper border

Paper framing is not a problem. It can be matched to the wallpaper at the place of purchase from the catalog or cut out fragments from the wallpaper strip itself. The advantage of this finish is low cost, ease of sticking and removal. The disadvantage is susceptibility to ultraviolet radiation, mechanical damage.

You can choose vinyl and acrylic edging, they are approximately close in quality. Textile is more dense and durable due to the two-layer structure consisting of paper and fabric.

You should not rely on the quality of the self-adhesive edging, it tends to spontaneously fall off after a while. It is advisable to glue it, additionally smearing it with glue initially.

moldings

Decorative elements framed by moldings look quite original. Such inserts were mostly used in classical interiors. Previously, such ideas were embodied only by representatives of the upper class, since the fabrics used were very expensive. Now such panels are possible in the style of Provence, country. Modern Art Nouveau follows the same path, slightly modifying the frame. Its role is played by a border cut from a canvas of the same collection.

Silk-screen printing, embossed coatings, and other similar options are used as inserts. Moldings will also help, if it is necessary to combine wallpapers of different thicknesses, to arrange a transition to another type of finish, an architectural element.

Combination methods

Combination is always creativity, creativity. Some of his techniques are very bold, especially if the stylistic decision involves the use of bright contrasts, unconventional combinations. Therefore, you need to choose the decor carefully. When buying materials, you need to consider the following key factors:

  • degree of illumination;
  • room size;
  • conceived style;
  • shades and textures should not "swear" among themselves.

The choice of texture is usually given more easily than determining the correct color scheme. If all types of finishes in the apartment can be combined into one harmonious whole, a satisfactory result is obtained:

  • the room seems to add size;
  • irregular shapes, uneven walls are hidden;
  • the interior is filled with light;
  • separate zones appear;
  • the winning features of the layout and style are emphasized.

Combine horizontally

The method is most successful if you paste over the room with wallpaper of various types, for example, the upper part is paper, and the lower part is embossed vinyl or non-woven. The walls will receive additional protection, it will be easier and cheaper to carry out partial repairs.

Horizontal stripes can be distributed over the entire height, alternating in color, pattern. If you decide to stick only two types of wallpaper, then the parts should be in a ratio of 2: 1.

The separation height can be changed, focusing on the levels of furniture, window sill, taking into account the layout, the size of the room.

Joints oriented horizontally are much more difficult to mask, so the use of moldings, all kinds of borders, and baguettes is appropriate here. Traditionally, the border is made at a height of no more than a meter, but only if the height of the walls is small. With non-standard high ceilings, the joint is located at a height of 1.5-2 m. This distance is oriented relative to the floor, not the ceiling, otherwise the slightest unevenness will be striking.

Vertical Combination

The essence of the method is to vertically connect wallpapers of various tones and textures. The method allows you to visually raise the level of the ceiling. The room will seem the higher, the thinner the fragments of the picture will be. Combine stripes optionally of the same size. Strips of different widths alternate in a certain sequence.

If the combined fragments are not the same in texture, moldings or borders will be required to decorate the borders.

Combinations of coatings of the same color, but of different intensities, alternation of dynamic shades with calm ones, wallpaper with patterns and smoothly colored are popular. Flowers with stripes look good in retro style.

Monochromatic and monochromatic

Reception, ideal for highlighting several functional areas of space in close colors. Companions from the same manufacturer will be a win-win. Not too colorful shades, embossed patterns, silk-screen printing look noble.

For a harmonious design, when using plain wallpaper, choose canvases with a neutral and more active color, materials of different textures. A maneuver with a brighter wall will draw attention away from the bumps on the wall with a neutral color. In the bedroom, for example, deeper, darker shades are used in the sleeping area. The play of shadows helps to calm down and relax.

accent wall

In order for the accent on the wall not only to attract the eye, but also to improve the design, it is necessary to follow some rules:

  • ideally, the presence of only one such wall, rarely - two, never - three, this introduces dissonance;
  • only part of the wall or such architectural elements as arches, niches can become accent;
  • accent colors are not necessarily bright, soft combinations are acceptable;
  • You can “move” the accented wall using warm and cold shades.

It must be remembered: the reception dictates the mood of the entire interior, therefore it can either completely ruin it or balance it.

In a modern interior, an accent wall usually sets the focal point. It is decorated with bright plain canvases or wallpaper with large ornaments, digital printing. The color scheme of the remaining surfaces is as neutral as possible. This approach is applicable to any room. And due to the fact that expensive materials are used only on one of the walls, significant savings are achieved.

pattern or ornament and plain

Collections often represent a popular combination option - plain wallpaper with the same ones, where a pattern or ornament is applied to the base.

If the selection of companions is carried out independently, you must be extremely careful, try to dock future companions in good light. It is also important not to deviate from the rule:

  • large drawing, catchy color are good only in a spacious bright room;
  • in a pair where the first part is an ornament, the second should be textural.

pattern and pattern

Different patterns look quite harmonious in the same room. But they must have something unifying: motives, some elements, color.

The technique is often used in horizontal combinations, when the lower part of the wall, for example, is decorated with ornamental wallpaper, and the upper, lighter one, is decorated with small flowers. In the same way, you can arrange large monograms or a floral pattern with discreet geometric ripples, giving the impression of a solid background.

Two types of wallpaper are used for zoning, but only if they are not competitors. Colored companions share, for example, a children's room, allocate a zone at the desktop. At the same time, the junction should not be defiant, it is not beaten with moldings, it is even better if it is angular.

Patchwork technique

The combination is performed using flaps, for which canvases are selected that are in harmony with each other. They are cut into identical or different pieces, glued end-to-end or overlapped, placed like on a chessboard. The flaps can be two-color or have more shades, with various geometric shapes: square, rectangular. They are cut out in the shape of a circle to make appliqués on ready-made walls.

Such a panel looks stylish at the head of the bed, in the nursery. If the color scheme seems too colorful, it is balanced with a few white fragments.

Niche selection

When trying to disguise niches that seem like a lack of a room, they often achieve the opposite effect. It is better to go the other way by highlighting them. To do this, wallpaper of a different color is glued there or a couple of tones darker than the main ones. If you apply textured wallpaper, equip a niche with lighting, it will create an interesting interior relief, enliven the room with a play of shadows.

The use of cold tones will allow you to visually move the wall away, to shift the focus to the object that is located in the niche.

Room zoning

Sometimes one room is divided into zones, each of which performs its own function. Along with other methods, a method is used when part of the space is separated from the rest using wallpaper with patterns or other color shades.

The solutions are quite unusual. Separation is achieved not only by color, but also by texture. One option is to separate, for example, the kitchen from the dining room, pasting it with structural wallpaper for painting. Some zone is decorated with a floral ornament, and the next one is decorated with a checkered print of the same range. The main thing will be not to make a mistake with the arrangement of furniture.

Zoning with wallpaper will help to define the boundaries of the zone without effort and extra spending: neither drywall partitions nor heavy curtains are required.

Brick or stone masonry in the spirit of a loft is less and less popular. Such a change in the interior requires a considerable investment of time and resources, which is not always acceptable due to the excessive load on the foundation. In a particularly small apartment, it is appropriate to replace this material with its imitation.

The room, pasted over with light wallpaper, is complemented by a wall, as it were, made of white brick. Red brick will look good surrounded by matte gray or white walls. An apron in the working area of the kitchen, a fake fireplace in the living room will not be discordant if the colors of the companions are correctly maintained. The texture of the brick is conveyed so realistically that it is possible to distinguish it from the real one only by touching it.

Photo wallpapers, like any cladding with an active pattern, are combined only with plain walls. It doesn't matter what story the eye falls on initially. The main thing is to follow the basic rules:

  • choose the right drawing;
  • guess the size;
  • observe the correspondence in quality and palette between the photo wallpapers and the main wallpapers.

Types of megacities will not have to be combined in color. They will go with almost everything, if they are not variegated or completely monophonic. Juicy greenery is best placed in rooms abounding in light. A white, beige or grayish main background harmonizes well with it.

Rooms with windows to the north are decorated with bright, large images. Sunflowers or oranges will warm and add sun. The rest of the walls are pasted over with light, warm, dim wallpaper.

Wall murals are also used for zoning, to emphasize the horizontal, to highlight architectural ledges, niches. Not so often they are combined with contrasting saturated companions: beige is combined with purple, green, blue with orange. Images with perspective will significantly affect the size of the room.

To emphasize the interesting texture of the coating, the room is decorated in a single color. The use of catchy textures must be balanced with calm shades, the absence of unnecessary details, patterns. Explicit texture is usually combined with the same companions or at least close in thickness. It is better not to place the seams between them on a flat wall, but to take them into a corner.

Textured wallpapers are the best alternative to liquid ones. The texture can appear in the form of stripes and curls, abstract images, vegetation. It is convenient to glue the coatings, you can paint them, they are joined on the walls, they decorate the ceilings with them.

At first glance, liquid wallpaper looks like decorative plaster, suitable for any room, goes well with non-woven.

The most acceptable combinations are those that are achieved by playing with color. Liquid wallpaper is easy to combine with each other, other materials, supplement with drawings, original patterns. A panel is created from them, and if “kneaded” thicker, then decorative three-dimensional elements, for example, imitation of stucco molding.

focus point

A kind of visual anchor that attracts the attention of the person entering the room, a beautiful detail that is the center of the interior, act as a focal point. It can be natural, such as a niche, a fireplace or a large window that offers a beautiful view.

If there are no such architectural details or a delightful panorama, then a painting, sculpture, furniture group, which the designer “appoints” as the main ones, can act as a focal point. Proper lighting, background wallpaper will help to highlight them. The latter are combined in such a way that part of the wall differs in shade from the main one and is monophonic or stands out with an unusual pattern. The effect can be complemented by framing, decorative ornaments.

decorative ornaments

To change the interior without starting a grandiose repair, it is enough to use ready-made or hand-made decorative stickers. They are easily glued, now there are such that they are removed without consequences.

The themes and style of this decor are very diverse, suitable for any stylistic direction: loft, avant-garde. These can be small stickers or large silhouette images of people or animals. With their help, they enliven the atmosphere of the children's room, place accents in the living room, combine disparate pieces of furniture, appliances in the kitchen, add positive to the bedroom.

The combination of wallpaper combinations in the rooms

Not everyone likes experiments, they decide to move away from the traditional wallpapering of each room with wallpaper of the same color. In order for the fresh renovation to look harmonious, it is first necessary to study a large number of recommendations from experienced designers, study examples with photos, and develop an idea that would take into account the functional features of each room.

Living room

The room where visitors are received is often called the hall. Here they receive guests, hold evening gatherings with tea parties, meet colleagues, important guests. Therefore, it should not only be comfortable for households, but also maintain the image of the owners as successful people, not without taste. It is not worth saving on the quality of finishing this room. Classics are applicable here, a combination of silk-screen printing, glass wallpaper, the use of non-woven, vinyl wallpaper.

The hall most often serves as a living room and dining room, sometimes a bedroom. Some of the corners can be a work area or a library. Wallpaper partners will help divide the space into zones. The main violin is played by the size of the room. If the living room is small, it is better to resort to light shades. In the vast expanses of fantasy, you can not limit, experiment with textures, colors.

The recreation area is usually made lighter, decorated with plain canvases or with a small pattern. The place where upholstered furniture is located, a fireplace group, plasma will benefit from more saturated colors, beautiful patterns.

Bedroom

Since the zone is intimate, they proceed only from their own preferences, having previously agreed on the basic principles with a partner.

The main role of the room is to help to relax, to provide a good rest. Bright contrasts, catchy patterns are not appropriate here. It is better to decorate the walls with soothing colors: beige and white, who likes a darker bedroom - various shades of brown, blue.

The texture is better to choose smooth. In addition to traditional, trendy fabric wallpapers look good in the bedroom. It is desirable that they echo with textiles: curtains, bedspreads. If you combine them with other types, then the joints will have to be beaten with moldings or slats due to a mismatch in the thickness of the materials.

Combining different types of wallpaper, the headboard is pasted over with textured, darker materials, photo wallpapers, and emphasis is placed on it. In order to isolate the sleeping place, the accent strip continues along the ceiling.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, solving the problem of the right combination of colors is not so simple. There is a lot of furniture here, one of the walls is more often occupied by tiles, there is very little space left for wallpaper. In addition, they need to be combined not only with all the furniture, but also with the work area, refrigerator, and other household appliances.

In order not to oversaturate the kitchen with paints, the wallpaper duet must be made neutral, without large patterns. A large kitchen-dining room is decorated more brightly, but pastel shades, light colors will still look more harmonious here, if the drawings are small.

Bathroom

The microclimate of the room is not conducive to pasting it with wallpaper. Other coatings that resist moisture well are more appropriate here. But if the bathroom is spacious, well ventilated, then it is quite possible to decorate it partially with wallpaper, especially since the canvases are easy to change if it suddenly turns out that they are slightly peeled off.

It is better to use moisture resistant, washable materials. Liquid wallpaper is also suitable, which, after hardening, is covered with acrylic varnish. Apply options with vinyl wallpaper. They are expensive, but their level of fixation can be increased with special glue. Moisture-resistant self-adhesive, glass wall paper is also a good solution. All of them are well combined with each other, with 3D, photo wallpapers. The latter are best not placed directly at the shower. This zone is decorated with tiles, and the wallpaper is pasted at the washing machine, sink, in the toilet area, where splashes do not reach. The main thing is that the combination of color and texture does not cause any complaints.

Children's

In this room, you can let the colors run wild. But even here it is better to adhere to the general rule and not combine more than 2-3 colors. Of these, only 2 can be saturated.

For the little ones, choose neutral shades. It is not necessary to follow the commitment of girls to pink, and the boys to blue. Any colors can be chosen. Among the most popular for children are green and yellow, peach and apricot, natural colors of wood, green tea, olive, lilac.

The nursery, like the bedroom, needs a comfortable environment. Gloomy shades are inappropriate here, bright and cheerful ones are welcome, but not distracting from classes. A room for two children can be divided into individual areas with different types of wallpaper, highlight the play area with accent canvases, diversify the design with decorative stickers in the form of animal silhouettes, geometric shapes, exotic plants, rockets and ships.

A patchwork technique is used so that the colors of the patches match the tone of the floor. A wall with photo wallpaper, stylized drawings will look good.

Hallway and corridor

This room is rarely spacious. In most cases, it is narrow and long. You should not make it very dark, except to make the lower part of the walls in darker colors if the border between the companions runs across.

The joint between the ceiling and the wall is often made out with a special side, where the backlight is masked. This technique helps to “raise” the stretch ceiling, revive the interior with glare from it. A cramped and narrow corridor will seem much more spacious with a competent wallpaper layout and thoughtful lighting.

In a room not cluttered with furniture, wallpaper inserts, moldings and borders look beautiful, in harmony with the mirror frame, medium-sized geometric and floral patterns.

The area closest to the front door should preferably be covered with washable wallpaper or wear-resistant glass. Posters, photographs, all kinds of stickers will help decorate the corridor and make it more alive.

Antique style, replete with columns, arches, marble elements, stucco can be realized without spending money on golden frescoes. Wallpaper imitating wall painting is combined with plain pastel colors. Wall murals with natural, historical scenes are placed on the walls. The style will be supported by moldings, moldings made of polyurethane.

The splendor of Rococo and Baroque will be emphasized by silk-screen printing, wallpaper on a fabric basis. Paper wallpapers will help to imitate woven trellises. Instead of stucco, pompous moldings will go.

Classic color schemes from milky to burgundy, geometric prints, panels, a combination of wallpaper horizontally are quite feasible. Wooden slats are placed at the joints, the bottom of the wall is sometimes decorated with carved wood or plastic.

For the Victorian style, the best print on the wallpaper is stripes and checks, floral motifs.

The Japanese entourage will be supported by natural laconic colors, themed photo wallpapers.

The interpenetration of Europe and China is expressed in elegance, a mixture of familiar furniture with paper panels. Oriental style is wallpaper with unusual birds, flowers.

The Turkish style will fill the bedroom with turquoise and azure, dictates that the headboard be decorated not with a square, but in the shape of a dome, an arch.

Rustic country and Provence will require simple textures on the walls, matte canvases with a small scattering of flowers. It is advisable to combine the colors of the wallpaper with the curtains.

The alpine chalet is characterized by simple materials, discreet cork or bamboo base in combination with imitation brickwork.

Modern trends take something from the classic interior, but there are also rough textures for metal or masonry. Photowall-paper with the image of mechanisms, gears is applied.

From the offers that are on the market, it is easy to get confused. Whitewashing, water-based painting is now used as a budget option that has been proven over the years. Those who want a more modern design, the interior space of the premises is finished with wood and stone, decorative plaster, PVC panels, eco-leather are used. On sale there is a special wall-mounted linoleum, which can only scare away the name. They have little in common with well-known flooring. All materials are good in their own way, have a special texture, certain decorative properties. But not everyone can compare with wallpaper for the price, ease of installation. In addition, a room completely “wired” with stone or tile is unlikely to amaze with comfort. The best option is to combine.

Wallpaper and panels

Decorative coating, which is now made from a wide variety of materials, goes well with wallpaper. This tandem always looks presentable, expensive. The material of the panels, depending on the style of the room, is used very different: PVC, gypsum, textiles, wood shavings, sometimes marble and metal. Someone manages to beat parquet and laminate on the walls. Why not?

Combination with brick

Many now fashionable styles (gothic, loft or Scandinavian) are very kind to unplastered walls. So that the brutality in the room does not go off scale, one of the walls is left “naked”, or only part of it. The rest of the perimeter is trimmed with wallpaper suitable for style and decor, colored or plain.

Combination with decorative stone

Depriving the walls of plaster, you will not always get to the brick. But if you still want something stone, then the exposed concrete wall can be trimmed with a decorative stone. The main requirement is to think over the decoration of the remaining walls, to link the types of coverage and decor with each other.

Tile

The most popular places of dwelling, a kitchen or a bathroom, cannot do without finishing with an equally popular material - tiles. Tile plus wallpaper is the most versatile option that allows you to realize design fantasies. In this pair, you can beat everything: the shape of the tile and the pattern of the wallpaper, their texture and color, the way the tiles are laid and the wallpaper is pasted.

The combination is built on contrast or combined with a common color, elements. Other materials can be connected to the combination: glass panels, decorative plaster.

Plaster

The material is used not only for leveling walls. When decorating an interior in an antique, Arabic or Gothic style, decorative plaster is indispensable. She will embody the beauty of marble, an ethnic plot. With its help create paintings, applications. A chic panel can be placed on only one wall. But there are many ideas on how to combine two popular materials.

The accent can be the plaster itself, the image on it. Or it becomes the background for the wall where bright photo wallpapers are pasted.

With timber and wood

The combination of wood and wallpaper is not a new technique. They have been used for over a century. Most often, the bottom of the wall is finished with wooden panels, and wallpaper is glued on the upper part.

There are wallpapers that themselves imitate logs stacked on top of each other, worn boards or insect-eaten tree bark. They can be played in the interior of both a city apartment and a country wooden house with beams under the ceiling and walls made of timber.

As with stone, an all-wooden environment needs to be loosened up with something to give the space a cozy residential feel. The beam in combination with light wallpaper is widely used for finishing summer cottages, cottages in a rustic, Scandinavian style. Fashionable now bamboo, cork wallpapers will fit well into wooden walls.

Today, design creativity in relation to interior design has become widespread. In this connection, a wide variety of combinations of various finishing materials has appeared. One of the commonly used methods of interior design is the use of various options for wallpapering. This allows you to get more originality in the atmosphere of the room, thereby obtaining a unique room.

Such a great demand for a similar way of decorating interior walls has created many proposals - manufacturers today produce a wide variety of types of wallpaper that differ both in structure and design. They even take into account the possibility of combining - on the canvases of different options, patterns and shades that combine between are created, which greatly simplifies the choice of different types of wallpaper for gluing walls.

Therefore, the combination of two or more types in the design of one room is a very fashionable trend today. Of course, the traditional method of gluing is not excluded.

Combination options for wallpapering different designs.

Consider what modern options for wallpapering today exist.

Combining different types to get a harmonious combination, they take into account the color, shade, pattern and ornament - their style, geometry, appearance, etc.

  1. One of the most common combination options is the use of two types, while differing in tone, but having the same color. Thus, you can decorate one or more walls of the room. Very often, in this version of gluing, wallpapers of beige, gray, and blue shades are combined.
  2. The second technique is able to give the room more dynamics. They can also focus on a separate section of the room, thus producing zoning. It involves a combination of plain colors with wallpaper that has a pattern or ornament. The only rule, as mentioned above, is that they must be combined with each other, in this case they must have a common color. Of course, you can always move away from the standards and implement a more daring solution, for example, pasting half the wall with plain wallpaper, and the second with a pattern.
  3. A variant of sticking of different types with a pattern. A common way is to combine wallpaper with vertical and horizontal stripes with wallpaper that has an ornament. Here the same rule - there must be something in common between them - very often it is a color or shade. Woody themes are well combined with ornaments, as well as having drawings of geometric shapes.

  4. A contrasting combination option implies the use of wallpapers that differ in colors in the design, so zoning can be done. This option is very popular with young people, as quite brightly contrasting colors are often combined with each other.

Ways to combine wallpaper when gluing

In addition to the combination of colors, there are various ways to stick them on the wall: the direction, the number of types of wallpaper, etc.

  1. Today, one of the fashionable solutions is wallpapering horizontally, when the wall is divided into two parts and pasted over in different colors and designs, although materials of the same color have also been used recently. It will be very relevant to use in this version a combination of materials of various textures. For example, at the bottom under brickwork, and at the top wallpaper under textiles. It is worth noting that the joints of two types must be decorated with special borders: paper, wood, PVC, etc. It is also worth noting that the bottom wallpaper must be at least 1 meter wide.

  2. Vertical stripes when decorating walls - two or more colors are combined, materials of the same texture and width are selected accordingly. Colors can be used monochrome or contrasting. You can also use wallpaper with a pattern, the main thing is to choose designs that combine with each other.

  3. Pasting the walls with wallpaper of different sizes and different designs. Usually the joints are pasted over with molding, which ultimately creates the effect of a panel. Looks very stylish and beautiful. In this way, a room is often zoned, for example, in the living room, you can select an area for a TV or a fireplace.
  4. Highlighting one of the walls with accent wallpaper that imitates panels is very relevant today. This is how a wall is often isolated in a bedroom, near which the head of the bed is located.
  5. Combining wallpaper using patches is a more creative way to wallpaper a wall. To beautifully perform such a combination, you need to select wallpapers that will blend well with each other. They are cut into pieces of the desired length and glued end-to-end, according to the principle of randomness or in some sequence.

  6. If the apartment has niches, or you plan to make them from drywall, then you can highlight them beautifully if you stick elegant wallpapers in them, these can be materials with some kind of pattern or just a different color.
  • When gluing vertically, if possible, use wallpaper of the same type, and always of the same thickness. Since otherwise the joints between the two views will be clearly visible.
  • When choosing combined wallpapers, so that they are combined, they should definitely be applied to each other.
  • When choosing a pattern, be sure to consider the configuration of the room for which they are selected: the area, whether it is square or elongated, high or low ceilings, the degree of illumination of the room. Color and pattern can play an important role in the design of the room: they will help to visually increase the space, and light ones will make the room brighter.

Options for wallpapering in different rooms

The design of the walls in the apartment is an important element of the entire interior, so manufacturers of building materials offer a variety of choices for their finishes. Wallpaper remains the main among a large number of materials, but modern design provides for original technologies for their application, for example, combining wallpaper.

The usual methods of pasting walls are still used, but they are being replaced by a fashionable way of combining wallpaper.

Any apartment pasted over with several types of wallpaper acquires some courage in the interior and looks especially advantageous against the background of standard design solutions. This is due to the use of diverse materials, colors and textures, which give the wall surfaces some dynamics.

The right choice of material is the key to success in gluing wallpaper of two types.

The interior design industry offers the following wallpaper combination options:

  1. Paper wallpapers can be combined with almost any two or more types of wallpaper, thanks to their flexibility and pliability, they can be used in hard-to-reach places on the walls;
  2. Vinyl wallpapers are strong, durable and resilient, experts recommend using them in the premises of an apartment where there is a maximum risk of mechanical damage (corridor or kitchen), the best way to combine them with paper wallpapers;
  3. Non-woven wallpapers are valued for their special individual texture and the ability to hide minor wall imperfections (dents, scratches, etc.), they are well combined with paper and vinyl type wallpapers;
  4. Textile wallpaper is a very spectacular and expensive decoration for the walls of an apartment, it is better to use them for gluing in a bedroom or living room, they are well combined with non-woven and paper wallpaper;
  5. Liquid wallpaper is similar to decorative plaster, they can be used in any room of the apartment and they go well with non-woven wallpaper.

To achieve exclusivity in design, it is necessary to combine wallpapers correctly. Our advice for you in the following article:

Properly selected materials, their textures, thickness and colors are the key to the perfect combination of wallpaper.

Combination methods

  1. When sticking wallpaper of two types, you can use the technique of decorating wallpaper with patterns and plain options - this option is perfect for a bedroom.
  2. If you use a light solid background and bright repeating dark patterns on the walls of the room, you can create a harmonious design.
  3. If you want to stick bright wallpapers, you can advise to make smooth transitions of less saturated shades.
  4. You can revive the room by using the technique of decorating its individual walls. For example, in rooms where the corners in the interior are pronounced, you can decorate adjacent walls with different wallpapers or extend the wallpaper to the ceiling. You can also use a combination of several textures.
  5. The most popular type of combination is pasting several wallpaper samples on the upper and lower parts of the walls. In such cases, so that the contradiction when looking at the walls does not stand out so clearly, you can use paper borders.
  6. In studio apartments, a room can be divided into zones by gluing different types of wallpaper, for example, dividing the kitchen and living areas.
  7. In children's rooms, you can apply a patchwork combination, giving the little owner a rainbow mood or an unusual pattern on the wall from the remnants of wallpaper.

Pasted wallpapers of several types can transform the space of rooms: focus on the main wall, beat niches in the interior, highlight the fireplace or highlight the area of seed photographs.

How to choose wallpaper suitable for a particular room, because manufacturers offer a huge selection? We answer the question on the next page of the site:

Variations of wallpapering the spirit of species that exist today

Vertical combination, which visually raise the height of the ceilings and horizontal, which expands the space.

In the first case, you can use regular vertical elements (stripes) or deliberately avoid regularity. With this form, the material can be with any pattern and any color, but it is better to choose the same wallpaper texture, otherwise it will not turn out beautifully.

The second type of wallpapering of two types refers to the classics of the interior. The division zone can be marked with a simple border or wallpaper in a single-color version and wallpaper with a large pattern.

If the choice is made, then you should think about the practical part of wallpapering. Different wallpapers require a different approach - you need different glue and care will also not be the same. When using the same materials, it is easier to remove the joints or even overlap, if the textures and type of material are different, it is worth resorting to using wallpaper tapes.

In order to wallpaper a room of several types, you must:

  • Prepare the walls (clean, putty, reprime);
  • Prepare glue, apply it to wallpaper or walls;
  • Stick the main wallpaper background;
  • Stick a wallpaper option for combining (next to or overlapped);
  • Perform finishing (remove joints, use a border or ribbons, trim unnecessary parts of the wallpaper).

Thanks to these simple rules, two types of wallpaper stickers will bring pleasure, and the result will exceed the wildest expectations.

You can use this method of decorating walls for any accent in the interior, for example, to mark the head of the bed or the place of the fireplace.

Color and pattern: combination basics

The wallpaper with pictures should contain the same tones as in the base background of the wallpaper or close to it.

Types of ornaments:

  • Geometric;
  • Classical;
  • Floral.

They are well combined with plain wallpaper or wallpaper with small stripes. Floral wallpapers look good with wallpapers that imitate stone, wood, etc.

An excellent base for wallpaper with a pattern or a bright color will be neutral wallpapers - white, cream, grayish. Wallpaper with a geometric pattern and an abstract image will look beautiful together.

Texture in combination

Particularly popular is the textured coating or textured wallpaper, which are great for combination.

Patterns of textured wallpaper:

  • stripes;
  • Classic patterns;
  • Strokes in an abstract style;
  • Floral motifs.

Textured wallpaper is best used to highlight columns, niches, arches in the room. Textured wallpapers are an interesting option, but it is more practical to choose paper-based wallpapers for combining.

To highlight specific areas, it is customary to use moldings. Their feature is that it is very easy to work with them, and they are inexpensive. The following post is about it:

Experts pay attention to the following secrets:

  • Wallpaper and glue are best purchased in the same store;
  • To beautifully glue the wallpaper, you need to start from the top, smoothly moving down the wall;
  • Wallpaper with different patterns is better to buy in one store.
  • It is recommended to make allowances on the seams, to avoid shrinkage when drying;
  • You need to carefully measure the wallpaper strips and select the pattern.

These simple rules will help you easily paste two types of wallpaper.

Combining wallpaper in the interior (photo)

Facing the walls of the hall with the same wallpaper is a thing of the past, giving way to stylish design solutions for decorating the space. Today, the focus is on combination - a design technique that allows you to beat any features of the room, advantageously emphasizing the desired area.

Which are suitable?

The combination technique allows the use of different types of finishes. Each material has its advantages, although it is not without its drawbacks.

The most popular of them include:

  • paper- mostly two-layer, able to hold out on the walls for up to 5 years (the budget alternative, which is not very resistant to steam and moisture, looks simple);

  • vinyl- elite roll finishing, capable of correcting wall irregularities, including canvases with a solid, smooth, porous structure and embossing, designed for up to 15 years of operation (harmful, as it releases formaldehyde vapor into the air);

  • non-woven- elastic fabrics meter wide, distinguished by practicality, color fastness, resistance to accidental mechanical touches, durability, attractive texture, but attracting dust;

  • textile– wallpaper with a premium front side, which is an excellent choice for the hall as an accent, made in the form of interwoven threads glued to a paper base and closely spaced textile fibers (a capricious finish in pasting, which is not resistant to moisture);

  • the liquid wallpaper– coatings in the form of a powder or a ready-mix, which, after facing, must be covered with a layer of acrylic lacquer to increase practicality (ecological finish as an accent, demanding in choosing a companion, as it has a special volumetric texture);

  • photo wallpaper- a classic combination technique, which is a paper-based wallpaper in the form of a solid accent pattern or a canvas with an image fit (their weakness is the fear of ultraviolet radiation);

  • cullet- canvases made of fiberglass mass with shaping it by means of special impregnations. This is a wallpaper with original texture and good performance.

Pros and cons

It is no secret that each room has its own characteristics. The combination of two different materials of the same line is a non-standard solution for interior composition, through which you can perform a number of tasks. This technique involves a combination of plain wallpaper and canvas with a pattern in the lining. The uniqueness of the idea lies in the fact that the print can be made with paints, photo printing, embossing, it can also be presented in the form of an invoice.

The raw materials used for this decor are diverse: the materials on the market are full of beauty of shades, versatility of themes, extraordinary texture. Each type of cladding has its pros and cons, provides for combination, is distinguished by the richest color gamut and different performance characteristics.

By taking a combination, you can mask the unevenness of the walls, pasting the most practical companions in the right place, beating different possibilities of wallpaper (for example, using washing in places with an increased likelihood of contamination).

The design approach has a lot of advantages.

The combination of wallpaper of two types allows you to:

  • beat the design features of the room, deliberately emphasizing ledges, niches, panels, turning the shortcomings of the area into bright accents of style;
  • muffle an overly bright and patterned companion through a calm contrast, saving the interior from an abundance of variegation and oppressive atmosphere;
  • accentuate a favorable place in the room, thereby distracting from unsightly corners, emphasizing the uniqueness of the design;
  • zone the room into certain functional areas, thereby introducing an unobtrusive organization into the space;

  • reduce the consumption of material for adjusting the pattern, if necessary, using the remnants of canvases from neighboring rooms;
  • give the room a personality, using beautiful examples of experienced interior designers, adjusting them to the features of the hall and your taste preferences;
  • change the aesthetic perception of the room by infusing the desired shade, pattern, adding lighting and the desired temperature to the environment;
  • combine together disparate pieces of existing furniture and other interior elements (curtains, poufs, decorative pillows, table lamps, floor lamps, wall lamps, paintings, etc.);

  • choose your “color type”, thanks to which you can create the right mood and increase your potential, make the atmosphere of the room cozy at home;
  • give the space the desired status by combining expensive and fashionable textures that match the pieces of furniture;
  • depending on the shades used, their saturation and the size of the picture, create a stylish interior in a classic, ethnic or modern design, pointing to its idea;
  • rid the space of boredom and routine, filling it with fresh colors.

The combination of wallpaper has a lot of design possibilities: modern manufacturers, knowing this technique, offer paired canvases for sale, not limited in subject matter. In addition, there are always wallpapers in any style on store shelves, be it classic flowers or creative abstraction.

If desired, you can always choose a combination, taking into account your own preferences and the budget planned for the purchase.

Flaws

The combination of two types of wallpaper is not always harmonious. This may be due to several reasons.

One of them is the rule of texture compatibility: not all canvases, different in composition and appearance, can be mixed. For example, smooth paper wallpapers make it easier to look at vinyl or embossed textile options.

They will not fit non-woven either: the finish should be selected taking into account the status of each type. To make the reception successful, it is worth beating it with the use of photo wallpapers.

Different width and relief matter. Porous thick wallpapers, combined with thin paper or smooth non-woven ones, do not create a feeling of solidity, therefore they look fragmented and resemble hastily glued lining with remnants. Some canvases are difficult to pick up due to the lack of identical shades.

The method of combining two wallpapers has disadvantages:

  • it does not always give the desired effect and expressiveness;
  • inappropriate in small rooms, as when using large drawings it creates a feeling of congestion and limited space;
  • does not look beautiful and stylish if made unprofessionally, thoughtlessly, without a pre-prepared sketch;

  • requires a clear place for each piece of furniture, otherwise it loses its expressiveness;
  • compares each element of the decor with itself, therefore it implies stylish furniture and does not accept unnecessary details that overload the overall look;
  • far from always pulling out the adjustment of trapezoid rooms with a broken perspective, giving it an even more awkward look, visually warping the walls;
  • often has an unsuccessful print in the form of a small strip, polka dots, cells that create ripples in the eyes, irritate just a few days after pasting.

How can you glue?

Methods for gluing wallpaper of two types are multifaceted. There are several original design techniques that are worth considering.

The size of the picture, the color of the paintings and the texture depend on the height of the ceiling. If it is low (2.5 m), the shades should be light, the pattern should be small, the texture should be soft. If the ceilings are low, it is preferable to combine using stripes or a canvas without a pronounced pattern with a plain coating.

With a high ceiling, a large print is harmonious, stretched wide or horizontal stripes.

The rules of pasting dictate the dimensions of the hall: the larger it is, the brighter the shade can be, the more expressive the pattern. If the room is narrow, you can combine with the entry of the canvas on a long wall. This will allow you to beat the shortcomings of the layout.

In cases where the entrance to the room falls on a narrow side, it is necessary to highlight the opposite wall in a contrasting color, beating the corners with wallpaper for short walls. Additionally, you can use special vinyl-based stickers: they perfectly correct layout flaws.

Use the techniques of combining experienced designers:

  • horizontal- a stylish solution in which the wallpaper is glued parallel to the floor by using canvases with an original texture or alternating exclusively paired wallpapers with a smooth transition of the print;
  • vertical- a classic technique that allows you to divide the walls vertically: highlighting the contrast in the form of two or three stripes of wallpaper with a pattern (maximum one wall) and smoothing the remaining planes with plain canvases;
  • decorating walls with panel inserts- gluing the main plain wallpaper with the addition of small fragments of accent paintings framed in moldings or a ceiling plinth to the surface of the walls;
  • emphasizing ledges and niches- highlighting design features by gluing contrasts or smoothing them with plain companions.

How to avoid mistakes?

To avoid common mistakes, it is worth considering a few simple rules:

  • if the space of the hall is small, exclude from the list of preferences wallpaper with a large print that does not correspond to reality (large decor elements have a pressing effect);
  • exclude the combination of different styles: ethnic and modern, antiquity and technology, conservatism and abstraction (they cannot be combined into a duet);
  • buy canvases at the same time, if possible, in natural light: this way you can check them for compatibility of tones;
  • if there are no combining skills, it is better to buy a contrast with a pattern of several shades: it will be easier to choose a calm companion for it (it is better to buy photo wallpapers);

  • do not combine by alternating strips of the same width: it is devoid of taste, splits the room into parts, gives the room a feeling of being in a gypsy tent;
  • exclude diagonal reception: in most cases, this leads to a visual distortion of the wall;
  • bright and hot colors irritate the psyche and provoke pain in the eyes, it is more expedient to dilute the bright contrast with a companion of the pastel group;
  • the combination of a floral pattern with textural ornaments should be dosed: an abundance of contrast overloads the room and quickly gets bored;
  • do not confuse brightness and tone: shades can be combined in tone, but the brightness of two companions is unacceptable, only one can dominate.

The point of using combined wallpapers is to make the room individual, beautiful and cozy. You do not need a lot of contrast and variegation: this is how the print loses its significance. The unity of style is achieved by moderation. A contrasting color is necessary to highlight the details of a pattern or a specific area of the hall. It is applied only on one wall or in one place of the plane.

It is extremely important that the room is designed in the same style, otherwise the acquisition of uniqueness is impossible, the combination is meaningless and will not have the desired effect.

From different materials

It is quite possible to create a spectacular wall cladding with different materials without a sense of imbalance. It's extremely simple. If you have a sense of taste, you can combine different finishes, while it will look appropriate, cozy and fashionable.

To correctly and harmoniously combine two types of wallpaper, it is worth:

  • select canvases of the same thickness (this will reduce the accentuation of the joints and make the vertical transitions of the canvases invisible);
  • pay attention to texture: a glossy surface simplifies any canvas, so it is better to replace it with embossing, and matte often needs a similar companion support;
  • pay attention to color: at least one of the contrasting shades of the two canvases should be common;

  • understand the purpose of the room: it is inappropriate to glue wallpaper with funny children's drawings or the theme of the bathroom on the walls of the hall;
  • decide on the dominant: the accent with the print should not be large;
  • select contrasts deliberately: animal print is not combined with polka dots, stripes, zigzags, flowers.

Different sizes

In order for the combination to be harmonious, the sizes of the canvases must be different. The chosen technique is appropriate in one room, so the renovation will look unique and stylish. The combination of drawings of different sizes should be careful: this is only permissible in a spacious room. The print may be different, but large sizes are unacceptable on two canvases.

The modern approach allows the use of repeating colors through texture when pasting. It can be an animal print and wallpaper with a plush or velor texture, canvases with monograms and a companion with imitation plaster stains, a mix of floral motifs and embossed stains in the form of curls. The main thing to understand is that two drawings often overload the room than fill it with the desired effect.

Color combinations

The main criteria for choosing a shade are psychology and color combination. To do this, you can refer to the color wheel, which will demonstrate the correct arrangement of contrasts.

It is important to remember: warm shades (beige, cream, peach) give comfort and a relaxing atmosphere, fresh tones (mint, blue, blue-green) can bring coldness and lethargy into the space.

Eliminate the abundance of blue and purple: they have a negative effect on the psyche, causing depression in the elderly. If you want freshness, you should look at the contrast of beige and turquoise tones. The abundance of orange, red is unacceptable.

Monochrome gamma can cause negativity: you need to combine black and white shades sparingly. It is more expedient to beat the contrast, using a gray pattern with a silver coating or embossing on a white background, supporting the atmosphere with furniture with black decor.

The embossing technique makes the room luxurious: made in coffee, lilac shades, it will look stylish if it is shaded by a solid companion without radiance. To tie two canvases together, you can stick stickers on calm wallpapers or hang pictures that match the color of the pattern with a bright print.

The best combinations are:

  • green and beige;
  • lilac and silver;
  • olive and orange;
  • lilac and fuchsia;

  • sand and diluted turquoise;
  • white, gray and silver;
  • cocoa color with milk and pink;
  • coffee, beige and gold.

In this part, I will directly talk about the technology of gluing combined non-woven vinyl wallpaper using a specific example. If someone has not read, then by combined I mean wallpapers from the same series, but in different colors. For a more detailed understanding of the process, I will give the names of different wallpaper rolls, as shown in the photo below:

The material of the article is quite voluminous, so if you are interested in specific points, then use the navigation menu:

1. Selection and preparation of glue

One of the most important aspects of the process of pasting walls with wallpaper is the choice of glue. Only high-quality glue will make the adhesion of the wallpaper to the wall surface the most reliable and will avoid problems in the future. At the moment, there are a huge number of types of wallpapers on the market that differ in their composition. For almost every type of wallpaper there is a specialized glue.

I used Quelyd glue, designed for glass and non-woven wallpaper. This glue is a white powder that must be diluted in water. If you decide to use this glue, then detailed instructions on the proportions are indicated on the package. Also on the packaging you can find information about the pasting area, which should have enough adhesive.

To prepare the glue, you will need a small plastic bucket with a volume of about 5 liters. It is necessary to fill the bucket with the calculated amount of water (see information on the package) corresponding to the amount of glue that you are going to use. Next, you need to start kneading the water with a brush, creating a small whirlpool and at the same time gently pour in the glue. The whole process must be carried out gradually, slowly, to avoid the formation of adhesive lumps. After preparing the glue, it must be allowed to brew for 15 minutes, then vigorously mix and get to work.

Important: do not dilute all the glue at once, prepare at least ¼ part, try it. Firstly, it will be possible to correct the consistency in the future, and secondly, you may simply not master all the glue, and it’s much more pleasant to work with fresh glue.

2. Where should you start wallpapering?

This question is asked by everyone who first encounters wallpapering. Previously, in Soviet times, paper wallpapers were used everywhere, which were glued with an overlap, it was required to start pasting the walls from the window, in which case the joints between the wallpapers in natural light were the least noticeable.

Now the vast majority of wallpaper is glued end-to-end. Therefore, the choice of the starting point for gluing should be based on the following considerations:

  • Convenience. For example, it is more convenient for me to glue wallpaper, moving from left to right, that is, joining and equaling the left edge of the strip;
  • Wallpaper consumption. Before starting pasting, it is necessary to figure out how to reduce consumption and rationally use wallpaper trimmings;
  • Individual characteristics. In the example given in this article, I start sticking from the corner of the room, since this is the only way to ensure an even and neat joint of the combined wallpaper;

3. Technology for gluing non-woven wallpaper

I would like to highlight the general points that will help to understand the principle of pasting walls with non-woven wallpaper:

  1. Strips of wallpaper are cut depending on the height of the wall and the margin for fitting. For example, if the wallpaper is monotonous (without fitting), then you need to take into account only the height of the wall and the margin for trimming near the ceiling and floor (no more than 10 cm), and if the wallpaper has a pattern that requires fitting, then accordingly we need to take into account the height of the wall, and margin for fitting, and margin for trimming. The margin for fitting depends on the vertical step of the pattern;

    If you are afraid that you may incorrectly calculate the length of the strip needed to fit, then cut the wallpaper in place. That is, you need to glue the first strip, then unfold the roll, join the pattern on the roll with the already glued strip, make a mark and cut off the wallpaper strip

  2. Wallpaper glue applied to the wall with a roller on an area slightly larger than the width of the strip of wallpaper, it is more convenient to smear the corners with a brush;
  3. Wallpaper strips are glued end to end. They begin to glue the wallpaper strip from top to bottom, leading a little to the ceiling, and at the same time align it either along the vertical line drawn (if this is the first strip on the wall), or along the edge of the already pasted wallpaper strip;
  4. Then the wallpaper strip is smoothed out, it is necessary to expel air bubbles and excess glue. Movements must be made from the center of the strip to its edges. For smoothing, use a plastic spatula, a dry clean cloth or a wallpaper brush;
  5. The glue that has come out of the joint of the wallpaper must be removed with a damp, clean cloth;
  6. The joint of the wallpaper must be carefully ironed; for this, a special roller is used, but you can also confine yourself to a plastic spatula;
  7. Excess wallpaper from above and below is cut off with a clerical knife on a metal spatula.

4. How to join wallpaper of different colors in the corner of a room?

This is one of the first questions that arises when pasting walls with wallpaper of different colors. We will try to analyze it in as much detail as possible.

The method of wallpaper docking discussed below is called "trimming" or "cutting" the wallpaper in the corner.

The essence of the method is that the wallpaper is glued with a slight overlap, then a cut is made along this overlap, respectively, immediately through two layers of wallpaper, the excess wallpaper is removed, and the joint is smoothed.

In my case, wallpapers of different colors are joined, so the border between the canvases should run strictly along the corner of the room, respectively, and the cut is made along the corner, but if strict separation of the wallpaper in the corner is not required, then it is better to make a cut on one of the walls, retreating a small distance from the corner (5-15 mm), so the joint will be smoother.

An example of docking wallpaper in the corner of a room:

Step 1. We need to draw two vertical lines on adjacent walls, this is done with a simple pencil. Since the width of the roll (in my case) is 53 cm, and the overlap needs to be done, about 5 cm, then it is necessary to step back from the corner of the wall about 48 cm, in one direction and the other and draw vertical lines using the building level or plumb line.

Step 2. Then we need to apply glue within these lines. We take a roller and a tray with glue and carefully apply glue to the wall, coat hard-to-reach places (corners) with a brush.

Step 3. We take a strip of patterned wallpaper and carefully glue it from top to bottom, smoothing out the bumps with a special plastic spatula, and you can also use a clean cloth or wallpaper brush.

In the photo below, we see that the wallpaper is pasted with an overlap on the adjacent wall within 5 cm:

Step 4. Excess wallpaper that goes to the floor or ceiling is cut off with a metal spatula.

Step 6. Carefully smooth the wallpaper in the corner:

1. It is very important that the knife is sharp, then the joint will be neat and even.

2. It is much more convenient to make a cut together: one holds a spatula, the other cuts.

Step 8. Removing cut strips of wallpaper:

In my case, the “patterned” wallpaper turned out to be under the “green”, so I bend the wallpaper a little (photo above) and pull out the cut off strip of the “patterned” wallpaper:

Step 9. The wall under the bent wallpaper must be smeared with glue using a brush, and then firmly press the wallpaper against the wall:

Step 10. We smooth the wallpaper at the junction with a plastic spatula. The joint of the wallpaper in the corner is ready:

If plain or striped wallpaper is used, then it is more correct to make the joint not in the very corner of the room, but on the wall, retreating 10-20 mm from the corner, so it is easier to make a neat cut and the seam will be even

5. Wallpapering around switches and sockets

If the socket and switch have not yet been installed, then steps 1 and 2 can be skipped:

  1. De-energize the switch or socket, and then carefully remove it from the socket and disconnect the wire;
  2. Hide the wire in the socket so that it does not interfere with pasting, having previously insulated it;
  3. Stick a piece of wallpaper over the hole for the switch or outlet;
  4. Take a clerical knife and make a circular cut along the contour of the hole;
  5. Carefully smooth the wallpaper with a plastic trowel next to the hole.

6. Pasting the room with combined wallpaper. Main steps.

After arranging the joint in the corner, you yourself choose in which direction to move. I began to paste over the wall with "green" wallpaper. Having almost completely glued this wall, I left room only for the extreme strip, since it needs to be joined through the slot with the “white” wallpaper.

Then I returned to corner #1 and began to move towards the window, pasting the wall with “patterned” wallpaper:

Then, in corner No. 2, I joined the “patterned” wallpaper with the “white” ones using the same technology that was presented above, that is, through a slit. The docking process is shown in the photo:

I left the wall with the window for last, as it was necessary to replace the radiator and paint the heating riser. I switched to a long wall with “white” wallpaper (item No. 17 according to the diagram), again drew a vertical line along the level and began to paste over the wall from left to right.

In corner No. 4, I made a junction of “white” wallpapers with “green” ones (photo below):

Lastly, as mentioned above, I took up the wall with a window.

The main task when pasting this wall was to join the wallpaper through the cut above and below the window. The point is that due to the window opening, the height of the joint in this case will be minimal, and the joint located under the window can be hidden under the heating radiator. Therefore, the pasting scheme shows that the movement when pasting wallpaper is carried out from the corners to the center of the wall. Strips 33 and 35, as well as 30 and 32 are joined through the slot. The gluing process is clearly shown in the photo below:
