Well pump is not afraid of sand. Borehole pumps for dirty water with sand. Which borehole pumps to buy

In individual housing construction, when constructing a water supply system, surface pumps are used for a water well and for a well. When a water supply system is built on the basis of a well, pumping stations equipped with a relay unit and a membrane tank allow you to build a system with quick-release equipment. Such equipment can be used seasonally, or you can even put it under lock and key every time you leave the dacha, or take it with you.

In the case of using a well, you can also construct a similar usage scheme. However, it has a number of features that should be taken into account when using surface stations as pumping equipment.

Into the well, in view of him design features, water flows gradually from the sandy aquifer. The main volume of water in the well ranges from 4 to 20 tons. This amount of water allows solid impurities to settle to the bottom. In the subsurface layer, well water is obtained relatively free of solids.

In the well the situation is somewhat different. During intensive pumping, water enters the well cavity from the aquifer with high pressure. The volume of the cavern is small, so sand brought by water has virtually nowhere to settle. The sand is sucked up by pumping equipment.

In which wells can a surface pump be used?

One more thing. In deep wells it is not possible to use a surface pumping station. For these purposes, a submersible well pump is more suitable. The surface station can be used in shallow wells, comparable in depth to ordinary wells - 8-12 meters. We must not forget that, just like from a well, it is necessary not only to raise water from a well, but also to supply it to the house, sometimes to the second and third floors.

We examined the difference between a shallow well and an ordinary well in the previous paragraph. It turns out that at the same depth in the same area, the well will not “produce” water with sand, but the well will. You will have to select a pumping station for the well that is guaranteed to work in such conditions.

Now let's move on to the question of which pump is best for a well with sand under the specified conditions. It is worth choosing an option that has the following characteristics:

  1. Increased power, allowing you to plan a reserve of 20-30 percent for operation in adverse conditions.
  2. Increased throughput and, as a result, increased cross-sections of all through holes and pipelines.
  3. Basic equipment of a dry running relay in case of sand filter clogging.
  4. Sand filter complete with built-in separator.
  5. Possibility of easy replacement of the filter on the supply line.

Not every pumping station is suitable for working with a tube well whose trunk is saturated with sand. However, you can use almost any station by equipping its supply pipe with a sand filter and inserting an additional filter with flushing between the electric motor and the membrane tank.

Why can’t a washable filter be used in front of the station’s electric motor? Because in this case, a clogged filter will reduce the pressure and eventually the engine will burn out.

Why is it necessary to place a washable filter in front of the membrane tank? Because if you install a filter after the tank, after 1-2 months of operation you will have a non-working membrane tank completely clogged with sand.

The good thing about a washable filter is that it can be cleaned by draining the pulp (sand and water) through a drain hole with a tap. Currently produced filters with a transparent body allow you to visually monitor the condition of the filter and the amount of sand deposited in it.

If you select a mesh that is too fine, the pump motor will not be able to create the required pressure in the water supply system behind the filter.

Of course, the cost of a washable filter is an order of magnitude higher than that of replacement filter elements. But you don’t need to change it, just wash it.

The cost of the simplest washable filter starts from 1,500 rubles.

What surface pumps can be used

So, surface pumps for a water well with sand must be of increased power, must have a sufficient electric motor life and must be equipped with a sand filter. Surface pumps for water wells with sand can also be additionally equipped with washable filters that will protect the station itself and plumbing system houses where water is supplied to water collection points.

Submersible pumps in sand wells

A few words about submersible pumps that can be used in deep wells. Which pump is best for a sand well? One that is able to “digest” water with sand and supply it upward to the water pumping unit. Already here, at the top, it is possible to organize filtration and removal of sand from the water coming from the submersible pump.

There are domestic and imported pumps on sale that are designed to work in such conditions. Several types of Aquarius pumps, and the well-known Brook, are capable of delivering water and sand to the surface without harm.

Why shouldn’t you install a sand filter in front of a submersible pump in a well? Because if it becomes clogged, you will have to lift the filter, the pump, and 8-10 meters of the supply pipeline to the surface.

In the case when the filter element is on the surface, it will be enough to simply wash it.

Pumping a well with a pump

Another case when you need a pump that can “digest” water and sand is pumping any well after drilling. At this moment, the final formation of the well cavity occurs, and its further successful use requires pumping.

How to select sand from a well at this stage? The best option is to pump it out. Can be used surface station, if the well is shallow, or submersible pump. If the well has a depth of 15-20 meters.

In everyday life and production, there is often a need to pump out water. This may be needed, for example, to clean reservoirs, wells or boreholes.

But it is not always necessary to “deal” with clean water, free of impurities, sand, silt and other deposits: when the need arises to pump out water with various types of inclusions, sand pumps will help to cope with this task perfectly.

1 What is a sand pump?

The sand pump is pumping equipment: these are single-stage, cantilever, single-entry centrifugal pumps with an impeller (open). Its main task is to pump various types, including sand, abrasive slurries, ore dressing products, as well as alumina production, water with admixtures of clay, silt, etc. However, there are certain restrictions on the physical and chemical properties of that liquid that requires pumping or cleaning.

Indicators that the pumped solution must have:

  1. The temperature can be from 5ºC and not exceed 60ºC.
  2. The density of the pumped liquid is up to 1300 kg/m³.
  3. The concentration of solids (inclusions) should not exceed 25%.
  4. The maximum size of these same inclusions can reach up to 10 mm, no more.
  5. Maximum microhardness – 9000 MPa.

It is better to pay attention to these indicators, since if they are observed, the pumping equipment will operate most efficiently and for a long time.

1.1 Areas of application

The main areas of application of this type of pump are metallurgical, mining, construction and other industries, however, this is not a complete list of areas where it can be useful.

The sludge and sand pump can perform the following tasks:

  • for cleaning and subsequent filling of trenches (when laying cables, pipelines, etc.);
  • removal of sludge, silt, settled dirt, clay, Wastewater, various types of household and industrial waste;
  • for cleaning caissons during construction work;
  • coastal restoration;
  • pumping out marble dust;
  • for cleaning various types of reservoirs;
  • extracting sand from the ocean floor;
  • the pump is also suitable for pumping sand from wells and wells;
  • this drainage pump can be useful in the destruction of gold mining tailings, to improve the operation of the well in ball mills;
  • on wastewater treatment plants, for the collection well of processing plants, as well as to remove materials from settling tanks.

This pumping equipment is not intended for pumping, pumping water and other cleaning work in fire and explosion hazardous conditions.

2 What types of sand pumps are there?

Wet part protection determines the division of pumps by type, and also demonstrates the maximum permissible size of solids that the pump can pass:

  1. Gummed (PR) Particle size up to 2 mm.
  2. Corundated (PC) Particles with a diameter of 1 mm.
  3. Made from wear-resistant cast iron (types P and Pb). Pumps of this type are capable of passing particles of clay, silt, sand and other substances up to 6 mm in size.

Depending on how the shaft is positioned, horizontal and vertical pumps are distinguished. Horizontal models include PR, P, PB, and PC models; vertical models include PKVP and PRVP.

  1. Type P pumps are cantilever horizontal single-stage pumps with an impeller on one side. These centrifugal samples are used for pumping and transferring products obtained as a result of ore beneficiation and alumina production. The material from which the durable part is made is wear-resistant cast iron. The density of the solution is up to 1300 kg/m³.
  2. The permissible cavitation reserve is the height below which the designer cannot fall - 2.0 m.
  3. The PB type pump is also horizontal and cantilever. But at the same time, centrifugal pumps of the PB type allow you to have a cavitation reserve of 5.0 m.
  4. PR differs from previous models in that the main part of the flow part is lined with corundum in an organic binder.

Pumps of the PKVP and PRVP types are also cantilever pumps, but they are vertical. They are submersible with supports outside of pumping water or other liquid.

The durable part in PRVP consists of wear-resistant rubber, while in PKVP it is lined with corundum in an organic knit.

2.1 Surface and submersible models

A borehole (in particular, sand) drainage pump can be either surface or submersible in its structure.

In the first case, it is a powerful device with a rotor that pumps water or sludge by sucking it through the working chamber. Such pumps are capable of lifting hydraulic fluids at depths of up to 10 meters.

  • Advantages of surface pumping equipment:
  • the ability to transport liquids over fairly long distances;
  • possibility of continuous long-term work;

high degree of reliability, since there is no need to immerse in an aggressive aquatic environment.

  • Flaws:
  • high noise level;

impossibility of pump operation deeper than 10 meters.

As for submersible models, this is equipment designed for pumping water directly to a well or from a well. During operation, they are immersed under the very thickness of the water and left there until the process of pumping the well is completed.

A device of this type is characterized by greater productivity than the previous type. Their advantage is also the ability to work at deeper depths of a well or borehole (the exact characteristics depend on the specific manufacturer and model of pumping equipment).

  • Strengths of submersible pumps:
  • small size and weight;
  • Long-term use without maintenance is possible;
  • high performance;
  • drying protection; there is a possibility of use in automatic mode

Which type of pump to choose - surface or submersible - depends on the depth at which you are going to carry out the work (cleaning process, pumping, etc.), at what speed you need to carry out this work. The issue of price is also important: since submersible samples are more expensive.

2.2 How does a screw well pump work?

A screw well drainage pump is a type of submersible pump that specializes in pumping water from a well (hence the name), and is one of the most popular types of sand pumps.

In these pumps, the working element is a broaching screw or auger (hence the second name - auger). Systems of this type allow their use in wells with high levels of contamination. The screw design prevents sand and other types of small waste from getting clogged anywhere and blocking the operation of the pump.

And the fact that as the rotor accelerates, productivity increases, but the outlet pressure remains virtually unchanged, makes it possible to use screw pumps not only for pumping and purifying water from a well or well, but also in production, for example, when pumping petroleum products.

Screw models have a number of advantages, including:

  1. Convenient design. Such pumps are extremely easy to operate: no special knowledge is required.
  2. Easy to repair. Both the mechanical seals and the oil seals are designed in such a way that if the need arises, they can be replaced in the shortest possible time without using any additional equipment.
  3. No vibrations. Screw pumps create virtually no vibrations, despite their high power and a large number of working speed. This happens due to the use of rotors with hollow parts drawn out.
  4. Long service life. This advantage “follows” from the previous one: it is precisely because of the absence of vibrations that screw pumps have a long service life.

2.3 How does a sand pump work? (video)

The correct choice of pumping equipment for a well will determine its productivity, durability, and sometimes the operational life of the hydraulic structure itself.

MAIN TYPES OF PUMPS AND THEIR FEATURES

  • Vibrating– are more often used in wells, since as a result of vibrations they can not only lift sediment from the bottom, but also damage the walls of the wells
  • Centrifugal submersible– I have been convinced more than once that this is the best solution for wells. During operation, a minimum of vibration is generated, the productivity is quite high, as is the height of the water rise, and overheating is eliminated due to the design features of the engine
  • Drainage or self-priming– their use is relevant for shallow wells or as dryers for caissons

selection of pump and equipment for the well, criteria

  • Water rise height– these are the total values of the depth of the well (from the point of immersion of the pump to the surface of the earth) and the height of the highest point of water intake from ground level. The coefficient of horizontal water movement is also taken into account if the hydraulic structure is located at a sufficient distance from the house (20-30 meters)
  • Well type(for sand, artesian) and casing material - we have encountered in practice the damage that vibration pumps can cause to a PET pipe or downhole filter
  • Water consumption volumes and maximum total loads
  • Well flow rate
  • Water quality in the well and the presence of solid impurities in it

I advise you to rely on the experience and qualifications of professionals in this matter. We will select a suitable pump, offer it to you at a dealer price, and carry out professional installation.

Now I will answer the questions that our clients most often ask us.

Which pump is best for a well?

Based on personal experience, I can say that for wells, regardless of their depth, casing wall material and type of downhole filter, it is better to use centrifugal (vortex) submersible pumps.

Why?

During operation, they do not vibrate, so they do not lift sediment from the bottom, and most importantly, they are not capable of damaging the walls of the casing and the downhole filter. They are also highly efficient and, unlike vibration pumps, can run longer continuously.

Important!

How to choose a pump The basis of choice is the well’s productivity in relation to consumption volumes (peak and average).

What types of wells do we drill?

Advantages of centrifugal submersible pumps

Centrifugal pumps physically cannot overheat, since the water passes through the motor, which consists of a rotor and stator that rotates freely due to the force of electromagnetism. A flow of cold water moves between them, providing natural cooling.

If the water level from the surface is no more than 10-15 meters, you can use self-priming pump, but there are a number of difficulties here, including the need for additional maintenance and control.

Below I'll look at the performance of several centrifugal pumps compared to their vibrating counterparts to help you understand the difference in performance.

Common mistakes when choosing and installing a pump

So, what should you not do?

  • “The neighbors have one like this, so it will suit me too.”classic mistake. Two wells located 20-50 meters from each other can vary greatly in flow rate. In addition, it is important to take into account factors such as material, casing diameter, type of downhole filter, consumption volumes
  • “I’ll buy a more powerful one – in reserve”- another common misconception. First of all, why overpay? Secondly, a pump that is too productive can ruin a well with a low flow rate with burst pumping. We often had to repair a well, the quality of the water in which was lost precisely because of the wrong choice of pump
  • “I’ll do all the calculations myself.”- even many of my colleagues who have switched to free bread do not always make calculations with high accuracy - there are too many factors and coefficients to take into account. Better leave it to the professionals

Classic when installing pumping equipment yourself:

  • Wrong choice of installation depth
  • Incorrect fastening of the pump to the support cable, as a result of which part of the load falls on the power cord
  • Incorrect mains connection

IMPORTANT!

Self-installation - is it necessary? I strongly recommend not to spare one or two thousand rubles for the work of specialists who will make all the calculations and carry out the installation correctly.

Optimal pump installation depth between the bottom and the water surface for standard water intake

Here we completely turn off imagination - the installation depth of the pump is a constant value recommended by the equipment manufacturer. The nuances occur only for high-performance models with large installation depth. In this case, at least one meter of water column must remain to the bottom of the well.

At what depth should a submersible pump be installed to pump a well?

At the well pumping stage, we always pursue the same goal - to pump out sand and mud from the bottom. It is irrational to do this with a centrifugal pump, since they are very sensitive to the presence of solid fine impurities in the water.

Therefore, for pumping (if possible), a vibration pump with a lifting height of up to 80-110 meters is used.

They are not afraid of sand, and they can be installed almost at the very bottom in order to pump out unnecessary dirt from the well as much as possible.

If the well is pumped with a centrifugal pump, then there should be at least one meter left to its bottom, as required by the instructions for the equipment.

Dry running protection for well pump

Imagine this situation - you are not at home, the tap is leaking, and as a result, the pump pumped out all the water from the well and continued working.

The result is the replacement of expensive equipment, since the plastic impeller will not withstand high temperatures. If it has protection against dry running - relays, special floats and automation, then such incidents are excluded.

Cable conduit for well pump. extension of the cable of a submersible pump for a well

I can assure you that you will not find a pump that comes with an electrical cable of the same length as the lift height for which it is designed, because 120 meters of cable is a lot. The maximum that the manufacturer offers is 15-30 meters.

  • What should I do? Ramp up! I categorically do not recommend doing this on your own, but if you still decide, here are some of my professional tips:- yes, it is a little more expensive, yes - there will be no disaster if you take a regular one, but if for some reason damage occurs in a simple cable, the consequences can be serious. Water-submersible is designed for direct contact with water, it is better
  • The connection must be at maximum height from the water surface - do not cut the cable immediately before inserting it into the pump - cut the plug
  • Use special connectors and epoxy resin for hermetically sealing the connection or special heat-shrinkable sleeves
  • Use the correct cable size adjusted for resistance along length

In general, not everything is simple here, so I recommend leaving this work to specialists.

Pump and automation for sand well

Sand wells in the Moscow region are used primarily for irrigation purposes in garden plots.

The flow rate in such wells is usually low and inconsistent, and the quality of the water is low, since it contains a lot of sand.

The optimal solution is a submersible vibration pump. It is affordable and not picky about water quality.

Subtleties of installing a vibration pump
When installing the pump, it is important to fix it so that it does not touch the walls of the casing or bottom filter, otherwise vibrations can lead to mechanical damage to the equipment or the structure itself.

We automate a system based on a vibration pump

The simplest option for automatically turning off such a pump is a switch with a timer.

If you know the flow rate of the well, and it is, for example, 500 liters per hour, and your pump pumps this volume in half an hour, then simply set the timer for 20 minutes to take the required volume of water, and go about your business.

You can also use a float system.

Low-performance pump for a well with low flow rate

Wells with low flow rates pose a serious problem. I often come across the fact that people are looking for low-performance pumps as a solution, but you won’t find them, because even the lowest-power pump has a minimum performance of 450 liters per hour, and if the well’s flow rate is 250 liters, then this discrepancy is almost double.

What to do? I suggest the following solution:

  • We install a storage tank of 500-1000 liters in the basement or attic. If in the basement, then with a membrane to maintain pressure, if in the attic, then without
  • We connect automation to the tank to constantly keep it full
  • We install automation to protect against dry running in the well

What do we get as a result? Your country house is provided with water, since even with a very strong desire you will not make a volley discharge of 500 liters. The volume of water in the bathroom is 200 liters, one wash in an automatic machine is 60-80 liters, the toilet tank is 8-15 liters.

The pump operates in segments of 5-7 minutes, replenishing the tank if necessary or stopping operation if the water in the well goes below a certain level. Problem solved!

Is a vibration pump harmful to a well?

It is harmful, and I’ll tell you more, if installed incorrectly, it will destroy the well faster than you think. Vibrations are to blame. Sometimes the use of a centrifugal pump is irrelevant, and in these cases it is important to at least follow the installation rules:

  • Install the vibration pump at least 1.5 meters above the bottom of the well
  • The pump should not touch the walls of the casing - it should hang freely in the water column
  • I also recommend using models with an upper water intake - this way it will disturb the face less

Water hammer when the pump is turned on and a strong shock when turned off

Water hammer in a water supply system not only leads to failure of plumbing, but also of the pumping equipment itself. This phenomenon occurs when the pump is directly wedged into the system.

It’s easy to avoid this - for this I recommend using membrane hydraulic accumulators. They dampen sudden pressure surges in the system, extending the life of your expensive plumbing equipment.

Features of servicing pumping equipment

During my professional career, I have encountered this question many times. In fact, in case correct installation and operation, the submersible pump does not require additional maintenance. Some models require pre-lubrication individual elements immediately before installation - nothing more.

When using centrifugal submersible pumps to pump water with sand impurities, repairs may be required - replacement of blade discs. All this work should only be carried out by a professional - you can only do harm on your own.

Pump operating modeAlways follow the operating mode recommended by the manufacturer, do not overload the pump, then it will work properly throughout its entire service life.

It is impossible to imagine individual water supply for a private home without pumping equipment that delivers water to the consumer; for this purpose, several modifications of electric pumps with different operating principles are used. One of popular types is a screw pump for a well, mainly used for drawing water from sources whose water basins are located on sand.

Screw (screw) electric pumps, presented on the market as submersible models, are produced by many leading domestic and foreign manufacturers of pumping equipment; their cost does not exceed the average price range for this category of units. To choose the right electric pump, several classes with different principles of operation are considered, while a screw well pump, under certain conditions, has some advantages over other varieties.

Rice. 1 Popular models screw pumps

Pumps installed for pumping water, depending on their location relative to the water source, are divided into two groups: surface and submersible.

The first ones are installed on the ground next to the well; a pipe or pressure hose is lowered into the shaft for water intake, while the maximum suction depth (the location of the water mirror from the surface layer of soil) does not exceed 9 m. The overwhelming number of household water-suction outdoor units operate on the centrifugal principle and have average technical characteristics with a maximum volume of pumped liquid of 5 m 3 / h and a pressure of about 50 m, the efficiency of the devices is not more than 50%. Usually surface aggregates are included in the package of pumping stations, which are a single unit in which, in addition to the electric pump, a hydraulic accumulator and a pressure gauge are installed.

Submersible pumps are presented on the market in several varieties with different operating principles, depending on the design, cost and quality of well water; they are used in households for a variety of purposes.

Rice. 2 Operating principle and design of a centrifugal electric pump

Centrifugal

Centrifugal electric pumps occupy a leading position among other types due to the following design feature arising from their operating principle - the inlet water flow enters the axis of the impeller and is displaced by its blades through a pipe on the side of the housing. Thus, it became possible to connect any number of centrifugal wheels with chambers (stages) in series with increasing pressure at each stage.

The pressure in domestic versions reaches 200 m or more, the throughput capacity is up to 20 m 3 / h, the efficiency increases with increasing dimensions of the pump unit and reaches 65% for household high-quality models of Danish and Italian production.

High-quality centrifugal electric pumps from world-famous European concerns are equipped with internal protection against winding overheating in the absence of coolant, have a built-in check valve, expensive models are equipped with an electronic unit for controlling the shaft rotation speed depending on the volume of water consumption using pulse-width modulation. This solution allows you to reduce the size of pumping equipment, practically eliminating it, and also save energy, reducing its consumption by 40%.

Centrifugal pumps from the world's best manufacturers of pumping equipment are in high demand among consumers: Grundfos (Denmark), Pedrollo, Speroni (Italy), Wilo (Germany), Russian brands Belamos, Aquarius, Unipump (manufactured in China). It should be noted that the difference in prices between the products of leading foreign companies and products made in Russia or China is quite significant; a high-quality electric pump from Grundfos costs about 1000 USD, while a domestic or Chinese pump with similar characteristics can be purchased for 200 USD. e.

Rice. 3 Vibrating electric pump - device

Vibrating

The manufacturing technology of vibration electric pumps has not undergone significant changes since Soviet times, therefore there are many Russian brands on the market, there are products made in Ukraine and Belarus, and there are sufficient quantities of Chinese models.

The difference between vibration electric pumps and other types is the absence of rotating parts and, accordingly, bearings; the operating principle is based on the reciprocating movement of the coil armature when applied to its winding alternating current. A rod with a piston that draws in water is welded to the armature of the electromagnet; to prevent the outflow of liquid into the source, a check valve is installed near the inlet holes.

Vibration models have a rather low efficiency of about 35%, the maximum volume of pumped liquid does not exceed 1.5 m 3 / h, and the pressure does not exceed 80 m.

These characteristics are considered not too high to provide water to a private house with even one person living in it, so vibrating pumps are mainly used for economic purposes: for irrigating garden beds, filling swimming pools, ponds, various types of containers with water, and carrying out drainage work.

Since vibration types are not too sensitive to the high content of suspended particles in water, they are often used for pumping wells and wells, extracting from them turbid water with clay-sand fractions.

Vibration pumps are classified as products in the budget price category, their minimum cost is about 20 USD, the average price of a typical high-quality unit is 30 USD. Vibration pumps on the market are represented by a large number of domestic (Rucheek, Malysh, Dachnik, Aquarius, Vikhr, Zubr) and Chinese (Oasis, Patriot) brands.

Rice. 4 Vortex pump - design

Vortex

In vortex varieties, water is sucked through the side opening of the hydraulic part of the housing by the blades of the impeller and then thrown out through a discharge pipe located next to the suction channel.

A feature of vortex pumps is the small distance between the vane wheel impeller and the walls of the working chamber, which is necessary to reduce hydraulic losses, so the units operate only in clean water. The highest pumping volume of household electric pumps of the vortex operating principle does not exceed 5 m 3 / h, the pressure reaches 100 meters, the efficiency is no more than 50%.

In vortex models for household use the feed wheel is located at the top near the outlet pipe, and the electric motor with a vertical shaft on which the vortex wheel is mounted is installed at the bottom.

Liquid suction occurs through a perforated filter located around the impeller - by its location in the upper part near the outlet pipe, it is easy to determine the vortex principle of operation of the electric pump.

On the market, vortex pumps are less common than centrifugal models, domestic producers represented by the brands Belamos, Whirlwind, Unipump, Italian is popular deep well pump Pedrollo Davis.

Rice. 5 Screw pump – internal organization and screw unit

Screw (screw)

Electric pumps that suck in and push out water using the Archimedes screw method are called screw pumps; this is the second most popular group after centrifugal pumps. In household appliances, the screw is located in the upper part and is connected through an adapter coupling to the electric motor shaft.

The advantage of screw electric pumps is their simplicity of design and the ability to efficient work with cloudy and dirty water, as well as with viscous media, thanks to the latter feature, screw modifications are widely used in industry for pumping oils and petroleum products.

Screw electric pumps from world trade leaders (Grundfos, Wilo, DAB, Pedrollo, Speroni) are not on sale; the units are represented by well-known Russian brands Belamos, Jemix, Vikhr, Unipump Eco Vint, Aquarius, and the Sturm group of companies.

On sale you can find screw electric pumps and less popular brands of Russian and Chinese production: Khozyain, Alba, Oasis, Patriot, Vodotok, as well as Sprut from the Ukrainian company Varna from Kharkov.

On a note: Distinctive feature vortex electric pumps of domestic production - perforated rectangular holes in the upper third of the body through which water is drawn.

Rice. 6 Principle of operation of a screw pump

Operating principle and design of a screw pump

In a standard screw household electric pump, the working screw is made in the form of a spiral pin made of corrosion-resistant material, which is chrome-plated steel, stainless steel or high-strength plastic. The liquid sucked in by the rotating screw enters a technical polymer holder and is then pushed out into the upper outlet of the electric pump.

The screw electric pump used in everyday life consists of the following main components (Fig. 7):

1 — Electrical part with a vertically mounted single-phase electric motor with a dry rotor and an oil-filled chamber separating the engine compartment from the hydraulic part; a starting capacitor is located inside the lower part of the housing.

2 — The hydraulic part consists of a housing, a water intake filter and a working auger rotating in a cage made of elastic polymer (rubber) - an assembly of a screw and a rubber coupling pushes the liquid entering the housing through perforated holes 3 to the outlet pipe.

3 — The water intake part is a stainless steel cylinder with holes made in the side walls to draw in water.

4 — On the top cover of the pump, made of brass or stainless steel, there is an outlet pipe and lugs.

5 — The outlet pipe is made with internal thread standard diameter 1 inch, a check valve and a water-lifting hose are attached to it.

6 – A nylon or metal cable in synthetic protective insulation is tied to the eyes.

Rice. 7 Design of a screw pump

Distinctive features and parameters of screw electric pumps

A typical screw pump for wells used in individual water supply has the following technical parameters:

  • Power supply voltage: AC 220V ± 10%, frequency 50 Hz.

Rice. 8 Main characteristics of Chinese Oasis

The main advantages of screw electric pumps:

  • Low cost, the price of the cheapest models is about 80 USD, in general all models are cheaper than centrifugal types.
  • Simplicity of design. The working part consists of a screw and a rubber cage; they are easy to maintain and, if necessary, simply replaced, which makes repairing screw units very simple.
  • Due to its operating principle, a screw pump for a well can transport liquid with large fractions of sand and clay deposits - this is its main advantage. A submersible screw pump is preferable to use for water intake from well sources on sand, which often have a high content of suspended particles of clay and sand. Although their parts are subject to mechanical stress from solid particles, the service life of a screw pump in turbid sources will be longer than that of centrifugal models.

The disadvantages of screw units include the mediocre quality of many products (chrome-plated screw, quickly abraded holder) and not very high technical characteristics, noticeably inferior to centrifugal types, as well as low efficiency, not exceeding 45%.

Application area

We can say that a screw pump for a well, due to its ability to pump out dirty water, is a leader in the number of areas in which it is used in household management. A screw well pump is purchased for:

  • arrangement of water supply for cottages and wells;
  • filling artificial ponds, swimming pools, tanks for heating and drip irrigation;
  • irrigation of vegetable gardens, orchards and any areas with plants on a personal plot;
  • carrying out drainage in case of flooding of basements, cellars and basement rooms in the house;
  • pumping wells after drilling operations, some professional companies specifically purchase screw pumps for this purpose;
  • cleaning wells and wells from silt deposits.

Well installation rules

To immerse an electric screw pump into a well, use either an adapter, to which a cable is tied and a water supply pipeline coming from the unit is attached. Usually, before diving, the pressure hose, power supply cable and holding cable are tied together with insulating tape or plastic ties, and the following rules are observed during installation:

  • Water-lifting pipes can be selected from low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), steel or flexible elastic polymers, the main condition is the ability to withstand the maximum pressure in the system and the internal bore diameter is not lower than the thread size inside the outlet pipe.
  • When using a flexible hose, make sure there are no kinks or twists.
  • For lowering and lifting, use only a nylon or metal (stainless) cable; it is forbidden to hang the unit by the electrical cable.
  • Before diving, you should make sure that the internal diameter of the casing is higher than the external dimensions of the pump housing together with the electrical cable, and that the pipes do not have any bends or narrowed areas.
  • It is not recommended to place the power cable in a coiled coil - this leads to overheating and melting of the insulation.
  • The minimum distance of the pump from the bottom of the well is 0.5 meters, the optimal is 1 m.
  • It is prohibited to operate the pump with a closed tap - this will lead to its failure.
  • Installation in the control system is mandatory even if there is internal automatic protection against winding overheating.
  • When installing modifications that do not have a built-in check valve, it is installed on the outlet pipe in front of the water-lifting pipeline.

Rice. 10 Scheme of installation and connection of the screw unit

When comparing which well pump is better: centrifugal or screw, there is no clear answer, since the scope of application of these pumping units is slightly different. Screw electric pumps are usually used in situations where it is necessary to work with contaminated water, and due to their relatively low technical characteristics, the well should have a shallow depth or be located closer to an individual house. It is impossible to find European-made screw pumps on the domestic market; all products are supplied to the retail chain by domestic and Chinese companies, so user reviews regarding the quality and materials of manufacture of screw units are contradictory.

Boreholes are increasingly replacing wells as water sources. To extract water from them, you need special submersible pumps, the range of which is wide on the market. To quickly understand the models, namely their characteristics, and then decide which unit to purchase, study our rating.

Negative consequences of well contamination during operation

In the vast majority of cases, not only after drilling, but also during operation or after a long period of downtime, pumping of the well is most often necessary for sandy species. The bottom of their aquifer usually consists of sand, clay or pebbles; siltation leads to the following negative consequences:

The depth of the water intake source decreases

This can have negative consequences for submersible electric pumps located at a short distance from the bottom - filters and components of the water supply working mechanism will begin to become clogged with dirt, which will lead to accelerated failure of the pumping equipment.

Water quality is deteriorating

In addition to the fact that the silted bottom approaches the units that absorb water, the rising water, passing through the silted layer, carries with it small particles of dirt, which contribute to cloudiness of the liquid. The water becomes unsuitable for drinking and domestic use, and cleaning it with filters becomes too expensive.

Flow rate is falling

The water pressure is hampered by a layer of dirt formed during the siltation process, which resists its passage. There may simply not be enough water for household needs if the pump pumps out all the water from the well.

Water level drops

A drop in static and dynamic levels is a consequence of a change in flow rate and can lead to dry running of operating electric pumps.

These negative consequences do not appear immediately and serve as signs indicating the need to pump the well source.

Requirements for electric pumps for bleeding

Not every electric pump pumps out contaminated water, for example, the answer to the question - “is it possible to clean a well with vortex types?” will be negative. Vortex models Due to design features (small gaps between the vortex wheel impeller and the walls of the working chamber) they are absolutely not designed for working with contaminated water. When choosing suitable pumping equipment, you must be guided by the following criteria:

Well compliance

The pump for pumping the well must be suitable for its parameters, primarily this is due to its pressure and immersion depth.

Compliance with water quality

The contaminated bottom of well sources can consist of various fractions: sand, clay or pebbles. The type of pumping device must be suitable for the structure of the contaminants, otherwise its operation in an unsuitable environment will be ineffective and lead to failure.

Low cost

It is irrational to spend large amounts of money at home to purchase an expensive electric pump - when working in a polluted environment, the mechanism of any device wears out faster, and replacing parts in expensive equipment, in addition to its high cost, will lead to even greater expenses.

This statement does not apply to organizations involved in pumping wells professional level. For example, expensive high-quality Gundfos submersible electric pumps, due to their high reliability after many years of operation, are more profitable to pump wells than domestic models.

High performance

This parameter affects the time of pumping out contaminated water, which in some cases can take more than a day, and the efficiency of cleaning. More powerful models suck up liquid from greater depths, accordingly picking up more contaminants than low-power devices.

Main types of electric pumps for well cleaning

Due to their design features, several types of electric pumps that are most often used in everyday life can work effectively with contaminated water.

Vibrating

Using vibration types for pumping dirty water has the following advantages and disadvantages:

Low cost. All vibration models belong to products in the budget price category; the minimum cost of an Aquarius pump is about 20 USD.

Simplicity of design. Allows you to independently repair or replace worn parts without much effort and special equipment.

Working with dirty water. Vibrating electric pumps are best suited for pumping clay contaminants, sand and small pebbles their rubber parts quickly wear out.

Principle of operation. The use of vibration pumps has a negative impact on casing pipes, causing their deformation, and can also lead to complete silting of the well source due to compaction of the sedimentary layer during vibration.

Low productivity and continuous operation time. These are the main disadvantages of vibration pumps, which preclude their use for constant water supply.

Screw (screw) submersible electric pumps

Screw electric pumps have the following distinctive features:

High price. The cheapest Unipump ECO VINT1 models cost 4 times more than vibration models - about 80 USD.

Working with contaminated liquids. The devices work well with very viscous clay contaminants; sand and small stones wear out the screw.

Simplicity of design. Single-screw household screw pumps have a simple device that allows you to carry out independent cleaning, repair and replacement of parts without special skills.

Centrifugal pumps

Centrifugal types are the most common; both surface and submersible types are used to collect pumped water from wells, which have the following features:

High price. Centrifugal electric pumps are quite expensive; the price of the cheapest Vikhr models is 70 USD.

Operating environment type. Special submersible centrifugal electric pumps are designed to work with small solid particles - this allows you to pump out water and sand with their help.

Performance. Centrifugal electric pumps have high efficiency and pumping volume, and can lift water to the highest height of all types.

For efficient pumping of wells, centrifugal electric pumps are most often used, designed to work with large particle sizes. Vibrating types are best used as auxiliary equipment for supplying water under pressure to the bottom of the well, causing the mud to rise and mix.

How does a sand well work?

Sand wells are the most common sources because they are located in the first formation. This design requires careful pump selection. The resulting water will initially be heavily contaminated with sand, so not every unit will be able to pump it effectively. This will create additional load on the pump, so a sand source requires the use of special powerful equipment.

The aquifer is represented by sand deposits. The porosity of the material is large, therefore the mobility of each grain of sand is also great. Sandy water flow creates additional stress on the pump. The device cannot pump dirty water for a long time, so it quickly burns out. It cannot be repaired. What to do in such a situation? The reason for the rapid failure of equipment is a poor-quality pump.

Experts in the field of water supply have developed a methodology additional protection water and equipment from sand. When arranging a hydraulic structure, a natural filter made of fine crushed stone or pebbles is used. This good way braking any erosion or movement of sand throughout the well. For greater efficiency, it is mounted on the end of the casing pipe mesh view filter.

Description of the unit

The sand pump is a single-stage and centrifugal equipment. The main task of this design is pumping abrasive hydraulic mixtures and water with various impurities. But for effective pumping, the liquid must have certain properties.

The pumped solution must have:

  • a certain temperature (+5...60°C);
  • density up to 1300 kg/m³;
  • content of solid inclusions (up to 25%);
  • maximum microhardness up to 9,000 MPa.
