  • The next step in how to make a pear chair is to create a pattern. Its model depends on your imagination. For example, the bottom of a chair can be either round or of another intricate shape.
  • We transfer the pattern to the fabric.
  • We cut out the details of the chair, leaving one and a half centimeters for allowances.
  • We sew the inner bag, alternately connecting the wedges, insert the zipper into the last seam. After that we sew the bottom. Create the outer bag in the same way.
  • Filling the inner poly bag

    Pouffe Pattern - Click to Enlarge

    Step 1. Cut out a pattern on paper for our pouffe

    It is enough to cut out on paper one wedge-shaped part and one “bottom” part ( round shape). But in order to save fabric, the “bottom” is divided into 4 parts. And you can see in figure 2 how to place all the details on a piece of fabric 1.4 meters by 2.5 meters.

    Step 2. We transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut out the details of the pouf-pear

    Carefully lay out the details of the pouffe pattern on the fabric. Circle with chalk. Do not forget about fabric allowances from the edges of the parts - about 1-1.5 cm.

    The inner case will have the same dimensions as the outer case.

    Step 3. Sew the details of the outer and outer cover of the pouf-pear

    We sew the cut parts from the fabric one by one together. First, two wedge-shaped segments, then sew on all the rest. Don't forget to leave room for the zipper.

    The inner case has the same dimensions as the outer case, so we follow the same procedure. The zipper for the inner case will be redundant, but you need to leave a hole for filling with balls.

    Step 4. Fill the inner case with balls.

    It's easier to make a funnel-shaped device out of paper and pour the balls into the case. After that, either sew the hole, or close the zipper.

    As a matter of fact, our puff puff practically ready. We put on an external beautiful cover, close the zipper on it and try to sit down.

    And here you can see how it is sewn.

    The benefits of tailoring

    The ottoman chair is a light and soft frameless furniture that can be made independently, for example, as a gift.

    Pursuing self-manufacturing easy chair you need to take care of the inner cover for the filler, thanks to which the chair will last much longer.

    Being engaged in the manufacture of bean bags with your own hands, you can come up with the most exclusive models.

    Prices for ottoman chairs are greatly exaggerated by sellers in the furniture market, which is associated with competition and material savings by manufacturers who think how to make an ottoman of one design or another cheaper. Some chairs, having a base diameter of 70 cm and a height of about 1 m, may cost more than chairs of the largest sizes.

    The structure of an easy chair (pouffe): 1. Outer cover. 2. Inner cover made of durable fabric. 3. Filler: expanded polystyrene.

    In order not to overpay for bean bags, it is better to learn how to make them yourself. In this case, you can take such dimensions of the parts of the chair that will be needed. It makes no sense to count on a large purchased chair at a low price.

    The quality of an armchair is determined by its softness and smooth shapes, so it is typical for many manufacturers to save on the manufacture of an inner cover for the filler, which creates problems for the operation of ottomans. If you plan to buy a chair, you should definitely check the presence of an internal cover.

    The zipper of the bag chair must be of sufficient length. This will allow you to easily remove the inner cover and put on the outer one after washing. A short zipper can be damaged, then you just have to vacuum the ottoman or wipe it.

    Since furniture filled with polystyrene shrinks, an additional supply of polystyrene will be required to replenish the inner cover. To transport the chair, you will definitely need a special package with a handle.

    Model shape

    In practice, it is bean bags of large sizes that make it possible to most conveniently accommodate them for relaxation, hence the name of the ottoman bag - Bean Bag (bean bag). In the process of tailoring a bag chair, it is better not to save on sizes, because otherwise you cannot feel all the charm of a convenient and comfortable ottoman.

    The variety of shapes that can be used in the manufacture of the Bean Bag chair differs in its abundance. For people of any age, you can choose chairs of individual sizes and shapes. The streamlined shapes of bean bags can turn them into a real throne for vacationers.

    If the chair is being sewn for the first time, then it is best to take a universal pattern in the form that is used most often. This is the only way to get a practical and comfortable chair with a base and a top. Wherein different armchairs may vary in the width of the back or seat.

    There is no need to figure it out, turning the ottoman chair exactly the way you want to sit on. Repeating every curve of the body sitting on the chair, it seems to acquire a headrest with armrests, allowing you to quickly relax and unwind.

    Material selection

    For the manufacture of bean bags, fabrics are used that have different colors and textures. The fabric for the ottoman must be of high quality, which is guaranteed modern technologies production of durable and wear-resistant materials.

    When sewing a bean bag chair, the time of year is also taken into account. AT summer season it is best to take a natural fabric for the top cover, that is, linen or cotton. If the period is autumn or spring, the use of velvet or corduroy will be ideal. For winter period suitable fur cover. Having sewn one bean bag made of dense fabric, you can change its covers every season, making the interior of the room cozier and more comfortable.

    For the manufacture of an easy chair that will be used in the cold season, it is best to use velveteen.

    For the manufacture of frameless furniture, dense fabric, genuine leather, leatherette or denim are usually used. If there is a need and desire, then the fabrics can be combined with each other. In any case, it will be right if the color and texture of the fabric are in harmony with the interior of the room.

    The general requirements for the material for an ottoman come down to ease of maintenance, versatility, quality of the material for the inner cover and filler. For the chair, it is necessary to make two bags: inner and outer.

    For sewing an ottoman, a durable fabric measuring 3.5 × 1.5 m is suitable. To let the air out of the ottoman, it is best to choose very durable material, which has a blown air texture, while the ottoman will turn out softer.

    The chair should satisfy the idea of a bag that has no shape and is able to take it under the influence of the load of the body of the person resting in it. Lightweight, strong synthetic interlining fabric that can give the ottoman extra softness.

    To make a cover, you need to take 3.5 × 1.5 m, that is, as much base material as the fabric for the inner bag. The material should be a durable and breathable fabric. Special attention when choosing a fabric, you should pay attention to its aesthetic qualities.

    The material for the cover must be selected based on its physical properties, including strength, wear resistance, susceptibility to pollution. The material may be water-repellent, so its coating will not prevent dirt from accumulating between the fibers of the material. If the fabric is not breathable, you will need drainage holes in the bag.

    Tools for work

    The simplicity of the technology for performing work on sewing an ottoman chair allows you to make it yourself without any special difficulties. At the same time, it becomes possible to make your own choice of bag design elements, such as:

    1. The form.
    2. Style.
    3. Textile.
    4. Threads.
    5. Picture.
    6. Dimensions.

    The ottoman chair is sewn according to the principle of making a pillow and pillowcase for it. For the inner cover, necessary for filling it with polystyrene granules, natural blended fabrics of sufficient density and lightness are best suited. This fabric may be a polyester water-repellent material.

    For the top case, it is best to choose a rubberized material. This will help protect the inner filler from moisture that may get inside the bag during use or cleaning. This type of fabric can simply be wiped occasionally with a damp cloth.

    For work, you will need not only fabric, but also reinforced threads with high strength. The amount of required polystyrene foam filler is taken depending on the dimensions of the ottoman chair. Any materials for making can be purchased at sewing stores. Expanded polystyrene is purchased separately.

    It is better to purchase polystyrene foam with a margin, since it may be crushed during the operation of the ottoman, which will reduce the shape of the filler bag. If there is a supply, then you can always fill the bag as tightly as necessary.

    The implementation of the filler is carried out by suppliers of materials for thermal insulation. When choosing a filler taking into account the size of its balls, it should be borne in mind that the distribution of large balls inside the bag will be uneven, and small granules can make the ottoman heavier. When buying polystyrene, you should ask in a timely manner whether there is a certificate of conformity for it.

    It will be easier to make an ottoman chair yourself if you prepare the following tools and materials in advance:

    Sewing kit: tape measure, scissors, needle threads, etc.

    1. Ruler.
    2. Needles.
    3. Compass.
    4. Fabric or pattern paper.
    5. Threads.
    6. Pencil.
    7. Fabric for the bag and cover.
    8. Zipper (about 30 cm) - 2 pcs.
    9. Scissors.
    10. Sewing machine.
    11. Expanded polystyrene in granules for filling the bag (200-300 l).

    When all the tools and materials are collected, a do-it-yourself ottoman pattern is prepared, which must be made in accordance with the following patterns:

    1. Side parts - 4 pcs.
    2. Circles - 2 pcs.
    3. Pen rectangle.

    The easiest way to make a pen is this: cut a rectangle out of the prepared fabric, the length of which is 2-3 cm longer than the diameter of the circumference of the circle, and the width is 3 cm. All parts of the template should be drawn on a sheet of thick paper or fabric that is no longer useful.

    Stages of work

    After that, it is necessary to lay out the prepared material for the bag on the surface of the floor or table. The material is taken in two types, the length of each of them should be 2-4 m. Most of all, white cotton fabric is suitable for the inner cover of the ottoman, and for the outer cover, you can take material of any color. The type of material for the outer cover with a zipper may depend on the taste of the future owner of the ottoman.

    First lay out the fabric to circle the templates. They are prepared in order to make a bag with their own hands, the pattern of which must be cut out with scissors along the contour. All the details of the pattern are needed in two copies in order to use them for sewing a bag, therefore, before cutting, the fabric must always be folded in half, and the outline of the template should be done on the wrong side of the material.

    Then you need to lay out the patterns on the fabric. One of them is made directly for the bag, which must be filled with polystyrene. The second is prepared for the cover, put on the bag and fastened with a zipper. The pattern is usually fixed to the fabric with needle-pins with balls.

    The pattern should not take long if you have the appropriate experience. Before you start cutting out the pattern, it is necessary to mark the seam allowances of 1.5 cm. When sewing, all seam allowances are also taken into account, the machine line is laid along the basting.

    Every two parts from the same fabric are superimposed on each other to be secured with a preliminary seam made by hand. Then the junctions are processed on sewing machine along each side edge of the part, and the basting is removed. Since the inner bag is being made, there is no need to process its edges.

    At the same time, to process the cuts of the ottoman cover, you can use an overlock or process the cuts by setting the sewing machine to the zigzag stitch. It must be remembered that the processed sections make the product more durable.

    It is necessary to sew a zipper on the inner cover from the inside, taking into account the fold. On the outer cover, the zipper is sewn a little further from the fold and also from the inside. After filling the first cover with filler, you can close the zipper on it. The second cover, worn on the outside of the bag, is fastened with a zipper of sufficient length.

    After sewing a bag of plain white fabric, it is filled with polystyrene balls, making sure that they do not scatter in different directions, as they are very airy. For this purpose, it is convenient to use a funnel made of paper. Before filling the bag with polystyrene, children and animals must be removed from the room. When the bag filling procedure is completed, the room should be thoroughly vacuumed, as Styrofoam balls entering the nose can cause injury.

    A bag filled with polystyrene, with your own hands, should be securely sewn up from the outside, unless a zipper is provided where there is an opening for filling the bag. The hole is left free in advance when all 6 parts of the bag are stitched.

    The hole through which the filler was poured, after filling the bag, should be sewn up first by hand, and then on a sewing machine. It is not necessary to make a very neat stitching, as the bag will still be closed by the cover when using it.

    Before using the ottoman, remember that it is easy to store and clean. The top cover is easy to remove and wash. First of all, you need to choose free place in a room for storing or using an ottoman, since the bean bag is furniture.

    If the top case is made of leather, then the bottom one is a must. In its absence, polystyrene granules will stand out on outside skin, spoiling appearance chair when it is under load.

    Sometimes you really want to update the interior, give it new style, and additional pieces of furniture will be the most suitable helpers in this matter. And if it’s easier to buy a wardrobe or a sofa in a store, then making an ottoman with your own hands is very simple.

    Ottomans came to us from the East many centuries ago, and immediately gained popularity. In the recent past, they occupied an important place in urban apartments with small footage, since they simultaneously served as a table, an armchair, and a footstool.

    Homemade ottomans have a lot of advantages compared to store-bought ones. You can choose the appropriate shape, size, color and type of material. In addition, in the manufacture of such an ottoman, you can use any means at hand, and such a piece of furniture will cost you almost free.

    Soft ottomans: simple and easy from what is at hand

    Taking up the manufacture of an ottoman, tune in to the fact that with such a simple and light work you can do it without any worries, and we will help you practical advice and advice. You will need:

    • Sewing machine;
    • Textile;
    • stuffing material;
    • Paper to apply the pattern.

    First, prepare a pattern using the diagram below. Lines B and C on it indicate the places where the paper is folded. It also shows how the template will look in expanded form.

      1. Take the unfolded template and attach it to the fabric. You will need to cut 8 identical pieces of fabric. Not to spend money on new material, use old clothes.
      2. On each blank, bend an acute corner inward by 5-6 cm and sew so that after assembling the pouffe, an octagonal hole remains in the upper part, into which the stuffing will be placed.
      3. Stitch the blanks from the inside in pairs to each other (during cutting, do not forget to leave a seam allowance of 1 cm over the size of the pattern). Thus, you will get 4 parts from 2 blanks stitched together on one side.
      4. Sew 2 pieces in the same way: these will be the two halves of your pouffe. Sew them together and turn the cover inside out.
      5. Stuff the finished pouf cover with the selected material (it can even be scraps of fabric). Cut another piece to fit the remaining hole, finish the edges and sew by hand.

    Tip: It is not necessary to use fabric of the same color for the ottoman. Multicolored ottoman enliven the interior, especially in a children's or teenage room.

    Such an ottoman is very soft and light, small children will be happy to play with it, and you don't have to worry about their safety.

    An even simpler scheme for making an ottoman

    There is not always time and desire to mess around with patterns, so we offer you another, very simple option.

    1. Cut out 2 circles from the fabric. Their diameter should be equal to the diameter of the top and bottom of the product. Don't forget to leave seam allowances!
    2. Now cut out 2 rectangular pieces of the same size. Their width will be the height of the pouffe, and their length will be half the circumference of the upper and lower parts.
    3. Sew the rectangular parts together across the width on one side to make a long ribbon. Baste one of the circles to it and stitch along the seam. Do the same with the second round. If the seam is not even or neat enough, you can sheathe it with a decorative border.

    Thus, you can quickly and easily make a pouf cover that is easy to fill with any suitable material. It remains only to sew a zipper into the unstitched edges of a rectangular tape.

    In the same way, you can make a cube-shaped pouffe. The only difference is that the details must be square shape, and for the sides you will need four pieces of fabric, not two. Sew the details together, and in order to more clearly indicate the edges of the cube, use a canvas in a contrasting color. A denser fabric will give extra elasticity and help keep the shape.

    Please note: a synthetic winterizer and foam rubber are perfect for stuffing such a pouffe. These materials do not deform and keep their shape perfectly.

    Make a hole through which you will place the stuffing material from the bottom of the pouffe so that it is invisible. Optionally, you can stitch it tightly after the pouffe is stuffed, or sew in a zipper to be able to change the material if necessary.

    We use improvised means: an ottoman made of plastic bottles

    This option will allow you to significantly save on stuffing materials. filling inner space The ottoman is provided with plastic bottles. So, you will need to stock up on the following:

    • Plastic bottles of the same shape and volume;
    • Thick cardboard (use cardboard boxes, just make sure that they are not damaged);
    • or synthetic winterizer (you can also use insulation or several layers of dense fabric);
    • Scotch;
    • Glue;
    • Scissors.

    Cut out two identical circles of the diameter you need from cardboard - these will be the top and bottom of the ottoman. Set the bottles on the bottom circle so that they fill the entire space and tie them tightly with tape. Cover with the top circle and rewind with tape so that all the parts are evenly and firmly connected to each other.

    The base is ready, now we start finishing the ottoman.

    1. From the insulation (foam rubber, synthetic winterizer), cut out two circles and a rectangle. Details should be slightly larger than the base elements, taking into account seam allowances. Connect them together and sew by hand with tight stitches.
    2. Sew a cover for your ottoman according to the same principle as in the second paragraph of this article.
    3. You can add to finished product additional functional element in the form of a strap. It will make it easier to carry and will surely appeal to children who will be happy to carry such an ottoman with them as a toy.
    4. If you plan to make an ottoman that you will use yourself, take a denser fabric for the cover and insert a border along the seams. For a baby ottoman you will need soft material with variegated colors. It is advisable to use a denser layer of foam rubber.

    This ottoman is not only easy to perform. By making it yourself, you will save yourself from the need to dispose of plastic bottles, and this is a great opportunity to participate in the fight for a clean environment!

    A new look at old things: we make furniture from clothes

    This is not a fairy tale or fantasy, an old sweater can really turn into original ottoman, not only very comfortable, but also a noticeable element of the interior. Making such a piece of furniture is very simple, because the main condition is an original, bright, beautiful or funny pattern on a sweater that you will use in your work.

    So, you will need:

    • A sweater that you will no longer wear, but it is a pity to throw it away;
    • Scissors;
    • Threads and a needle;
    • Felt;
    • Fabric for the cover (lining material is perfect);
    • Styrofoam for stuffing.

    From the felt, cut the bottom of the ottoman into a round or square shape. This part will serve as the primary blank. Take the sweater and turn the sleeves inside out, sew the remaining holes with an even seam. Sew the felt blank to the bottom of the sweater to make a bag-case.

    Tip: Using plain sweaters with large ribbed knits, such as rhombuses or braids, you will get an amazing classic-vintage ottoman that will look great in any interior. Such knitted patterns are suitable for square and rectangular shapes.

    Now you need to prepare a cover made of lining dense fabric for expanded polystyrene. If your primary felt is round, then you will need one piece of fabric of the required size (for example, 50 cm wide and 70 cm long), but if you decide to do square ottoman, then calculate required dimensions for four pieces.

    Sew all the pieces together, and leave a hem at the top for the lace, which will tighten the lace after you fill it with stuffing. The cover should be filled after you place it inside the sweater. Tighten the lace as tight as possible so that the filler does not wake up, straighten the sweater and enjoy your new piece of furniture!

    Non-standard solutions in the manufacture of ottomans

    Soft ottomans can be of any shape, even spherical. It will be just a great option for, which will become one of your child's favorite toys.

    An ottoman ball is easy enough to make yourself, for this you will need:

    • Sewing machine;
    • Threads;
    • Needle;
    • Scissors;
    • Fabric with high density, two colors;
    • Graph paper for pattern making;
    • Polyethylene;
    • Silicone filler in the form of balls.

    The process of creating an ottoman ball consists of the following steps:

      1. First of all, you need to make a pattern on graph paper, observing the required dimensions. To make it easier, use a round object, such as a large balloon or floor lamp shade. Measure its circumference, and divide the resulting size in half. Divide this number into 5 parts so that 3 middle and 2 extreme are the same size. You will get the diameter of the base in the form of a circle and the width of the stripes that make up the spherical cover of the ottoman.
      2. Transfer the resulting markup to the item you have chosen, starting with the circle part. Draw the next line down the pre-calculated bandwidth.
      3. Take it, cut it along one side and cut off the bottom. Straighten and lay on the marks of the first strip, secure the edges with tape. Transfer a quarter of the strip to polyethylene and cut it out. In the same way, prepare the part of the middle strip. Transfer the pieces to graph paper before cutting.
      4. Now the details of the ottoman need to be cut out of fabric in two colors, leaving 1 cm for a seam allowance. Sew them into strips, leaving one side open, and iron them out.
      5. Attach the first strip to the round piece. The ends of the strip must exactly converge with each other. Stitch them and connect the round base with the strip with a seam, stepping back 1 cm from the edge.
      6. Sew a similar blank for the opposite side of the cover and stitch to the middle strip. At the same time, do not overfill the ends of the middle strip. In the same way, grind the second semicircular blank with middle lane and iron the seams.

    The cover for the ottoman-ball is ready, you just have to fill it with filler. To make the shape elastic, add pieces inside small size. Close the hole with a hidden seam.

    We complicate the task: a wooden ottoman with a box for all sorts of little things

    If you have skills in working as a carpenter, then you can easily make a fairly simple, but very beautiful and functional ottoman with a wooden drawer on wheels. In such an ottoman you can put toys, magazines, shoes or clothes. For it you will need:

    • laminated board or chipboard sheet for the manufacture of a circle with a diameter of 30 cm and 4 rectangles 40 X 33 cm;
    • 4 wooden beams with dimensions 4 x 8 x 8 cm;
    • PVA glue;
    • furniture wheels - 4 pcs;
    • metal corners - 4 pcs;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • screwdriver (screwdriver, drill);
    • foam rubber for stuffing;
    • fabric for the design of the cover;
    • sewing machine.

    Take prepared by size chipboard and connect them to make a box 40 x 40 cm wide and 30 cm high. Additional glue the joints.

    Place on the bottom corners of the box. Fix them with self-tapping screws, smearing with glue for more reliable fastening. Attach furniture wheels to these bars. Install the cover with glue and screws.

    The frame of the ottoman is ready, now you need to sew the cover. Take a special furniture fabric, it wears out less. According to the shape of the lid, open the top of the cape, and sew a strip of fabric 10 cm along the contour. Here you can also sew ruffles, drapery, canvas to your liking.

    Lay a layer of foam rubber on the cover of the ottoman to ensure softness. Pull the cover over the top. For its implementation, you can use any fabrics and decorative elements.

    Armchair manufacturing (MK)

    How to sew a bean bag with your own hands without mistakes? Understand product design. It includes two elements - outer and inner covers. Styrofoam balls or polystyrene are poured into the inner case. As a material, ordinary calico or lining material is used. The filling bag should have a small zipper. This will allow you to replace the balls when the previous ones collapse from frequent use.

    A zipper and a small handle are attached to the outer cover so that it is convenient to carry the chair around the house. When creating a bean bag chair with your own hands according to the master class, keep in mind that you need to choose a material that is dense and resistant to wear. Among them, you can choose raincoat fabric, leather substitute, jeans or curtain fabric.

    The following materials are used for work:

    • filler in the amount of 300 l;
    • textiles for the inner cover in the amount of 3 m;
    • two zippers, the length of which is 40 and 100 cm;
    • material for the outer cover is about 3 m.

    Before you make a bean bag chair with your own hands, the patterns are transferred to graph paper. You can do without this if you can make a pattern on the fabric with soap.

    Filler

    Styrofoam balls or expanded polystyrene granules are usually used. This is the simplest and most hygienic material. Balls do not absorb sweat, odors and dirt. This is ideal if you plan to use frameless furniture in the dining room, in the kitchen, in the showroom or cafe. As for expanded polystyrene, insects do not start in it and it is non-hygroscopic. An ottoman made of this material is easy to sew and is the most affordable.

    Are you thinking how to sew a pear chair using natural materials? When choosing an organic filler, furniture can be used in a room with low humidity. Otherwise, the bags after stitching will begin to mold. You can use the following natural fillers:

    • horsehair;
    • wood shavings;
    • down, feathers or wool;
    • millet, rice or peas;
    • seeds, buckwheat husks or grass.

    If you plan to sew a bean bag chair according to a sawdust pattern, consider their quality. Filling the pear with your own hands, inspect the chips. Stages of work

    suitable model frameless chair can be found in numerous photographs. Then use the easiest stitching method available. If you have the materials, you can quickly get the job done. The following step-by-step instruction applies:

    1. Pattern. Before you start creating a frameless chair with your own hands, make a pattern. Find suitable option, transfer it to the fabric with maximum precision. Do not forget to outline the allowances that will be needed for the seams. Carry your bean bag chair pattern, saving space. This will use less fabric. At least 1.5 cm will go to the seams so that they do not bloom due to the strong tension of the material. For each cover you will need 6 wedges. One hexagon or circle will be required for the bottom and top of the product for each cover.

    3. Formation of the inner cover. We sew this cover in the same way. But the exception is the zipper, which is 40 cm long. Sew 45 cm from the bottom and top.

    4. Stuffing. Let's move on to last stage. If you are using artificial material, stuff the bag in the respirator mask. Fill the case 2/3 full. So the chair is softer.

    Thus, using this step-by-step plan, you will quickly get the job done. Just buy what you need, make the pattern simpler and sew the details. The resulting product must match the design of the room in which it is planned to be used.
