DIY soft ottoman pattern. How to make an original ottoman for your home. Ottoman made of multi-colored fabric

In order for a new comfortable and original piece of furniture to appear in your home, it is not at all necessary to go to the store and spend a lot of money. Of course, it’s better to buy a sofa or bed, but such an interior detail as an ottoman is not at all difficult to make with your own hands.

In addition, if you decide to start making an ottoman, you can make it the one that best suits your design.

It will be possible to choose the required form, material and color. However, this is not the only advantage of homemade ottomans, since its production may cost nothing at all.

Soft poufs

The easiest way is to sew a frameless soft ottoman yourself. To make it, you only need a piece of fabric, stuffing material and a sewing machine.

Although if there is none, then it is quite possible to do without it by sewing all the parts by hand. In order for your ottoman to be smooth and look beautiful, you need to make a pattern out of paper. It should be a square with triangles at the ends.

Using this template, you need to cut out 8 identical pieces of fabric, not forgetting to leave seam allowances. Moreover, you can use either one piece of fabric or materials of different colors and textures for each of the parts cut according to the pattern.

After all the parts are ready, you need to stitch them together to form a shape similar to a ball. And in order for the ottoman to be stuffed, bend the top of the triangle of each of its parts inward.

Filler

In order for the pouf to keep its shape, padding polyester or foam rubber are well suited. But other materials can also be used. Even fabric scraps are suitable as such.

To give the ottoman a finished look, you need to close the remaining hole by sewing on a circle of material with processed edges. If the edges of the part round shape If it is difficult for you to process, then it can be cut in the shape of an octagon.

You can simplify the task and sew a pouf from two round parts, which will be the top and bottom of the product, and two rectangular parts, which will be the sides of the pouf.

The height of the ottoman can be adjusted by the width of the rectangle. But the length should always be equal to half the length of the cut circle.

By sewing rectangular parts, stitching a circle to them and filling them with filler, you can get round ottoman, which will be soft and light. It will become not only a practical piece of furniture, but also a wonderful toy for children that cannot be injured.

A cube-shaped ottoman is made in a similar way. In this case, instead of two rectangular pieces and two circles, you will need 6 squares. Making a cube out of them is not difficult. And if you sew a hidden zipper into one of the edges, you can change the filling and wash the cover.

Pouf made from plastic bottles

You can make an ottoman with your own hands and from plastic bottles. They, of course, must have the same volume.

For this top part bottles, where it begins to narrow, need to be cut off and the part remaining without a cap must be put on another similar bottle. Repeating this procedure with other bottles, we form them into a round structure.

To prevent the bottles from deforming and the pouf from losing its shape, we fasten them with tape.

A little trick is that a bottle located inside other similar ones, fastened with ordinary transparent tape, can be pasted over with double-sided tape and glued to inside the remaining bottles.

Note!

In order to cover the upper and lower areas, you need to cut a circle out of cardboard or chipboard according to the diameter of the connected bottles. We glue foam rubber to these circles and wrap it around the outside of the pouf.

All that remains is to sew a cover for the finished ottoman. You can sew a zipper around its upper part.

Such furniture will save filler. And if the cover is made of raincoat or water-repellent fabric, then such furniture can even be placed outdoors.

In addition, as can be seen in the photo, round ottomans, made without a frame and containing inside plastic bottles, By appearance practically no different.

Pouf with lid

In order to make a pouf similar to those sold in stores, you need carpentry skills and some tools. To begin with, you should cut out 4 rectangular pieces from chipboard, 33 cm wide and 40 cm long.

Note!

To fasten them together use wooden blocks. A square with a side of 40 cm is attached to the bottom. As a result, you should end up with a kind of box.

This blank from the inside using construction stapler can be sheathed with material. The square, which will serve as a lid, is also lined with material from below. And the top, before tightening upholstery fabric, pasted over with foam rubber in order to give the ottoman softness.

Along the entire outer perimeter, the pouf, like the lid, is wrapped with foam rubber. And only then they are upholstered with material. Hinges are used to attach the lid to the cube. To give this piece of furniture mobility, you can attach furniture wheels to the bottom.

It’s even easier to make an ottoman with a lid from a bucket, large saucepan or other utensils and equipment.

The main thing is that, like poufs, they have a removable or opening lid. Then you just need to wrap the workpiece with foam rubber or other soft material and put a cover on it.

All homemade ottomans can fit perfectly not only into the interior of an apartment, but they are also a great option for a summer cottage or outdoor recreation. After all, ottomans are light and mobile due to their size and comfortable items furniture.

Note!

They are very suitable for children's rooms, giving little ones the opportunity to sit comfortably on them, or even build castles using poufs as blocks.

It is much more convenient to use such a piece of furniture to sit at a low coffee table, because a homemade pouf can be made to any height.

How to make an ottoman
To make an ottoman with your own hands, decide on the design, size and materials. Before starting work, we recommend making scale drawings of the product. This way, as you work, you can always determine the required angles and dimensions of each part. You can choose the dimensions of the ottoman at your discretion or use ours as a basis:
Height 40 cm
Diameter 80 cm.

Make a frame
Round ottoman
Draw a C-shaped curve on MDF sheet. To do this, you can use a cord, tie a nail to one end and a pencil to the other.
Step back 7 cm from the outer edge of the arc and draw another curve. Mark the points at which the vertical posts will be installed.

Square ottoman
Draw two squares (top and bottom)
Cut out the blanks using a jigsaw
Mark the points where the posts will be installed. Four racks in the corners are enough. Install the stands, securing them with screws and glue.
Secure the sides
Drill multiple holes on each edge
Try to smooth out all the bumps and sharp edges sandpaper, since they can be viewed through the upholstery.

Sew on Pac-Man's eye. We made the eye from the same material that we used for the upholstery of the sides. Your task is to choose the appropriate eye size and sew it to the upholstery. This can be done using sewing machine, powerful enough to penetrate several layers of leatherette, or by hand. Try to keep the seam as close to the outer edge of the eye circle as possible.

Do the upholstery square ottoman. We recommend starting with a smaller ottoman, since if things fail, it will be cheaper to reupholster than a large round ottoman.
Glue the foam
Use glue suitable for this purpose. Apply it to the base and let it dry for 15-20 minutes before gluing the foam.
Glue the foam rubber, trying to press it harder closer to the edges and less pressure in the center.
The foam should be slightly convex

Cover the top of the ottoman
Measure the size of the top edge of the cube, add 10 cm to each side
Use a stapler to secure the upholstery
Start from one corner and work your way to the adjacent ones
Check that there are no distortions and that the upholstery is sufficiently taut

To prevent wrinkles from forming at the corners, they need to be folded as in the photo.

The distance between staples should not exceed the width of the staple itself
Trim off excess leatherette.
Cover the sides of the soft ottoman
The sides are covered with one continuous piece of leatherette, which is wrapped around and stitched in one of the corners
Lay out white leatherette along the top edge with the wrong side facing out, lay cardboard strips that will ensure an even bend, secure them with staples
Fix thin foam rubber on the sides
Turn the leatherette inside out and fix it on the bottom edge of the cube. Fix the bottom three edges first. Pull the last corner so that there are no wrinkles in the upholstery, and secure the corner with temporary staples or pins. Fold the corners and trim off any excess trim. Make a neat seam along the corner. To do this, use a special curved needle. Securely fix the lower edges with staples, trim off excess leatherette, leaving approximately 5 mm behind the staples.

Upholster a round ottoman using the same technology as a square one. Difficulties can only arise with internal corner(from the corner of Pac-Man's mouth). In this part you will need to make several wedge-shaped cuts. Do this with extreme caution; if you cut too deep, you will ruin the entire upholstery.

DIY ottomans are ready! They look very stylish and are not much different from the factory ones.

There are a lot of ideas on the Internet for making ottomans with your own hands. For this purpose the most various materials. Sometimes you wonder how people came up with this? But the man is very smart and has come up with a huge number of ways to save money.

DIY pouf made from plastic bottles

And for the first master class that I want to show you, you will need simple plastic bottles. I was very surprised by this idea, and I liked it like crazy. Agree, we have bottles a dime a dozen, the material is, one might say, free, why not make a convenient and functional thing yourself.

Among other things, you will need thick cardboard, tape, padding polyester or foam rubber, and fabric. The bottles must be the same size and volume. Their number depends on the size of the future ottoman. You can make it small, or you can make it big enough to fit two people. And the larger the upper surface area, the more load it can withstand. In terms of strength, I can say that it is quite capable of withstanding up to 75 kg. Again, cardboard is cardboard, but if possible, replace it with plywood or plastic sheets, then such an ottoman will serve you for years.

Now put all the bottles together and tie everything with tape. Try to make it even and tight. Next, measure the diameter of the workpiece and cut out 4 cardboard circles. The bottom and lid will be double for greater strength. Secure them to the bottles also with adhesive tape. The basis is cooking, then you need to cut pieces of padding polyester to size. That is, the side part and the top - a circle. The thicker the material, the better. By the way, it can be replaced with foam rubber, but it will be a little more expensive. Using glue, glue to the base. Well, then everything depends on your imagination and possibilities.

For example, a cover can be sewn from fabric, even using small pieces.

Use leather instead. It will be a masterpiece then.

Decorate with lace, ruffles or applique.

Felt flowers will make your pouf an exclusive thing and will not leave connoisseurs indifferent self made. Those who love to knit can make decor from threads.

I think it’s worth taking time and seriously imagining to get such an original piece of furniture.

DIY ottoman made from tires

Let's now move on to the next master class. It will be a little lighter. This will require old tire from under the wheel. Surprised? But don't be afraid, it's not at all country option, although it can also be used in summer house.

Here you will need to prepare some serious tools:

  • Screwdriver
  • Self-tapping screws
  • Hot melt adhesive
  • Varnish and brush
  • Two round pieces of plywood with a diameter slightly smaller than a wheel (see photo)
  • And thick rough rope

First of all, you need to thoroughly wash the tire from dust and dirt and let it dry thoroughly.

Then, using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, fasten the bottom and seat. Screw them in at a distance of 7-10 centimeters from each other around the entire perimeter.

The preparation is ready! All that remains is to carefully glue the rope, starting from the middle of the bottom in a spiral. Finally, coat the product with several layers of varnish. But you can do without it. It turns out to be a very simple and at the same time unusual pouf made from a tire.

Soft pouf - DIY bag

The next option is a soft pouf. It is also called a bean bag chair. It is very popular among children and is most often purchased for a child’s room or balcony. It costs at least one and a half thousand. And of course, the price depends on the size. But we know that you can save a lot and make such a miracle pouf yourself.

To make it you will need two types of fabric: cotton (linen) thick and beautiful for the cover, thread, needles, sewing machine, filler.

To begin, draw paper patterns. You will need 4 side and 2 round (bottom and top). The diameter of the round parts depends on the size of the top of the side parts.

Transfer the patterns to the fabric and cut them out, then sew all the parts, including the bottom and top. Make a ball, but don't forget to leave small hole, where the filler can be poured. It is sold in specialized stores for furniture fittings.

Turn the workpiece inside out and fill it with filler. Use a needle and thread to sew up the remaining hole. Make sure that the density of the future ottoman is normal.

Next, all that remains is to sew a decorative cover from a beautiful finishing fabric, which will give the appropriate appearance to the product. It is sewn in the same way as the base, using the same patterns. This is how beautiful it turns out. Yes, you will have to work hard, as they say, but it’s worth it. So go for it!

DIY pouf from a chest

What do you think of this idea of creating a pouf? I really like these things. In general, I love to create and I believe that something created with my own hands is the best. After all, a person puts his soul and warmth into it.

Now I will show you how you can make an ottoman yourself from a chest, wooden box or drawer at home. My option will stand out from the others in that it can be used not only as a place to sit, but also as a table.

First we need to prepare necessary materials and tools. If we take the chest as a basis, great. It does not require additional processing and decoration, unlike a wooden box or box. In this case, the base must be painted or covered with fabric or leather.

In order to make a pouf we need:

  • base for an ottoman - for us it’s a chest
  • two sheets of plywood to fit the base cover
  • stain
  • transparent varnish
  • brush and rags
  • foam rubber about 4 centimeters wide, the size of plywood
  • padding polyester is 10 centimeters larger than foam rubber on each side
  • seat upholstery fabric
  • furniture stapler
  • nails or screws with neat heads (furniture)

It's better to cut it sharp knife. I tried it with scissors, but it didn't turn out smooth. Cut off the padding polyester and fabric.

Starting from the middle, we attach the padding polyester to the wood using a furniture stapler.

Special attention pay attention to the corners. If you do them haphazardly at this stage, the pouf will look sloppy. Slowly stretch the padding polyester and fold it as shown in the picture.

Here comes the final part of our work on making a homemade ottoman and, in combination, a coffee table.

As I said earlier, we will need screws with a beautiful and neat head, as in the picture. Carnations suited me perfectly for door frames. Using them we attach the second piece of plywood to the back of the seat.

Now we can install it on our base. This is what happened (do-it-yourself pouf-chest).

We turn it over - and we have a table for board games or tea party.

All this is done in one evening. Simply and easily. And most importantly, it’s functional, because you can store whatever your heart desires in it!

This neat little pouf is essentially a “thick” pillow. It can be placed on the floor and used as a seat or footstool, or placed on a sofa or chair.

You will need:
- dense fabric (in in this case a textile mat about 2 m long was used);
- burlap;
- a pillow of the appropriate size with a “ball” filler (made of polystyrene balls);
- pins, scissors, sewing machine and thread.

To update the design of your home, use additional items furniture, which includes homemade ottomans. Compared to factory ones, they have great advantages: due to their size, poufs are mobile, as well as multifunctional and lightweight interior elements. To make them, you can use various available materials found in your home and choose the type of upholstery, color, shape, size yourself. In the end, such a product will cost almost no investment.

You will learn how to make an ottoman with your own hands from of this material, A beautiful photos and the video instructions at the end of the article will make your task easier.

A simple way to make soft poufs

We often don’t have enough time and desire to deal with patterns, so soft ottomans can be made like this:

  1. We cut out two circles from the fabric, which in diameter should be the same as the diameter of the bottom and top of the product. Be sure to leave seam allowances;
  2. Next, cut out two identical parts rectangular shape, the width of which is the height of the ottoman, the length is 1/2 the circumference of the lower and upper parts;
  3. We sew the rectangular parts together along the width from one edge until we get a long ribbon;
  4. We baste one circle to it, sew along the seam, and do the same manipulation with the other circle. If you receive an uneven seam, you can trim it using a decorative border.

Making a case for a product using this method is simple and quick. It is stuffed with any soft material that is at hand. At the end of the process, a zipper is sewn into the unstitched edges of the rectangular tape.

"Chair" made of plastic bottles

Plastic bottles can be used creatively in everyday life and can even be used to form practical pieces of furniture, because plastic container is a cheap, convenient, lightweight, and, in fact, eternal material. By making an ottoman from bottles with your own hands, you will acquire an irreplaceable item that will fit perfectly into the interior of your cottage or home, will not take up much space and will last for several years.

For a compact and soft seat, first prepare the bottles - wash them, remove the stickers. To make the container stronger, we place it in open form in a cold room for an hour, then close it with a stopper and place it under a well-heated radiator. Bottles expand due to temperature differences and keep their shape for a long time.

For upholstery it’s better to take one like this furniture fabric, like faux fur, tapestry. The fabric should have a dense base and wash well.

You will need:

  • Stationery knife;
  • 16 bottles of 1.5 l;
  • Threads, needles, sewing machine;
  • Two types of tape - transparent and double-sided;
  • Foam rubber (thickness – 3 cm);
  • Lightning;
  • Plywood (corrugated cardboard);
  • Furniture fabric for upholstery.

How to make an ottoman:

  1. We make the seat from its middle: we wrap it double-sided tape the central bottle, to which we will glue three or four more. Secure it well with transparent tape;
  2. We make a circle, level the base along a straight and hard surface. Secure each layer from bottom to top with tape;
  3. Let's cut out two round pieces of cardboard that are the same size as the pouf seat. Wrap the bottom and top with tape;
  4. Take a piece of foam rubber and completely wrap the future piece of furniture. We sew round shaped foam rubber to its edges on top;
  5. Now it’s time to take measurements, which we will transfer to the fabric. Next, cut out the parts of the product from the fabric and sew them in the round. We will sew a zipper into the side of the case and “dress” it with a pouf.

We get a light and reliable seat, also great for a children's room.

Another seat variation from large quantities foam rubber:

  1. This material is taken in a rectangular piece, the container is placed on it and wrapped. It turns out to be a soft bag “with a plastic filling” inside and a voluminous seat. The container lies much smoother than when wrapped with tape;
  2. This ottoman stands on bottle necks. For its stability and strength, we will take twice as many containers. We cut off the necks, stick a whole bottle into them, and in the end we get a cylinder, which we then decorate at our discretion.

Tire stool with backrest

You can use tires to make comfortable and durable ottomans for the hallway or any other room:

  1. Let's prepare two round timbers from MDF or thick plywood, which should be slightly smaller in diameter than the wheel. They will serve to close holes;
  2. We take bolts with nuts or self-tapping screws and fasten the circles in three places.

The ottoman design can be designed in two variations:

  • We will cover the top round piece of plywood with foam rubber, and attach this material to the side of the tire with a furniture stapler. Let's make a cover that we will stretch on top. If you have small squares of bars, you can paint them and make legs from them;
  • Country style method. Take a thick braided rope and wrap it around the ottoman, not forgetting to secure it with glue. We will first cover both round timbers in a spiral, then the side parts of the wheel. Hide the ends of the rope and cover the top with varnish.

You can improve the resulting product and make an ottoman with a back. It will require carefully processed wooden blocks (five pieces).

  1. They are attached to the bottom of the chair, for which all the bars are connected to the side of the tire using four bolts.
  2. The back can be made with a slight tilt back. To achieve this, the upper bolts are installed with a spacer of washers.
  3. We make a back-sized pillow from two-layer foam rubber with a fabric cover. We sew ribbons on it (one third below the level of the top), they will also be tied to all the bars. Ribbons secure the cushion and at the same time serve to decorate the back of the pouf.

Pear ottoman option

Let's look at how to make an ottoman bag, which is a fashionable element of modern interiors.

You will need:

  • Pattern paper;
  • Fabric for the inner cover – 300x150 mm;
  • Threads of high density;
  • Strong and dense fabric for upholstery (suede, tapestry) – 320x150 mm;
  • Zipper – 60 cm;
  • Polystyrene foam filler with holofiber additive - 0.5-1 cubic meters. meter.

For the inner cover of the product, choose a slippery, smooth fabric. Thanks to it, the filler will easily roll over the bag and take the shape of the person resting in it.

The pouf pattern contains six bag wedges and one bottom part for the base.

  1. First the drawings the necessary details must be done on paper. Next they are transferred to the fabric that will be used on the outer and inner part ottoman;
  2. When cutting, leave seam allowances of 1.5 cm;
  3. The upholstery bag should be made up of pieces that are slightly larger in size than the filler pieces, so the outer cover will be easier to fit onto the filler bag;
  4. We sew all the fabric parts of the bag. First, these will be wedges that are sewn together, then we proceed to the base;
  5. Leave room for the zipper on the outside;
  6. We pour filler into the inner bag, which will take up 2/3 of its volume, and stitch the remaining places;
  7. We put the cover on top and fasten the zipper.

A cute pear ottoman will add comfort and coziness to your home.

Product with box

To make an ottoman with a drawer, you need to follow the following instructions:

  1. From chipboard we cut out 2 blanks measuring 37x37 cm and 37x40 cm, and one square - 40x40 cm;
  2. We cut out 4 pieces of 37 cm in length from the timber (4x4 cm in cross-section);
  3. From these elements we make a box with a height of 37 cm;
  4. Using wood glue inner corners we fasten the timber;
  5. We fix the corners from the outside metal corners or self-tapping screws;
  6. Apply glue to the bottom and timber. Glue the bottom and let it dry. After this we secure it with self-tapping screws;
  7. We attach 4 locking bars to the square sheet for making the lid. This will secure the lid in the box;
  8. We upholster it with soft material (batting, foam rubber, padding polyester).

This piece of furniture can be perfectly used as an ottoman for shoes, which can be put away in a storage box from season to season.
