The installation disk image file. How to create a bootable USB flash drive or disk from an ISO image

Instruction

If the application is not yet installed on your computer, then you can download the distribution kit from the official website of the manufacturer. The download will only take a few minutes. The program is paid, but for now, the trial version is enough for you, which has all the necessary functions and will work for 30 days. Run the installation and follow the wizard.

In the main program window, click on the "File" button and select "Open" from the drop-down menu. A dialog box will appear in front of you, on the left side of which you will see all the folders on your hard drive. Select the desired folder. A list of folders in it will appear on the right side. Select a prepared boot disk image from this list. At the bottom of the window, in the line "File name", its name will appear. Click the "Open" button next to it.

A new window will open in which you will see the contents of the selected image. Here you need to make sure that in the information field "Image", located at the top of the window, there is an inscription "Bootable". If it says "No bootstrapping", then create boot disk, from which you can start the operating system, this image will not work.

To start burning, click on the "Tools" button and select "Burn CD image" from the menu that appears. The same result can be obtained by clicking the corresponding button on the "Toolbar", or simply by using hot key F7. The recording settings dialog box will open. Indicate the path to the drive to the program, select the recording speed (in order to avoid errors, it is better to stop at the minimum). From the burning method drop-down menu, select Disc-at-once (DAO) - all at once. Check the "Validate" checkbox. Click "Record".

The Burn Image window will open, allowing you to monitor the burning process. At the end of the process, the disc tray will be opened automatically and a notification about the results of the operation and data verification will appear on the screen. If everything is in order, then you will see a line with the inscription "Verification completed successfully!". Otherwise, the recording will have to be repeated using a different disc.

note

If you want to burn a boot disk image to a DVD-RW, be sure to format the disc before burning. This will prevent the old data from being read along with the new entry.

If the Nero package is also installed on the system, then in order to avoid conflicts between applications, in the UltraIso program settings, on the "Record" tab, you need to uncheck the "Use NeroAPI if possible" item.

Useful advice

Now that the settings have already been made, you can burn boot images without opening the main program window. It is enough to select the desired image and double-click on its icon with the mouse button. UltraIso will open, in which you will see a bootable image ready for recording. All you have to do is insert the disc and click the "Burn" button.

When copying information from some discs, there is a possibility of partial duplication of folders and files. As a result, programs or games that use this type of disk writing cannot be launched due to missing some files. To avoid such a combination of circumstances, it is necessary to use specialized utilities that allow you to duplicate files from the selected media in full. These utilities have become widespread by copying and creating disks in an image file. A disk image is a file that contains an exact copy of the disk you need.

You will need

Instruction

Use the Nero Express program. This is an analogue of Nero Burning Rom, which we will analyze later. It features a minimum number of settings and allows you to burn discs in a few mouse clicks.

Launch Nero Express and select "Disk image or save".

In the window that opens, find and select the disk image we need.

Use Nero Burning Rom. Run it and by clicking the "Recorder" menu, select "Burn Image".

In the window that opens, find and select the disk image we need. In the next window, select the drive, as in Nero Express. Select the recording options and click the "Burn" button.

note

How can I write a bootable Windows disk XP? For the recording process, we will need the xpboot.bin file - this is the file that will be the bootloader. We will look at the process of burning a disc using Nero Burning Rom version 5.5.7.8 as an example, because in our opinion it is the best professional disc burning program.

Useful advice

Here's how to burn a bootable CD/DVD using Ultra ISO Portable. Download the UltraISO Portable program if you haven't downloaded it yet. Tips for burning a disc: Try not to work on the computer during the recording. To avoid getting a non-working disk, clear the flag Use NeroAPI if possible. And click "OK". Next, using the path File > Open, we enter the Open ISO file window. For example, here is an image of a Windows XP Pro SP3 boot disk.

In many cases, in order to restore the working state of the operating systems requires a special disk. The capabilities of Windows Seven allow you to create such a disk without using additional programs.

I have tried to explain this to the readers of my site. Explain it the way I understand it. Now it's time to tell how this disk is created. I will tell on the example of the Windows 7 distribution.

You can download the Windows 7 image on the Internet in * .iso format. As you know, information about the boot sector is stored in this format, which means it will not be difficult to burn a disk or flash drive from this image. This can be done with any disc burning program. Fortunately, the Internet is full of them, both free and not very.

So let's get started. The first thing to do is download the Windows 7 distribution and unpack it into some folder (see Fig. 1). By the way, this can be done with the usual WINRAR or 7-zip archiver. There are also archivers on the Internet. 7-zip is generally free. As a result, you should get something like this (Fig. 2):

As I said, you can use a ready-made image downloaded from the Internet, but our task is to learn how to create a boot disk (preferably a disk image) ourselves. What is it for? Let's say you made some changes to the distribution and now you need to make sure that the resulting disk is also bootable, like the original one. For example, you removed the ei.cfg file from the distribution kit. By deleting this file, you can install not only Windows 7 Ultimate, but also Started, Professional, etc., depending on which assemblies the install.wim distribution file includes.

But back to "our sheep". Let's say all the changes have been made to the distribution and it (the distribution) looks like in Figure 2. I will create the image in the Nero Burning ROM program. It's more convenient for me, I'm used to it. If you understand the principle, you can repeat the same thing in any other program. Running it, we see next window(Fig. 3):

Click on the "New" button, as shown by the red arrow in Fig. 3. This means the creation of a new project. A window will open as in Figure 4. Here we will dwell in more detail:

The first thing to do is select the DVD disc type in the top left corner of the window (Figure 4). Then, in the left part of the window, click on the DVD-ROM (Boot), thereby selecting the creation of a boot disk. After that, we get to the "Load" tab of our project. Here, by clicking the "Browse" button, open the boot folder in the place where we copied the windows 7 distribution kit. In it, select the etfsboot.com file (underlined with a red stripe) in the picture. This file is an image of the boot sectors of our disk.

Select emulation type "No emulation". "Loading message" and "Sector loading segment (hex!)" are left as in the picture. We set the number of boot sectors to 8. Now I will explain why this is so. To do this, we need to open the boot folder with this file of our distribution kit (Fig. 5):

The fact is that the number of sectors depends on the size of the etfsboot.com file. A standard sector is 512 bytes or 0.5 KB. As can be seen from fig. 5, the etfsboot.com file is 4 KB in size. It is easy to calculate that the entire file will take up 8 sectors (4/0.5=8). Here is the arithmetic. Let's return to fig. 4. As we can see, there are other tabs here. In principle, you can leave everything as it is, if you want, then on the "Sticker" tab you can set the name of the disk. After all the settings are made, click on the "New" button fig. 4, the window fig. 6:

First you need to select a recording device, i.e. your DVD burner, or in my case Image Recorder. By selecting it, I will not hang the image on a physical disk, but create an * .iso file, you see, it’s more practical. You can always write to disk.

Next, open your Windows distribution folder. In my case, this is folder 555 on drive D. As shown in the figure, select all the files and drag them into the project window with the mouse. By the way, my disk is called Windows 7. I wrote down this name in the "Sticker" tab in fig. 4. As soon as the files are added to the project, below you can see overall size disk or image, as in our case. Don't forget to select the type of DVD disc (lower right corner of the picture).

When all the settings are done, it remains only to click on the "Record" button. Click and get into the next window (Fig. 7). Here you need to check that the "Record" checkbox is ticked and click the "Burn" button. Since we are creating an image, a window will open where you will need to select the type of image file and come up with a name for it (Fig. 8).

Figure 8 shows the arrow to select the file type. You need to select ISO (I remind you that this is due to the fact that information about the boot sectors of a DVD disc is stored in this format. Choosing any other format will destroy this information.), come up with a name for this image and click the "Save" button. After that, the process of creating a disk image will begin. Now it remains only to wait for the end of this process, after which the following window will appear (Fig. 9):

Everything, the creation of the image of Windows 7 is completed, with which I congratulate you.

And finally ... If you liked this article and you learned something new for yourself from it, then you can always express your gratitude in monetary terms. The amount can be any. How to create a boot disk for Windows 7 - 10, XP? Where to get a disk image, how to burn it. These simple questions always arise for novice Windows installers.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made licensed disk. But you can buy licensed discs only for those versions of Windows that are supported in this moment at official dealers or sales representatives. But only those that are sold by the manufacturer and are provided with improvements and corrections, that is, updates. It will be of course expensive and only what is on sale at the moment. And if you need an earlier version, one that is no longer officially sold? You can buy such installation discs in completely different stores many times cheaper or even create it yourself.

A little about installation disks.

Boot disks Windows 7 - 10, XP - it's always different kind assembly, i.e. bundling packages from Microsoft or different from them. Non-standard assemblies are carried out by different craftsmen and not always out of idle curiosity or noble motives. Trojans are often inserted into assemblies. Personally, I came across a few on cheap unlicensed discs bought in a store. After installing the OS from such a disk, the computer may be infected and perform functions unknown to us. You can use these discs at your own risk. If you use the infected disk not only for yourself, then other people may also suffer. This is quite possible.

To avoid such troubles, I suggest you create a Windows 7 - 10, XP boot disk yourself. Believe me, this is not at all difficult and much cheaper than buying a ready-made disk, it is absolutely safe, and most importantly, you will make bootable disks for exactly the versions of Windows that you need. You probably already know exactly what you'll be installing.

I suggest starting this discussion by creating a Windows XP boot disk. Perhaps you will say: "Why do I need it, I have the newest, coolest computer." But take your time.

Firstly the process of creating a boot disk does not depend on the version of Windows in any way and is performed in exactly the same way. And this means no matter what version of Windows to learn. The main thing is to understand the principle.

Secondly, there is no guarantee that tomorrow you personally or one of your friends will not need this very Windows XP, which still works confidently on millions of old computers or weak laptops, and works great on all new ones. By the way, on many beeches, due to their configuration, you often can’t put anything else.

ZverDVD Boot Disk Image Windows XP

Thirdly, I offer you such a proven build of Windows XP that once you try it, you yourself will fall in love with it. It's called ZverDVD. In my opinion this is the best build. Someone will want to object that there are others. Yes, there are other good builds. But I liked this one more than others. And now I will briefly tell you why.

Most assemblies sin with useless volumes. That is, the creators consider the larger the volume, the better, and it doesn’t matter what they shove there. These costs arise from the desire to get more profit from scratch, since the assemblies are laid out on torrents and often on file exchangers, and there they pay money for large volumes and number of downloads. Personally, I don't like it when it's shoved into the installation disk incredible amount unnecessary programs and, in addition, repetitive topics.

So the guys who created the "ZverDVD" package approached this matter like the greatest masters. It feels like they did it for themselves, not for show. Their main principle was "Do no harm". Drivers for the most common devices were added to the Windows XP installation package shown in the figure, which made it possible to activate almost any computer released at the time of the release of the assembly during installation. Added useful and important default settings. Disabled unnecessary and unnecessary functions.

All errors in the preset settings were corrected with lightning speed. All updates were included in the package as quickly as possible. Officially announced releases of assemblies occurred at the rarest of times every three months. But if necessary, there were intermediate ones. That is, the guys worked as in official production with plans and deadlines. Latest build XP includes everything Latest updates and polished like a diamond. It has everything you need and nothing more.

But that's not all. The "ZverDVD" group has released a collection of the best and most necessary programs for any user. It's called WPI. This is a package of pre-installed programs. Moreover, the programs are prepared in such a way that they are absolutely correctly installed on both XP and 7, and therefore will work on 8/8.1/10. Each release of the assembly is accompanied by updates to the versions of the programs included in the WPI. This pack alone deserves to have it in your collection.

And that is not all . The so-called "Alkid SE" package is installed on the "ZverDVD" disk. It's a somewhat crippled, lightweight, pre-installed and fully functional Windows XP that can be booted directly from the DVD and runs absolutely on any computer. You need it when you have emergency situation. The computer cannot boot from the hard drive and there is a huge risk of data loss. By activating the computer from such a disk, you can save (save) all the data and then safely reinstall Windows.

If you are interested in any details about this assembly or the addresses of torrents from which you can download the assembly, then you should register on the "ZverDVD" forum. There are answers to all possible questions, and for one, links to torrent trackers for downloading the assembly.

The government, gratifying the business, began to prohibit the work of torrents, blocking them by domain names. Therefore, these links do not work directly, but, as always, there are options to bypass such blocking. In Yandex or Opera browsers, turn on the VPN mode all the time and then download the images as usual.

boot image disk Zver 2018.4 Windows 8.1 Pro x64

For those who are categorically against Windows XP, I want to tell you some good news: "ZverDVD" is finally released new assembly, the very current "Zver 2018.4 Windows 8.1 Pro x64". It turned out to be a very large volume of more than 7.74 GB. So it will not be possible to write it to a regular disk in full. We'll have to tear off the WPI block. You can burn the full volume of this assembly only on a 9 GB disc or on a volume of 8 GB or more. The capabilities of this build are the same as the previous one, only all programs are updated and instead of Windows XP, the installation package Windows 8.1 PRO x64 is installed with updates up to April 2018 inclusive. All settings are left as in the original.

Zver boot disk image 2018.5 Windows 10 Enterprise x64

For lovers of everything new, even more good news. Zver has released a build for Windows 10 Enterprise x64. Its name is Zver_Windows_10_enterprise_LTSB_v2018.5_x64. The assembly image file size is 6.39 GB. She is 8 GB. This build updated all the programs in the WPI package and added all windows updates 10 released before May 2018. You can download it at this address. All settings are left as they are in original version Windows.

And so, I hope that you have already downloaded the disk image you need. If not yet, then you can do it right now using any of the links provided in the previous paragraphs. You may need to register on torrents, but I think this is not a problem for you. After downloading, a huge file will appear on your computer called ZverDVD_2014.5.ISO or Zver_2018.4_Windows_8.1_Pro_x64.iso or Zver_Windows_10_enterprise_LTSB_v2018.5_x64.iso.

What is a disk image file?

The file name extension "ISO" just says that this is a disk image file. A disk image file is an archive file (maybe without compression, which is most often the case) in which all files are saved in the order that is needed to boot the operating system. Probably here for better understanding I need to explain a little how files are written to a CD / DVD disc?

The point is this. Disc burning programs write information the way you see it on the screen, not the way you need to boot the operating system. That is, sorted alphabetically or in some other way (for example, by the date and time the files were created or by size). And if we copy all the information from the boot disk to the hard drive, and then write it in the usual way to CD / DVD, then we will not have a boot disk. Here is such a problem.

And when we create an image file from a ready-made boot disk, then the entire disk structure is completely preserved. There is also a boot area with the system loader, and a system area with system files located exactly in the order in which the system loader wants to see them, and then all the files. That is, the image file is an exact copy of the boot disk. And now, if we burn this image file to a CD / DVD disk with a special program, then we will get an absolutely exact copy of the disk from which the image file was taken. This is extremely important for creating a boot disk.

Programs for recording images

Nero Burning ROM

From the text, you probably already noticed that a special program is needed to write the image file. Windows itself can only write the image as a file, but cannot unpack it and write everything as it should. This problem is perfectly solved by special programs. One of such specialized programs is "Nero Burning ROM". The whole package "Nero Burning ROM" is quite huge and multifunctional. It has a cover editor for discs, and an audio file editor, and a video file editor, and audio / video players, and and and and ... a lot of things, but for now we only need the disc burner itself, directly "Nero Burning ROM" .

Where to get it? And it is available in the WPI package, inside any ZverDVD image file. This is one of those necessary good programs which you will need sooner or later. How can I get it from there? As I already told you, the image file is an archive, so it can be easily opened by any archiver. So if you have a WinRAR or WinZip or 7Zip archiver, then you can easily unpack this archive into a separate folder. Next, open it, look for the WPI folder. Open it and run the only file in this folder called WPI.EXE. After it is fully operational, you will see something like this window.

In the lower left corner, I circled with a red rectangle, there is a timer showing how many minutes the installation process will begin. To stop it, you need to click the mouse in any free space and the timer will disappear. See screenshot below.

As you can see, the timer is gone and now you can safely see which programs are marked. The default selection is currently made. By the way, look carefully at how well the most important programs are selected. This alone speaks of the high qualifications of the people who created this package. If you do not need these programs, then click the deselect button (circled in red) and all the checkmarks will disappear. Look further.

You see all the checkboxes are removed. Now you can safely point the arrow at each program and read a little what it is for. Check the programs you need. If you are currently running Windows vista/7/8/8.1/10, do not select .netFramework 1-4.0 (crossed out in yellow). This software package was created specifically for Windows XP. .netFramework 4.5 has been developed for Windows vista/7/8/8.1/10 and it is automatically downloaded by the system as an update package.

And so we are currently interested in only one program Nero Micro. Here we mark it and press the "start installation" button. The software is small. So it won't take long to wait. After installation, an icon of a blazing colosseum will appear on the screen. We start the program.

How to create a Windows 7 - 10, XP boot disk with Nero?

When the program starts, the screen looks like the one shown in the figure below:
How to Create a Windows 10 Boot Disk - 7 XP 5 Windows in Nero

As you can see, a window popped up in the middle of the screen prompting you to create " New project". But we don't need it. We press the red cross in the upper right corner and close this window.
How to Create a Windows 10 Boot Disk - 7 XP 6 Windows in Nero

Next, open the DVD drive and insert a pre-purchased blank disc for recording. Fortunately, its price is small 11-17 r apiece, if taken without boxes. (A plastic box costs another 20 rubles.) And so we insert the disc with the painted side up. And close the drive. Click the "Open" icon - it's a yellow folder with a green arrow. Or open the "File" menu and select the second line "Open" in the drop-down menu. A list with files/disks appears. We are looking for the folder where we put our image file "ZverDVD_2014.5.ISO", select this file and press "OK" or just the "Enter" button on the keyboard. The program immediately recognizes this file as a ready-made disk image and offers to burn it to DVD. See picture below.
How to create a Windows 10 boot disk - 7 XP 7 Windows in Nero

Here, in principle, everything is already set up correctly, but still I will say a few words for clarification. When writing system boot disks, it is very important that they are readable on all drives.

Therefore, you do not need to check the "Determine the maximum speed" checkbox.

The imitation item will not allow you to record. It doesn't need to be marked either.

"Record" it is natural and understandable to be included.

"Finalize Disc" it means to close it after recording. Further recording will not be possible. This is a very important point. If when recording full disk if it is not finalized, then it may not be read at all on all drives. So we have to check the box here.

Write speed is also a very important point. If you record at maximum or simply at high speed, then the disc may then be uncertain or even poorly readable on some drives. If you specify a speed of 1x, then the recording will take a little longer, but it will be better and the disc will be read on almost all drives. (Joke: at 1st speed, write even on plywood, it will still be readable). So I recommend that when burning bootable disks, write them exactly at the first speed, if the disk allows it, or in extreme cases, at the lowest speed indicated on the disk, and auto speed detection should be disabled as mentioned above.

Before pressing the "Burn" button, a few more very important recommendations:

1. Disable all running programs, leave only "NERO".

2. Be sure to disable all downloads from the Internet.

3. Disable hard drive maintenance.

4. If you have a screensaver turned on (this is the mode when the screen goes blank or some kind of screensaver is turned on, especially active, moving or rotating) DISABLE !!! at the time of recording.

5. In short, you need to disable everything that works with disks.

After pressing the "Burn" button, the recording of the disc will start. If the disc is disposable, it will not be possible to erase and rewrite it. Therefore, any distraction of the computer from the burning process or pushing the drive or the entire computer can lead to the disc being corrupted.

And this means that you need to behave like this:

Disable all unnecessary programs, especially those that can use the hard drive.

Prevent such programs from being included in automatic mode, i.e. disable autoruns of any programs, scheduled tasks, screen savers and screensavers.

Press the "Burn" button and gently move away from the table without pushing the computer. I think it will not be interesting for you to sit at the computer for a long time and do nothing. The only thing you can do is check the box "Check disk after burning". This means that after the recording is completed, the disc will be checked for recording quality, but this can not be done. At the end of the recording, the drive will open to cool the disc. This means the recording is complete. The inscription on the screen "Recording completed successfully" will also notify you of this and the recording time will be indicated (for example, 5 minutes 45 seconds).

Now that's all. You yourself created a Windows XP, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 boot disk that you can use to install, reinstall Windows, as well as the most necessary programs for each user.
