MAINTENANCE OF AUTOMATIC GAS FIRE EXTINGUISHING INSTALLATIONS.

GAS FIRE EXTINGUISHING - This is a type of fire extinguishing in which gas fire extinguishing agents are used to extinguish fires and fires: freon, inert gases or carbon dioxide. Gas fire extinguishing extinguishes fires and fires highly effectively and at the same time saves the protected material values to the maximum. It is widely used to protect server rooms, data centers, switchboards, cable channels, banking, museum, library values, etc.

Gases (gas extinguishing agents)

In the Russian market, freons, inert gases, carbon dioxide CO2 are widely used for extinguishing. The most common freons for use are freon 23, freon 125, freon 227ea, Novec 1230. From the point of view of safety, freon 23 stands out for the better from all gases used, which has unique toxicological properties and can be recommended for protecting premises with people. In addition, this gas has the best opportunities for organizing extinguishing and protection stations located at large distances from the gas storage site. This is due to the fact that freon 23 has special physical and chemical properties. Its boiling point is minus 82˚C, so it is stored in a cylinder under a pressure of about 40 atmospheres, and when the cylinder is opened, it passes into a gaseous state. This allows it to spread over long distances horizontally and vertically. This gas spreads horizontally about 100 meters or more, and upwards - to a height of up to 20 - 25 meters. The properties of freon 23 make it possible to protect objects of any complexity reliably and safely for people.

Gas extinguishing agents are supplied in cylinders from various manufacturers. First of all, these are cylinders of a Russian manufacturer, which are distinguished by high workmanship, stock availability and short delivery times. Also, gas fire extinguishing agents are supplied in LPG TYCO cylinders, which have proven themselves in the Russian market for more than 18 years.

CO2 carbon dioxide can be supplied either in cylinders up to 100 liters or LPG or supplied in high capacity isothermal tanks. A wide range of cylinders from various manufacturers allows you to optimally solve the problem of protecting an object in terms of fire protection.

Modern industrial, residential and public buildings are inconceivable without an extensive system of power lines and the use of various types of electronic devices, from automatic locks and electric fans to complex computer systems or communication networks.
A significant part of the production works with the use of substances that are not recommended to be allowed to come into contact with water, or which, if ignited, cannot be extinguished with water. In such cases, it is necessary to use waterless extinguishing agents. One of the ways to implement fire extinguishing without the use of water or aqueous solutions of chemicals is the use of gases.

Automatic gas fire extinguishing installations operate in a mode that does not require the presence of a person. For the full operation of such devices, they must meet certain parameters and have some design features, including:

  1. Availability of a constant supply of compressed, liquefied or concentrated non-combustible gas;
  2. Equipment of installations with a fire detection system;
  3. Completion of fire extinguishing systems with locking devices that are in constant readiness for operation;
  4. Optimal distribution of working heads for guaranteed protection of the entire volume of the room.
To ensure these properties, the automatic gas fire extinguishing system is equipped with special devices, each of which performs specific functions. In order for the installation to work most efficiently, all its components must interact optimally. This is achieved by using only certified parts and components, the properties of which do not differ from the design ones.

Automatic gas fire extinguishing installations are complex systems, the design of which should take into account many factors and parameters. These are the physical and chemical properties of gases, and the reaction of gas storage tanks and pipelines to elevated or reduced temperatures, the dependence of pressure on the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air, etc.

The design of gas fire extinguishing should be carried out in accordance with the terms of reference by the forces of enterprises and organizations that have been issued the appropriate licenses. Like other fire extinguishing equipment, gas fire extinguishing equipment is subject to certification and must comply with certain standards described in the relevant SNiP and GOST.

Modular gas extinguishing systems

The most optimal design for use at objects of various purposes are modular gas fire extinguishing installations. Their main feature is the storage of gas in separate modules of limited volume, which can be combined into batteries. In each battery, the number of modules is practically unlimited, and is determined only by the parameters of the protected room. In small rooms, installations consisting of one separate module can be used if its calculated volume is sufficient to extinguish any theoretically possible fire in a room of this type, taking into account the characteristics of the materials stored there.

The main part of such a system is the MGP gas fire extinguishing module. It is an ordinary gas cylinder, which is made of high-alloy steel. The capacity of the cylinder is in the range of 80 - 150 liters. Modern automatic gas fire extinguishing installations are equipped with modules coated on the outside, inside, or both sides with polymer compositions. Such protection greatly extends the life of an individual module.

The conditions in the rooms where the modules are installed may be very humid, dusty, or subject to the penetration of some aggressive substances, such as water vapor or acid and alkali vapors. Isothermal modules for gaseous fire extinguishing for the storage of liquefied gas (CO₂) are characterized by heat-tight housings.

Robust, corrosion-protected housing of the module ensures the operation of the entire system for a long time.
Cylinders are equipped with shut-off and starting devices - valves that open almost instantly with the help of squibs, pneumatic or electrical devices. The starting devices are activated by a signal from the detectors. The type of signal depends on the design features of the automatic gas fire extinguishing installation.

Module Impulse 20

To protect against fire in a separate room, the Impulse 20 gas fire extinguishing module is used. Its distinguishing characteristic is complete autonomy. For full-fledged work, installation of pipelines and complex control systems is not required. It is a spherical metal flask (cylinder) equipped with a locking mechanism in the form of a collapsing glass flask, an electrically driven shock rod and an atomizer head.
The cylinder is filled with Freon 125 gas in the amount of 18 kg. Other parameters:
  • Gas pressure in the cylinder 25 bar;
  • Response time with an electrical impulse of the detector 2s;
  • Duration of gas spraying 10s;
  • Thermal lock destruction temperature 68˚;
  • Number of operations 5;
  • Operating temperature range -10, +50˚С.
The module is located suspended under the ceiling with the calculation of 1 device per 30 m³ of room volume. To protect two adjacent rooms of small dimensions, one module equipped with a switchgear can be used.

When a signal is received from the detector, an electromechanical device is triggered, the rod is activated and breaks the glass flask of the constipation. The gas fills the room and extinguishes the fire. If there are no detectors, then the constipation flask itself is triggered. It is destroyed when the temperature in the room reaches 68˚ and the module also works.

Such installations are used to extinguish electrical switchboards, server rooms, book storages, generator, painting areas and other premises where people are not constantly located.

MGP 50 100 module

The gas fire extinguishing module MGP 50 100 is produced with a cylinder capacity from 60 to 100 liters. Freon 125 or 227ea, freon 23, carbon dioxide, argon, nitrogen or gas mixtures are used as a fire extinguishing gas in the module, forming a filler that displaces oxygen from the area surrounding the combustion source. The use of one or another gas is determined by the characteristics of the protected object.

Cylindrical cylinders of the module are installed in a horizontal or vertical position. They can be connected to gas pipelines and an automatic gas fire extinguishing system, in this case, serves several adjacent premises, united by one fire alarm system. The module is opened using a pneumatic or electromechanical release system.

One refueling of fire extinguishing modules remains operational for 10 years, then verification and refilling is required. After triggering, the module is also recharged. For 25 years, which is the life of one module, it can be refueled up to 10 times. In the battery of modules of the MGP type, cylinders with electric start and pneumatic start are installed simultaneously, operating in parallel.
Modules work in a similar way:

  • MGP 50 80;
  • IHL 60 60;
  • MGP 60 60 24;
  • IHL 16 100;
  • IHL 35 60.
They differ in the capacity of the cylinders and, in some cases, the type of locking devices.

Gas extinguishing module LPG 145

To extinguish a fire with the help of freons of various modifications, a modular battery system is used, the element of which is the LPG 145 module, developed and manufactured in Spain. Stainless steel cylinders from 13.4 to 100 liters are equipped with solenoid valves with electric, pneumatic or manual actuation.

LPG gas extinguishing modules can be used both individually and as part of a battery. In the latter case, the first - the control cylinder is connected to the fire alarm system by electrical wires and is configured to trigger an electric or manual opening type. The remaining modules are driven by a pneumatic actuator using the gas pipeline, from the pressure of the freon of the first cylinder. The response time of such a system is very low.
