My Jaguar has problems with the radio: (When I turn on the disk, the volume level starts to "jump" - it either increases by itself, then decreases ... When you listen to the radio, this does not happen. In other cars, the same CDs are played normally. Already two auto electricians with it was fiddled with and could not be cured. The radio tape recorder is factory, native.I wonder if anyone else has such a problem?

Review of the Jaguar X-Type 2.0 D left: Max from Warsaw

in August bought a cat with a 2.0 diesel on the mechanics, now (January) moved to 2.2 diesel. Clockwork machine, it must be noted for the sake of justice that before I rode an automatic only on Peugeot and then on 107, but here, compared with the mechanics, I had very pleasant impressions. The engine spins up to 2,000 (diesel) and absolutely imperceptibly shifts to another gear, and you don’t feel it on the go, only the tachometer needle flinches for a split second. In general, very satisfied. Among the shortcomings, I note the increased noise level in the cabin from winter tires. Diesel is not audible, but the sounds from the road from the wheel arches are very noticeable.

Review of the Jaguar X-Type 2.2 D left: Alexander from St. Petersburg

This machine is for connoisseurs of aesthetics. So far I have run 25000. The problems were only with the computer - the engine malfunction "shone" and only at long distances (more than 200 km of continuous driving). Before that, I went to the Japanese, I won’t do it anymore. Yag is a machine for the pleasure of the driver. Japs are remote controlled tanks (although very high quality and reliable). This score is in terms of driving experience.

The jaguar has a major flaw - after this car, you won’t get into the salon of another. Diesel on the 5th outside the city in areas without traffic lights at a speed of 80 km / h consumes 4 liters of diesel fuel. An average of 6 liters. In the city on the first all the time and in traffic jams more than 8 liters does not eat. The car is heavy and behaves with dignity. This car is not for racing, although in many ways it will not yield to others. ..full text of the Jaguar X-Type 2.0 TD review

Review of the Jaguar X-Type 2.0 TD left: Vitaly from Novosibirsk

General information about the model

X− Type is a luxury D-class car from the British company Jaguar, built on the Ford Mondeo platform. Produced in sedan and station wagon. The first all-wheel drive car in the history of the company. A little later, a front-wheel drive modification appeared, which greatly shocked the true fans of the classic rear-wheel drive Jaguars. The car was produced at a factory in the English county of Merseyside, where the Ford Escort used to be assembled. The company spent more than $400 million redesigning the equipment. New body and interior assembly lines were built, spray booths and the conveyors themselves were updated. To transport products abroad, a separate railway line was connected to the plant, along which about 90% of the cars produced were transported. All plant personnel received additional training. On average, each specialist listened to 360 hours of lectures.

In 1999, the board of directors of Ford Motor Co, in order to save the British company from bankruptcy, instructed Jaguar managing director Jonathan Browning to develop and put into production a new business class sedan. The project was codenamed X400. The team of the English company had to develop a completely new car that succinctly fits into the Jaguar style, with excellent dynamics, a high level of comfort, good build quality and, at the same time, an attractive price. It is worth noting that the last compact sedan in the English family, the Jaguar Mark 1, was developed in 1955.

To reduce the cost of production, when creating a car, they used the existing platform from the third generation Ford Mondeo. To remake it for an all-wheel drive model, and even with a transverse power unit, the engineers had to conjure a lot on it.

And now, two years later, in February 2001, at the Geneva Motor Show X− Type was first introduced to the general public. The presentation of the new model became the highlight of the entire exhibition. Tests carried out by journalists confirmed to the public that, despite its size, this is still a real Jaguar. Recognizable features of the body, powerful engines, luxury in the cabin and permanent four-wheel drive impressed the visitors of the showroom.

In 2003, the car underwent a light restyling. The updated model received a new 2.0 liter Ford Duratorq turbocharged diesel engine with 130 hp. In addition, front-wheel drive modifications of the X − Type appeared on sale, and in 2004 the X − Type Estate station wagon saw the light of day. The model was in good demand. Despite this, having undergone minor changes in 2005 and 2008, the Jaguar still had to retire. On July 15, 2009, due to Ford's financial problems, the concern's management announced the cessation of production of the X-Type.

Technical features and characteristics

Most often on Russian roads there are instances with a 2.5 liter V6 engine. The engine is quite high-torque - the variable length of the intake manifold allows you to provide maximum torque in the range from 2500 to 6000 rpm. The collapse of the cylinders in 60 ° extinguishes almost all vibrations during the operation of the power unit. Also, cars with a 2.1-liter diesel engine from Ford that appeared later were in good demand. An interesting fact: when idling, this motor emits a purr similar to the purr of a cat. The company's specialists claim that their minders worked for a very long time and specifically reconfigured the intake system for such a thoroughbred sound.

Gearboxes - Ford 5-speed manual and Japanese automatic. Mechanical boxes are distinguished by reliability and unpretentiousness, which cannot be said about the “automatic” cars of the first two or three years of production. Jaguar even ran a recall campaign to replace the automatic transmission. They often burned clutches and switched gears incorrectly. Four-wheel drive is built according to the classical scheme, where 60% of the torque falls on the rear axle, and 40% on the front. When the wheels slip, with the help of sensors, the torque is redistributed to the axle with a high coefficient of adhesion.

The body rigidity of the X-Type is almost 30% higher than the previous leader - the BMW 3 Series. Properly designed suspension provides the car with good handling and the absence of unnecessary vibration and noise. The front is a reliable MacPherson strut on double wishbones, the rear is a fully independent multi-link system, assembled, like the front one, on a subframe. There were minor comments on the squeaks in the rear suspension, but the shortcoming was quickly eliminated by replacing a pair of silent blocks. On cars of the Sport version, a reconfigured front and rear suspension, larger wheels, sports seats are installed.

The interior of the car is quite comfortable. Real wood inserts and leather upholstery do not fade over time. Dashboard plastic is of high quality. The ergonomics of the driver's seat is well thought out. There is plenty of room in the front, but it's cramped in the back. The three of us are almost impossible to sit. And landing on the second row of seats is difficult. The blowing of the windshield causes criticism - frost forms on its upper part, which cannot be removed even by turning on the stove at maximum power.

British engineers paid great attention to the safety of the car. All possible accident scenarios were worked out. Even as standard, the car has eight airbags. Also, the database already has ABS with anti-skid and anti-skid systems, electrically heated mirrors, power windows and mirrors, an audio system, 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and fog lights.

Exploitation

As a rule, the operation of the car in difficult conditions entails additional costs. When using low-quality fuel containing a large amount of sulfur, you will have to change spark plugs every 20-30 thousand kilometers - the procedure is not cheap, since for this you need to remove the intake manifold.

Approximately every 50,000 km, it will be necessary to clean the injection system nozzles from various deposits. Catalysts (there are two of them in X) also rarely travel more than 90 thousand km - their replacement will cost a pretty penny.

The suspension on the car is quite hardy: even the struts and bushings of the stabilizers go without problems for 30-40 thousand kilometers. Most often, rubber suspension elements, such as silent blocks of levers, require replacement. But brake pads rarely go more than 35,000 km.

The body of the model is strong, galvanized. But you can often see instances with paint flying off on the rear wheel arches - a consequence of the impact of anti-icing reagents that our roads are so generously sprinkled with. But the rust on the body is most likely associated with poor-quality body repairs.

The main disadvantage of the car is its low liquidity in the secondary market. There is even a joke that the fastest way to sell a Jaguar is to insure it and set it on fire.

In January 2011, the company's management announced its intention to release a successor to the X-Type in 2014.

With a triple body, the X-Type is instantly identifiable in the current flow, standing out sharply against the background of fashionable and current models. It doesn't make it last. In terms of the number of folded heads, the baby Jaguar is far from older brothers, but the public definitely has an interest in the gracefully flanking sedan. Few of his contemporary competitors can boast of this.

Soberly speaking, the choice of whom to face the X-Type was small. Flirting with the mass buyer, the British decided to rely on time-tested solutions. Not daring to exploit the exterior theme set by the S-Type, they followed the path beaten by the Germans by adapting the exterior of flagship sedans to a compact format.

Owners of classic XJs can wince as they please at the sight of these small round eyes, lamenting the inappropriateness of a mascot cat on the hood of an illegitimate offspring of a noble family. The "big-eyed" style, a tribute to the exteriors of the great Jeff Lawson, which have become synonymous with aristocracy and nobility, successfully suited the Mondeo relative.

Inside

Thoroughbred appearance is echoed by a beige interior generously decorated with wood. Metal rims flicker on an almost vertical high instrument panel, an animal muzzle grins from the steering wheel, an automatic machine with a pear-shaped knob walks along a proprietary J-shaped slot - at first glance, the difference with the older XJ is only in the amount of space surrounding you. Those who have seen the interiors of flagship sedans only in pictures will not notice the catch.

But it feels different to the touch, and the more I look around, the more I realize that I am in a well-made, but still inexpensive, Jaguar XJ-themed scenery. Genuine leather was found only on the steering wheel, on the seats and doors - its eco-substitute, and everything else is just light plastic. Finishing with the skins of innocently killed cows was an additional charge, as were the rear power windows and the “automatic”. Can you imagine an aristocratic "British" with a velor interior, "on a stick" and with "oars"? Wood, by the way, is also not natural.

Ford got greedy or Jaguar saved - it doesn't matter. The X-Type in the second-ranking configuration is not much inferior to the initial versions of the German colleagues, who likewise do not disdain eco-leather and plastic wood. For a surcharge, the interior of the British could be ennobled just as well as the S-Type. Here, at least, an optional multimedia screen is requested - an expensive, but effective way to clean the center console from buttons made of cheap black plastic.

Ergonomics obviously did not save. No high society eccentricities were found in the logic of the buttons. Basic chairs with electric only cushion height adjustment perfectly combine a comfortable-imposing landing with tenacity of hugs. It will also be convenient for rear passengers: the sloping sofa bed is conducive to long trips. But only two people will be comfortable and no taller than average. Alas, there is no room for the legs and head of tall individuals, and you had to pay extra for the central armrest. But the trunk, visually small, is actually able to take as much as 450 liters of something.

Engine

V6 2.1 l., 156 hp

The second Ford Mondeo is a strong middle peasant and one of the bestsellers of the European middle class. But it was precisely for the relationship with him that the X-Type was regularly trolled. The excuse that no more than 20% of Ford parts were used in the design did not always help. Most of all fell on the initial versions. Front-wheel drive Jaguar - where is the aristocracy? But the engine, albeit 2.1 liters, but the V 6 is not like the four cylinders of the base engines of competitors. And in terms of forces / Newtons (156 hp / 196 Nm) it’s not an outsider: it’s worth looking at, say, the characteristics of a two-liter E46. And front-wheel drive never got in the way of Audi making good cash on simple A4 trim levels.

Excuses, excuses, really what? Listening to the whisper of the V6, you think about the relationship of the engine with the Ford Duratec in the last place. The soundtrack of the motor to a large extent forms the impressions of the accelerating dynamics, the passport data of which (more than 10 seconds to hundreds) is better to keep silent in a decent society. The lion's share of traction is available from idle, so the X-Type leaves the place confidently, no more. But cat sedans are not used to annealing from a traffic light, this is not a master's business.

Transmission

Automatic transmission Jatco, 5 steps

Acceleration is smooth, almost seamless. You won’t guess about the work of the Japanese Jatco automatic machine, gently going through its five steps, without looking at the tachometer needle. The sport mode regularly keeps the increased speed, not falling below 2,000 rpm and delaying the switch, but the behavior of the X-Type does not fundamentally change. Character! Therefore, there is no need to regret the absence of a manual gear selection mode. The driver only has the option to limit the number of steps to four, three or two.

Jaguar is always a story not only about design and pieces of wood in the cabin. It is enough to taste just once how insinuatingly the English sedan spreads along the road, unquestioningly obeying the will of the owner, gently working out the bumps and enveloping from head to toe with an inimitable mixture of comfort and sport - and this will never be forgotten. X-Type tries as best he can not to disgrace the honor of the family. The ride is comfortable, the suspension is always ready for road troubles. Even greater elasticity can be expected from the Sport package, but even there it is up to the rigidity of German counterparts - as from London to Berlin.

The suspension is built according to the classical scheme. Front - McPherson struts, rear - multi-link. You should not expect excitement from rear-wheel drive relatives, BMW and Mercedes are also from another league, but Jaguar will definitely not be a whipping boy among other near-premium front-wheel drive vehicles, including Alfa Romeo, Saab and Volvo. Despite some steering aloofness and soft, even supple brakes, the X-Type manages to turn corners with precision, a joy to drive, and brake confidently where it's needed. Give up on a traditional English picnic - no problem. With a clearance of 170 mm by today's standards, the baby-Jag is almost a crossover. Just do not try, returning after dark, to exceed the speed limit. At night, the "kitten" is blind - the dipped beam of small headlights, imitating the XJ, is frankly weak.

Jaguar X Type
Fuel consumption per 100 km

In contrast to the composure of competitors with their harsh chassis, the Jaguar offers softness and smoothness of habits, in no case turning into rolliness. Flanking the X-Type in the flow in a relaxed manner is a special pleasure. Power and acceleration in such scenery and silence (noise isolation is at a very high level here) are not of decisive importance. It's fun to watch how a plastic imitation of a real English living room makes you a true gentleman on the road.

Alas, there were fewer fans of English classics at a reasonable price than expected. Sales of the X-Type did not reach the planned level, and now it is not customary to commemorate the younger "kitten" with a kind word. So be it - the interested glances of others and the laudatory memories of the former owners speak for themselves.

Purchase History

Like many lovers of aristocratic technology, Eugene has always been crazy about the classic forms of the Jaguar XJ X308. Squat silhouette, big-eyed optics - but the expediency of buying such a car as the main vehicle, and even with a limited budget, gave away unhealthy adventurism. The slightly more compact S-type was dropped for aesthetic reasons, so only the youngest X-Type remained from the feline family.

The search for a worthy copy took six months - and finally, in Moscow, an announcement appeared for the sale of the pre-styling X-Type 2007 in raspberry color with a beige interior and a mileage of 84,000 km. Wealthy owners were selling the Jaguar, which had become unnecessary, once bought by their son as the first car. Rushing to Moscow next weekend, Eugene was fascinated by the stylish "British", sparkling with a body polished to a shine. The owners did not hide the fact of the presence of several accidents, which, however, did not affect the power structure of the body, but made a good discount. For 390,000 rubles, Eugene became the third owner of an English sedan.

Repair

Misfiring and jerking during smooth acceleration is one of the trademark sores of the younger X-Type engine. What only Eugene did not try. The throttle, fuel pump, ignition coils, spark plugs, intake manifold gaskets, absolute pressure sensor were replaced, nozzles were washed ... Not at once, but more than 100,000 rubles were spent to eliminate this problem. The issue has not been finally resolved so far, the only remaining option is to replace the wires with ignition coils.

Leaving the service, where the catalysts were removed for the Jaguar, Evgeny was faced with the fact that the reverse gear stopped turning on the X-Type. A break in the brake band led to the repair of the box and expenses in the region of 60,000 rubles. Until now, the antifreeze leak has not been eliminated - replacing the expansion tank has not brought results.

The suspension is strong enough. So far, Eugene has only encountered the replacement of bushings and stabilizer struts, shock absorber anthers and hub bearings.

Exploitation

In two years of ownership, Eugene increased the mileage of the X-Type to 130,000 km. He does not regret his choice at all.

Expenses

  • regular maintenance with oil change (6 liters Castrol 5 W-30) and filters every 10,000 km - 4,000 rubles
  • gasoline - AI-95

The notorious kinship with the Mondeo does not always help when choosing spare parts. For example, a generator marked Jaguar costs 40,000 rubles, and a similar Ford one can be bought four times cheaper. The reverse example is the timing belt tensioner pulley: only the original with a price of around 10,000 rubles.

Plans

The main task for the future is to eliminate the already indicated misfires and antifreeze leaks. After solving technical problems, Eugene wants to update the appearance of the X-Type, touching up the front bumper from chips and covering the body with liquid glass.

Model history

The project for an affordable Jaguar, codenamed X400, came about while the Coventry-based manufacturer was part of Ford's premium division of the Premier Automotive Group. The second-generation Ford Mondeo platform was taken as the basis for the British competitor of the BMW and Mercedes C-class, on which the interior and body, stylized as the flagship XJ, were hoisted. Three years later, the Sportwagon station wagon made up the company released in 2001.

Pictured: Jaguar XJ "1994–2003

At first, only six-cylinder all-wheel drive X-Types with 2.5 (194 hp) and 3.0 (231 hp) engines were available, combined with a five-speed "mechanics" or "automatic". In 2003, economical front-wheel drive versions debuted: a petrol V 6 2.1 (156 hp) and a pair of diesels (2.0 - 128 hp and 2.2 - 152 hp) - for the first time on Jaguar. In 2005, the X-Type received a minor update. Such cars are primarily distinguished by a modified radiator grille and a new steering wheel.

A large-scale restyling in 2007 slightly refreshed the ageless appearance, added new options and finishes, and the older diesel engine was able to be equipped with a six-speed automatic. Alas, the planned sales volumes of the X-Type never reached, so it was discontinued in 2009.

Jaguar X Type, 2007

I've owned X for 3 years. I hear a lot of questions: it’s expensive to maintain, spare parts are expensive and you can’t find them ... I’ll just say one thing: if you want, then everything is fine. I do maintenance and scheduled repairs (I didn’t have to do another one) in a special service for Jaguars, I take spare parts there. The content is no more expensive than the same Behi 5, well, or Teany. Dynamics for 2.1 quite. Consumption in the city is 14-16 liters, how to drive, on the highway 8l. It keeps excellent at speed, like you go on rails, only much quieter.))) The interior is very comfortable, the seats are generally super (I have sports in front, orig jaguars). In general, very pleased with the machine.

Jaguar X Type, 2008

Chose from Toyota and Foltz until a ride on the Jaguar. Fell in love without memory. Excellent dynamics. Excellent handling. Low fuel consumption and no crap. Very comfortable executive car at an affordable price. Pros: There is a level in the car that is not present in the gray mass that inhabits our roads ... Cons: Virtually none. Low profile tires only, but beauty requires sacrifice! I advise everything. And I'm selling it only because I need a bigger car for work - Vito, for example.

The Jaguar specialists were not an easy task. To create a new compact sedan that harmoniously fits into the style of the brand, with excellent dynamics, impeccable comfort, decent build quality and an attractive price. Surprisingly, the British coped with all the tasks. Just two years after the company's board of directors gave the X400 project the green light, the Jaguar X-Type debuted at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show.

The X-Type is produced by a plant in the English county of Merseyside, where the Ford Escort was previously assembled. The company has invested over $400 million in new body assembly and trim lines, a 70% upgrade of spray booth equipment, and a press production computer system. To ensure that up to 90 percent of exported X-Types leave the factory by train, a railway line has been connected to it. Great attention was also paid to staff training. On average, each worker spent 350 hours on advanced training courses.

X-Type sedans and X-Type Estate wagons are Jaguar's most produced car ever.

The appearance of the X-Type is explained by the growing popularity of luxury sedans of class D (Mercedes C-class, BMW 3 series, Audi A4), which are becoming more equipped and technically advanced and more and more expensive, approaching the higher class - E.

In general, the X-Type is an atypical Jaguar. And it's not just the size. This is the first all-wheel drive model of the brand, and even with a transverse power unit. Plus kinship with Ford - the latest generation Mondeo platform is used.

Modern attractive design was created in the best traditions of the company. The appearance of X-Tapy combines the features of three models of the company. I borrowed the nose from the XJ, the profile and glazing of the S-Type, the characteristic stern and the steep hips of the rear wings of the XK8. Aggressive design, expensive interior, excellent handling and comfort are the main components of success.

X-Type has four driving wheels! The 4x4 formula undoubtedly has its advantages. There are more and more fans of this scheme in the world every day, and besides, buyers (in any case, the price list says so) will not have to pay extra for all-wheel drive. Fans of fast driving, if they are upset, then not too much, because 60 percent of the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels.

The creators of the car paid the closest attention to the torsional rigidity of the body. As the designers modestly note, the body rigidity of the X-Type is 30 percent higher than that of the former leader of the BMW 3 Series.

Suspension. Front - time-tested "MacPherson" on double wishbones. Behind is a fully independent multi-link, assembled, by the way, like the front, on a stretcher. Such a scheme promises not only confident cornering, but also a significant reduction in noise and vibration levels.

The sports chassis is accompanied by temperamental engines. Even the base X-Type is equipped with a 2.5-liter V-six. Although the motor is not new (it is based on the S-Type power unit), it is pleasant in every way. Quite convincing power of 194 liters. with. combined with excellent torque of 24.9 kgf.m. Variable intake manifold length allows the engine to remove 90% of thrust from 2500 to 6000 rpm. This ensures smooth acceleration in almost any gear. And the so-called "natural" camber of 60 degrees should, in theory, ensure smooth operation without strong vibration. The 231 horsepower of the more powerful 3.0-liter V-six is more than BMW and Lexus units give out.

In addition, a Sport version is available with both engines. Its main difference is a reconfigured suspension, larger wheels, sports seats and a complete lack of chrome decor.

The X-Type is equipped with Ford's manual and Japanese automatic transmissions.

The brainchild of Jaguar has always been distinguished by rich interior trim. Maximum wood and leather, and as standard. The interior is purely English, “Jaguar”: an almost vertical high dashboard with wood inserts, longitudinal retracts on the seats, beautiful doors with intricate pockets and speaker grills with chrome rims. Everything is done with taste and a certain amount of chic.

The steering column is adjustable in two planes. There are plenty of adjustments. In addition to the obligatory length and angle of the backrest, you can change the height of the front and back parts of the pillow (separately), plus the pumping of the lumbar support. But there is no memory for settings. Using the air conditioner is easy - thanks to clear buttons and a large information display. Interior lighting is separate.

Brakes, noise and vibration isolation also deserve only kind words. There are no extraneous sounds - neither from the suspension, nor from interior elements, in the cabin.

Particular attention was paid to safety. Jaguar experts spent more than 175,000 hours on computer processing of X-type safety assessment data. From the development of the concept to the moment the car left the production line, numerous studies were carried out, during which the safety of the car was evaluated in various collision scenarios. The analysis made it possible to understand in detail and optimize the interaction of the body structure, transmission, chassis, interior trim parts and passive safety devices. Bottom line: all components work as a single system, ensuring maximum safety for the driver and passengers. The passive safety systems installed on the X-Type include dual airbags with a sophisticated sensor system as standard.

Jaguar X-type is a powerful and fast beast that you will tame.
