Metal-plastic windows comparison. Which profile for plastic windows is better? If the profile is wider, then it is more reliable and warmer

Plastic windows firmly occupy a leading position. They are distinguished by a high level of heat and sound insulation, and also provide the opportunity to choose fittings, window opening method and profile color. You can also choose a double-glazed window with required quantity cameras But few people think that it is the window profile that ensures the strength and durability of the entire structure. In the article we will compare profiles with different characteristics and manufacturers. plastic windows.

General information about the profile of plastic windows

On average, the profile thickness of plastic windows varies from 58 mm to 86 mm, but some companies produce products up to 127 mm wide.

Its interior is hollow, but is divided by bridges, creating several air chambers. A special technical calculation determines their dimensions and location. The wider the profile, the greater the number of chambers in it, increasing the heat-saving properties. Another characteristic of the profile system is the filling width, which determines what type of double-glazed windows can be installed in the profile. They come in single- or double-chamber types, the width of the glass in a standard double-glazed window is 4 mm (grade M1).

Each cavity has its own purpose:

  • for water drainage;
  • fastening accessories;
  • responsible for strength, etc.

The color of the profile can be varied; painting is applied in several ways:

  • coextrusion method - multilayer films create a kind of barrier that allows the product to withstand dynamic loads without damage;

  • lamination - with imitation texture, for example, marble or wood;
  • monochromatic coloring.

Characteristics of PVC profiles for plastic windows

Material

  • This product is made from a type of plastic - white polyvinyl chloride.
  • The material is highly resistant to chemical attack by alkalis, solvents, acids and mineral oils.
  • It is harmless to humans and the environment.

  • Due to its distinctive properties, polyvinyl chloride makes it possible to produce frames for double-glazed windows not only in rectangular or square shapes, but also in the form of arches, triangles, circles, and so on. Thus, giving absolutely any simple or complex configuration to the window, allowing even the most unconventional idea designers and architects.

Design

The inner part of the plastic profile body is divided by longitudinal partitions, in turn they form cavities (air chambers). The minimum number of chambers in a profile is 3, the maximum is 8. The number of chambers determines the degree of thermal insulation and sound absorption of the window; the more air cavities, the higher these indicators. It should be noted right away that 3- and 5-chamber profiles are popular.

Reinforcement

To provide rigidity, the profile is additionally reinforced. Metal carcass provides the necessary structural strength and reliability during operation of the window. Galvanized steel is used to reinforce the profile, so it does not deform due to temperature changes or other environmental influences.

  • L-shaped type of reinforcement - a metal insert is installed along two walls;
  • U-shaped type of reinforcement, where metal strengthens three walls;
  • Closed type of reinforcement - a metal insert is located along four walls.

For window structures that have double-glazed windows up to 1900 mm in height, a U-shaped reinforced profile is suitable. However, for plastic windows of large dimensions, for example, for a loggia or balcony, a profile with closed reinforcement is required.

Profile class

The thickness of the profile walls determines whether it belongs to a certain class:

  • Class A - the thickness of the profile walls must be at least 3 mm;
  • Class B - profile where the wall thickness is from 2.5 mm;
  • Class C - non-standardized wall thickness.

As a result, the width of the profile of plastic windows directly depends on its class. The higher it is, the correspondingly wider the profile.

You can also compare the characteristics of plastic window profiles using the tables below.

Profiles of the German company KBE

It is believed that German profiles of plastic windows are superior to the products of other manufacturers in terms of quality, whiteness of color, and technical characteristics. They do not lose their properties even over a long service life and can withstand almost any dynamic loads and significant temperature changes (from -50°C to +50°C).

The KBE company produces and supplies 2 types of the most popular profiles: KBE Etalon and KBE Expert.

KBE Etalon - three-chamber profile

  • The installation width is 58 mm;
  • width of front walls - 3 mm;
  • the thickness of the glass unit can be up to 34 mm;
  • 3 chambers in the frame, sashes, impost (horizontal and vertical window bars);
  • can be used in harsh conditions (-60°C);
  • service life - 40 years;

Advantages:

  • with a profile width of 58 mm, it has 3 air chambers, their size and optimal position provide heat transfer resistance. Such windows have a high degree of tightness, which exceeds the existing GOST requirements by 5 (!) times, which guarantees the complete absence of dust and drafts in the room;
  • two sealed sealing gaskets provide excellent sound insulation (up to 46 dB). The profile is additionally equipped with horizontal lintels, thereby increasing the strength of the lock when closing the window;
  • the KBE profile has stiffening ribs that provide additional strength window design. Also, special stops can increase rigidity, with the help of which the precise location of the reinforcing metal insert is achieved.

KBE Expert - five-chamber profile

  • The 13 mm groove of the profile allows you to install anti-burglary fittings, thereby ensuring the security of the room;
  • the KBE Expert profile has additional horizontal jumpers, thanks to which the handles and hinges will be securely fastened;
  • during installation installation seam it turns out wider by about 20%, in turn allowing for additional insulation.

Estimated cost of windows from KBE profile

An important factor when choosing a particular double-glazed window is its price. It is often decisive, but high quality German window profiles cannot be cheap. Below is the approximate market value in Russia.

  • On average, a single-chamber double-hung window with dimensions of 140x130 cm, in which one sash is fixed and the other is tilt-and-turn, will cost:
    • from a 58 mm profile from RUB 7,500,
    • from 70 mm - from 10,000 rub.

  • The price of a two-chamber three-leaf window measuring 140x203 cm, in which the first sash is rotary, the central one is blind, and the third is tilt-and-turn, will range from:
    • from 58 mm profile 13,000 rubles;
    • from 70 mm 14500 rub. and higher.

  • When purchasing a balcony block with an opening door measuring 210x67 cm and a blind window - 140x136 cm, you will have to pay at least:
    • from a 58 mm profile 11,000 rubles;
    • from 70 mm from 13,000 rub.

What to look for when choosing a plastic profile with double-glazed windows

In order to determine what profile thickness is needed, you should have basic knowledge about the double-glazed window, because up to 70% of heat losses occur through it.

This transparent element consists of 2 or more glasses that are tightly connected to the frame. A chamber (air gap) is formed between them, filled with rarefied air or an inert gas, such as argon or krypton. This kind of filling is used in the production of energy-saving double-glazed windows.

A single-chamber double-glazed window is a design of 2 glasses of 4 mm each and an air gap of 16 mm, in abbreviated form it is designated 4-16-4. Thus, its installation width is 24 mm. The design, equal to 36 mm, is obtained from a two-chamber double-glazed window, which consists of 3 glasses of 4 mm each and 2 layers of 10 mm each - 4-10-4-10-4.

Consequently, an appropriate profile is selected for the required double-glazed window. For example, the optimal solution for an ordinary apartment or house would be a 5-chamber profile with a 70 mm installation width and a 30 mm double-glazed unit, where a heat-reflecting coating should be applied to one glass.

If the windows face the north side and there is a busy road nearby, then the following option is suitable: a 5-chamber profile with a depth of 86 mm, complemented by a 32 mm double-glazed window with a protective noise-insulating film.

When a balcony (loggia) is combined with an adjacent room or it is planned to make a small office (rest room) out of it, then the profile should be 5-chamber with an installation depth of 86 mm, and the double-glazed window should be energy-saving, two-chamber with a width of no less than 40 mm.

For simple insulation of a balcony, a 60 mm 3-chamber profile and a 30 mm single-chamber double-glazed window are suitable.

But it’s not enough just to choose the optimal PVC profile and double-glazed window. It is equally important to entrust the installation of the finished window to professionals. Otherwise, no matter how expensive the design, poor-quality installation will cancel all its high characteristics.

A window profile is a frame that holds a glass unit. Different types of window profiles differ in the material of manufacture and internal structure. Let us consider in detail the differences and advantages of profile structures, their quality, cost and performance characteristics.

What types of windows are there?

Modern window profiles for double-glazed windows are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), wood or metal (aluminum profile). Each of the above materials has its own advantages, which determine its popularity and cost.

Wooden window profile

Wooden frames represent the most expensive, prestigious design window opening. Natural wood requires long-term drying, thorough impregnation with an antiseptic and protection from moisture. Therefore, the cost of a wooden window is an order of magnitude higher than a plastic profile. If the wood is not dried enough or treated incorrectly, expensive windows can collapse within a year of their installation.

The look of natural wood creates a prestigious design and attractive aesthetics. At quality training wood is quite durable and reliable. Best tree for the manufacture of window profiles - oak, larch, alder and pine wood are more available.

Let's summarize the advantages of wooden profiles:

  • aesthetics and prestige;
  • natural environmentally friendly material;
  • good heat capacity.

Flaws:

  • Possibility of warping, swelling, cracking and other types of damage;
  • Expensive;
  • High professionalism of the master manufacturer is required.

An option for using wood for double glazed windows is wood-aluminum profile. In it, the wooden material is covered on the outside with metal plates. From the inside, on the living side, the frame shows natural wood; on the outside, the frame is protected from moisture by metal.

Aluminum profile

Aluminum window profiles are made with a small number of chambers (two or three). Metal itself is an insufficient heat insulator, which is why metal windows are cold. They are mainly used for glazing large retail areas, airports, but also balconies and loggias. "Warm" metal windows are equipped with a thermal liner that increases heat capacity profile design. The cost of such windows is significantly higher than “cold” ones.

A metal window is characterized by the following advantages:

  • strength;
  • low flammability;
  • durability.

Flaws:

  • low heat capacity (for “cold” profiles);
  • high cost (applies to “warm” structures).

Two main types of aluminum alloy profiles are in demand in various buildings. “Cold” aluminum profile is used where an inexpensive frame is needed, good strength, without special requirements to retain heat. The “warm” expensive profile is installed in heated rooms for durable operation in cold winter conditions.

PVC profile

PVC profile is called a plastic window. Its characteristics:

  • high thermal insulation;
  • moisture resistance;
  • various designs (thanks to gluing laminated film).

Thermal insulation properties are ensured by the presence of hollow chambers inside. Due to the resistance of plastic to atmospheric precipitation, it does not absorb moisture, does not swell, does not rot or crack.

PVC has some disadvantages:

  • flammability (characteristic of most plastics);
  • The more cameras, the greater the weight of the structure, the higher the requirements for window installation.

Due to its affordable cost, PVC profiles have become the most popular material for the manufacture of double-glazed windows. Dozens of different manufacturers produce PVC. Their profiles differ in the number of chambers and the thickness of the plastic wall. Let's consider what characteristics are used to evaluate PVC profiles.

Characteristics of PVC window profile

And finally: accessories

Fittings are a set of metal parts that provide a movable connection of various elements in the overall structure of the window. The durability of the window product depends on the quality of the fittings.. It is important to know that famous brand manufacturers have cheap lines of lower quality fittings for Eastern European countries.

Types of window fittings:

  • Tilt and turn (for opening the window and tilting the transom).
  • The lock and handle are a multifunctional design that locks the frame in any position using an internal axis.
  • Parallel-sliding (for retractable sashes).
  • Tilt-and-slide.
  • Vertical sliding.

In addition to fittings, the design of double-glazed windows uses. They provide the necessary insulation from noise and cold.

The selection of a window profile, its main characteristics and fittings is carried out in accordance with the required thermal capacity of the window and the price level for its manufacture. The quality of the profile and fittings determines the appearance of the double-glazed window and its performance characteristics: thermal insulation, sound absorption, strength and durability.

“Which window profiles are the best?” – a question asked by everyone who wants to finally install energy-saving windows in their home. However, despite the external similarity of all structures, inside all the profiles are completely different, some of which do not at all comply with SNiP RF and are not recommended for installation in residential premises. First of all, when choosing a window system, you need to pay attention to the number of chambers and the thermal resistance coefficient (the higher, the better). Next important parameter PVC windows have the possibility of being reinforced - this increases the load-bearing characteristics of the structure, helps to increase the service life of the system and its resistance to plastic deformation. To make it easier for the buyer to decide on a quality window system, this rating was compiled. So, TOP 10 best companies and models of PVC window profiles:

aluPlast

Aluplast opens a rating of window profiles by quality. The company provides a good range of technical solutions for window systems. The latest developments that increase the energy efficiency of structures are embodied in the AluPlast energeto series. The Energeto 8000 model has excellent thermal resistance when installing triple glazed windows - 1.27 m2*C/W. According to the manufacturer, if the structure is not reinforced with steel (this reduces the load-bearing capacity), its thermal conductivity is significantly reduced, reaching a thermal resistance coefficient of up to 1.67 m2*C/W.

Deceuninck

Deceuninck is ranked 9th in the ranking of PVC profiles. The Belgian company has been producing window blanks from polyvinyl chloride for about 40 years at production facilities located in Europe, Asia and North America. The flagship of all Deceuninck lines is the 84mm Eforte model. This system is recommended for installation even in the northern latitudes of Russia due to the high coefficient of thermal resistance - 1.1 m2*C/W. The service life of Eforte is 30-40 years, subject to a temperature range of -60 to +75 degrees Celsius.

Proplex

The Russian company Proplex takes 8th place in the ranking of window profiles in 2018. All Proplex products are manufactured in Russia, so prices for finished products from this profile are much lower than imported analogues. Proplex produces 5 different window systems: 2,3,4,5-chamber. For installation in dachas, loggias and non-residential premises, we recommend the two-chamber Proplex Outline - the cheapest design with a thermal resistance coefficient of only 55 m2 * C/W. A more reliable system recommended for installation in apartments and residential premises is the four-chamber Proplex Comfort with a thermal resistance of 0.8 m2*C/V, which fully satisfies the requirements of SNiP RF.

Kaleva

The seventh place in the ranking of PVC window profiles is occupied by the Kaleva brand. The company produces a dozen different models, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. The most inexpensive option with everything you need is Kaleva Standard - this is a four-chamber profile with the possibility of reinforcement with steel and a built-in double-glazed window filled with inert argon gas, which has very low thermal conductivity. The Kaleva Titan Plus five-chamber window system is the company’s most heat-saving and noise-reducing design. Feature of Titan Plus: in addition to the main two-chamber 40mm insulation package filled with argon, blinds and another external glass are built into the system - thus, this model provides a degree of insulation incomparable with other analogues, thanks to the insulation package with three independent air partitions, two of which are filled with argon.

Montblanc

Montblanc (pronounced MONBLAN) occupies a leading position in the 2018 ranking of plastic profiles for windows in terms of price-quality ratio. Mont Blanc is an Austrian company that has been producing low-cost, high-quality profiles for translucent structures for more than 15 years. Due to the opening of the Mont Blanc industrial plant in the Moscow region in 2001, the company gained wide popularity in Russia. The company produces several lines of window systems: Montblanc, Reachmont, Goodwin and ECP. All products have a guaranteed service life of 40 to 60 years, and an installation width of 58 to 70 mm, except for the eighty-millimeter Montblanc Grand with six air compartments. We recommend the four-chamber Montblanc Quadro system for installation with a thermal resistance coefficient of 0.8 C/W per m2 - this is a high indicator that meets the requirements of GOST and Building codes and rules in many regions of the Russian Federation.

Salamander

The TOP 5 rating of profiles for plastic windows in 2018 is opened by one of the most expensive brands in the rating. The company has three different systems in its product range: Salamnder 2d/Streamline/BlueEvolution. The most budget option is considered to be a three-chamber 2D with the possibility of reinforcing the internal chambers with steel. The wall thickness of Salamander 2D is: outer 3mm, rebated 2.5m, and inner 1mm - this ensures good indicator noise reduction (up to 46dB) and high energy efficiency class A+. This model is designed for installation of single-glazed windows. Salamander BlueEvolution – next model, recommended for installation in any region of Russia. BlueEvolution is the only profile available on the Russian market (meaning at a reasonable price) with a maximum width of the built-in double-glazed window - 60mm (if desired, you can install a three-chamber double-glazed window). Salander BlueEvolution is ideal for the continental climate of Russia: it protects from heavy rains, effectively maintains the temperature even at -40 degrees, and reliably resists drafts, thanks to the elastic rubber seal.

KBE

4th place in the ranking of PVC window profiles belongs to the German manufacturer KBE. The names of the KBE rulers are tritely simple and depend on the profile width: KBE 58/70/76/88. As anyone planning to replace windows should know, the wider the system, the more chambers it has, which means the heat-saving indicators of such a design are obviously high.

The optimal option for installation is the KBE76MD model - this is a six-chamber design made using greenline lead-free technology from recycled polyvinyl chloride. Recycling PVC allows you to “kill” two birds with one stone: recycle PVC waste and save on the cost of raw materials, which directly affects the retail price of the product.

The most important thing in greenline technology from KBE is complete safety physical and mechanical properties material, that is, primary processed raw materials are no different from recycled materials. The best product from KBE is considered to be the 88 mm KBE AD made using greenline technology: this model has an outer wall thickness of 3 mm and 6 independent air compartments inside with the possibility of aluminum reinforcement - all this provides an absolutely high level of thermal efficiency and noise reduction.

VEKA

The bronze medalist in the ranking of the best PVC window profiles goes to VEKA. VEKA offers 8 class A models with thickness outer wall 3mm. The most economical solution is VEKO Euroline: a design with three air chambers designed for insulation units up to 24 mm (usually two glasses - one chamber), the sashes and frames in which can be reinforced for greater reliability of the system.

The optimal solution in terms of price and quality for offices and apartments will be the energy-efficient A++ class VEKO Swingline series: 5 independent air chambers with an outer wall thickness of 3 mm will ensure warmth and comfort in the room even on harsh winter evenings. The most expensive and massive specimen is VEKO Alphaline. This model is equipped with six air compartments with a total width of 90mm - these are the most heat-saving windows from VEKO in which you can install double-glazed windows up to 50mm thick (3 glasses) and enjoy peace and comfort all year round.

WDS

WDS ranks second among the best profiles for plastic windows in 2018. The manufacturer has several product lines in its assortment, each of which differs in noise reduction coefficient, heat saving and the number of cameras: WDS 400/500, WDS 4/7/8 Series. The optimal price-quality ratio is the Class A 60mm WDS4 model, equipped with 4 independent air chambers and the possibility of aluminum reinforcement up to 1.5mm. For northern latitudes, it recommends installation of the WDS8 series: a six-chamber metal-plastic profile with the ability to install a two-chamber double-glazed window up to 44 wide - this model retains heat 2.5 times more efficiently than the WDS400/4Series.

Rehau

Rehau is the leader of the rating, the most best profile for plastic windows 2018. The company's product range consists of 7 types of profiles with different numbers of air chambers, design widths and levels of sound insulation. The Rehau Euro-design series is an affordable and high-quality three-chamber profile with a thickness of 60mm, so it is recommended for installation by those who do not want to overpay. For lovers of sound sleep, Rehau Intelio will be a real find: a five-chamber profile 86mm thick with a noise reduction coefficient of 36dB (without double-glazed windows).

In cold conditions climatic zones, 86 mm Rehau Geneo will help save up to 80% of heat: the six-chamber design ensures high tightness, maintains a colossal gap between the temperature amplitudes in the room and outside the window, and also creates reliable protection from drafts, thereby maintaining comfort and coziness in the room throughout the winter even at -60 degrees. According to the manufacturer, all Rehau products have a minimum service life of 40 years, and some models even 60 years.

Which profile of plastic windows is better and why? After all, the profile is the key to durability and quality metal-plastic windows. Even if at first glance the profile of PVC windows looks exactly the same, in practice everything turns out completely differently.

What's called high-quality profile? What characteristics should it have? What technologies are used in production? Before choosing a glazing profile, it makes sense to get answers to all these questions.

Each profile from which plastic windows are produced must be certified. The most significant certificate is the certificate RAL, it provides comprehensive information not only about the type of product, but also about the place of its production. In other words, a profile of the same brand, but made in perfect different enterprises does not always have such a certificate.

For example, distinguishing feature window manufacturer VEKA profile– this is the presence of a RAL certificate not only at the main German plant, but also at all subsidiaries, including Russian production bases in Moscow and Novosibirsk.

ISO9001:2000(quality management certificate) are received by productions that have a well-organized management system, which implies strict compliance with all economic, technological, and organizational requirements inherent in production in highly developed countries of the world.

Does wider mean warmer and more reliable?

Profile width of plastic windows is one of the main characteristics. Most window manufacturers promise us a few extra millimeters to the standard profile width in advertising campaigns, but is there really any benefit from these millimeters?

Most often on the window construction market you can find the following basic offers:

  1. 58mm "classic" profile
  2. 60mm profile (for site construction)
  3. 70-80 mm profile with increased installation width (for high-rise construction)
  4. 90mm profile

Width 58 millimeters is determined by the “classics” - wooden frames, which replaced plastic windows. Today, a 58 mm profile freely allows us to produce modern, warm window designs that satisfy the requirements of the vast majority of buyers living in a wide variety of climatic zones.

Please note: subject to correct production and installation, this window profile rightfully deserves to be called the best for any room.

70 millimeters- a proposal that first appeared in the distant 80s. This profile has higher sound-proofing and heat-insulating characteristics; it is revered among the residents of Russia.

90 millimeters– a product considered premium. This proposal appeared no more than five years ago. A profile of this width allows the use of double-glazed windows up to fifty millimeters thick, and today it is the unsurpassed leader among all window profiles with high energy-saving performance.

Of course, even 90 mm today is far from the limit. The Russian market today offers such profile systems, the width of which is 104, 124 mm. What does this give? If “classic” profiles allow you to install double-glazed windows with a width of no more than 32 mm, then, for example, 70 mm allows you to install a 42 mm double-glazed window, and a 90 mm profile allows you to install a 50 mm double-glazed window, and so on.

In many ways, the choice of window profile width depends on where it will be installed, for example, in a country house, in an office, in a vestibule door or front door store. Climatic conditions are also an important factor.

Number of cameras

When understanding the question of which profile of plastic windows is better, you should also pay attention to the number of cameras in the profile being evaluated.

Number of cameras in plastic profile is the second most important characteristic when choosing a window design. The first chamber is necessary for proper removal of condensate, the next is for the reinforcing metal liner, the third is necessary for high-quality fastening of the fittings elements, to create an additional layer of air for the purpose of high tightness of the window.

Thus, a standard metal-plastic profile must have at least three chambers for normal operation. Plastic window profile thickness completely determines the number of cameras in it. The 58 mm profile can have a maximum of three cameras, while the 70 mm profile can have four. The norm for a 90mm profile is six cameras.

It is worth noting that increasing the number of cameras with the same width of the window profile can only slightly change the characteristics of the entire structure. In order to increase heat-saving characteristics, it is recommended to choose a wider profile, not at all larger number partitions.

    The time has come when you need to make a choice of profile for glazing the balcony. There is a lot of scattered information on the Internet. The same article provides a full analysis of the features and recommendations for choosing different situations. She helped me decide. Double bag with an installation width of 70 millimeters, class A, manufactured by Veka.

    When choosing a profile for glazing a balcony, you should decide for yourself what result you want to achieve. If you just want to protect your balcony from precipitation and wind, increasing the temperature inside by 5-10 degrees, then choose the simplest 3-chamber profile with an installation width of 58-60 mm with regular glass or a single-chamber double-glazed window. If you plan to insulate a balcony, then you should choose a profile with a width of at least 70 mm and a double-glazed window.

    When we were choosing our windows, we chose Veka. I know there is triple glazing. In the office they told us about the size and number of cameras. Now I don’t remember how many there are. At first the sound insulation was good, then over time it became much worse. I don't know what this is connected with. Now we are going to glaze the balcony and have not yet chosen a profile. But I think we won’t take a very thick one. We don't need warmth on the balcony like at home.

    VRT had never thought about window profiles before, never considered their advantages and disadvantages, but in vain. IN old apartment They installed plastic windows at random, themselves, and as a result they did not provide any soundproofing or insulation. Afterwards, one acquaintance, seeing them, explained the features of the profiles. In the near future we will install others produced by Rehau.

    We were finally ready to paint our balcony. I would like to choose a reliable company and not overpay. Can you please recommend a good company for glazing balconies? We ourselves came across the Rassvet window company (okna-rassvet_ru). Maybe someone has already encountered this company and can leave a review about their work?
