Hello, father! Sorry for the details, but I can't describe it briefly. 1) My wife and I try to take communion every week. This is how the priest blessed us, whom we consider our spiritual father. We used to take communion once a month. Then we prepared, fasted for several days. When asked how to fast if one takes communion every Sunday, the priest replied that one should fast on Wednesday and Friday and keep the Eucharistic fast from 0000 hours. Our father is far away and it is impossible to go to him every Sunday, we go mainly on major holidays. Recently we were at the Liturgy in the temple, which is in a village near the dacha. And the day before on Saturday, my wife and I were in a cafe to unwind a little, since our daughter is hyperactive (she is 3 years old) and her wife gets very tired with her. I have been at work all day (sometimes up to 10 p.m., sometimes even on Saturdays), and my wife has no help.

In general, having arrived at the dacha, we left our daughter to my mother and left for a cafe. In the evening we arrived and prepared for Communion. True, when we take communion every week, we read the Canon of Penitence and the Follow-up to Holy Communion. The priest of that village parish said that a Christian should fast at least 2 days before Communion, that is, on Friday and Saturday. He not only did not allow us to take Communion, but he told us to think that it would not be a sin either for us or for him. We were embarrassed and did not come to the Chalice that day. I do not want to blame anyone in any way, I'm just trying to understand how to do it right. Behind long time I had a moment to relax a little and we took advantage of it. Shouldn't we have prepared for Communion? Maybe it's better to take communion once a month? 2) Is it possible to fast from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening and from Thursday evening, respectively (from 18:00 to 18:00), or is it strictly necessary from 00:00 to 24:00? 3) We want to go to the temple with the whole family (me, wife and daughter 3 years old). We used to take turns when we rarely took communion. It is impossible to defend the Liturgy with a small active child, and we are not even trying. And when my daughter begins to embarrass those around her during the Divine service, I go outside with her. Is it possible to receive communion in such a case? Or will it all come down to the monthly Communion again?

Evgeny

Eugene, I think that what your father said about communion is still advice, a wish, but not an order and not a dogma. Therefore, sometimes you can make an indulgence - that weekend with a cafe is just the perfect opportunity for this. And then you will have a rest - and again for spiritual feats. This thing is alive.
With regard to fasting, it is customary to fast either from 0 o'clock to 0 o'clock, or after reading the evening and morning prayers: read evening prayers, for example, on Tuesday - comes Lent Wednesday, read morning prayers on Thursday - you can break the fast.
If a girl is with you in the church, I think you are doing the right thing: you will have to be a little patient until she grows up, and now, due to her age, you can leave the church for a while, and at the same time partake of the Mysteries of Christ.

Save you Lord! At the end of the kathisma or the entire Psalter, there is a prayer of Ephraim the Syrian: "Lord and Master of my life ...". Is it necessary to read it? As far as I know, this prayer is read only in great post.

Andrei

Andrey, if there is no fasting, the prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian can be omitted, not read.

Hello! My mother recently died. She was sick for a long time, she had cancer. I don’t know how to cope with this, I’m completely unprepared for this ... The fact is that I have a small child, 2.5 years old. Approaching New Year, and here it is ... I just don’t know if it’s worth celebrating somehow? My daughter does not understand anything, I want her to have a holiday. But I don't know if I can.

Olga

Olga, yes, a child at 2.5 years old is hardly ready to face death and understand it, so try to make a holiday, this will also serve as a necessary distraction for you. Only, perhaps, not to celebrate the New Year - after all, fasting will be in the yard - but still the Nativity of Christ?

hegumen Nikon (Golovko)

Father, a relative of mine recently died, but, since he is very distant, I decided to restrict food for 9 days instead of a strictly 40-day fast. I found out about it only on the 4th day. The question is, would it be appropriate to fast on the ninth day, or, on the contrary, to remember by removing the restriction?

Andrei

Andrey, fasting is a good deed, and remembering with relatives by arranging a good treat is also a good deed. Act according to the circumstances. If relatives are ready to gather for a wake, then it is still better to be with them.

hegumen Nikon (Golovko)

Dear fathers, thank you very much for your work on the site! I contacted you myself and received an indifferent answer, which helped. And my question is this. Advent is approaching. Previous posts were given hard: there are health problems. How not to harm? How to choose the right measure of fasting so that it does not become an unbearable burden? And one more thing - I'm the only one in the family who fasts. It turns out not to save, but quite the opposite. Is it correct? After all, the point of fasting is also to share the surplus with those in need. Judge me, a sinful one. God bless you for help...

Svetlana

hegumen Nikon (Golovko)

Hello, father. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. A fasting person I know asked me a question, is it possible to eat bread that is sold in stores during the Advent? Indeed, in monasteries they bake bread themselves and know exactly the composition. So that a person does not break the fast, I turn to you for an answer! Thanks to!

Olga

Olga, despite the fact that milk and eggs are indicated in the composition of store-bought bread, an exception is made for bread, as for the main food product - it is blessed to use it during fasting. And besides, do not forget: the most important thing in fasting is that fasting in its essence is not so much a rejection of products as a rejection of passions.

hegumen Nikon (Golovko)

Good afternoon, please help me figure out how to be. Two years ago, my child was in intensive care, I prayed and asked God for the child's recovery, and when I was in the temple I had a vision - what can I give God in gratitude, what can I sacrifice? And on Wednesday I decided not to eat food at all - only prosphora and holy water - just on Wednesday my child had an operation, and thank God, everything went well and the child recovered. I was with the priest and asked for a blessing on Wednesdays - but the priest told me: first, think carefully about whether you can, and then come to me (I think so far - I haven’t taken a blessing on Wednesdays yet), and now I have been 2 years I keep this vow, during this time our family has become much closer to God - my husband and I got married, we ourselves try to confess and take communion, and the children too. And now I understand that it’s very hard not to eat for a whole day - the family has to cook food, work, and in worldly life it’s very hard, and I myself feel weak, but at the same time I’m afraid of God, because then he left the child alive and helped, and I am very grateful to God for everything. Help me figure out how to do the right thing with environments! Save you Lord!

Alla

Hello Allah! You need to go to this priest for confession and repent of taking a vow on your own. And ask him to relax or cancel your vow at his discretion. This is the only way to understand your situation and do everything legally.

Priest Vladimir Shlykov

After the removal of the gallbladder, I developed chronic pancreatitis. Is it possible to fast with such a diagnosis?

Irina

Irina, you can fast, but wisely. By the way, after all, fasting can be carried out not only by limiting yourself in some products. You can try to avoid idle pastimes - for example, not watching TV, giving up the Internet for a while, etc. This is also a post.

hegumen Nikon Golovko

Dear fathers, tell me what to do in the following situation? Let's say a post, and I keep it. But, when I'm at work and come to lunch in the canteen, then there, well, maybe only 10% meatless dishes. Or during the whole day I move around the city, I go to a cafe to eat, there is also practically nothing for fasting people. Or I come to visit friends in the evening, and they waited and specially prepared something. And I'm hungry, and I will refuse - they will be offended by me. When I eat at home, it's no problem - I have everything lean and I keep it. But somewhere in society...

Olga

Hello Olga! The time of fasting is not only abstinence in food, but also spiritual abstinence. During fasting, one should refrain from amusements, go to visit as little as possible. We need to devote more time to prayer and visiting the temple. With regard to food in cafes and canteens, you can bring food with you (if it is not prohibited) or choose the least modest dishes.

Priest Vladimir Shlykov

Father, bless! AT next year we want to get married and get married. We have known each other for 7 years, but only now, in Diveevo, at Father Seraphim's, we have become close. After painting, we want to get married (this will be in the fall). The girl goes to the church of Seraphim of Sarov, and I to the monastery of John of Kronstadt, we want either my father or her to marry us, but her church is located at the Seraphim cemetery, and I don’t know if it’s good to get married there? Yes, of course, it’s funny, but I have never seen people getting married in cemeteries. Is it right to get married in a cemetery? Tell me please. Yes, and more, tell me, please, the girl wants a good wedding (with a cafe, with a limousine, with many guests from her side, with good rings). I don't care, but I'll do it for her. Can you tell if this is good? And can you tell me which menu is better to choose? And since it will be a fast day, is it possible to break it and eat everything (and the wedding night)? Thank you.

Vyacheslav

Vyacheslav, they also get married in cemetery churches, as in all the others, although, I agree with you, the arrangement for a wedding will be very unusual.
As for your other questions - well, she wants a limousine and everything else, so be it. But fast days And don't break any other rules. By the way, all these questions are removed if you schedule a wedding on Sunday.

hegumen Nikon (Golovko)

Good health, holy father. Tell me, is a wedding on August 26 (in Lent) with a dying spouse in the hospital considered valid? The priest who married us knew our family and respected the dying. Maybe he performed this ceremony out of compassion, I don’t know, but will we be together with my husband in heaven? I pray for his soul. Thank you very much.

Elena

Hello, Elena.
A wedding performed by a clergyman is valid, regardless of the time of its completion.
In your case, you don't need to worry.
Regarding the question of the meeting in Heaven, we read in the Gospel (Luke 20:27-36).
Being together is possible, but everything will be different. How this will happen, we can find out only there.
May the Lord help you.

Priest Sergiy Osipov

Hello, father, you are worried about Daria, I am 19 years old. I have a young man, we met in the temple, at first everything was fine, we went to the temple together, but then I realized that it was very difficult for him, since he had not gone to the temple since childhood, and his mother only last years became a permanent parishioner. I recently heard from him that he does not want to go to church every Sunday in his future family, keep fasts, pray in the morning and evening, that he considers this to be an extreme thing, it is enough for him 2 times in six months, that he wears a cross, he believes that God exists, and believes that the main thing is to do good deeds, while he will not forbid his wife to pray, fast, etc. Father, what should I do if in the future we want to be together, but I want to Orthodox family, in one spirit, it's wrong when the wife fasts, and the husband does not, when the wife goes to the temple, and he goes to work ... There is no unity there. And at the same time, I cannot leave him, he is a kind and dear person to me, but what should I do, how to guide me on the right path? God bless you in advance! And if possible, don't post the question.

Daria

Hello Daria!
The wife will not be able to rigidly influence the choice of her husband, he himself determines the measure of his piety. The unity of spouses is not to do everything the same, but to respect each other's choices. It seems that the young man respects your choice. If you can recognize for him the right to go to the temple 4 times a year, then you can marry.
Help God.

Priest Sergiy Osipov

Was published draft document "On preparation for Holy Communion" prepared by the Commission of the Inter-Council Presence on the Issues of Parish Life and Parish Practice. Currently, this project is being actively discussed in the church press and on websites, by laity and clergy.

This document raises extremely important questions regarding the preparation for Holy Communion, in particular, the connection between Confession and Holy Communion, the frequency of communion with the Holy Mysteries, the duration and severity of fasting (fasting) before Holy Communion, Communion during Bright Week, as well as the features of the Eucharistic fast .

A special place in the draft document is given to the issue of the need to confess every time before receiving Holy Communion. Thus, in particular, the following indulgence was proposed: “In some cases, with the blessing of the confessor, the laity who intend to take Holy Communion several times within one week - first of all, on Passion and Bright Weeks - may, as an exception, be exempted from confessions before each communion. (“Draft document “On preparation for Holy Communion”).

Discussing this project in their articles, conversations, comments, both the clergy and the laity dwelled on several basic issues. Is it possible not to confess before each reception of Holy Communion? How long to fast (fast) before Communion? And will frequent confession affect her spirituality?

So, let's try to shed light on the mood of the clergy to these main issues.

Question 1. Is it necessary to confess before each Holy Communion?

It should be noted that some easing in the issue of confession, prescribed in the draft document "On preparation for Holy Communion", was highly appreciated by many clergymen. For example, the rector of the Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, archpriest Maxim Kozlov in his interview published on the portal theologian.ru, he admits: “It seems to me that in other cases you need to trust the priest more. Of course, in modern church reality with a predominance in our flock of new converts who have recently come and not quite churched people allowing the laity to determine for themselves when they will confess before communion will, in my opinion, only lead to negative consequences.<…>However, permission for a priest to give a blessing to spiritual children known to him to receive communion for a certain period of time if they have thoroughly confessed and do not know of mortal sins after the last confession will be useful, since it will allow us to avoid profanation of the Sacrament of Confession. After all, sometimes a person hardly thinks out what to say to him when confessing, or begins a story about everyday domestic misconduct, in which he, of course, repents, realizing in life that he is sinful before God, but in this case talks about them only so that at least something was said at confession. In other cases, I have blessed people known to me who live the church life to come to the Chalice not only the next morning after evening confession, but also, let’s say, on the next feast in a few days. If such a provision is approved, it will be possible just welcome."

True, Archpriest Maxim Kozlov immediately stipulates that such an indulgence must necessarily be controlled by a priest: “Control on the part of the priesthood must certainly be preserved. But this could be done, for example, in the form of a blessing. For example, a layman approaches, receives a blessing, and takes communion at this liturgy without profaning the Sacrament of Confession.».

The priest seems to strongly disagree with him. Nikolai Bulgakov, he claims: " A reservation that “in some cases, with the blessing of the confessor, the laity who intend to take Holy Communion several times during one week - first of all, on Passion and Bright Weeks - may, as an exception, be exempted from confession before each communion ”, looks like a violation of the most important traditional principle, a concession to opponents of the indispensable confession before communion on the day of the Liturgy or the night before. One has only to make one such concession, leave the solution of the issue “at the discretion of the confessor” (there is already a proposal to add Christmas time here), and off we go.<…>Do you confess often? Does it even happen every day? Are you leading such a serious spiritual life? And at the same time, do you think that you can live at least a day without sin? Only in one case is this possible: if you don’t see them, you don’t notice them.<…>The unwillingness of a layman to go to confession every day, every time before communion, most likely speaks of his insufficiently developed, deep, attentive spiritual life, of a lack of a repentant feeling».

Even more sharply about the need for confession before each Holy Communion, writes the rector of the Assumption Church, s. Aleshkovo, Stupino District, Moscow Region, Archpriest Mikhail Redkin in his article "On Confession and Communion": " If a Christian does not feel the need for constant confession (not only before Communion, but especially before Communion), then he is in a dangerous spiritual state. This applies to both priests and laity.<…>Communion without confession is a very dangerous trend. Firstly, as already mentioned, if a Christian does not feel the need for confession every day, especially before Communion (for a good host will first clean up his house and then invite a dear Guest), then his soul is in a spiritual sleep. Secondly, it can lead to a false understanding of the Eucharist as an automatic attraction of the grace of God.”

Their position is shared by a laywoman Elena Kravets. In her article, analyzing the question of Communion without confession, she makes an unexpected conclusion: “I don’t know lay people (including myself) who would like to do without confession before communion (regardless of the frequency of participation in the sacrament), but I met clergymen who different reasons who advocated reducing the preparation for communion at the expense of confession. It is explainable. A believer is always happy to talk about himself with a priest, while regularly repeating lists of the same “ordinary”, petty sins cause confessing clergymen to feel a vicious circle and “evil infinity” (I got such statements from the feedback of clergymen).

And after such a conclusion, addressing those clergymen who advocate relief in preparation for Holy Communion, Elena Kravets remarks: “ Let me not believe you that frequent communion without preliminary work on oneself mechanically changes and heals the soul, that God, who values human freedom, acts in spiritual life in addition to human will. I am afraid that the proposed changes in the practice of preparing for communion do not mean the spiritual benefit of the parishioners, but the solution of some problems of the parish ministry of the clergy. Without denying the existence of these problems, I think that such a solution is unfortunate. It offers a poor "regular congregation" in critical moments his spiritual life to turn a blind eye to his own internal state subject to their compliance certain forms religious life. I believe that a regular parishioner, a faithful member of the Church, deserves more attention to his inner world.

And then he adds: “I propose not to deprive the Lord God of the opportunity to change, correct, comfort or enlighten the human soul in the sacrament of confession, in the obligatory prayer before communion, provided that both the parishioner and his confessor consider it necessary and important.<…>I suggest that the clergy do what was done before, in recent times, and not change this practice.”("An elderly parishioner's opinion on preparing for the sacrament").

And here is the priest Peter (Prutyan), who serves in the Portuguese city of Cascais, the Korsun Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, on the contrary, proposes to make an even greater indulgence in relation to confession. In his article, "he even introduces a certain mathematical approach to this matter: “For those who come to take communion one or three or four times a year, confession before each communion is obligatory, especially if the priest does not know the life of this person. In fact, confession before each communion appeared precisely when people began to receive communion only a few times a year. The question arises as to whether those who have been receiving communion once a year for many years in a row, "according to tradition", should be given communion, without having a sincere desire to be living members of the Church. Why should we deceive these people and ourselves? The Eucharistic minimum established by the Church suggests communion once every three Sundays (canon 80 of Trullo Council), and not once a year. For those who received communion once a year, I allowed communion only on the condition (justified in my opinion) that they come at least two or three Sundays in a row for communion. So, for the first time in their lives, some took communion on several Sundays in a row and even kept the entire Great Lent. Some of those people continue to receive communion even now, while others I have not seen since. Despite this, at least I tried to get them out of the false understanding that if you take communion once a year, then everything is in order, and the one who does this is Orthodox by all the rules.<…>Those Christians who are living members of the Church read Holy Bible and other spiritual books, perform the morning and evening rule, observe four multi-day fasts, as well as Wednesdays and Fridays, are at peace with everyone and confess once every three to four weeks, can, in my opinion, take communion at each liturgy without special additional conditions ".

Question 2. Frequent confession: good or formality?

Priest Nikolai Bulgakov is extremely negative about the idea that frequent confession can become formal: “Opponents of the rule of confession before communion say that parishioners who often take communion express bewilderment: they say that in confession one has to talk about the same thing. So what? We read the same prayers, and our services are repeated, and we wash ourselves the same way many times a day - so why not pray, not wash? We repent not only of new ones, but of all the sins we have committed by the time of confession, to the end - then it will be a pure confession: If you hide anything from me, it is a sin to imashi.<…>No, confession should not be canceled if one has to repent of the same sins, but, on the contrary, this is where a deeper confession is needed, including that a person does not improve spiritually, does not get rid of sins, with clarification reasons that lead to such sad marking time. It is necessary to lag behind recurring sins, and not from confession.("Confession before communion - always").

And so that the laity would not have a feeling of getting used to confession, a formal approach, priest Nikolai Bulgakov advises: “ To call on our parishioners at confession to really ask God for forgiveness for their sins, to learn to see them, to learn not to justify themselves in anything, but to be stricter to themselves.<…>Learn in confession not to talk too much, not to tell stories with many details, not to involve other people in your sins, thereby trying to justify yourself. Do not condemn others, adding new sins to yourself in confession. Do not confuse confession with a doctor's appointment (illnesses are not sins, but a consequence of sins). Do not boast in confession about what you are doing, but ask God for forgiveness for what you have done, really convicting yourself.("Confession before communion - always").

A priest offers a different vision of an informal approach to confession and Holy Communion Andrey Kordochkin. In his article, which is called “Commentary on the draft of the Inter-Council Presence “On the preparation for Holy Communion””, he says: “You cannot free a person from confession. You can be exempted from physical education, from vaccinations, from taxes, from other duties. One cannot be freed from confession, just as one cannot be forced to confess. Confession is first of all a free manifestation of the human spirit, performed in times of need and necessity.<…>To avoid the profanation of the sacrament, one can follow another path - to create.

The Church as a community in which the shepherd knows his sheep, and in the absence of serious sins, does not force them to breathe into each other's necks in front of the lectern half an hour before the start of the Liturgy. So he will be able to devote more time to the confession of those people who really need it, taking their first steps in the Church, or freeing themselves from serious sins and vices.

In this sense, it should be noted in the document that the practice of forced confession for the laity, having its own advantages and merits, has never been generally accepted anywhere, and the priest himself, according to his pastoral reasoning, may or may not admit a person to the Holy Chalice, without turning confession into a formality».

The aforementioned archpriest also opposes the frequent but formal approach to Communion. Mikhail Redkin. In his article, he first cites the following words of Theophan the Recluse "Confession and Holy Communion- are inevitably necessary: one cleanses, the other - a bath, plaster and food. It is necessary to take communion in all four fasts. You can add, taking communion on the Great and Pre-Christmas twice ... You can add more, but not too much, so as not to be indifferent "(Creations like in the saints of our father Theophan the Recluse. Collection of letters, vol. 1.

And then develops them: « current trend frequent Communion without reasoning (unlike the ancient one) is very dangerous. If for the first Christians frequent Communion crowned their constant ascetic life, today there is an attempt to replace the feat with Communion, which is given an almost magical meaning. That is, he took communion and thus was automatically sanctified. But to think in the way that has already been said is wrong and dangerous.

As a result, frequent Communion without straining all spiritual forces can give the opposite result. Therefore, neither frequent Communion will save, nor a rare Communion will destroy. Communion can be both often and rarely, depending on the circumstances. The value of Communion does not depend on frequency or rarity, but on reverence for the Holy and on the consciousness of one's unworthiness. ("On Confession and Communion" )

Rather paradoxical thoughts are expressed by the priest serving in Portugal, already mentioned by us. Pyotr (to Prutyan). He's writing: " Holy Scripture and the patristic tradition of our Church pay great attention to spiritual growth, which is possible only through the maturation of spiritual consciousness. Of course, more frequent confession helps in this, but only for those who are from the “middle class”. Those who come to church occasionally do not understand why they should go to confession more often. It may even scare them. And for those who have some kind of spiritual experience, it tires or slows down their natural spiritual uplift. Confession should not be viewed as an opportunity to receive forgiveness for sins that a person does not understand or struggle with in any way. Such a confession soon becomes a misleading formalism!

Spiritual practice shows that a person who takes communion for several weeks in a row, having confessed only once, is more attentive to his spiritual life than the one who is called to confess before each communion. People from the first category will grow spiritually, correctly understanding the meaning of the sacrament and confession, while people from the second category will perceive confession as a kind of “window” in which “tickets” for communion are issued (or even sold!) This happens most often, although there may be a number of exceptions.<…>In order to partake of the Holy Mysteries, we must constantly be in a state of repentance and contrition of heart, without which we cannot approach the Eucharistic Chalice. But this does not mean that every time we have to go to confession, if our conscience does not prompt us to do so.<…>

There are people (especially women) who, if it were possible, would confess every day for a whole hour, falling into dangerous delusions. But such an approach is not spiritual, but sentimental, and sometimes even demonic. Apparently, the evil one is more interested in giving you the impression that you are doing something good than when he does not allow you to do anything.

Therefore, priests, especially young ones, should be attentive to long and detailed confessions, at the same time without falling into the formalism of confessions “on the assembly line”, which, in fact, are not confessions”(“Again about the main thing, or the fifth point is dedicated”).

Question 3. How long should I fast (fast) before Holy Communion?

The issue of fasting (retreat) before confession and acceptance of the Holy Mysteries also became debatable. So, in his already mentioned interview, “It is important to indicate the limits beyond which it is impossible to demand from the laity,” Archpriest Maxim Kozlov notes: “In particular, it seems to me quite reasonable that the duration of preparation for communion should be directly related to the regularity of a person’s communion with the Holy Mysteries, the regularity of his participation in the sacramental life of the Church.<…>Is it worth prescribing the duration of fasting in the document? Maybe yes. I believe that if someone takes communion once or twice a month, two or three days of fasting are quite acceptable for him, but the requirement to abstain from fast food during the week would be strange, because, given the four multi-day fasts during the year, the life of this person would then turn into a continuous post. If a person takes communion once or twice a year, you can say more, although even here you need to look at a specific person.”

And the priest Nikolai Bulgakov suggests in the post question not to make any drastic changes. In his article, he notes: “Lay people are well aware that it is usually necessary to fast for three days before taking communion. Since, as experience shows, they themselves "successfully" reduce this rule, it is better not to discourage them in this. If you “officially” allow fasting for one day during the year, then it may turn out that nothing will remain of this day.”("Confession before communion - always").

The mentioned archpriest Mikhail Redkin regarding fasting before confession, my own view of things: “At the same parish, a confessor can bless one parishioner to fast (including fasting) for 7 days, another 3 days, a third 1 day, and allow someone to Communion only after observing the Eucharistic fast. Everything depends on the spiritual and physical condition of the speaker, which is written in the document: take into account the mental and physical condition of the speaker.(“On Confession and Communion”).

It is with such different points of view that one has to meet. And, judging by the heated and controversial discussion of the project document "On preparation for Holy Communion", we can conclude that this document is extremely relevant for our Church today. And its speedy adoption will help clarify a number of important issues.

What is Communion? What is the right way to fast before this day? You will find answers to these and other questions in the article.

All believing Orthodox Christians must go to Communion in church. The Holy Eucharist is a special procedure that is the memory of Christ.

  • On the eve of his terrible death, Christ told his disciples that in his memory people would drink wine and eat bread. These are symbols of his blood and body.
  • Therefore, throughout the existence Orthodox faith, people go to liturgy, take communion with wine and eat bread, and priests read prayers with the words “Let us pray to the Lord for the offered Honest Gifts.”
  • How should one prepare for Communion? What can and cannot be done the day before? What is allowed to do by the rules of the church after Communion? Read about it in the article.

Is it possible to brush your teeth, wash, wash, take a shower before Communion in church?

Is it possible to brush your teeth, wash, wash, take a shower before Communion in church?

Previously, even during the persecution of the church, grandmothers still visited churches and took their children to the liturgy, and then their grandchildren. But, if we talk about Orthodox literacy, then it was almost non-existent. Everyone acted as he saw fit, because people were afraid not only to ask, but also to carry on any conversations about God or the church.

Now these children and grandchildren have grown up, but they still continue to attend the temple. They often have a question: is it possible to brush your teeth, wash, wash, take a shower before Communion in church, because grandmothers taught one rule, and the canons of the church imply something completely different.

  • A visit to the temple is a special event, because we meet with God, becoming partakers of the holy Eucharist, we receive the true Body and Blood of Christ in bread and wine.
  • A person should be aware that this is a holiday. Therefore, you need to brush your teeth, wash, wash and take a shower NECESSARILY. It is written in the rules of the church that if a person brushes his teeth and takes a sip of water or pasta, then it is not considered that he drank water or ate. You need to really look at the situation, using the wisdom and your mind that God has given us.
  • It is also necessary to wear clean and beautiful clothes. Divine Liturgy is a holiday, a meeting with God, life in prayers. This must be remembered, and then questions will not arise whether it is possible to wash and how to dress.

The temple should occupy a special place in the life of every Christian. This is the house of God, where we must come without sorrow and despondency.

How many hours before Communion is it forbidden to eat?

Strict fasting begins before Communion begins after 12 night of the previous day. This means that you can not eat or drink anything. Liturgy usually begins at 8 am, communion begins after 1.5-2 hours. Therefore, it turns out that 9-10 hours before Communion, one cannot eat and drink.

Is it possible to eat fish on the eve of Communion?

When we cross the threshold of the church, we find ourselves in God's house - this is already Heaven, not earth, and all worldly problems and thoughts should remain outside the threshold. Is it possible to get infected with something during Communion in church? Near the cup, people receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Here only Purity and Sterility. Believers should not even have the thought of contagious diseases. Besides Orthodox Christian shouldn't think about it at all. Batiushka goes to give communion to sick people in hospitals, but no one has been infected yet.

Communion is one of the Great Sacraments. A person must receive the Holy Gifts in order to purify the soul. It is important that a person does not lose reverence, but with all his being feels the benefit of the Sacrament of Communion. Only true believers feed their souls all their lives with a unique contrast: between the anguish of a slave who kneels and prays (during confession), and the free flight of an eagle spreading its wings wide (after Communion).

Video: Where did the ban on food before Communion come from?

Each person must decide this question for himself. It all depends on the needs of your soul. No one can determine for you how often you should Communion. Although some guidelines, recommendations can be given.

In Communion, the Lord grants strength for repentance. If a person tries to seriously improve his life, to live by faith, for the sake of God, and takes communion too rarely, then sooner or later he may simply break down from a lack of strength, for repentance requires a lot of strength. If a person takes communion often, but does not seriously think about what is happening to him and does not want repentance, then sooner or later he can simply go crazy, because he approaches such a terrible Sacrament without a mind.

By the way, from this we can conclude that it is still better to take communion more often, since life is generally given to us for repentance.

THERE ARE NO CANONICAL RESTRICTIONS TO FREQUENT COMMUNICATION. Only twice a day is impossible. There is a canonical restriction to rare Communion. If a person did not Communion for three weeks in a row without objective reasons, then he excommunicates himself spiritually from the Church. And there is also Rule VI of the Ecumenical Council on the duty of Orthodox Christians in Easter week partake DAILY. At the same time, there is no fasting; it is prohibited on Easter. After all, it's joy! And what kind of joy is there without Communion, without the fullness of Church life? Stuff your belly about the end of the post? This, forgive me, is not joy about the Risen Christ.

Non-admission to frequent Communion in many parishes it is based not on the Canons, but on the traditions of past (and few) centuries. Then it was permissible: people were such that the experience of the Sacrament was enough for them for half a year. We are with hardened hearts. And to melt them, words alone are not enough. We need grace (spiritual strength given by God), and it is served in the Sacraments.

Before the revolution, when the earthly Church was in a difficult situation, the Lord revealed for the admonition of the believers the great shepherd, the holy righteous John Kronstadt. At that time, the temples were empty. Services were rarely performed. There were no people willing to confess. And John of Kronstadt began to celebrate the Liturgy daily. And he gathered so many PARTICIPATING believers! He could not even confess one by one: he stood with a cup in front of Communion, and all the people at the same time SCREAMED their sins to him. And Father John, by the eyes of the person approaching the Chalice, unmistakably determined how sincere and complete each confession was.

For daily communion, Father John was even accused of heresy. But he did not violate any Orthodox canons, rather, on the contrary, he reminded everyone of the long-forgotten. Read his diaries and you will understand everything.

By the way, from the confession of John of Kronstadt they later made the so-called " general confession". The priest will come out, read the sins from the book, cover everyone with stole - and you're done. And at the confession of John of Kronstadt, people called their sins THEMSELVES, as it should be.

What are the obstacles to frequent Communion? Unworthiness? NOBODY deserves to partake. Have you, like Christ, redeemed the world from sin? God forbid, come to Communion with the thought that you are “worthy.”

Insufficient post? If you commune canonically, weekly, then canonical fasts are enough for you: Wednesdays and Fridays. Is it about food? You see, they have made an obstacle to Communion out of fasting! The kingdom of God is not food and drink! (Apostle). If it comes to that, then we must fast continuously, only not at all in the sense of starving (otherwise our strength will run out), but to be like a sentry on duty, guarding our souls. And knowing the measure in food (correct fasting) helps this.

The purpose of preparing for Communion is to realize, to the best of our ability, what (To whom) we are approaching in the temple, and to think in advance what to say at confession.

If I have an exam in physics, and as a preparation, I will starve for some days instead of studying physics, I am unlikely to pass the exam. And, on the other hand, if I understand that I need to learn physics, but I will eat "from the belly", then I will not have the strength to prepare, because I will want to sleep all the time. Or some other trouble with the flesh will begin. Understand the meaning of fasting in food?

And from the prayers before Communion, they also manage to make a turnstile. It's good to pray a lot! But if I read the N-th canon of the prayer book, already not understanding what is written there, then how will the God I am addressing understand me? Why is this? To make me even more stupid?

And if I don’t go to confession and Communion (to God!) because I didn’t say some words of prayers to Him due to lack of time or strength, is this right? He needs a heart, not words. And it’s just good to talk about the heart at Confession, and it is treated in Communion ...

The only serious obstacle to Communion is the lack of desire for repentance.

Is it worth attending the Liturgy, but not taking communion? The prayers of the entire second half of the Liturgy (the Liturgy of the faithful) are prayers on behalf of those who are preparing here and now to receive communion. Is it possible to simply attend the Last Supper and not receive communion (as a spectator?) - judge for yourself. Is it possible after confession, when you have reconciled with God, to turn your back to Him and leave without taking communion, ignoring His call (Take, eat...)?

Of course, standing through the entire Liturgy and not taking communion is quite acceptable for newcomers, if only because few churches can organize normal catechesis (theoretical training in the basics of Orthodoxy) for parishioners, and they do not understand what is happening in the church. But such a situation cannot be called the norm.

Before Communion it is strictly necessary to make three z.p. in honor of Holy Trinity , and whoever makes one bow or not a single z.p., the Lord does not partake of him and imputes him to grave sin, as negligence for the Body and Blood of Christ (no matter how many canons and akathists they read). And Lord allows a serious illness to that person - everything is dead and their prayers are not accepted by God. Before Communion, it is very great to do a lot of kneeling / from 3 to 30 bows /, according to their sinfulness, the more the better, with petitions: God. Get rid of the seal of the Antichrist, I will help raise children, confirm in the Orthodox faith, so as not to waver (names ...). And a healthy person needs to pray more and strive for a pious (pure) life /do not commit sins, there is no need for a healthy person to Communion/.

It is scary to take Communion on Holy Thursday after Communion also on Easter - there is no need, but now all over Russia people receive Communion in this way. This action is deliberate for one's soul due to its abuse. Such Communion will lead the Orthodox people to terrible diseases and high mortality, which is now observed. On Maundy Thursday there were 2,100 communicants, the Lord Communioned only 27 people, in the Borisoglebsk church on Easter there were 4-6 thousand people, the Lord accepted the prayers of only 38 people. - the words of the maidens. Pelagia. On Easter at all times, only infants / up to 7-10 years old / were Communioned. The Lord does not Communion women with short hair and trousers. 1z.p. = 3000 p.p., and 1 p.p. = 500 p.p.

Blessed Pelageya ordered and punished, which is great for a believing Christian on Fridays before annual holidays, annual holidays not to eat food due to the strength of their abilities and for health reasons. Some until 12 o'clock, some until 14, some until 16, some until 18 o'clock and be in unceasing prayer. This will be very necessary when Orthodox Christians do not accept electronic cards or the seal of the Antichrist (the imposition of a chip on the hand and forehead), from thirst to food. And more often read the troparion to the prophet Daniel and call on him for help.

Another blessed virgin. Pelagia said: it is necessary to apply the grass to gout and cut with a billhook more linden branches to satisfy the terrible hunger.

Radioed on February 2, 2009 that crisis for Russia is necessary (a terrible famine is needed) for the education of youth and people. Blessed also spoke about this many years ago. Pelageya that only through great tribulations will people come to the knowledge of God. She also said that the increase in pensions for the imminent arrival of the Antichrist.

Bliss. dev. Pelageya has not yet blessed either to marry or to get married. in Russia, children are so mired in sins: smoking, drinking beer, everywhere a solid obscenity, clothes that do not match the sex (wearing by girls and women menswear), terrible fornication among young people, Sodom sin, sorcery, etc. Why are they born? The already born baby - the servant of Satan - is a victim of hell. Russia ranks first in the number of suicides. Remember, Orthodox Christians, that terrible punishment awaits those parents whose children go against God, you must be afraid of God and death will be easy, so you need a lot of work so as not to get entangled in the cunning nets of the devil and his servants. How many sorcerers in the clergy, who stand at the throne of God!? For 20 centuries, 10% of the clergy were saved, and even fewer people (from 10 thousand 1 people).

Nowhere, in no faith is there such a betrayal of God as in the Orthodox faith. And that just do not come up with. So, few clergy were saved, mostly they went to hell to serve Satan! The words of the girls Pelagia: from great to small, all will serve Satan. Satan needs to crush the Orthodox faith, to destroy it, so that they do not properly baptize, do not pray. Basically, the whole world is already his servant, except for Orthodoxy, who pray, sing, praise, thank the Lord. Its ultimate goal is the imposition of a chip (seal) on the hand and forehead of this small handful of people who truly believe in Jesus Christ, i.e. to a single person. By any means and trickery, deceit - there will be a lot of them but only to lead away from the true God Jesus Christ. All faiths around the world: Buddhists, Muslims, Catholics, Protestants and various sects have renounced the Orthodox faith of Jesus Christ and themselves voluntarily converted to other faiths. This is the renunciation of God; sin 19 ordeal. Under no circumstances will chipped people cross themselves, i.e. they won't be able to do it.The Russian people will easily accept chipping on the hand and forehead - the words of the virgins. Pelagia. But the Lord Almighty will leave 7 temples and a handful of strongly believing people to prove to Satan that Jesus Christ true god- Omnipotent.

Orthodox Christians, to any priest who is against the prophecies of the virgins. Pelageya, it's better not to be born. Because he goes against God.

But what mercy of God to us sinners, said St. Blessed. Pelagia. If a person spoke loudly, called someone names, pushed, swore rudely, etc. - this is the sin of our incontinence, then we must immediately say: Lord forgive me! And demons don't write sin on a charter. There is no need to confess this sin. After the epitrachili is placed on the head by the priest, this sin is removed from the person, because. The Lord knows that the power of the devil is still strong over weak people who fall into his net. Such is the mercy of God to fallen humanity, but we do not love Him, we do not pray to Him, we do not glorify Him, but we only accumulate sins, increasing only the pain of the crown of thorns on His head and nails, that is, we again crucify the Lord. Holy bliss Pelageya is the great saint of God. Love her, read the troparion and akathist to her more often, because she will be the protector on doomsday your souls.

Orthodox Christians, read and think many times in order to know with whom to communicate, for whom to pray, and how careful you need to be. Who will walk right the true way to God, according to this manuscript, whoever understands it must fulfill everything so strictly, the devil so longs to destroy such people through terrible magicians (sorcerers), so read more often: For God is with us, psalm 26, Chosen Governor 12-40 times a day, troparion St. martyr. Cyprian. To live more for the salvation of the weak-believing people.

Addressing Orthodox Christians, Reverend Sergius Radonezhsky said: whoever does not pray for my parents has nothing to do in my monastery. And we will tell you that if you do not pray for us, then there will be no benefit from reading this manuscript. So that it would be good for both you and us - it is smart for us to write for your salvation, and you from God have mercy - salvation. All this is love and joy for God. In view of the imminent unification of all faiths into one satanic one and the imminent arrival of the Antichrist, every Christian should think about the salvation of his soul. You can’t go to temples of another faith - sl. Pelagia. Make every effort in the remaining time to atone for your sins more, help others draw closer to God and provide all possible assistance to your departed. So you, Orthodox Christians, read and follow, in which book is such knowledge? Briefly, clearly - read and be saved. Knowledge is given here, read, pray, pray, pray. The words: “Lord, teach me to pray fervently, deliver me from the seal of the Antichrist” repeat as much as possible - the saying of the blessed virgins. Pelagia. To prove the truth of the words spoken by Pelagia to the godson of the river Peter, written in this manuscript, she blessed him with a procession on the water.

And help you, Lord, save your souls and help others.
