How to make a chalk board from different materials with your own hands? Chalk board - Let's make a fashion trend with our own hands! What are school boards made of?

I had a fight with my husband the other day. Well, I quarreled... I was offended. Strongly. Now I don’t even remember what. PMS hit me completely, I realized this only later. She got into the car and drove off. Calm your nerves, be alone. After 10 kilometers they let me go, but shouldn’t I come back right away? “Let my dear be worried, let him talk to the children without me,” I thought vindictively.

So where should I go? Where to relieve stress? Right. To the store. Shop)))

And of the normal stores nearby, the only one is a construction store... my favorite... the most “relaxing” store)))

Having inhaled the fumes of varnishes and paints, felt the brushes and rollers, read the instructions on all bottles of solvents, liquid glass and mastics - I finally came to my senses. And I decided that the time had come to fulfill my long-standing promise to make a chalk board for children.

In the same store I bought bitumen varnish (37 rubles), drying oil (50 rubles), white enamel (140 rubles), brushes and this fiberboard sheet, such as thick cardboard 250*120mm (180 rubles), smooth on one side. Special slate paints are sold for school boards, but I didn’t come across them, and they’re not cheap.

I tried it on doorway in the car (wrong :))), I cut a sheet of fiberboard and... I couldn’t stuff it into the cabin. She called the loader for help and together, sweating and swearing and breaking off the edges with our fingers, we still squeezed one part in. I freaked out about the second one (apparently I didn’t completely let it go :)) I broke it in half and threw it away, saying it would be useful later somewhere for small crafts.

And she returned home very pleased with herself. Directed, so to speak, negative energy on the right track...

HOW TO MAKE A SCHOOL BOARD WITH YOUR OWN HANDS

The sheet was coated with bitumen varnish in two layers. Along and across, with intermediate drying.

FRAME FOR SCHOOL CHALK BOARD

Frame for school board I made it from an unedged inch board 10 cm wide. She sawed the blanks, sanded them and, having already made peace with her husband, they put it together. It’s more convenient for two))

I covered it with drying oil to close the pores and extend the life of the paint, dried it for a day and then applied two layers of white paint.

The husband screwed the painted sheet to the frame. By the way, we left the sheet to dry outside. It rained at night and spoiled it a little. Well, okay, we’re not doing it for centuries.

HOW TO HANG A PICTURE ON THE WALL

A school board, like any picture, needs to be hung on the wall. And, preferably, evenly))) How to mark the place for the second screw? How to get under the frame to the hinge? This is quite difficult to do. But you can simplify your task by making a simple device for aligning paintings in 2 minutes, which will come in handy more than once in the future!

We hung the finished board on the wall using the following device: a board with a handle on one end and a screw on the other, which is screwed in through so that its tip sticks out.

How to hang a school board (picture) evenly with this thing? You must first mark a place on the wall and screw in the first screw. Then hang the picture (or a school board) with one loop on it, and the other on a screw that is screwed into the board-device. And now calmly level it to the desired height. Next, press on the frame so that scratches from the screw remain on the wall. This is where you will need to drill a hole in the wall.

Our school board we hung it on 4 loops: two at the top and two almost at the bottom, so that it would not flap on the wall, but would hang tightly.

It's simple and fast!

Bituminous varnish is my recent discovery and latest “love”. It also covers the cabinet under the sink, the chest, the walls of the guinea shed and the entire new goat enclosure.

The cabinet under the sink is my work :), I made it while my husband was assembling a box-chest for grain (pictured on the left).

Bitumen protects the wood from moisture and insects and, at the same time, looks solid, unlike drying oil. Not as cool as white paint... But painting is much faster. One layer, without drying oil. It protects and looks great. Yes! And it costs a penny: 37 rubles. for 0.5 liters!

Here's how interesting it turned out: resentment towards my husband led me to hardware store and pushed me to finally make the promised gift for my beloved daughters, in the process of making which we made peace. The circle is closed))) It turns out that you can benefit from grievances!

The school board turned out, of course, not exactly the same as the real one. After all, bitumen is still a varnish and hard inclusions in chalk scratch it, but against the general background this is not particularly noticeable. As a last resort, if the children really “sand” it completely, I’ll cover it again with a couple of layers of the same varnish.

Well, girls, did you like the board?!!

"CLASS!!!" - the girls said.

...And they left me alone for at least an hour...

Summer, oh, summer... There is no school, the older one can’t go to camp because of allergies, and the younger one didn’t go, so that the older one wouldn’t be offended... We sit at home together all the time and sometimes we bore each other quite a bit)))

So, the school board is cool!!!

I like)))))

In today's article I will tell you how you can make a school board with your own hands. I don’t know about anyone, but as a child I tried to make a drawing board at home, and according to my memories, I only made my parents laugh. I hope that after reading the article, you will be able to please your children good advice, and help them build a real school board on their own. Of course, you can buy a school board, but believe me, following the instructions below, building it with your own hands will not be difficult for you, the main thing is to be careful and consistent.

Blackboard materials

To make a school board with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:
- chipboard (Size: 1999x1349x16 mm) – for the base;
- Frosted glass (Size: 1997×1347x5 mm) - for the front surface. Glass, if you do not have experience cutting it yourself, it is better to order already cut glass from the seller.;
- Aluminum U-shaped profile (thickness 25 mm, internal distance 20 mm) – for the frame. Length: 2 pieces (top/bottom) - 2002 mm, 2 pieces (sides) - 1347 mm. Before starting work, aluminum profiles It is necessary to cut them at an angle of 45 degrees and file them with a fine file.
- Black or dark green enamel. You can also use paints with fine porcelain abrasive, which are more durable.
- Canopies for wall mounting
- Self-tapping screws
- Silicone sealant(you can use glass glue)
- Insulating tape for the seal
- If you want to make a school board with opening sides, you will need butterfly hinges or piano hinges.
To make it more convenient to assemble our school board, it is better to carry out all the work on a table, the table top of which should be smaller than the base of the board.
1. Place the chipboard on the table and clean its surface from various contaminants.
2. Apply glue to the cleaned chipboard in the form of parallel strips, in increments of 50 mm.
3. Place the glass carefully and evenly on top of the glued base. Second hands won't hurt here.
4. Move the glass slightly, from side to side, so that the glue is evenly distributed between it and the chipboard. Next, press the glass onto the base. Remember that since the glass is smaller than the base, the allowances on all edges must be the same.
5. Along the entire perimeter, the edges of the glass must be secured with electrical tape, and it must be wider than the grips of the aluminum profiles.
6. Leave the board for 24 hours to dry.
7. We paint the glass. Since the glass is frosted, the paint should lie flat. For this purpose, it is better to paint with a spray bottle, and for better atomization, the paint is diluted with a solvent in a ratio of 5 to 1. After the first painting, leave the glass to dry for a day, then apply another layer of paint.
8. After the glue and paint have dried, you can attach the aluminum profile, which is attached to the chipboard at the ends with self-tapping screws measuring 4x16 mm along the entire perimeter of the board. Such fasteners will be sufficient, since the profile does not bear any load and is used more for decorative purposes.
Well, our school board is ready.
To mount it on the wall, you can use various fasteners; it’s best to look at the building materials and accessories market.
If you glue a sheet of metal between the chipboard and the glass, the board will not only be used for drawing, but also for attaching various magnets to it.

At a certain age - not very respectable, but already almost reasonable, everyone was naughty and schoolchildren. Even inveterate excellent students dreamed of spending a stinking chemical experiment under the athlete's window - so as not to force the learned person to dangle on the horizontal bar like a sausage. Having our own inventive back-eaters, we already have to ask the exact opposite question: How to eliminate the consequences of the actions of a domestic demon? Today on the agenda are specifics: Do-it-yourself school board, made or restored.

Today we will make a modern school board

Materials and accessories for the board

First you need to find out what the modern school board is made of? We will need:

  • Chipboard for a rigid base. Sanded, 16 mm thick.
  • Frosted glass for the front surface. You can take a thin one, but not less than 3 millimeters.
  • U-shaped aluminum profile 25 mm wide (including 3 mm glass). The internal distance in this profile is 20 mm - just right for our purposes.
  • Matte enamel in dark green or black. If you can buy paint with fine porcelain abrasive (used in machine tools and for painting outboard motors), it will be just perfect. It will last ten years longer.
  • High-quality insulating tape for the seal - so as not to reinvent the wheel.
  • Canopies on the wall.
  • Silicone sealant or glass glue.
  • Self-tapping screws.

If you intend to make a hinged board, similar to a trellis, you will need butterfly loops. But today school will cost as usual teaching aid dimensions 2000x1350x25 mm.

School board detail

In any case, you will have to order glass cutting from a workshop. We recommend paying for processing and delivery immediately to avoid injuries and accidents.

  • Glass 1997x1347 mm.
  • Chipboard 1999x1349 mm.
  • 2002 mm – 2 pcs., upper and lower profile.
  • 1347 mm – 2 pcs., side profiles.

All aluminum profiles are sawed at an angle of 45 degrees and the cut is processed with a small file or needle file.

Making a school board

Before making a school board, you need to glue the main surfaces and process them. We used a table smaller in size than the board and occupied it for three days.

Put it on chipboard table and carefully remove crumbs, sawdust, etc. from the surface with a damp cloth. Apply glue in strips parallel to long side boards with a gap of approximately 50 mm. Ask someone to help you, because one must carefully position the glass in horizontal position on top adhesive base almost impossible.

You need to “wriggle” the glass a little, pressing it over the entire surface. It is smaller than the base, so distribute the tolerances evenly and immediately grab it around the perimeter with electrical tape. The tape should not be wider than the grips of the aluminum profile.

The glue will dry for about a day, but after three hours you can start painting the glass. The enamel will adhere well to frosted glass if you do not decide to apply it with a brush. For spray paint, the paint must be diluted with an appropriate solvent in a ratio of 5:1. Two approaches with a break of a day were enough for us to achieve a uniform color and an acceptable surface.

We snap the aluminum profile only after the coating and glue have completely dried. You can attach it to chipboard ends 4x16 self-tapping screws around the perimeter of the board. Since it does not carry any load, but serves only as a frame, this will be enough.

We figured out how to make a school board ourselves, or rather just a school board module for now. You can simply hang it on the wall by screwing basic fasteners to the base, or you can combine it with mechanisms or devices.

So, taking more wide profile and by gluing glass on both sides of the chipboard, we get ready module for a rotating or hinged school board. Using a sheet of metal instead of glass (of course, not three-millimeter thick, 0.4 mm body sheet metal is quite enough), we get a magnetic board and so on.

Slate paint is an excellent option for creating a stylish, modern interior. Elements with such a coating will be appropriate almost everywhere – from a children’s room to a solid office. IN Lately they have become a real design trend!

But the use of unusual paint in the interior is justified not only from a design point of view. Slate surfaces are also very practical. They are a great help in raising children, communicating with family, at work, and just in everyday life.

These paints are popularly called chalk paints. They create a durable matte, slightly rough coating on the surface on which you can write with chalk. The effect is like the familiar school board, only much better.

Modern slate paints have high performance characteristics:

  • create a very hard, abrasion-resistant coating;
  • have high adhesion;
  • They don’t give any shine at all (drawing on such a surface is a pleasure);
  • after drying - fireproof and non-toxic, suitable for use in children's rooms;
  • easy to clean with soapy water (removing annoying chalk patterns is not a problem at all);
  • Easy to apply and dries quickly.

On a note! Chalkboard paints are sold in cans (for application with a brush or roller) and in cans (for easy painting of geometrically complex surfaces).

Manufacturers offer ready-made emulsions of the most different colors. Thus, Siberia paint is available in gray, burgundy, brown, black and dark green. Tikkurila offers those who wish to tint the colorless base into one of the three hundred shades of the branded palette. And Rust-Oleum has a completely transparent slate coating. It can be applied to any colored surface in the house.

What to paint under the slate

Chalkboard paints can be used throughout the home:

  1. In the nursery.
  2. If you install a large board here or paint over an entire wall with chalkboard, children will have a place to create and learn. And the rest of the walls in the house will be completely safe. In the kitchen. The individual slates look very nice here, kitchen aprons

    , painted kitchen cabinet doors. You can write recipes, menus, reminders, shopping lists, and simply declarations of love for each other on them.

  3. Important! Some paints become discolored by hot grease, so they should not be applied near a stove. In the hall. U front door
  4. It’s convenient to leave messages at home about what needs to be done or taken when leaving home. And next to the landline telephone, a slate panel will replace a notebook. For decorating individual items . Slate kitchen trays look great, cutting boards

A variety of materials can be painted to look like lead:

  • wood, chipboard, MDF, fiberboard;
  • metal;
  • plaster;
  • drywall;
  • brick;
  • glass;
  • ceramics.

All slate paints are intended for interior works. They do not tolerate low temperatures.

Dyeing technology

Chalkboard paint is very easy to use. Anyone can paint a wall or make a cute note board with their own hands.

The painting procedure is as follows:

  1. The surface to be painted should be cleaned of old coatings. If necessary, it is leveled with putty or sanded, and then washed to remove dust and dried.
  2. To ensure that the paint lies evenly, the surface underneath is primed and dried. Ideally, you should use a special primer for slate paints.
  3. To create a neat slate rectangle on the wall or refrigerator door, cover the surface around the perimeter with masking tape.
  4. The emulsion is mixed well and applied in several layers. Each layer must be completely dry before the next one is applied. Painting should be done in a ventilated area with an air temperature of +10°C and humidity up to 85%.

    Advice! Slate paints harden quickly, so you need to work with them quickly.

  5. 24 hours after applying the last layer, calcium carbonate chalk is rubbed into the dried surface. The excess is wiped off with a soft cloth.
  6. It remains to wait another 48 hours until the emulsion is completely cured, and the board or wall can be used for its intended purpose.

Wash the slate surface with soap or other household chemicals possible only a month after dyeing.

Factory emulsion is sold in cans and jars of 0.5 and 1 liter. But many simply do not need such an amount of material. In this case, paint with a chalkboard effect can be made with your own hands. It's much cheaper.

First way

All you need is:

  • Any acrylic paint – 1 cup.
  • Cement (regular “clean” or any cement mixture) - 2 tablespoons.

The ingredients are thoroughly mixed and inexpensive chalkboard paint is ready.

On a note! Dolomite or marble chips. A homemade cement mixture will not provide such a durable coating. It will get scratched faster.

The most difficult and interesting thing in this matter is choosing the color of the emulsion. Many people don't like traditional dark shades. In this case, you can use other colors on which the chalk pattern will be visible. Light, faded, pastel shades are excluded immediately. But it will be almost as convenient to draw on a bright background as on a dark one. Great options– bright red, rich purple, grass green, deep blue.

The slate wall does not have to be black; any color of rich tones can be used for painting

It will be very interesting if you use several slate panels of different colors in the interior at once.

Second way

Before you make slate paint using this recipe, you should make sure that you already have everything you need on hand. If you have to buy each ingredient, then it may be cheaper to immediately purchase a ready-made factory emulsion.

To prepare about 50 ml of slate paint you will need:

  • 3 tbsp. l. acrylic paint desired color;
  • 1 tbsp. l matte acrylic varnish;
  • 1 tbsp. l. (without a slide) cement, cement putty or grout for ceramic tiles;
  • 1 tbsp. l water.

First, grout powder or cement is placed in the container - it will provide a rough surface. Then add paint, which will give the finished mixture the desired color, and varnish (it will make the emulsion more plastic). Now all that remains is to add water and mix everything very thoroughly.

Important! The mixture should be well mixed. If there are lumps in the mixture, they will ruin the painted surface.

Do-it-yourself slate paint is applied in the same way as store-bought paint. It is given time to dry and harden before applying the chalk designs.

Don’t forget about careful use of finished surfaces. Despite their high wear resistance, slate panels are easily scratched by hard, sharp objects. Therefore, it is not recommended to draw on them with cheap “school” chalk mixed with sand and pebbles. And if you use soft crayons and wash the drawings with a soft wet cloth, the slate coverings will decorate the interior for a long time and serve as a convenient field for creativity.
