Friends, I decided to share my experience of independent design and assembly of furniture from chipboard. I hope it will be useful for beginner furniture DIYers))
The desktop, at least for me, is the most important piece of furniture in the house, so it should be as convenient and functional as possible.

Well, let's go)).

Design.

As usual, the idea was stolen by me on the Internet, I was inspired by this project from a certain Mashstudios (http://iconsumption.ru/note/3725):

I liked the compactness of the design, the lack of legs and the space for placing drawers in the table, because I always lack them)

But of course, it was necessary to creatively rework all this, taking into account their Wishlist:

1. A bunch of sockets should be built into the table, the more the better - a table lamp, a laptop, a phone - all this requires power. By the way, Mashstudios somehow didn’t take care of this - what does this Apple in the photo eat from?
2. The table itself should have as many drawers as possible for all sorts of things that take up space on an ordinary wide table - papers, notebooks, tools, wires, etc. All this should be closed from the penetration of dust - I don’t know how it is with you, but my dust settles on surfaces in a week.
3. The presence of a cork panel above the table to attach various things to it that should be in front of your eyes - reminders, work schedules, business cards, etc. Well, as in American thrillers, when detectives get to the home of a maniac - his entire wall is filled with various documents and photos with victims, and then everything finally becomes clear to them). In short, something like this, only in a good way).

Design.

With the project decided, we proceed to design.
For designing, I use Google SketchUp, I like it for the convenience and ease of entry for a beginner - I don’t want to study any professional CAD or furniture editor to get a simple 3D model with dimensions. This is a paid program, but a trial period is usually enough for me)

I made a table from chipboard 16 mm thick, which I cut to my size.
If you have never designed chipboard furniture on your own, but you want to, then do not be afraid, do it, I only advise you to pay attention to a few points:

1. Always keep in mind that chipboard parts are edged (an edge is glued to the ends of the parts), which increases their size. The edge is 0.5 mm and 2 mm.
2. Cutting firms cut at least 1 sheet of chipboard, as a rule, it is 2750x1830 mm in size. You can not fill out the sheet completely, but no one will return the money for half the sheet to you - or they will simply give it out in the form of scraps or it will go to heat them on long winter evenings) Therefore, try to fill the sheet with 90 percent - the cutting machine also needs some indentation from the edges of the sheet. By the way, the table in the end did not take up the entire sheet and I decided to supplement it with a dumbbell shelf, which I had long wanted.
3. Milling for fittings is relatively expensive, so where you can do without it, it's better to do it. For example, in this project, it was possible to fix the upper tabletop using the so-called "eccentrics" - but milling the grooves for them would increase the cost of cutting by a thousand rubles, so I decided to get by with furniture corners, with a total cost of 70 rubles.
3. Sheets come in different thicknesses - 10, 16, 18, 22 mm. If you want to combine chipboard of different thicknesses and colors in a project, keep in mind that there will be separate full-fledged sheets for each thickness and color. That is why good factory furniture is usually richer in a variety of materials than home-made furniture - a factory can use several types of furniture due to its mass character.

In SketchUp, the following happened:

After designing, you should have a list of parts with their dimensions, quantity, and an indication of which ends of the parts need to be edged.

I made the table with a depth of 45 cm. This may not be enough, but I was always afraid that the fastening of the table top to the chipboard on the wall might not withstand and crack, now, according to the sensations from the rigidity of the resulting structure, I can say that it was quite possible to make 50 cm, but not more. Actually, for the same reason of facilitating the design, I decided to make the drawers of the table from plywood 7 mm thick.

Order and export.

The order went smoothly, the competent employee quickly entered and calculated everything. The order was promised to be completed in ten days and they did it. The only mistake of the cutters, which I encountered for the first time in several years of cooperation with this company, was that both facades of the hanging box were undercut and I had to bring them back for correction. Therefore, I advise you to check at least the most important details upon acceptance. Firms, as a rule, never deny their mistakes and fix them, it just takes extra time.
Since the largest part was 1200x500 mm, we managed to take everything out on our own Honda Fit. By the way, the issue of exporting an order must also be worked out in advance if the parts are large or there is no transport of their own - Lamart, for example, does not provide its delivery services, but they can give the phones of familiar truck drivers.
The cost of cutting with the material turned out to be 6000 rubles. Another total of about 1000 rubles. went to fittings - roller guides for drawers, sockets, furniture handles.
I took the fittings partially in Leroy Merlin (he opened a year ago right next to my house), on the lane. Sports 4, in Bayard. These are building stores in Khabarovsk.

Assembly.

Assembly took place at home. If you have the opportunity to make all the holes, milling somewhere outside the house, it is better to do so, because no matter how hard you try, there will be a lot of sawdust and dust. A few photos of the most important assembly steps:

Cables for electrical outlets are laid in channels made by a milling cutter. A milling cutter was bought from me a long time ago to carry out repairs in an apartment, but in fact it turned out to be very rarely needed. Now I would take it from friends or rent it only for the time of work.

Attachment to the wall, installation of sockets. The height from the floor of the upper surface of the tabletop turned out to be 73 cm, the bottom - 60 cm. For my height (167 cm), the leg opening under the tabletop is enough, taller people may have problems:

Well, here's what happened in the end:

Some unfaithful acquaintances had doubts whether this table could withstand more or less a lot of weight. Well, of course, it’s still not worth getting on it and doing other things that are not provided for on it)). The heaviest thing that can stand on it is a laptop. But just in case, I did a test - a total of 20 kg of weight on the table:

A piece of timber that is needed for the bottom strut. Its length should reach 74 cm (4 by 3.5 cm).
Self-tapping screws in three different sizes: 3.5 by 16 in the amount of 45 pieces to secure the corners; 4.2 by 65 in the amount of six pieces to secure the sides; 3.5 by 51 in the amount of eight pieces to fasten the carrier frame.

Making a countertop

Remember that before you start making a kitchen table from chipboard with your own hands, you need to carefully study the drawings, since standard schemes will greatly facilitate your work.

Sand the chipboard using sandpaper.
Round off all four corners of the plate. You need to cut the desired shape with an electric jigsaw. Then set aside the finished countertop.
Assemble a frame that is designed to increase the strength of the countertop and prevent it from sagging.
Take four pieces of timber for the thrust frame, then join them and screw in the screws. The easiest connection option will be fastening with furniture metal corners.

Making side racks

Take a sheet of chipboard (the size should be 74 by 46 centimeters), step back ten centimeters from the long side and draw a horizontal line across the entire width of the plate.
In the same way, mark the second edge, then from the lines that turned out, make marks in the form of identical ovals on both sides and cut them out.
After that, on one long side from the beginning of the plate to the horizontally drawn strip, make a round cutout in the center (for the lower side stand of the table).
The second rack is made in the same way.

How to assemble the right kitchen table

Lay the countertop on a flat surface (preferably on the floor).
Step back from each of the long sides by eleven and a half centimeters, draw horizontal stripes across the entire width.
Divide them in half and make marks to make the center of the slab.
Then take the frame and mark the center of the frame width in the same way, then bring the marks together and center them.
When the frame lies exactly in the middle of the tabletop, screw it on using self-tapping screws in four sections (3.5 by 51).
Make marks in the center width on the side posts, connect them in the center of the table top. Then fix the racks to the frame using self-tapping screws (3.5 by 16), as well as furniture corners.
After assembling the racks, insert the lower thrust bar, which is longer than the frame for a small strut of the legs. The thrust rack is also fastened with the help of corners.
For strength, drive two self-tapping screws (4.2 by 65) to the top of the side posts where they contact the frame. This is done from the outside. The same process should be carried out with the support bar.

How to make a table from chipboard with your own hands: step-by-step assembly instructions with explanations

Are you planning to build a table that is beautiful, durable and comfortable to use? It is not difficult to assemble such furniture, provided that it is made of chipboard. I offer a simple step-by-step instruction for making a stylish modern table. In addition, I will talk about what chipboard is and what you need to know when working with this material.

Determine the shape and dimensions

The configuration and dimensions of the table determine its functional purpose. Again, it depends on the dimensions and shape in which rooms it is advisable to install and operate this furniture. Depending on the functional purpose of the tables, their standard sizes are provided.

The advantage of self-assembly lies in the possibility of manufacturing furniture not according to the standard, but in accordance with individual preferences and anthropomorphic features of a person.

	simple desk. This modification in the classic version has a standard height of 700-800 mm. Table top length from 1200 mm and more, width 600 mm. The working part has a rectangular shape, for safe operation the corners can be rounded.
	Corner table. Such a modification can be one-piece with a tabletop made of a single chipboard board or a composite one assembled from two separate parts located at right angles to each other. L-shaped furniture is often used as a computer double table in office and study rooms. However, the corner table is often used as a dining table in small kitchens. Corner structures are produced with a standard height, the only difference from other modifications is the smaller width of the tabletop.
	Furniture for kitchen. Modifications oriented for placement in the kitchen can be free-standing, wall-mounted and corner. The width and length of different models may vary while the height remains standard between 750 and 800 mm. Standardization of height not only ensures the comfort of using furniture, but also allows you to harmoniously fit the table into the surroundings of the kitchen.

Pick up tools and materials

Select materials. For the manufacture of furniture, two types of chipboard are used - chipboard and chipboard. Chipboard is a chipboard without external finishing, and LDSP is a board laminated with a protective decorative coating.

When choosing materials, we prefer chipboard, since it is not easy to laminate chipboard on your own. The optimal chipboard thickness for assembling household furniture is 18 mm.

In addition to the base material, you will need an edge tape for gluing the end cut of the tabletop. The use of edge tape is due not only to aesthetic considerations, but also to environmental safety.

Despite the fact that modern particle boards comply with class E1, in order to minimize formaldehyde emissions, chipboard should be covered on all sides with vinyl or other sealed coatings. By gluing the end of the tabletop and other parts in the table structure with an edge, we reduce the likelihood of fumes and make the atmosphere in our home healthier.

Select instruments. To work with particle boards, you will need a standard set of carpentry tools, namely a circular saw for longitudinal and end cuts, an electric drill with a set of drills, a screwdriver, a milling cutter. In addition to carpentry tools, you will need an iron for gluing the edge tape.

Select Fastener. In addition to materials and tools, you will need fasteners with which you can assemble the table. Traditional fasteners for assembling furniture from chipboard are confirmations (self-tapping screws with an increased thread pitch), corners (L-shaped mounting plates), wood screws, wooden dowels, carpentry glue.

To make a table with a surface without additional cladding

In order to make a table completely from chipboard, we follow the step-by-step instructions exactly. The upcoming work can be divided into the following stages: drawing selection, cutting material into parts, furniture assembly and finishing of the finished structure.

	Select Drawing. There are many varieties of chipboard tables, but if the assembly is performed for the first time, I recommend stopping at a simple option. The drawing shows a home table, which, despite its simple design, looks stylish, modern and at the same time is highly durable. The design has standard dimensions, the distance from the top of the countertop to the floor is 80 cm, which means that such furniture can be used when arranging a kitchen, living room or office.
	Making parts from chipboard. In accordance with the drawing, we perform cutting of chipboard. The table top, elements of the lower frame and frame of the table top, elements in the design of the supports are cut out.
	Assemble the countertop. The shield, prepared for assembling the countertop, is laid on a flat surface. A frame of transverse and longitudinal slats is attached along the perimeter of the shield. Fasteners are made with 25 mm wood screws. Holes with a diameter of 5 mm are drilled along the perimeter of the workpiece in increments of 20 cm for fastening the reinforcing frame.
	Attach edging tape. The end edge of the tabletop is cleaned of wood dust. Then, an edge tape is applied over the end, warmed up and smoothed out. Since the total thickness of our worktop is 18 18 = 36 mm, we use 40 mm edge tape, cut off the excess along the edge with a sharp knife.
	Make blanks for fastening. We insert minifix eccentric fasteners into the previously drilled holes, on which the tabletop frame will be fixed.
	Assemble the reinforcing frame. We assemble a frame from previously prepared parts, which will be attached from the bottom of the tabletop. On the inside of the frame, we drill recesses for the counterpart of the eccentric fastening. We drill holes so that their center coincides with the location of the fasteners at the bottom of the tabletop.
	Make side racks. We assemble 4 supports from chipboard strips with a width of 100 mm. The assembly of parts is carried out on confirmations. The only important condition is that the assembled supports on the cross section must form a right angle.
	Attach supports to frame. At the corners of the frame, we closely lean the previously prepared supports and fasten them to the self-tapping screws. In order not to spoil the appearance of the table, we screw the screws from the inside of the frame. For each support we make fasteners from 10 self-tapping screws.
	work with plastic. In the design of modern furniture, plastic parts cannot be dispensed with. In our case, we fasten plastic pads to the ends of the supports. Installation of overlays is carried out with self-tapping screws 25 mm long.
	Attach the frame to the tabletop. The frame with fixed supports is installed on top of the prepared countertop. The counterpart of the eccentric connection is inserted into the holes in the frame. Next, the minifixes previously installed in the countertop are threaded into the holes in the frame. The eccentrics are scrolled with a screwdriver fixing the minifixes.
	finish assembly. At the final stage of assembly, we close the holes made for fasteners with decorative plugs.

When choosing a material, buy the highest density chipboard you can find. The denser the plate, the easier and smoother it is to cut and the easier it is to grind afterwards. Dense material is heavier and can be distinguished by this feature.

The cutting of particle board is carried out in a dry room. This is due to the fact that wood chips absorb moisture and when cutting raw material will exfoliate and crack along the edge.

For cutting chipboard, we use cutting tools with a small size of unset teeth. If there is no special cutting power tool, we use a manual hacksaw for metal. When cutting material, the hacksaw blade is lubricated with machine oil.

We drill holes only with sharp drills. First, we drill a small diameter hole, and then expand it to the required diameter.

If you are working with chipboard for the first time, there is a reason to order cutting materials from the seller for an extra charge. That is, when buying material, you give your drawings and get a ready-made kit, from which it remains to assemble furniture.

Cover chipboard with your own hands

Suppose you do not have the opportunity to purchase laminated particle boards, but there are ordinary chipboards without a decorative coating. How to finish the plates on top so that they are both beautiful and environmentally friendly?

Current methods:

Paint. Plates with a granular texture are puttied, leveled, primed and painted with a continuous layer of paint.
Wrap with vinyl. This method involves performing the same steps as when painting, only instead of paintwork materials, a layer of vinyl self-adhesive is applied.
wallpaper. The chipboard countertop is primed and dense vinyl wallpaper is glued on top. If the wallpaper is paper, a protective layer of varnish will have to be applied on top of them.

Restoring a table from chipboard

Sooner or later, the laminated coating on particle boards wears out, scratches and eventually requires restoration. Among the common ways to repair old tables made of chipboard, I note the following:

Fix minor cosmetic blemishes. Small scratches can not be leveled, but only painted over with a pencil or felt-tip pen matched to the tone.
Partially color. If the chipboard finish is a solid color, simply match the spray paint to match and apply it over the cosmetic defect.
Repaint furniture completely. If most of the table is worn and looks unpresentable, wash the surface with solvent and paint in a couple of continuous layers.
Upgrade with vinyl sticker. This is a very simple and effective way - buy the self-adhesive that you like and evenly paste over the surface of the table.

Self-adhesive is thin and with poor surface preparation, defects will show through the film. Therefore, before restoration, it is necessary to thoroughly clean and level the rough surface.

An electric jigsaw is an indispensable tool that allows you to create details of original shapes.

A hair dryer and an iron are needed when pasting the edges of curly and straight ends of elements.

Chipboard or chipboard (plain and laminated boards).
Ordinary cutting board.
Glued board.
Wooden beam.

In the manufacture of tables, you can use a combination of 2-3 materials listed in the list.

Production of parts from chipboard

To make a simple chipboard table for the kitchen, you will need to prepare the material and apply the markup in this order:

The table top is the largest element of the table, so you need to start with it. In the simplest version, it should be rectangular, you can round the corners.
The legs of the table are made in the form of a chess rook, the round cut is located at the bottom. If you wish, you can create your own form. Do not forget only one main condition - all racks should not protrude from under the countertop. They must also be sustainable. Draw the leg template on thick cardboard.
Mark the upper and lower crossbars that connect all the racks to each other. With the help of these crossbars, the strength of the table top and the stability of the entire structure are increased. When manufacturing, it must be taken into account that the lower crossbar has a width 2 times greater than the upper one. The bottom can be either straight or wavy.

When marking, keep in mind that all legs should be located about 15-20 cm from the edges of the tabletop.

After you have finished the markup, you can start cutting out the elements. To do this, follow these steps:

Place a sheet of chipboard on a flat table.
Using an electric jigsaw, you need to cut the countertop. To avoid chips on the reverse side, you need to put a piece of plywood under the cut line.
Cut out the rest of the elements of the kitchen table in the same way. Please note that when working, sagging of the sheet should not be allowed - this can lead to the fact that the saw will be clamped and the part will collapse.
All elements of the table must be processed with a grinder and sandpaper.

Having made all the elements, install the racks with clamps on the countertop and evaluate the appearance, make adjustments if necessary.

Press the tape with a heated iron to stick it to the end of the element.

Equalize the width of the tape and the end of the part. Remove excess with a knife.

The tape does not need to be glued to all elements, only to visible areas.

Methods for fastening blanks from chipboard to each other

Confirmates are used as fasteners. But they need a drill of a special design, select it according to the length and diameter. The hole for confirmation has a different diameter for the cap and the top. To cover the hole, purchase plastic caps.

You will also need to use the following types of fasteners when making a kitchen table from chipboard (chipboard):

Self-tapping screws 4x16 and 4x50.
Furniture corners 30x30.
Dowels (wooden) 8x40. Under them, you need to drill holes in advance.
The edges are laminated (choose according to the color of your laminated chipboard sheet).

Do-it-yourself chipboard coating methods

After assembling the table, the question arises of how to decorate it. The main condition for the countertop is that it should not absorb liquid. Otherwise, the board will swell, the entire surface will become wavy, which will affect not only convenience, but also appearance. If desired, you can laminate the kitchen table from chipboard. It is easy to do it with your own hands.

But it's easier to paint on the table. To do this, you will need a primer, paint and varnish. The first layer must be applied primer - it will allow the paint to better lie on the surface. Paint should be applied only after the primer is completely dry.

To make the appearance as attractive as possible, it is necessary to apply 2-3 layers of paint. How to paint a chipboard kitchen table - decide for yourself. Choose the color that dominates your kitchen. After the paint has dried, apply 1-2 coats of varnish.

What do you do with old furniture?

The role of the kitchen table in everyday life is difficult to overestimate. It is considered the main attribute in the kitchen, and not without reason - after all, it is at the table that the whole family most often gathers, celebrating various events that take place in life.

Speaking of kitchen tables, the dining table most often comes to mind. However, kitchen tables are used not only for a feast and differ in their functions. So, the bar table perfectly divides the space into zones. It can be used as a dining room for a small number of people, usually 2-3 people. It is especially relevant when you need to save space. The sink table serves as the basis for embedding the sink.

Thinking about purchasing a kitchen table, you can consider the possibility of making it yourself. This option, firstly, will save some money. Secondly, surprise guests with the original shape of the product, unusual design or decoration method. Thirdly, to master the skills of carpentry. And, of course, enjoy the work done and the final result.

Kinds

Tables differ in execution options: classic, folding, transformer, corner, folding or hanging, retractable. At will and need, the table can be with a cabinet or with drawers. The choice of execution option depends primarily on the size of the kitchen and the semantic load.

materials

The materials from which the table can be made are striking in their diversity and require a clear idea of themselves.

For this purpose, arrays of various tree species, such as oak, coniferous trees, are suitable. If a beginner is going to be involved in production, then pine is perfect, as it is much easier to process. Solid wood furniture is considered "capricious" and requires special treatment. It can fade under the influence of direct sunlight, absorb odors, it is badly affected by changes in humidity and temperature. The positive aspects of this material are environmental friendliness, durability. Solid wood furniture looks very elegant and expensive.

Chipboard- a material that is quite common and very often used for the manufacture of furniture. Produced from dry wood chips and resin by pressing. Among the minuses, one can single out environmental insecurity. Plus - relatively inexpensive cost.
MDF is considered a more environmentally friendly material compared to chipboard, but is also more expensive. It is obtained by mixing wood shavings with carbide resins modified with melamine and pressing them. Minus - it is highly flammable, while even rapidly incandescent objects, not to mention open flames, pose a potential risk of ignition.
An alternative to chipboard and MDF can be furniture board. It has a relatively inexpensive cost. It is a durable and environmentally friendly material. It consists of glued bars, pulled together by a press.

Metal can also be used to make a table. Most often, stainless steel is used for these purposes. The cost of such material is quite high, and a cold surface will require the use of tablecloths or napkins. However, the sparkling appearance of such an attribute is sure to attract everyone's attention.

Dimensions and shape

The most common form is rectangular. A rectangular table is convenient in that it can accommodate a fairly large number of people, while requiring less usable space than a round one. It can be easily pushed against the wall. But due to sharp corners, both rectangular and square options are considered the most dangerous.

Round- claims a usable area 1.5-2 times greater than the area that is needed for a rectangular table, designed for the same number of people. It is believed that the round table is stronger than other forms to create a feeling of comfort in the room.

To make a solid wood table, you will need the following tools: a planer, a grinder or grinder, an electric jigsaw, a circular saw, a drill (with a 6-8 mm drill), a screwdriver, sandpaper, self-tapping screws (30-35 mm), wood glue, dowels, clamps, pencil, tape measure, gloves and goggles.
It is necessary to buy supports (legs) for the table, which can be different - from ordinary rectangular to curly ones.
For a countertop 80 cm wide, you will need four boards 120 centimeters long. They must be dry.
For smoothness, the countertop must be sanded well. Joints must be processed in such a way as to achieve full contact with each other.
To avoid deformation of the countertop from excessive moisture, you need to lay the boards with a pattern towards each other. To connect the boards you will need dowels.
At the ends of the boards that will be connected, make holes with an 8 cm drill. The distance of the holes from each other should be 10-15 cm. Then these places must be sanded and greased with glue on the end, holes and dowels. Drive the dowels into the holes and thus connect the tabletop. Excess adhesive must be removed.
Using screws and glue, it is necessary to connect the transverse and longitudinal boards with legs. We make two holes in the longitudinal boards on top, they will be useful for attaching the table top. Wait 12 hours. Install tabletop.

Cover the finished product with varnish, paint or stain. When using a stain, you need to take into account some nuances - choose the right thinner (if you don’t have enough experience, you need to use a slow thinner), the surface to be treated should be evenly sanded, it is important to properly adjust the gun (the torch should be oval and the applied layer should overlap the already applied half).

Traditionally, dowels are used to make wooden furniture. Such a connection is not visible and has a low cost.

For tables made of wood, it is appropriate to use wooden dowels, as they dry out at the same time in this case. For chipboard, it is better to use plastic ones, since chipboard practically does not shrink.

But it can be difficult for inexperienced craftsmen to achieve the most accurate calculation when planning holes for dowels. Therefore, euroscrews or confirmations are an alternative to them. Of course, this increases the cost of the product somewhat, but facilitates manufacturing.

A kitchen table made of laminated chipboard with metal legs can be a fairly budget solution.

A chipboard sheet can currently be easily bought in the right size, or cut it yourself. The most common, plastic top coating makes the countertop sufficiently resistant to abrasion.

Be sure to lay the sealant in both the edging and the top edge of the countertop. Remove excess sealant. There is a special solvent designed to clean surfaces from such materials. Using self-tapping screws, install the holders and put the legs on them.

It should be noted that such a table can be made quite easily and quickly.

The following method allows not only to assemble a modern model of a wooden table without huge costs, but also to remake an old tabletop.

This will require unnecessary boards of the same size, carpentry glue and three clamps.
The boards must be laid out on the work surface so that the middle of the board to be laid is at the junction of the two previous ones.
Using wood glue and clamps, you need to fasten the boards together. Then align the edges and sand the surface. Sand the edges and cuts.
