How to measure mosquito nets. Sizes of a mosquito net for plastic windows How to calculate the size of a mosquito net

When installing plastic windows, many people seek to save on mosquito nets, especially if installation is carried out in the fall. Also, there are breakdowns of the frame of an existing product. In any case, when the period of insect activity begins, it becomes necessary to acquire a saving barrier.

Mosquitoes are rarely standardized in size, since the dimensions of the installed plastic windows are individual. For this reason, the following solutions to the problem are possible:

  1. Order a mosquito net from the company where the windows were ordered.
  2. Call an engineer for measurements, which will take some time and require additional costs.
  3. Measure the mosquito net on the plastic window yourself.

The most convenient option is self-measurement.

Types of fasteners for mosquito nets

Structurally, mosquito nets have a simple structure: a fiberglass net with a 1 mm cell, fixed on an aluminum frame. But these products are different in the way they are installed.

Mesh attachment may vary depending on the manufacturer and can be of the following types:

  • Plunger. The most popular type of attachment, which is considered the most durable and effective. The frame of the mosquito net is fixed using spring-loaded pins, which provide a reliable and tight fixation of the mosquito.
  • Z-shaped. This type is considered the second most popular. In this case, the mosquito is attached to the window frame using special metal brackets that provide a snug fit. The fasteners are quite reliable, but over time it can loosen, which will lead to the appearance of cracks.
  • "Pockets". Such fasteners are used quite rarely, since they do not provide a snug fit of the mesh to the window frame. In this case, measurements are performed with a margin.

Measurements for meshes with plunger fastening

The installation of such a grid is possible if the outer bevel of the window frame does not have a rounded shape or too large an angle of inclination, otherwise the groove for the pin will not ensure reliable fixation of the product.

You will need a tape measure to measure the window. It is necessary to open the window sash and measure the light opening. The measurement is carried out along the edge of the seal, which is installed on all plastic windows. Results must be recorded to the nearest millimeter. From the obtained width and height, 6 mm must be subtracted to provide enough space for installing the mosquito frame.

Measuring for z-mounted meshes

The calculation of dimensions for this type of mesh is carried out similarly to the previous one, but 20 millimeters must be added to the measurement results obtained.

When using such grids, it must be taken into account that it is mounted outside the window, therefore, there must be enough space for installation. Difficulties during installation can be caused by closely spaced slopes or a window grill mounted near the window. In such cases, it is recommended to use a mesh with a plunger fastening.

Measurements for nets with fastening in "pockets"

Previously, this type of fastening was the most common, however, more effective fastener methods have replaced it. Plastic "pockets" are mounted outside the window at the corners of the light opening. Such fasteners are not able to ensure a snug fit of the mesh to the window frame, therefore it is not recommended for use.

If, nevertheless, there is a need to use this particular fastener, then the measurements of the opening are carried out in the same way as in the case of the z-mount.

The best option to install a mosquito net on a plastic window is to order and install it in one set with plastic windows. If this was not done on time, and the mosquito has to be ordered separately, carefully study the very design of the window and the swing sash. When the time comes for the order, you can give an exhaustive answer to the questions of the master about the device and the size of the grid for plastic windows and the fastening device, saving time and money.

How a mosquito net is installed

Before puzzling over how to measure a mosquito net on a plastic window, you need to find out which design of the mosquito net you prefer:

  • Roller mesh in the form of a sheet rolled up on a stationary mount in the upper part of the window frame;
  • Door type mosquito net. The mosquito net is stretched over a thin aluminum frame, fixed in the window opening with canopies;
  • Frame or frame type of mosquito net, the cheapest and most popular among owners of plastic windows.

Roller shutter systems are just becoming fashionable today, most companies are reluctant to install mosquito nets of such a system. In contrast to the frame or door scheme, the rolling mechanism for feeding and folding the mesh uses a fabric with a special finish on the edges, which ensures the durability of the plastic anti-mosquito.

If a decision is made to use a roller shutter structure, when ordering, inform the master of the size of the window and how the measurement was carried out. Most often, contractors require to measure the width and height of the window clearance, as well as the width of the horizontal top and bottom crossbars of the window frame.

The door type of mosquito net is used for plastic windows that open outwards, this is a rather rare scheme, and if there is a need to install this type of mosquito net, then it is better to use the services of a specialist. In this case, it is important not only to correctly measure the dimensions of the window opening, but also to correctly determine where and which canopies can be fixed to the frame.

The frame version of the mosquito net is the simplest, the frame with the mesh cloth can be installed on almost any window, if the outer slopes left a margin of free space around the frame perimeter of at least 30 mm.

How to measure for installing a mosquito net

For the frame type of the mosquito, all measurements and calculation of the canvas can be done by hand, and if you have carpentry skills and an understanding of the installation technology, you can even make the frame for the mosquito net yourself. But first, you need to accurately determine the main parameters for installation:

  1. What type of mosquito net can be installed on the plastic window frame;
  2. Find out what kind of mount is suitable for installing a mosquito;
  3. Measure the parameters and dimensions of the window frame according to the diagram below.

Important! It is necessary to measure the window, more precisely, the size from the elastic band to the elastic band of the frame, and not the hinged sash of a plastic window.

Choose the size of the mosquito net and fastening

To better understand the technology of marking and installing a mosquito net, it is worthwhile to understand the main thing - the internal size of the frame frame with a stretched mosquito net must exactly match the light opening of the window. That is, the aluminum mesh frame should not overlap the window light opening.

Therefore, when calculating the dimensions, it is required to measure exactly the size of the window opening. Next, to the resulting height and width, add the width of the profile on which the frame will be stretched. Thus, the dimensions of the frame for the future mosquito net will be +22 mm high, +15 mm wide. The width of the transverse profile of the frame is 22 mm, the width of the vertical profile is 10 mm.

To make it easier to understand exactly how a frame with a mosquito net looks on a plastic window, you can look at the window frames on the first floor of a building with a basement. The first floor is especially affected by the invasion of insects, so if you wish, you can see a wide variety of mosquito designs.

After you managed to measure and calculate the dimensions of the future mosquito frame, you need to find out if the aluminum frame with the mosquito will fit on the outside of the window frame. To do this, you just need to measure the width of the vertical and horizontal strips on the outside of the window block.

If the slopes are made according to the “liberal”, sparing scheme, then all the plastic of the outer cladding remained open, but if the window block turned out to be slightly recessed into the wall plaster, the uncovered width of the planks could decrease by 10-15 mm. This means that there may simply not be enough space for mounting fasteners on the outside of the frame.

Mesh and frame fastening

You can install the frame on the frame using two mounting options - Z-shaped and pocket type. The installation diagram and dimensions of the clamping mounts are shown in the photo. It remains to measure the width of the crossbars and compare with the data in the diagram. To fix the mosquito net with the Z-clamp on the outside of the frame, the width of the cross profile must be at least 26-30 mm. For a pocket-type mount, the requirements are about the same.

Most craftsmen solve the issue of checking the possibility of installing fasteners even more simply, instead of measuring the width, they immediately check the distance by applying one Z-shaped or pocket clamp to the frame.

Most installers are sure that the Z-mount holds the mesh better, but in practice, the strength of the fixation also depends on the quality of the profile from which the frame is made. Most often, after 3-5 installations, the central plastic handles come off, for which the frame is held at the moment of fixation on the window. Along with the handles, the mosquito net is also torn.

The mesh itself is attached to the frame with a rubber cord, which makes it easy to replace the damaged canvas if necessary.

Possible without the help of a measuring specialist (see note at the bottom of the article)*. To do this, you will need a tape measure and a little time.

DETERMINATION OF THE SIZES OF MOSQUITO NETS ON Z-FASTENING, DOOR, ROLL

Grids of these types are installed with an overlap to the frame from the outside of the window. The finished structure should go onto the frame and completely cover the opening of the open sash. It is very simple to determine the dimensions of the future anti-mosquito net: you need to measure the total outer height and width of the light opening and add the corresponding coefficient to the resulting figures:

  • grids on z-fasteners (standard): +4 cm to height and width;
  • mosquito doors made of lightweight profile: +5 cm to height and width;
  • mosquito-proof doors made of reinforced profile: +7 cm to height and width;
  • roll nets (standard): +5 cm on top, +2 cm on the bottom, +4 on the sides;
  • roll nets (Italian): +4 cm on top, +3 cm on the bottom, +4 on the sides.

Before ordering a mosquito net, make sure that there is enough space on the outside of the window frame to install it.

DETERMINATION OF THE ROD MOSQUITO NET

Grids of this type can only be installed on windows with double-glazed windows. The structure is mounted inside the recess between the protrusions. The outer bevel of the frame should not be too rounded and strong.
To determine the dimensions of the mosquito net, it is necessary to measure the width of the light opening between the outer protrusions on the frame and subtract one centimeter from the obtained data. For example, if the measured height is 140 cm, the width is 40 cm, then the mesh size is 139 cm and 39 cm. When the mesh is installed, there should be a 5 mm gap around its perimeter for a special sealing brush.

VIDEO BY MEASUREMENT

WHEN IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO INSTALL A MOSKITO NET

THE GRILLE IS INSTALLED ON THE WINDOW

In the case when the grille is installed very close to the window frame (up to 6 cm), it will be possible to install only the rod mosquito net without any problems. Some inconvenience will be delivered by installing a grid on z-mounts. Most likely, you will have to abandon the rolled mosquito net, since its box has a depth of 4-6 cm and may simply not fit in the space between the grill and the window.

FRAME CLOSED WITH A CONCRETE QUARTER

On windows where the distances necessary for the installation of mosquito nets are closed by a concrete quarter of the opening, only a rod net can be installed.

SINGLE-SHUTTER DRAWN WINDOW WITH EXTERIOR WALLS

On single-sash windows recessed into the wall, you can install any type of mesh, except for mesh on z-fasteners.

OLD WOODEN JOINERY WINDOWS

In view of the peculiarities of such windows, the installation of a rod mosquito net, as well as nets on z-fasteners, is not possible. It is very difficult to implement, but installation of a rolled mesh is still feasible. However, it costs more than installing mosquito nets on other windows.

KliKa is in no way responsible for self-measurement by the customer.
Phone managers do not teach and do not explain, and also do not advise how to properly measure the future mosquito net.
There are always many nuances of measurement that cannot be spoken and taken into account over the phone!

When ordering from two mosquito nets in our company, we leave and measure completely free of charge (when ordering nets with installation).

If you need to order grids without installation or place an order for only one grid, then we will help you measure this material yourself.

To remove the correct mesh sizes, it is necessary to open the window sash and measure the light opening in the frame in width and height (opening from seal to seal).

In this case, it is better to stick to the lower or upper part of the light opening, since the middle can have a “run-up” of up to 10 mm if the frame is not correctly installed, which can significantly affect the result and the grids may not fit.

40 mm are added to the light opening to the width and height of the light opening, since the aluminum frame from which the mesh frame is made has a width of 20 mm and it covers all possible bends of the profile.

In addition, it is worth paying attention to how much the frame is deepened into the wall of the house from the street, and whether there is the necessary 20mm on each side. If the frame is strongly recessed into the wall and protrudes by less than 20mm, then you can add not 40mm to the light opening, but 30-35mm.

When measuring mosquito doors or measuring mosquitoes on single-leaf windows, it is also necessary to measure the width from wall to wall on the street side, and make sure that the size of the net, after adding to the light opening, is no larger than the opening between the walls. Otherwise, the mesh may not fit into the opening.

These rules for measuring mosquito nets on already installed windows are valid for both plastic and aluminum frames. By following the measurements above, you will be able to take the correct measurements and your mosquito nets will fit perfectly on the windows.

In order not to worry about the size of your grids, you can call our measurer and installer, who will unmistakably take measurements and yours will perfectly fit the windows.

  • Our measurers are experienced in installing windows and will be able to give you professional advice.
  • The measurer is not only a master of his craft, but also a consultant who will tell you about our products
  • You will be able to place an order for the manufacture and installation of mosquito nets immediately after measurement, the measurer will issue you a receipt for the prepayment

"Providal" systems

Firstly this will save you money to pay the measurer (even if they say in other companies that it is free, but nothing is free and it is clear that the work of the measurer must be paid and paid for by your money included in the cost of the product)

Secondly

Your independent measurement will free our masters from wasting time on the road (since the measurement itself takes at most 10 minutes), but the road to you and back can take 2 or more hours. During this time, the master will be able to install the grids already made by us.

Therefore, we welcome independent measurements, and in order for you to measure correctly, we wrotethis page for you.

To begin with, we recall that the sliding mosquito nets of the "Providal" system are installed on special guide rails attached to the glazing frame ( With internal) apartment side. Depending on their length, these skids allow the mosquito net to move along the length of your balcony.

Even if you do not need this, then in this case the guides should be 2 times larger than the width of the mesh, because the mesh must move so as not to tightly close access to the locking mechanism of the window sash. Otherwise, closing the window, the latch will be behind the mosquito net.

So, if your balcony ceiling is not sheathed with siding, clapboard or similar materials, measuring the mosquito net will be reduced to 2 operations.

1. Measurement of the light aperture vertically.

This is the distance from the lower to the upper frame glazing rail. Since the frame has several skids, so that you do not get confused which one to choose when taking a measurement, close all the doors. Now measure the distance between the visible parts of the rail, as shown in the figure.

If the ceiling of your balcony is sheathed and the top rail is not fully visible, measure the distance from the bottom rail to the ceiling. When you inform us of the measurement results (in case you decide that our masters will carry out the installation), be sure to

Please let us know what measurements were taken.

2. Measurement of the overall size of the grid in width.

To do this, move the sash to the stop and measure the width of the resulting opening together with the vertical parts of the sashes adjacent to the opening, as shown in the figure.

Now you can place an order for the production of mosquito nets. If you want to install the net yourself, then read the rules on how to install sliding mosquito nets.

But, if all this seems tiresome to you, call us and we will measure your windows.
