How to overlay a wooden house with bricks with your own hands

A wooden house has a lot of undeniable advantages, the main of which is the environmental friendliness of the building. In addition, the use of natural wood as a building material allows you to create a truly homely warm atmosphere in your home. At the same time, such structures can hardly be called durable, since, despite modern antiseptic and anti-corrosion compounds, the walls wear out quite quickly due to aggressive environmental influences. To ensure their maximum protection, wooden houses are often lined with bricks - a much more durable, reliable and environmentally friendly material.

What you need to do quality work

The creation of such protection is a rather complicated process and requires a responsible approach. First of all, it is necessary to perform an accurate calculation of the materials necessary for the work. These include:

  • brick. You can choose both traditional building stone and silicate or facing clinker;
  • steel reinforcement, which will be required for the construction of the foundation. Brick finish will have a fairly large weight, so you will not be able to do without a solid foundation;
  • cement, crushed stone and sand for mortar preparation.

How to overlay a wooden house with bricks? In this article, we will provide detailed instructions that will facilitate the implementation of this rather complicated procedure.

We equip the foundation

For the strength and reliability of a house lined with bricks, it is best to equip a durable strip foundation, which is built in several stages:

  • along the entire perimeter of the building we dig a trench, the depth of which should reach at least half a meter;
  • we lay a crushed stone pillow and a stove at the bottom of the trench, carefully ramming it;
  • we connect the steel reinforcement in the form of a rectangle and install it on the prepared base;
  • fill the trench with a liquid solution and wait until it gains maximum strength. Usually only 6-7 days is enough.

How to prepare wooden walls

Before bricking the house, you will need to properly prepare the walls for this process.

To do this, you need to follow a few simple steps:

  • along the entire perimeter we eliminate the existing bumps and protrusions;
  • we thoroughly clean the walls from dirt, overgrown moss, ensure their perfect cleanliness;
  • we treat wooden surfaces with antiseptics and compounds that prevent the appearance of mold and fungus on the walls.

It is also desirable to immediately insulate the walls from the outside. As a heat-insulating material, it is better to use mineral wool, which makes it possible to reduce the heat loss of the building, and can also serve for many years without requiring replacement or complex maintenance. Be sure to lay a vapor barrier on the insulation layer, which will remove condensate.

Bricklaying

After performing steam and waterproofing work, you can begin to lay over a wooden house. For this purpose, we need a solution of cement with sand (the proportion is approximately 1: 4). In the process of performing work, you must be guided by the following rules:

  • a distance of 6-10 centimeters must be left between the wooden wall and the brickwork to eliminate possible cold bridges and for effective ventilation, which will prevent mold;
  • in the process of laying out bricks, be sure to control the level with the help of special tools - weights, plumb lines and others;
  • treat all seams with cement mortar or polymer compounds of the selected color.

We should not forget about the jumpers that must be laid at the locations of doors, windows, and other structures. Especially a lot of them will be needed if you want to brick a two-story house. These elements can be made of steel angle or reinforced concrete products.

The technology of facing a wooden house with bricks also involves the use of embedded parts, through which the masonry will be bonded to a wooden base. They must also be made of metal treated with anti-corrosion compounds to extend the service life.

The last stage is the execution of finishing works, for which any modern or traditional materials can be used - plaster, siding, paint that is resistant to any outside influences and others. The choice depends solely on your capabilities and taste preferences.

Is it worth bricking an old wooden house? As practice shows, this approach has many advantages:

  • wooden walls will be maximally protected from aggressive environmental influences;
  • if initially there is no foundation under the building, then you can make it more durable by laying a concrete strip base around the entire perimeter of the house;
  • it becomes possible to qualitatively insulate the walls from the outside and minimize the heat loss of the building, to ensure an optimal climate inside;
  • significantly improves the appearance of the home. Especially if you cover it with aesthetic facing bricks.
