The device of arches of interroom doors. Arched door: do-it-yourself device. Materials for the manufacture of arched structures

Now interior arches have become very popular instead of doors. They give the room extravagance and elegance, help free up space in small apartments, which was occupied by doors when opened. They are installed between adjacent rooms, in the corridor or in the kitchen. Can .

The arch can have a different configuration and be made of different materials. Usually they are made of drywall. It is suitable for installation and bends well.

Preparation for work

Before you make an arch instead of a door, you need to measure the opening, plan a certain shape of the arch and calculate its dimensions. It is necessary to measure the width of the doorway and its height from the floor. Moreover, it should be taken into account that the arch will reduce the opening by about 10-15 cm. If the height is less than 2 m, then it is better not to make an arch, but to decorate the opening with decorative details made of foam.

The width of the arch will be equal to the distance between the side walls of the opening. Measure the opening and divide the distance in half. This value is necessary to complete the correct semicircle. Before installing the arch, you need to find out what shape it will be.

You can install a semicircular arched structure made of drywall. When planning the installation, you need to find out whether the walls are sufficiently vertical and even. This is necessary for the design to be correct. If the walls of the doorway were not smooth enough, then it is necessary to level their surface with puttying.

Materials and tools:

  • drywall;
  • rack profile;
  • dowels;
  • screws;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • roller with needles;
  • corner of the arch with holes;
  • latex putty.

First, the front parts of the arch are performed. It is necessary to pick up 2 pieces of drywall. Measurement and cutting of pieces are performed unambiguously for all materials.

An even semicircle can be done in two ways.

  1. First way. It can be made with a rope if it does not stretch. This rope must be tied to a simple pencil. Then mark the middle of the semicircle, more precisely, its radius. To do this, use the value that was obtained when measuring the width of the opening.

If the width of the opening is 1 m, then the radius of the semicircle will be 50 cm. From the edge of the drywall sheet, where the top of the arched structure is located, you need to measure 60 cm and draw a straight line. This value was obtained by the following calculations:

50 cm + 10 cm = 60 cm.

10 cm is the distance from the top of the opening to the top point of the arched structure.

Then the drywall sheet is cut to the size of the opening width (100 cm). Then, on the drawn segment, mark the middle. To do this, measure 50 cm from the edge. Got a point for a semicircle.

You need to take a pencil with a rope, measure 0.5 m, draw a semicircle from the resulting point. So a kind of compass was made. If everything was done correctly, then the semicircle should be even.

Then a semicircle is cut out with an electric jigsaw or blade knife. Thus, a rectangle with a semicircle was obtained. This rectangle is 100 cm wide and 60 cm high.

  1. The second way. First you need to prepare a soft plinth. It is used to draw a semicircle on a sheet. A rectangle with dimensions of 100x60 cm is cut out. 50 cm are measured from each of its edges and 2 lines are drawn. Where these lines connect, put a mark.

Take a soft baseboard and bend it on both sides. Thus, a semicircle is obtained. The most convex part of the semicircle should be flush with the mark. The edges of the semicircle should meet the edges of the rectangle. Draw an arc and cut it out. The work is best done with a helper.

How to make a frame

To complete the frame, you need a profile prepared earlier. The frame will be made of guides.

First you need to attach two guide profiles along the width of the opening (1000 mm). They will be installed on both sides of the opening. They are fixed with dowel screws if the walls are concrete. If the walls are made of wood, then self-tapping screws must be used.

In order for the arch to be flush with the wall, it is necessary to install its frame deep into the opening by 11-12 mm. After installing drywall and puttying, the plane will be flat.

Then, on both sides of the opening, 2 side parts of the frame 600 mm long are installed and fixed. To do this, you need to cut off the bottom of the profile at an angle. If this is not done, then this part of the profile will be noticeable, due to the fact that the arch at the bottom narrows.

The manufacture of the main part of the frame is completed. Next, front arched elements are installed on it. The work is carried out with self-tapping screws for metal.

If you want to make an arch of a more complex shape, then you need to make an appropriate frame for it. Next, you will need to close the end part of the arched structure. To this end, it is necessary to make a frame on which the bent strip will be installed. This frame must be made from a profile of 27x28 mm.

The work is carried out with scissors for metal, which have a spring mechanism. In order for the profile to have the shape of an arc, you need to cut it accordingly: 2 of its sides out of 3. The profile is U-shaped. It is necessary to turn the profile clockwise to the side, then it will be located inside the installed right side of the arch.

The second profile is fixed in the same way opposite it. Then cuts are made along the middle and upper parts of the profile every 40 mm. So it turns out a kind of snake of the required length. It is installed along the edge of the semicircle. The tighter the bend needs to be, the more often the cuts need to be made.

The topic of this article is the manufacture of arched doors, their installation and the subtleties of these processes. We will talk about the types of doors with arches, note their varieties and features of each type. We will also give recommendations on the independent production of an entrance door in the form of an arch made of solid wood.

To date, arched openings of various shapes and styles are used in the construction and decoration of most premises. They are used as entrance and interior doors.

Types of arched openings

From the whole variety of doorways in the form of arches, the following classification can be made:

  • semicircular arches. They are the most common and are also divided into subspecies:
    • Classic (semicircular) - they have an even radial shape.
    • Ellipsoidal - performed in the form of an elongated oval.
    • Modern - have intricate shapes with various protrusions.
    • Romantic - in shape they are more like a rectangle, in which the upper edges are slightly rounded.
  • Horseshoe arches. They are horseshoe shaped. They can have not only a smooth semicircle, but also an elongated pointed top. Most often, openings of this type are used to decorate rooms in national styles.
  • Gothic (lancet) arches. These structures have an elongated pointed shape, without smooth transitions.

What are arched doors

Arched doors have many varieties and are classified according to various factors: installation site, material of manufacture, design features

Types of arched doors at the installation site

There are two main categories here:

  1. Interroom doors arched - are located inside residential and other types of premises. Most often they are made of wood and have glazing. Stained glass compositions are often used for glazing such structures.
  2. Entrance doors in the form of arches are used mainly in the entrance groups of establishments: shops, organizations, shopping and entertainment centers. Made from plastic profile.

What are arched doors made of?

In view of the complexity of manufacturing this type of door leaf, the variety of material for their production is not very plentiful:

  1. Plastic. This material is used for the production of a profile from which not only entrance doors are made, but also windows.
  2. An array of wood. Wooden door leafs in the form of arches are used for entrance groups in the private sector, as well as inside any type of premises.

Structural features of arched doors

Based on the characteristics of operation, the complexity of installation and the cost of the finished product, the following arched door structures can be distinguished:

  • Cloths that repeat one to one the contours of the opening. A feature of such doors is that their production takes a lot of time. They stand high enough. Such models are made of wood, as arched plastic doors are made using a different technology.
  • Standard canvases with an arched part fixed above them. Such doors are somewhat cheaper, since the arcuate part of them is mounted separately and does not open together with the leaf. It also becomes possible to use not only hinged, but also sliding options for canvases.

Important! The height of the opening for such doors should be large enough. It is calculated by the formula: Vpr \u003d 210 cm + half the width of the opening.

  • Single leaf doors. They are usually used as interroom, as well as input options for private houses and public buildings.
  • Double doors. For wide openings, it is advisable to use two doors. One of them can be fixed in the opening with a latch. Actual for entrance groups. In this case, more often the “working” part of the door is 2 times wider than the fixed one.

We make an arched door ourselves

Despite the complexity of manufacturing such canvases, it is possible to do this. Now you will see for yourself. We will learn how to make wooden arched entrance doors.

It is better to order the box part according to your size, and we will make the canvas with our own hands.

We prepare everything you need

First you need to prepare a tool, boards and improvised materials. We will need:

  • Electric jigsaw with wood saws.
  • Electric milling cutter with two types of cutters: disk (for grooves) and cylindrical.
  • Sander with sandpaper of different grain sizes. Best of all - tape.
  • Boards, 5 centimeters thick.
  • Wedges made of wood.
  • Two small bars and 4 wood screws. The length of the screws should be 30mm more than the thickness of the bars.
  • Joiner's waterproof glue. Possibly PVA.

We make a blank for the arched part of the canvas

To make the arched part of the door leaf, we first need to measure the final width of the opening. That is, from the total width we subtract the thickness of the “box” part and the gap of 2 mm between the door and the opening (box).

After that, we perform the following work:

Important! Before you make an arched door, you need to choose well-dried boards. Since if they are raw, then the canvas will warp over time.

  • Now, using an electric mill, we make grooves for a tighter connection. To do this, we take a disk-groove cutter. We make grooves in such a way that the protruding part is about half the thickness of the board. That is - 2.5 millimeters. Likewise with the internal groove.
  • Next, we clean the entire surface of the grooves from dust and apply carpentry glue to them. After that, we connect all the boards and leave them to dry.

Important! In order for gluing to happen better, you need to take a board and attach pre-prepared bars to it with screws. The distance between the bars should be 10–20 mm greater than the width of the glued workpiece. Place the workpiece between the bars and open it with wedges.

Cut out a semicircle

For this operation, we recall the experience of installing plasterboard arches. We use one of two options to outline the arched shape:

  1. If the arch has an even semicircle. We mark the middle of the blank at the bottom. Then we take a pencil and tie a non-sticky thread to it. Cut the thread exactly to the length of the radius of the arch. We attach one end of the thread to the mark and draw a semicircle with a pencil.
  2. If the shape of the arch (as in the photo) has an elongated semicircular or pointed shape, then we use a different method. It is very convenient to use a long metal ruler to delineate the boundaries of the bend contour. We also make a mark of the middle and draw a line from it strictly vertically to the length of the radius of the arch. Next, we put the ruler on the edge and bend it so that with one edge it touches the radius mark, and the other coincides with the edge of the workpiece. After that, draw a line with a pencil. On the other side, we do the same steps.

Important! Make sure that you get a symmetrical shape of the arched cutout.

Next, take a jigsaw and carefully cut the workpiece according to the markup. After that, we take a grinder with the largest sandpaper and process the surface of our arched part of the door on both sides. After that, we repeat the grinding with a finer abrasive.

Now the most beautiful part of our door is ready. Arched-type interior doors can be decorated with the same elements. However, it is worth considering that glazed arches will be more elegant for interior spaces. And their manufacture requires carpentry skills.

Finishing the door panel

Now we have to make the rest of the door. It will be assembled according to the same principle as the previous part. The only difference will be that the boards will not be located horizontally, but vertically.

You should also provide a horizontal part at the very bottom of the canvas. This will help extend the life of the door.

As a result, our door leaf will consist of 3 parts:

  1. Horizontal bottom bar.
  2. Shield from vertical boards.
  3. Upper crossbar. She is the arched part.

After all 3 parts of the door are ready, we connect them using the spike method. To do this, we perform the appropriate operations with a milling cutter and put all 3 parts on glue. Do not forget to support the canvas with wedges.

The final stage is the treatment of the entire surface of the door with a protective agent and a finishing coating. For this, "Pinotex" or any other protection for the tree is suitable.

If the door is constantly on the sunny side, then it is not recommended to cover it with laminating coatings. In this case, it is better to use an ordinary colorless varnish for outdoor use.

In the life of any person from time to time there comes a repair. It may be associated with the acquisition of a new house or apartment, with the desire to update the interior of a familiar home. One way to organize space is to create arched structures. Arches in the house can perform two completely different functions: the unification of space, when an arch is placed instead of doors; division of a large area to highlight several zones of different function.

Of these two options, the arch in the doorway is more common, giving a more interesting look to the layout of the apartment. When replacing a door with an arch, it is necessary to take into account the pros and cons of such a solution. The undoubted pluses for a small apartment include the expansion of space. When combining a kitchen and a small room, you can arrange a dining room, where it will be convenient and pleasant to dine with family or friends.

If several arches are placed in a long and narrow corridor, then the feeling of narrow passages as in a train car disappears.

If a balanced decision is made to install the arch, then we proceed to the choice of the form of the decorative structure:

  • Rectangular;
  • Semicircular, having an equilateral rounding;
  • Semi-arch, having only one rounded corner;
  • Trapezoidal, the design of which consists of curved lines;
  • Fantasy.

The disadvantage of the arch instead of the door is that you can no longer close the door to highlight your piece in the apartment. If the arch is placed instead of the door to the kitchen, then the smell of cooked food will spread everywhere.

How to make an arch in a doorway

After the shape has been determined, it is recommended to make a template from cardboard, fiberboard or other improvised materials. Creating a template helps to present the final result and more accurately calculate the amount of materials needed. When designing, we take into account that the installation of an arch in an existing doorway will reduce its height by about 10-15 cm. If the dimensions of the opening are insufficient to implement design ideas or the owners of the apartment are tall enough, then you will have to increase the height of the doorway. Changing the height or width requires a lot of money, including labor, financial and time to coordinate redevelopment in the relevant organizations. Determining the shape, creating a template are the first stages in the manufacture of an arch.

They are followed:

  • Dismantling the old door frame (if this has not been done before);
  • Preparation of the surface of the walls for the installation of the arch;
  • Creating a frame;
  • Installation of an arched structure;
  • Fine finishing and decoration.

All these works can be entrusted to professionals, but if you have a desire, you can do everything yourself.

Instructions: how to make an arch with your own hands

The cheapest and most common material for arch installation, as well as for many other works, is drywall. We dismantle the old door frame. For more modern designs, this is easy. You just need to unscrew the screws and carefully remove the trim. Old houses present various surprises to their owners. In ancient times, nails were used to fasten the platbands to the bars.

Carelessness during such work can lead to the destruction of floors or their damage.

After dismantling, we carefully evaluate the intermediate result of the work. The former doorway and the wall next to it must be clean, level, without serious damage. Therefore, if cracks and chips are found, we putty, this will help subsequently to properly and efficiently finish them. If you plan to level the walls with drywall, then this can be combined with an arch device.

When the doorway is prepared, a U-shaped frame made of a metal profile is installed in it. It consists of one horizontal segment equal to the width of the doorway and two vertical segments, the length of which corresponds to our future design. The frame should be on both sides of the opening, that is, in fact, we make two of them. Two rows of holes of 10 cm each are marked and drilled in the profile. Then holes are marked and drilled with a puncher at the ends of the wall. Guides are attached to the walls.

The turn has come to use the pre-cut template. Sheets of drywall are marked on it, with the help of a jigsaw, two parts are cut out for each arch and attached with self-tapping screws to the installed profiles. Along the edges of the attached parts of the template, it is also necessary to mount the profile. Since we are considering how to make a semicircular arch, an important step is to give the drywall profile the appropriate shape. To do this, we cut the edges of the letter P of our profile to the full height. The profile becomes obedient and takes the geometric shape we need. After that, it takes its place along the edges of the slices.

The next stage requires accuracy and care. It is necessary to correctly install the arched fragment of our arch. The profile is already installed, so we measure the length of the arc and the width of our part, cut out the rectangle. The difficulty is that the rectangle does not really want to become an arc. If ordinary drywall is used, then the main method of “pacifying” it is wetting and simultaneously shaping it. But this option may seem complicated to ordinary home craftsmen who are afraid to make mistakes. In this case, modern technology suggests that we use arched drywall, which takes on a semicircular shape much more easily than usual. We fasten our part in the usual way, moving from the center of the arch to the edges, and we are almost at the finish line.

We process the edges of the arch, cut off the excess. After that, we process the joints and the edges of the drywall with perforated paper tape or sickle, putty, and process with sandpaper. The choice of putty for finishing depends on the future decor of our arch.

There are finishing works left, to which we will return a little later. If you plan to install fixtures in a semicircular part of the arch, then you need to do this before you start puttying. If it’s scary to take on unfamiliar material, then you can put an arched plywood structure. In this case, two methods are possible: the first is similar to working with drywall, the second is described below.

Do-it-yourself door arch: making from plywood

To build such a structure, first measure the size of the arc of the future arch. A rectangle is cut out of a sheet of thin plywood, the width of which is equal to the width of the doorway and the length is equal to the size of the arc. Plywood is a malleable material, so the cut rectangle is evenly moistened, allowed to lie down for a short time and bent to fit into the opening.

It is important to place the cut part evenly and accurately, this will require some skill.

Be sure to fasten the part with screws in the center, then along the edges. We fill the space between the resulting semicircular arch and the walls with mounting foam and wait for it to dry. If there is a lot of free space, then part of it can be filled with foam parts, and the remaining free space with foam. We cut off the excess foam, putty the facade of our arch using a sickle.

Less common designs are wood and brick arches. Despite the beauty and durability of such arches, their installation requires more expensive materials and the participation of professional craftsmen. The most interesting stage remains to create an arch in the doorway with your own hands - finishing. Various decorative materials can be used here.

Most common:

  • Wallpapering;
  • Decorative plaster;
  • Coloring;
  • Bonding finished foam plastic finishing elements;
  • The use of decorative stone and other types of decoration.

How to make a door arch with your own hands (video)

Thus, it is quite possible to make an arch in the doorway yourself, using the usual repair tool and available materials. The result of such work will be pride in their work and an original decorative element in the design of the apartment.

In an effort to move away from generally accepted standards and give elegance to the interior, the owners of apartments and country houses change their usual doors to arches. This is no longer a new, but to this day a popular design highlight. The arch in the doorway is bought ready-made or made by hand. It comes in a variety of configurations, so it allows you to realize any idea.

Forms of arched openings

Interior door arches are selected not only based on taste preferences, but also depending on certain parameters: ceiling height and. The structures are made of drywall, wood, MDF, PVC. Drywall is the easiest to work with as it is the most flexible material.

Currently, there are a large number of different types of arches, which differ in shape. The most common are:

Arched openings also have different designs and, on the basis of this, are divided into several varieties:

After looking closely at your interior and choosing the right arch model, you can begin the phased work.

Step-by-step instructions for self-production

In order not to spend extra money on finished products, you can do the decoration of the arched opening yourself. To do this, you need to follow a well-established scheme.

Making the necessary measurements

Any construction process requires accuracy, which is achieved by preliminary measurements. You need to start from the opening itself, so first measure its width and height. The size of the span between the walls of the opening is equal to the width of the arch. In order to make a semicircle as accurately as possible, this indicator must be divided by two.

Before making the arch, you need to decide on its future configuration. If you are going to perform it in a classic style, then pre-align the walls. Otherwise, the design will look ugly. You can remove all defects from a vertical surface with putty or plaster using beacons.

Creating a Structural Frame

To make the installation of the frame, you must perform a series of sequential steps:

  1. A contour of a metal profile is screwed along the lines of the opening with dowels. Vertical guides are set indented from the surface of the interior wall. The size of the indent is equal to the thickness of the drywall sheet and the plaster layer (about 0.2 cm).
  2. We install two such profiles parallel to each other on each side.

    For the frame device, two profiles are installed in parallel

  3. Having finished working with the profiles, we take up the installation of the first sheet of drywall. If its thickness is 1.25 cm, then it is recommended to fasten it with 3.5x35 self-tapping screws. If the GKL thickness is not more than 0.95 cm, use smaller screws.

    Drywall fixed with self-tapping screws

  4. Sheathe the second side of the frame with drywall.

  5. Make a metal profile in the shape of an arc. To do this, cut the side walls of the profile with special scissors every 7 centimeters. As a result of these actions, it is easier for him to give the required shape. For an arched structure, two such blanks are required.

    An arched arc is made from the profile

  6. Install and fasten the arcuate profiles to the main part of the frame.

    The arcuate profile is attached to the main part of the frame

  7. In order for the arcs to be securely fixed, they are attached with suspensions to a straight guide located on top. The number of hangers depends on the width of the opening. Usually three pairs are enough.

  8. In increments of 0.4-0.6 m, attach reinforcing crossbars along the perimeter of the frame, fixing them on the guides of the two contours.
  9. As a result of the above actions, a reliable metal structure in the form of an arch comes out of the profile. In the future, it will be covered with plasterboard or plywood.

If it is assumed that the columns of the arches will not be too large in thickness, then it is permissible to change 2 arcs to a wide profile. Cutting and bending is done in exactly the same way. Only in this case, the installation of crossbars is not required.

Sometimes wooden slats are used instead of a metal profile. The technology of mounting the frame does not change significantly.

Bending drywall sheet

After installing the frame, they are accepted for bending the GKL. Experts recommend using drywall, designed specifically for arched structures. It easily takes the desired shape if the material is washed in the longitudinal direction.

If you decide to use ordinary drywall, then you will have to tinker with it. The installation element is cut to the desired size in the form of a rectangle. Bend it in two ways: wet and dry.

Scheme for manufacturing a bend

The wet method takes a lot of time and is not rushed. So that the material does not crack when bent, it is moistened with water and punctures are made. In this form, the drywall sheet is left to lie for some time, and then it is bent on a template of the desired configuration.

The dry method refers to the application of cuts parallel to each other on the wrong side of the GKL. The cut goes deep into the sheet, affecting the outer cardboard layer and gypsum. The cardboard layer on the front side remains intact.

With the dry method, the bend of the installation element takes the correct shape. At the same time, it is important to know that sawing GKL is best done with a jigsaw, and not with a hacksaw. Then the edges will not be torn.

Rough frame trim

If the bend was carried out by the wet method, then first of all it is necessary to wait until the drywall sheet is completely dry. The material is fixed first with adhesive tape, and then with self-tapping screws. The minimum step between them should be from 5 to 6 centimeters.

Perforated corner prevents edge chipping

After fixing the sheathing, the edges of the drywall sheet are cleaned. And in order to prevent chipping of the curved edge, a perforated plastic corner is installed on it.

Leveling with putty

To make the surface even, you need to finish the arched structure. To begin with, a primer is applied, and after it dries, putty. Fiberglass mesh is used to reinforce the second layer and strengthen the corners..

Fiberglass mesh reinforces the corners of the arch

The last third layer of putty is applied to the grid. After about 10 hours, it dries up, after which you can start cleaning up the bumps with sandpaper. With a quality work done, the surface will be without roughness, irregularities, and the caps of the self-tapping screws will not be visible in it.

Ways to finish arches

Those who wish to finish the arches on their own will have to work hard, cutting out each detail separately. However, many do not look for difficulties and choose a simple path - they acquire factory structures from prefabricated elements.

Ready-made and prefabricated linings

There are two types of factory-made overlay: wooden and foam.

Styrofoam elements

Foam arches are often preferred as an alternative to plaster products. The advantages of such structures are as follows:

  1. Fast installation. The installation speed is much higher than arched structures made of plywood or plasterboard.
  2. Low price.
  3. Easy transportation. Styrofoam is a fairly light material, so you do not need to hire movers to deliver the product to your home.
  4. Light weight. Arches of this type can be installed even on very weak structures.
  5. Various forms.

Foam arches are assembled from prefabricated elements and cut in place to fit the size of the opening

The negative sides of the arched foam structure are: fragility, toxicity, rapid flammability.

Wood elements

Wooden arched structures do not require advertising. They look rich and rarely do not fit any interior style. However, it should be understood that the word "wooden" does not mean that all components are made of pine, oak or other wood.

The arch can be made of natural wood, MDF, chipboard or plywood

Arched elements are also made from inexpensive MDF, laminated chipboard, plywood, veneered. The desired option is selected individually based on the taste and thickness of the wallet.

Wooden elements are ordered from a catalog and then cut to length before installation.

Installation of wooden structures is simple. In hardware stores, arches are sold both assembled and disassembled. The first option is considered more reliable, since the work was performed by a specialist.

Decorating with finishing materials

Currently, there are many ways to beautifully and neatly. The decor is selected so that it is in harmony in color, texture, material with the home environment. The most popular options are:

  1. Simple staining. The arch will look elegant and complete if it is simply painted white, brown or to match the walls. This finish is often supplemented with decorative elements, lighting.

    Monochrome painting looks advantageous in combination with backlighting

  2. Wallpapering. This is the fastest, most affordable and easy process. For these purposes, vinyl or non-woven options are best suited.

    Slopes highlighted with wallpaper - a very stylish design move

  3. Finishing with wooden, plastic clapboard. The method guarantees not only a beautiful aesthetic appearance, but also ensures the durability of the structure, its protection from moisture and mechanical damage.

    The clapboard option is great for interiors with wall decoration from the same material.

  4. Decorative plaster. The surface of the arch is beautiful, embossed and durable. True, such a finish needs to be restored sometimes, and it requires some care.

    This method looks especially advantageous in deep arches.

  5. Stone. An arch in a house made of natural or artificial stone is installed only with the help of a professional. Finishing fascinates the eye, makes the interior unusual.

    The ragged edges of the arch can be the highlight of any interior.

  6. Cork- it is quite expensive, but environmentally friendly material. It is easily susceptible to mechanical damage, therefore, to extend its service life, it is recommended to cover the cork with wax.

    Cork finish brings a sense of environmental friendliness and comfort to the interior

  7. Clinker tiles. This finish will last for years. It does not attract dirt and does not require special care.

    Finishing with clinker tiles - unlimited space for interesting solutions

When renovating apartments, when the decision is made to remove doors, widen a doorway, or build a partition, most of us advocate arches that look more modern and attractive than standard rectangular openings. Such an architectural solution visually expands the room without the installation of doors. As a rule, openings with a circular contour have several main types:

    the arc of the arch has the correct radius - the classic version;

    the arc of the arch is made with a rise (modern style);

    the arc of the arch has a straight part in the center with rounded corners of the desired radius;

    the arc of the arch is made in the form of a regular or irregular ellipse.

The last two types are best suited for wide openings. Below we will consider the features of mounting various types of interior arches on a frame made of profiles.

The simplest and most common option is installation of the frame in an existing doorway . This type of construction suits those customers who do not plan to cover the walls with drywall, but they would like to have an arch.

    The installation of the frame should begin only after the completion of plastering and filling work, i.e. when the doorway is fully prepared for further finishing. At the same time, its inner part should have a flat, smooth surface.

    Next, in the upper part of the opening, we fix straight vertical and horizontal guide ceiling profiles (PNP-profiles 28x27), and the dowel-nails must be placed at a distance of 200-300 mm from each other, and holes for them should be drilled at an angle deep into the wall so as not to damage her edges. Dowel-nails must be located in the corners and at the ends of the profiles.

It is important that the guide profiles are located strictly parallel to the partition. In this case, it should be borne in mind that the profiles must be recessed into the opening by the thickness of the drywall sheet, i.e. by 13 mm.

    Then, from a drywall sheet, we cut out two identical parts that will form the profile of the arch. These parts should freely enter the doorway, forming a gap of 7 mm with the wall. We temporarily fix one of the parts on the wall with two self-tapping screws. We cut segments of the required length from the PP profile, focusing on the temporarily fixed part, so that they do not go beyond its edge. Each such segment needs two copies.

Do not forget to mark the installation locations of the PP profiles so as not to get confused. After that, we remove the drywall part, and fasten the prepared segments with self-tapping screws, first to one PNP profile, then to another.

Aligning the "snake" along the edge of the drywall sheet, mark the location of the profiles on it with a marker, and on the segments of the PP profiles - the depth to which the "snake" will move. We cut off the excess. In addition, we cut the last segment of the "snake" adjacent to the sides of the doorway. We do the same operation with the second "snake".

When filling the arch, do not forget to protect the corners with an angular profile.

The outlined design of the frame for the arched opening can be used and with simultaneous continuous cladding of walls with drywall on a mixture of "Perlfix" . In this case, the width of the frame must be determined by the width of the wall, i.e. flush with the wall.

Arrangement of an arched opening in a plasterboard frame partition we perform as follows.

    The lining of the partition begins with the doorway. In this case, whole sheets are necessarily used - this is a guarantee against the formation of cracks. It is necessary to work together.

We apply a drywall sheet to the partition frame so that the doorway is located approximately in the middle of the sheet. Then we shift it to one of the sides so that the edge of the sheet falls in the middle of the rack profile. We measure the sheet along the length so that its free end also falls on the rack profile, and cut off the excess.

We raise the sheet to the ceiling and, leaving a gap of 5 mm, we begin to fix it in this position with self-tapping screws. Having screwed in 2-3 self-tapping screws, we continue to fasten the sheet on the rack profile. Ultimately, this drywall sheet must be fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws with a pitch of no more than 250 mm.

    We measure the width of the doorway and mark the center line on the surface of the drywall sheet (the width of the opening divided by 2). From the top point of the opening, we measure the same half of the width of the opening, making a mark on the center line. We got the center of the circle for the arch.

If such an arch radius is not suitable for some reason, for example, if the doorway is wide enough, it can be increased by lowering the center of the circle along the center line down. Accordingly, the arched arch as a result will be less steep.

If you want to get some specific arch profile, it is recommended that you first accurately calculate all the radii and their mates, then cut out the template, and mark the contours of the desired arched opening on the fixed drywall sheets according to the template.

So, we draw a line along the contour of the arch and carefully saw off an extra fragment along this markup.

In the same way, we fix a sheet of drywall on the other side of the partition, make markings and saw off the excess.

    The next step will be to strengthen the arched opening and stiffen the structure. To do this, we need a wooden board 50x70 mm, from which we should cut the number of bars corresponding to the width of the opening (at least five). the length of each bar is equal to the distance between the drywall sheets inside the partition. Evenly distributing the bars along the radius of the arc, we fix sheets of drywall on them with self-tapping screws.

    We cut out a strip of the desired width and length from drywall, moisten it with a spray bottle and, having laid it with a “bridge” on two supports (you can use bricks, boxes, cans, etc.), put a small load in the middle. After some time, the strip will bend under the weight of the load, and it will be possible to fix it to the bars with self-tapping screws even when wet.

    Next, on the side rack profiles, we fix drywall strips with self-tapping screws, equal in width to the thickness of the partition, and in length - from the edge of the strip to the floor. Do not forget to reinforce the arched opening with an angular profile.
