Installation of plastic windows according to GOST - detailed instructions. What are the rules for installing plastic windows? Installation of window blocks from pvc profiles

Before moving on to questions directly related to the installation of windows, it is necessary to clearly define what regulatory documents regulate the performance of these types of work.

The following documents contain the most detailed description of the work on installing windows and the requirements for them:

  • GOST 30674-99. Contains general information about "Blocks of PVC window profiles" and the requirements for them. Almost nothing is said about the installation itself.
  • GOST R52749-2007. Contains information on the installation of window blocks using PSUL (vapor-permeable self-expanding sealing tape).
  • GOST 30971-2012. Modified and modernized standard, put into effect on January 1, 2014, instead of the outdated GOST 30971-2002, which in most cases was guided earlier.

At the end of the normative part, the following should be noted. The listed regulatory documents, like most others that are not directly related to safety, are valid, but not mandatory. Nevertheless, following the rules of GOST when installing window structures with your own hands, or when purchasing with installation, will allow you to achieve the quality of the work performed.

GOST 30971-2012 describes in sufficient detail the requirements for the installation and filling of joints, the size of window openings and gaps for installation, as well as the types of fastening structures. In addition, general requirements for the performance of work, execution of the necessary documentation and minimum warranty obligations are given.

DIY installation instructions

measurements

Measures the width and height of an existing window opening. The dimensions of the window are defined as follows:

  • The width is equal to the measured width of the opening minus twice the width of the mounting gap;
  • The height is calculated in the same way. The minimum gap width according to GOST is 20 mm. In calculations, 25-30 mm is usually taken.

Quite often, in brick houses, a window opening is arranged using an outer quarter. In this case, the outer part is measured.

  • The width is equal to the width obtained between the quarters plus the size of the frame factory per quarter (according to GOST - from 25 to 40 mm.);
  • The height is equal to the measured distance from the low tide to the upper quarter with the addition of the size of the plant to the upper quarter (according to GOST, also from 25 to 40 mm.)

Mounting method (according to GOST)

  • Directly through the frame in the plane in which the installation is carried out. The most commonly used option, which requires the preliminary dismantling of double-glazed windows from blind sashes and prefabricated hinged sashes.

  • With the use of fittings built into the frame in the manufacture. The design is assembled entirely, which requires skills and qualifications due to the considerable mass.

Preparing for installation

After the manufacture and delivery of window structures, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work, namely:

  • clear a place in front of the window;
  • remove furniture;
  • cover walls, floors and all accessible structures with a film or thick cloth;

  • if necessary, dismantle the sashes from the frame (when installing through the frame);
  • fill (preferably, a day before installation) with heat-insulating foam the inner cavity of the support profile. This process, not mentioned in GOST and often not performed by builders, is carried out to prevent the occurrence of a cold bridge in the place where the profile is attached to the frame.

Installation of a PVC profile window

  • Lay wooden blocks or plastic substrates from below on the end of the window opening.
  • Install the frame or the entire prefabricated structure on them (depending on the type of fastening). Supports remain an integral part of the structure for its greater reliability and stability.

  • Pegs are driven in from the top side between the window and the wall. They fix the frame from the sides.
  • Then it is necessary to check the horizontalness of the structure. If required, perform the necessary alignment by adding substrates.
  • Check the verticality of the structure, make adjustments if necessary.
  • Attach the frame using one of two options:
    • having drilled mounting holes in the wall through the holes prepared in the frame in advance, with a puncher, followed by inserting and fixing the anchors. It must be remembered that you first need to drill the bottom holes, securing the bottom of the structure; then drill and bait the middle and upper part of the mount. At the end, check the structure for verticality and horizontality and finally fix it;
    • having bent the fastening ears for the tightest possible fit to the wall, drill an anchor hole in the wall and fix the anchor. Start also from the bottom of the fastening structures, then move up. If possible, it is required to check the correct position of the window structures as often as possible.

Drain installation

Usually, there is a groove on the outside of the window structure for installing a drainage system. According to the requirements of GOST, it must be necessarily foamed during installation; it is also possible to additionally fasten it with screws to create greater structural reliability.

Checking and assembling the window

After the installation of anchor fasteners and draining is completed, it is necessary to check the horizontal and vertical installation once again. Then you need to assemble the structures (if necessary), which is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly, with the installation of all fittings, handles, limiters, etc.

Gap filling

The process takes place with tightly closed doors and is almost always carried out with polyurethane mounting foam. It should be remembered that foamed polyurethane foam is a proven material and has a long history of use, however, it also has certain disadvantages. In particular, it is not sufficiently resistant to exposure to open ultraviolet radiation and the external environment.

Therefore, in order to avoid the possible gradual destruction of the insulation and the subsequent freezing and fogging of windows, GOST prescribes the mandatory isolation of the seam from all sides. For this you need:

  • from the inside, stick on the perimeter of the window (on the sides and top) a waterproofing self-adhesive tape that is vapor-tight and is used specifically for plastic windows. A foil strip is glued from below, which will subsequently be under the window sill;
  • on the outside, a membrane moisture-resistant and vapor-permeable adhesive strip (PSUL) capable of releasing steam to the outside should also be glued around the perimeter.

The mentioned materials are offered in a sufficient range on the building materials market. Their use will practically not increase the cost of work, but significantly improve their quality, as well as the service life of the mounted structure.

The gap is directly filled onto the pre-moistened surface from the inside after the self-adhesive strips are bent. For application, a conventional gun and foam intended for year-round use are used. GOST allows the use of ordinary foam, but such windows can be used at temperatures up to -30 degrees. Naturally, in almost all regions of Russia, windows with such seam insulation cannot be used.

Window sill installation

A fairly simple process, which consists in fitting (if necessary, trimming) the window sill so that it fits exactly under the window frame with an emphasis on the lining profile. GOST provides for its entry into the walls - from 50 to 100 mm. Then, the level at which it should be is attached with pegs, and the cavity under it is sealed with mortar or mounting foam.

With the advent of innovative technologies, ordinary residents got the opportunity to equip their homes with great comfort, coziness and warmth. Plastic windows play a significant role in this process. Finally, we can get rid of wooden windows that dry out in summer, dry out in winter, do not retain heat well and become sources of drafts.

A double-glazed window of a modern type has absolutely no listed disadvantages. It is durable, strong, safe for the human body, has a beautiful and attractive appearance. PVC windows will delight you with their functionality for a long time, but with only one condition: the installation of double-glazed windows must take place in accordance with GOST and compliance with all the nuances and rules of installation technology. How to install plastic windows correctly if you have never done this before?

Trying to install double-glazed windows with your own hands is quite problematic, especially if you live in a multi-storey building. This will require the skill of a climber, which you will not have. Therefore, the easiest way out is to hire specialists. But even if workers who deserve numerous good reviews and have recommendations come to you, you should check whether they install your window correctly. And for this you need to know the main points of installing plastic windows, which, for your part, you must control.

Window installation

The technology for installing a plastic window in accordance with GOST involves the step-by-step implementation of a number of measures and activities according to specified criteria, and in strict order each stage.

Installation of a PVC window in accordance with GOST begins with dismantling the old window: workers must completely remove it, clean the opening to the brick or concrete base of the frame. Next, the workers must prime the surface of slopes into which the new frame will fit.

Please note that when working, installers use a primer, but not water. The primer will ensure good adhesion of the materials that will be further used to seal the voids that have arisen.

How is the special tape attached to the PVC frame? The compacted compressed tape is attached around the perimeter frames from the outside. Its main purpose is to remove residual moisture that will remain in the window opening. Such a device inhibits the penetration of moisture in the opposite direction.

Then to the window frame attach diffusion tape. As a rule, it is white in color, with a dense fabric structure on a rubber basis. It adheres well to the openings in the wall, and also protects the seam from moisture.

After attaching all the tapes, the installers fix the anchor plates to the frame. They are placed around the entire perimeter with a distance of 70 cm from each other. After that, the window block can be installed in the window opening.

Now the installation of a plastic window in accordance with GOST is moving to another stage, including it fastening to a window.

Important! A double-glazed window should not be placed on concrete, but on wooden blocks that are treated with an antiseptic composition. These shoes help to adjust the gaps between the frame and the concrete slope. According to existing standards, the gap should not exceed 2 cm.

When the anchor plates are attached to the wall opening, the resulting gap must be fill with mounting foam.

Foam is additional thermal insulation. It must fill all gaps and crevices to prevent excess moisture from entering. In addition, it is the mounting foam that helps reduce noise. After sealing the cracks with foam from the inside, the seams must cover with dense diffuse tape.

Before installing the window sill, workers should use metallic tape, which takes part in the thermal insulation of the lower seam.

Remember! Professional installers must lay the protective tape along the outer area of the window, that is, from the street. And the mounting foam from the side of the facade should not be visible at all.

window sill fixing

- this is the final stage of installation of PVC windows.

A cement screed is laid on the concrete base, which will help ensure the stability of the window sill. Only on this solution it will not sag and even can support the weight of a person who wanted to sit on a comfortable base.

Internal slopes are applied to the initial profile, and each subsequent step is performed using building level measurements, which helps trace the level of the frame inclination. If it even slightly exceeds the norm, then the window will be bad both to open and close. Therefore, the construction team must be closely monitored.

Installation of plastic windows in accordance with GOST 30971-2002 should be carried out in this sequence. And finally, we note that before letting the workers go and signing the act of accepting work, control the window, open and close the leaves and check that they work correctly in all directions.

In conclusion, we suggest watching a video of how the installation of a plastic window according to GOST should look like:

If you have ever installed plastic windows, and the workers who served you performed the installation strictly according to the instructions and in accordance with GOST 30971-2002, leave your feedback in the comments.

Installing PVC windows is a simple matter if you have at least once held construction tools in your hands and are at least a little versed in materials. Installation of such windows will take a little time: half an hour to an hour to dismantle old windows and 2 hours to install new ones.

Installation of PVC windows. Installation according to GOST

GOST for the installation of PVC windows, unfortunately, in most cases is only advisory in nature, but some rules should be followed during the installation of windows. First of all, this concerns preliminary measurements. We determine the type of window opening - with or without a quarter. Below is an illustrative example of a schematic view of an opening with a quarter (A), without a quarter (B).

Scheme 1 - Window opening with a quarter and without a quarter

Measurement of windows without a quarter

Installation of windows without a quarter occurs by installing windows in a cleared window opening. To order a window:

  1. subtract 5 cm from the vertical size of the window opening - an indicator of the height of the window;
  2. subtract 3 cm from the size of the window opening horizontally - an indicator of the width of the window.

These gaps will subsequently be filled with mounting foam: i.e. 1.5 cm on each vertical side of the window, as well as 1.5 cm for the upper horizontal and 3.5 cm for the bottom (for mounting the window sill).

We measure the length and width of the window sill, the outer ebb and add at least 5 cm to the numbers obtained - the window sill should crash into the wall from both sides of the window.

Measurement of windows with a quarter

We measure the window opening horizontally at the narrowest point. We add 3 cm to the resulting number (1.5 cm each on the sides of the window) - this is the required window width. Vertically, we measure the length from the bottom of the window opening to the upper quarter - this is the required vertical size of the window.

The window sill and the ebb are measured in the same way as the option without a quarter.

As a result, you should have:

  • window height indicator;
  • window width;
  • window sill length;
  • window sill width;
  • tide length;
  • tide width.

Scheme 2 - Window measurements

Installation technology

The technology for installing new windows in old houses is similar. The only amendment is that the measurements of the new window are made according to the outer dimensions of the window frame being dismantled.

When ordering a window, also specify whether the delivery set includes:

  • windowsill;
  • plugs;
  • mounting profile (mounting profile);
  • anchor plates for fixing windows;
  • installation instructions for PVC windows (some manufacturers include it in the kit).

When ordering a window, you should also know the answers to the following questions:

  1. What type of window profile do you want to order - 3-, 4- or 5-chamber?
  2. What type of double-glazed window did you choose - 1, 2, 3-chamber?
  3. The method of opening your window is a blind window, a window with opening, a tilt-and-turn window with ventilation, or a combination window (tilt-and-turn window with ventilation and micro-ventilation).

By the way, if you want to get a quality product at a reasonable price, you should choose from mainly German and, not surprisingly, domestic manufacturers of window systems: REHAU, Veka, KBE, Schuko, Aluplast, Kemmerling, Brugmann or Trocal.

The installation technology provides for two methods: installation of PVC windows with unpacking and installation of windows without unpacking.

Scheme 3 - The device of a metal-plastic window

The first method involves preliminary disassembly of the window: removal of glazing beads, removal of double-glazed windows from the frame, fixing the frame to the wall with dowels, and subsequent installation of double-glazed windows and glazing beads.

The second technology for removing double-glazed windows does not require: the frame is fastened using fasteners fixed on the outer surface of the wall, and not through dowels.

The unpacking method of installation can sometimes lead to fogging of windows, and with a lack of experience, glazing beads and double-glazed windows can be damaged, and the installation process itself will take much longer. Of course, proper installation will not lead to any negative consequences. However, be extremely careful!

The unpacking method is rightfully considered more reliable, especially if the frame was fastened to large long anchors. If we are talking about fixing a window on a floor above the 15th, about installing large windows (2x2 m), the right choice is to fix the frame through and through, disassembling the window.

Required Tool

To install windows you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • level;
  • gun (for a cylinder of mounting foam and sealant);
  • polyurethane foam (1-3 bottles per 1 standard window);
  • PSUL for external waterproofing;
  • primer;
  • perforator;
  • set of hexagons;
  • jigsaw;
  • stationery knife;
  • pencil;
  • paint brush;
  • roulette.

We install windows. Work progress

In the process of installation work, you should focus on the previously outlined plan: the window installation scheme (you drew it yourself or it was given as an example in the instructions from the manufacturer of window systems) will help you avoid mistakes and follow the plan clearly. If you are in doubt whether your calculations or ideas about the window installation process are correct, a window installation flow sheet can help - a universal set of installation norms and rules, guided by which you will be sure of the correctness of your actions.

We dismantle the old window and prepare the surface for the installation of a new window system.

Getting the tool ready.

To improve the adhesion of waterproofing tapes to the surface of the opening, we treat it with a primer. The primer is applied with a paint brush.

After removing the cellophane wrapping of windows, glue the inner vapor barrier tape to the frame along the half-perimeter.

Figure 1 - Pasting the window frame with vapor barrier tape along the half-perimeter

We glue the frame with an external vapor barrier - we fasten the PSUL along the outer surface of the frame. When pasting, do not allow gaps between the joints of the tape. PSUL - a vapor-permeable tape will not allow the mounting foam to come out when processing gaps, protecting not only the appearance of the structure, but also the mounting foam from environmental influences - precipitation, ultraviolet radiation and wind that destroy the foam.

We install the frame in the opening, align and fix it, focusing on the installation rules:

  • on the frame prepared for installation, we mark the places of subsequent fastening;
  • we fasten from 4 sides of the frame in increments of 70 cm, while the indent from the corner of the window frame to the first fastener should be no more than 15 cm;
  • fasteners are fixed to the window frame (the self-tapping screw must be fixed in the metal inside the frame, therefore the correct installation technology involves the use of self-tapping screws for metal with a diameter of 4-5 mm, for large window sizes, the diameter of the self-tapping screw should be 12 mm);
  • use anchor plates as fasteners;
  • in places for mounting fasteners, we make recesses in the window opening (fasteners are recessed by 2-4 cm for the convenience of working with slopes after completion of window installation);
  • the window must be level (to slightly level the window horizontally, you can use wooden wedges, placing them under the frame at the right points);
  • to fix the frame in the opening, we install wedges - first the bottom two, thanks to which you can set the lower and upper edges of the frame to the horizon (so that the window does not dangle, it is appropriate to fix the upper anchor), then the wedges are fixed vertically to the window;
  • fasten the window to the window opening.

On the outer side of the window opening we attach a diffuse tape under the ebb.

After adjusting the fittings (buying fittings from a manufacturer other than the manufacturer of the window system is not recommended, however, if necessary, pay attention to offers from Winkhaus, Siegenia, G-U, Aubi, Schuko (Germany), Maco (Austria)) you can foam the window (apply mounting foam along the entire perimeter of the window frame, taking into account that this mounting material increases its volume up to 3 times) and 15-20 minutes after processing all the gaps, it is necessary to bend the protective film previously applied around the perimeter of the window frame so that it completely covers the mounting gaps ( see figure).

Figure 2 - Processing assembly seams

We fix the tide. It is desirable to install it under the window - so you can avoid water seepage at the connecting seam of the ebb and the window frame.

Do-it-yourself PVC window installation in winter

Many are concerned about the question: "Is winter installation of PVC windows possible?".

Of course it's possible! And the installation technology is unchanged. The only thing worth paying attention to is the temperature indicators for the materials used during installation. In particular - indicators of the use of mounting foam.

Special winter options have been developed, thanks to which you can work even at -10 ° C!

When choosing mounting foam for winter work, be guided by the products of Macroflex Profi (Finland), Illbruck (USA) and Moment (Russia) brands.

PVC window sill installation

Installation of PVC window sill completes the installation of new window units.

The length and width of most window sills is standard. In any case, you need to take a window sill with a margin in length and width. Excess can be easily trimmed with a grinder.

Work progress:

Bring the window sill under the window and level it using wooden wedges or any other durable material at hand.

The window sill should go into the wall at least 1.5 cm.

Before the final installation, make sure that the window sill does not sag by pressing in several places.

The slope of the window sill relative to the window should not exceed 3°.

We blow out the cavity under the windowsill with construction foam.

The surface of the window sill must be evenly loaded for at least 12 hours so that the mounting foam, expanding, does not affect the installation angle of the window sill.

After a day, the remaining foam is removed with a clerical knife, and the joint between the window and the window sill is treated with a sealant.

Scheme 4 - Installation of a window sill

It remains only to install the slopes on the PVC windows - and you're done!

According to GOST! Installation of PVC windows: VIDEO

Installation of PVC windows: VIDEO

$ Installation of PVC windows: issue price

The cost of work will depend on how much your window costs: companies that provide a full package of services often deduce window installation prices from the cost of a window - starting from 10%. Thus, when doing the work with your own hands, savings on installing windows can range from $ 40 to $ 60 (for one window).

Installation of PVC windows. Price:

  • Kyiv - from 100-130 UAH. per m²;
  • Moscow - from 1,000 - 1,200 rubles. per m².

The cost of plastic windows with installation:

The cost of plastic windows with installation ranges on average from $80-90 (a blind window 1m by 1.5m) and up to $2,200 (glazing a plot of 3.4m by 1.5m with a sliding two-chamber window system). As you can see, the price range is amazing. Window installation is a price that is not always included in the total amount. Therefore, when signing an order for the manufacture of a window and the corresponding contract, make sure what is included in the final price, and what you still have to spend money on.

The estimate is an extremely important document: when you receive it in your hands, ask for a full price list of work and materials - checking is never superfluous.

The cost of installation, paid separately, is different: prices vary between $ 30-70.

If the client is not able to pay the entire amount at once, some firms provide goods and services to a team of their craftsmen in installments.

The window business, by the way, is a profitable business: for example, winning a tender for glazing high-rise buildings or a housing estate under construction is like hitting the jackpot in a casino. The profit of the company can be estimated in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Plastic windows have advantages over wooden ones and have earned popularity among the population. The article provides the installation procedure for plastic windows and video material (at the end of the text). The main provisions of GOST, including instructions for carrying out such work, are given. Some recommendations and explanations on the arrangement of windows are also given. The description is given on the example of replacing an old wooden window; in new houses, dismantling is simply not needed.

Dimensions and selection of windows (GOST)

The dimensions of windows for different types of houses are very different, but even in one house they can vary by several centimeters. That's why it is important to determine the correct dimensions of the product that determine its value.

Comment! The gap between the edge of the window frame and the wall should be 2-6 cm, if it is larger, the window opening should be reduced by laying bricks (stronger construction) or foam.

Windows are produced in standard sizes, which depend on the type of house - panel, brick, "Khrushchev", etc. These are windows of the P-46, P-44, -44T, P-3, -3M series.

If standard windows do not fit, you can always make a custom-made window of any size. And there will be no loss in value.

According to the type of glazing (double-glazed windows), windows are of various types:

  • two-chamber - preferable and cheaper;
  • three-chamber, maybe more;
  • triplex (multilayer) - do not give fragments;
  • with tempered glass - give small "blunt" fragments;
  • energy-saving, noise-protective, sun-protection.

PVC windows are available in three classes:

  • economy class - KBE, Montblank, Novotex;
  • standard - Rehau, Shueco, Vera;
  • VIP class - Shueco Corona, Salamander, etc.

Window opening preparation

First you need to prepare the window. Take out the double-glazed window and remove the sash. Drill a few holes in the bag for mounting. For a double-leaf window, 2 at the edges and one at the top and bottom are enough; for a three-leaf window, there may be more. Next, you need to remove the old frame (if any), clean the surface of dirt and align. The frame is attached to the opening in three ways:

  • special brackets;
  • self-tapping screws for concrete;
  • anchor bolts (most common and convenient).

The depth of the bolt holes is 4-6 cm, depending on the wall, for slotted bricks - the maximum.

Attention! If there are strong winds in the area, you should consult with experts on the wind load of the window, especially on the upper floors.

Materials:

  • Polyurethane foam - double-leaf window - 3 cylinders.
  • Liquid plastic - 1 tube is not a few windows.
  • Water-based paint - 2-3 l / window.
  • Dowels - 660 mm - 15-20 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Anchor plates or anchors - 4 per window.

The exact amount depends on the type of window.

The procedure for installing plastic windows

Practice shows that window mounting defects may appear during operation. It is characteristic that immediately after the completion of work, these errors are not noticeable, therefore, when installing plastic windows with your own hands, you need to be very careful.

Installation of various window options is somewhat different, but the most common steps are typical for all windows. These procedures are described below.

Room ventilation with PVC windows

When choosing a plastic window, special attention should be paid to the ventilation of the room.

The fact is that the windows are almost absolutely hermetic and ventilation is possible only by opening the window sashes, which leads to drafts. Wooden windows do not have such a defect. The way out is to install windows equipped with ventilation valves, for example, Aereko.

The valve features include the absence of extraneous noise from the street. One valve provides ventilation for a room of approximately 50 sq. m. Ventilation is carried out continuously, with an adjustable flow rate.

Thus, the installation of plastic windows is possible on their own.

Installing PVC windows with your own hands is a simple process that does not require special skills or technological skills. Immediately after the delivery of new windows to your home, you can begin an independent installation, while spending a little time. But it is necessary not only to carry out installation - it is also necessary to prepare the workspace, stock up on tools and avoid possible mistakes that lead to negative consequences.

So, you already have ready-made PVC windows at home that you can install. First of all, it is necessary to dismantle the old window frames and prepare the working space for the subsequent installation of new double-glazed windows.

Dismantling is very easy - it only takes a few tools. This is a crowbar, a screwdriver, a hammer and a chisel. Dismantling is carried out as follows:

The first stage - we carry out the dismantling of old windows

  1. First of all windows are removed. To do this, you need to use a hammer and a chisel (or a screwdriver). First, movable windows with frames are removed. To do this, gently pry with a screwdriver bottom loop, on which the window is attached, after which it is hooked upper loop. After that, several intense, but neat blows are applied from the bottom of the frame - so it should come out of the loops. If the movable window was not fixed tightly enough, then a small effort is enough to remove it from the hinges.
  2. After dismantling the movable windows, it is necessary to remove the window sill. For this, a chisel and a hammer are taken, with the help of which the plaster is beaten in the grooves of the window sill. Set aside the tools and take the crowbar. With its help, the window sill is pushed from below (in the area between the window sill itself and the concrete slab) and loosened - for easy dismantling, it is necessary that the window sill “walk” freely. If there is any filler or fixing elements under the window sill (as a rule, old structures have wooden blocks for support), they are removed. After that, the window sill is carefully pulled off from the side of the frame with a crowbar and pulled forward with a few sharp movements. As a rule, old window sills are weakly fixed, so there will be no problems removing them.
  3. The entire window frame is dismantled. Along the perimeter of the window, plaster is beaten off with a hammer - its thin layer hides the spacers on which the frame rests. Initially, wooden spacers are removed from the side. After that, with the help of a crowbar, a part of the window frame is extended.

As a rule, many builders neglect all the rules of dismantling - the wooden window sill is simply cut into pieces by a grinder, and the concrete one is broken with a puncher. The frames are also cut into pieces, after which they are taken out of the opening in separate pieces.

Preparation of the window opening and windows

After dismantling the old window frames, there will be a lot of construction debris. On the surface of the opening there may be remnants of old insulation, plaster and small debris (wood chips, sawdust, etc.). All this must be removed from the surface of the opening. Ideally, before installing new PVC windows, the window opening should be either neat brickwork (if the house is brick), or a flat and smooth concrete slab (if the house is panel). All irregularities, cracks and chips are covered with plaster and leveled.

Is the window opening ready? Then you need to check the condition of PVC windows. It is necessary to inspect the block for deformation, and then check the completeness of all parts. Be sure to check the availability of the following components:

  • Windowsill;
  • Plugs;
  • Mounting profile;
  • Anchor plates required for fixing the window;
  • Installation instructions (some manufacturers provide it in one set with a double-glazed window);
  • Accessories (handles, plugs for handles);
  • Low tide.

After everything is checked, it is necessary to prepare tools for installation work.

PVC window installation tools

To install PVC windows with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • Building level;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Mounting foam and a gun for it;
  • Perforator;
  • primer;
  • Hexagons (it is desirable to have 5-6 pieces in the set);
  • Pencil or marker;
  • Roulette;
  • Paint brush.

As a rule, installers are limited to a smaller set of tools. But, since you need to do the correct installation of the plastic window with your own hands, and these windows must be installed securely, it is recommended to use the list above.

Taking window measurements

There are two ways to measure - with a quarter and without a quarter. Let's take a closer look at each of these methods.

Taking measurements without a quarter

A PVC window is installed in a cleaned and pre-prepared window opening. To order a window, you need to carry out the following calculations:

  • Window height: five centimeters are subtracted from the vertical of the window opening;
  • Window width: three centimeters are subtracted horizontally from the window opening.

The resulting gaps will subsequently be blown out with mounting foam. As a result, the following parameters are obtained: an indent of 1.5 centimeters is made from the sides of the opening and 2.5 centimeters each from the upper and lower sides.

After that, the window sill and drain are measured. Each value obtained must be increased by at least 6-7 centimeters.

Taking measurements with a quarter

Measurements are carried out as follows: the window opening is measured horizontally at its narrowest point. The resulting value must be increased by three centimeters - this determines the required window width. In the vertical direction, the length is measured from the base of the window opening to the upper quarter - this is how the height of the window is determined.

As a result of measurements, you should get indicators:

  • Width and height of the window;
  • Width and height of the window sill;
  • Drain width and height.

Installation of PVC windows according to GOST

In most cases, GOST for the installation of plastic windows is purely advisory. However, we recommend that you adhere to the basic requirements - this is necessary, first of all, for the owner of the house.

There are two mounting technologies. Do-it-yourself installation of double-glazed windows can be done with unpacking windows and without unpacking. In the first case, it is necessary to completely disassemble the window - remove the glazing beads, pull out the double-glazed window, then fix the frame with anchor bolts in the opening, and then mount the double-glazed windows and glazing beads. In the second case, the window is not disassembled, but is fixed with the help of special fasteners, anchor plates, without the use of through fastening with dowels. The first method is considered more difficult and requires certain work skills. That is why we will consider only the second case, as the most preferable for the majority of the inhabitants.

We install windows

Before you start installing windows according to GOST, you need to create your own plan. This can be either a self-developed drawing or an instruction that comes with the manufacturer. Following the plan will help to complete the work without errors and with maximum accuracy.

The work is carried out as follows:

  • The surface of a pre-prepared window opening processed by primer in order to ensure better adhesion with hydro- and vapor barrier tapes. Primer should be applied with a regular paint brush.
  • We remove the packaging from the windows and glue on the half-perimeter of the frame PSUL sealing tape. This will provide additional protection for the mounting foam from the harmful effects of UV rays and precipitation.
  • The window frame is installed in the opening. We will consider this point in more detail below.
  • We fill the seam with mounting foam.
  • The next step is to glue the frame internal vapor barrier. To do this, a vapor-tight tape is glued on the inside of the frame.

We use the following rules when installing a plastic window:

  1. We put marks on those places of the frame where the fastening will subsequently take place.
  2. Fasteners are attached to the frames from the sides, while maintaining a step of 50 cm. It should be borne in mind that the maximum indent from the edges should be no more than 15 cm.
  3. Fasteners - anchor plates - are attached to the window opening with self-tapping screws.
  4. The window is placed on plastic mounting wedges at the building level. Any deviation must be avoided.
  5. For additional fixation on the sides, mounting wedges or ordinary wooden bars are used - they are inserted in the gaps between the fasteners.
  • On the outer side of the window, after installing the frame, a diffuse tape is fixed under the ebb.
  • The openings that remain between the window frame and the walls must be blown out with mounting foam.

Tip: When securing the window frame with fasteners, it is not necessary to tighten all the screws tightly. Only after the structure is finally fixed, you can bring the fasteners to the stop.

The window sill comes in one set with metal-plastic windows. The master himself determines what width he should have. Measurements are taken, after which the window sill is carefully cut to the desired length. Next, the window sill is installed as follows:

  • A window sill is installed on wooden bars and adjustable in height. Adjustment should be carried out with the building level so that the window sill is strictly horizontal with respect to the window opening.
  • After the position is finally established, the window sill is removed, plugs are put on its side parts. An adhesive mixture is laid on the wooden blocks, which are the basis for the window sill (it is recommended to use CM-11 or a similar material).
  • The window sill is re-installed on the bars and pressed a little. With this procedure, it is necessary to use the building level, since the window sill during installation may lead a little to the side.
  • After the adhesive solution is fixed, the space between the window sill and the window opening is blown with mounting foam.

Low tide installation

It can be installed as a home-made ebb, and the one that comes with the metal-plastic bag. If you purchase a drain, then you need to take into account that it is fastened with self-tapping screws to the bottom profile, and the part of the window protruding above it should protect the junction of the profile with the drain. The drain itself is mounted extremely simply: a profile is attached to the window opening, after which, with the help of self-tapping screws, the drain is fixed on it. For additional protection of the attachment point, blowing with mounting foam is carried out.

PVC window sealing

Technological features of foaming are written on a cylinder with polyurethane foam. Each master can verify this on his own by reading the detailed instructions indicated on the cylinder. The foam polymerization process is catalyzed at high humidity. That is why, before starting the sealing process, it is necessary to moisten the places with plain water. In the absence of moisture, polymerization will not be of sufficient quality.

After the foam hardens, it must be carefully cut off with a regular clerical knife. Do this carefully so as not to damage the metal-plastic windows.

Tip: Do not try to fill the entire cavity of the assembly seam the first time. First you need to apply a little foam with a mounting gun, wait for it to swell, and then re-apply the required amount.

Common installation errors

Both beginners and masters can make mistakes when installing plastic windows. As a rule, the most common are the following:

  • Carrying out incorrect measurements or lack thereof;
  • Selection of unsuitable profiles for installation;
  • Mounting on an uneven surface, or on a surface that has not been previously cleaned;
  • Installation of PVC windows without level;
  • Wrong fixing of the window. Some people either use too many fasteners or don't use them at all. There is only one result - the window can be deformed during operation;
  • Installing a window at insufficient depth. If the window is placed too close to the inner edge of the window opening, a significant decrease in temperature around the window is possible, and, as a result, the formation of condensate;
  • Improper sealing. Mounting seams are either insufficiently blown with foam, or unevenly. This leads to the fact that after a few years of operation, the window begins to fog up and loses some of its advantages.

In order to avoid common mistakes, it is necessary to carry out installation exclusively according to the instructions and in compliance with technological features.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, I would like to note: installing pvc windows with your own hands does not present any difficulties. The entire process of installing one double-glazed window of medium size lasts for one day. This takes into account not only the installation process itself, but also the time spent on dismantling, cleaning and preparation. As a result, you will receive not only a reliable design, but also significantly save your own money.

We hope that our description of the technological process of installing PVC windows will help you in further construction work.
