Floor design from ordinary parquet. Oak parquet in the interior. Light parquet in the interior

The design of the floor influences the appearance of the whole room and therefore should be the basis for a harmonious picture of the whole room. The most beautiful flooring that is relevant at all times is, of course, parquet. However, there are countless different types of parquet. Take only oak - both light and dark, covered with wax, varnish or oil ... And if you also take various patterns with which you can lay out individual boards, then the possibilities for decorating a room with parquet become truly countless.

As for the parquet laying patterns, it all depends on the area of the room and its interior. In addition, lighting plays an important role. Each pattern affects the proportions of the room and can visually make it, for example, longer or narrower. In this article, you will find an overview of the different parquet patterns and their influence on the design of a room.

Figure "Run" (or "Deck")

Straight run

The plates are stacked parallel to each other in the same direction. Depending on the laying direction, the room can be optically enlarged or reduced. Dies can be shifted both at the same distance, and randomly. Chaotic styling resembles the deck of a ship, hence its name.

Such a pattern of parquet will fit into almost any style, reminiscent of exciting journeys across the endless ocean. This type of installation visually expands the room, so it is also suitable for small rooms. In this case, the choice of wood and, accordingly, the color of the parquet, which should go well with the furniture, is of decisive importance for the interior.

Parquet pattern "Checker" (or "Squares")

Checker (squares)

Separate dies in such a pattern are combined into a square, and as a result, a pattern resembling a chessboard appears. The squares are perpendicular to each other. And since the length and width of each figure must, of course, be the same (this is a square, not a rectangle), such a pattern is only suitable for small plates. However, wide and long dies can also be placed in squares, but in very large rooms.

Left - large squares, right - double herringbone

The dice are arranged in such a way that there is a feeling that the parquet is as if woven. The dice can be arranged diagonally or in squares/rectangles.

Various options for braids

Parquet laying pattern "Basket"

This, in fact, is a kind of "Pletenka", in which one row of dies is "intertwined". The pattern can be made from one or two types of parquet: the central element, which differs in color from the “weave”, creates an attractive contrast.

Drawings "Christmas Tree" and "French Christmas Tree"

Christmas tree

To create a Christmas tree pattern, the dies are stacked at the same angle to each other. There are options when 2 or 3 dies are stacked at a time, as in the photo above. Then the pattern is called, respectively, "Double" or "Triple Tree".

French Christmas tree

If the ends of the dies are cut at an angle of 30 or 45 degrees, the French Christmas tree pattern is obtained. This classic pattern is especially suitable for large rooms: all its charm is revealed only with good lighting, which provides a play of light and shadow.

Complex patterns of parquet laying

From parquet, you can lay out, in principle, any pattern. Complex schemes for laying parquet are called "Stained Glass", and such laying requires serious skills and great effort.

Of course, these are not all parquet laying patterns, but only the main ones. You can also create your own patterns: combine narrow and wide slabs, parquet in different colors, laying direction... You can create a completely individual design for your floor.

Dies of different widths and textures create a unique pattern

Light angle very important for the appearance of the floor. If the dies are located perpendicular to the light source, the wood texture becomes well visible, and with it the seams. Sometimes this is exactly the effect that is needed: for example, if the parquet is made of solid wood and you want to emphasize it. If, on the other hand, you prefer a smooth flooring, the wood grain will look more uniform when placed parallel to the light.

Perpendicular arrangement of the parquet to the light source emphasizes the grain of the wood

Floor smoothness also depends on the quality of parquet sanding. Perfectly polished parquet will resemble the water surface in calm weather. And if you can lay the parquet yourself, then special equipment is required for its grinding. Contact the professionals: http://shlifmaster.ru/ciklevka.

Well sanded parquet

Direction, in which the individual dies are located, is of great importance. The room will look wider if the slabs are "stretched" along a long wall, which is especially important for long narrow corridors and rooms.

At the same time, the installation pattern of the "Checker" package does not affect the perception of the room and is therefore particularly suitable if you do not want to emphasize the proportions of the room.

The effect of visual reduction or expansion of space also depends on parquet size. The larger the individual dice, the smaller the room seems. Therefore, for small rooms it is better to use small parquet.

Before choosing a parquet laying pattern, plan which part of it will not be covered by carpet or furniture. After all, if the parquet is not visible, why choose a beautiful and complex pattern?

Photo drawings of laying parquet

Perhaps the most important thing we have already said. It remains, perhaps, to bring to your attention another 55 photos of various parquet patterns, among which, without a doubt, you will come across exactly what you are looking for.

Warm and beautiful flooring - parquet, popular in the first half of the 20th century in the USSR, again attracted attention. And if you have a desire to decorate your house (and not only the floor) with such a coating, you should figure out what types of parquet are and how they can be used in the interior.

What it is?

Parquet is a floor covering in the form of wooden planks laid in the form of a geometric or artistic pattern. Tongues and grooves are the means of tongue-and-groove slats, which ensure the reliability of the connection.

But artistic parquet can be connected in a different way.

Gothic Europe of the late XIII - early XIV century became the progenitor of such floors. The nobles could afford to lay out drawings and ornaments from small boards of different breeds.

In Russia, parquet appeared two centuries later. Until the beginning of the 20th century, parquet boards and boards were made only by hand. It was only in the first quarter of the 20th century that mass production of parquet began to appear. The result of such work was that even after 100 years there is a demand for parquet. And although this is an expensive option for flooring, but the desire to make your home beautiful and cozy makes you remember this material again.

Main types

According to the production method, this flooring is divided into several types:

  • Piece- the oldest, but still common. Each plank is equipped with a comb on one side and a spike on the other. Planks are made from hardwood. Such a coating is durable, it can be repaired many times, there are a large number of ways to lay planks on the floor;

  • Type-setting (mosaic) floor- this is a pattern (mosaic), protected by special paper, which is removed after laying all the shields. A sound-insulating substrate can be glued to the reverse side of the boards. According to the method of fastening to the floor, type-setting parquet can be with a fold, with an oblique groove, with fastening on a hard rail, on a soft rail;

  • Shield consists of two layers: the base of a rough board or fiberboard and the "face" - small planks of hardwood with varnishing. The drawing is unpretentious - a square, a rhombus, a rectangle. And only custom-made shields can have more interesting geometry;

  • Massive parquet- This is a solid board with a ridge and a groove. The difference with the piece is only in large sizes;

  • parquet board- This is a combination of three layers of wood of different species. Due to a certain technology, such material is not afraid of changes in temperature and humidity;

  • Pronto parquet also multi-layered, but has a small size. In fact, these are also piece boards, but made of several types of wood. The technology for creating multi-layer takes up to 7 months. In addition, pronto is varnished in 7-8 layers, although there are also unvarnished boards;

  • Palace (artistic)- the most expensive natural wood flooring. To create a highly artistic drawing, different types of wood are used, which must be selected in such a way that they do not affect each other when temperature and humidity change. In addition, the sizes of the boards are not just different, but figured, which significantly slows down the work, increases the cost of parquet and makes it unique;

  • Industrial (commercial) parquet is again gaining popularity not only in public, sports and cultural areas with high traffic, but also in residential buildings. The principle of its manufacture is very different. The panels do not have ridges and grooves. In production, the strips are picked up, placed on the edge and the packaging is sealed with adhesive tape, creating small shields. And already in the room, the shields are glued to the floor on a leveled surface;

  • cork floor- these are not boards and not planks. A special technology for using cork tree bark makes it possible to produce natural rectangular panels of various thicknesses that do an excellent job of heat and sound insulation, but are short-lived, so they are often used to cover walls and ceilings, but not floors.

The following types of flooring can be conditionally called parquet due to the use of not only natural wood, but also artificial materials in their production:

  • Laminate can be hard and flexible. Solid consists of 4 layers. The top decorative can imitate a wooden covering. Flexible vinyl laminate is made of square or rectangular PVC. It is least of all similar to wooden parquet and is significantly inferior to it in its properties. The only indisputable advantage is the low price;

  • Garden or decking- these are square or rectangular fragments with a soft or hard mount. Hard decking is made from solid wood. It is used to decorate garden paths and playgrounds. This coating is easy to install, it has a good drainage system, it has a pleasant appearance.

Varieties of wood

Currently, several dozen types of wood are used for the manufacture of parquet. Those that grow in our climate zone will be much cheaper. But among them there are rare breeds. Therefore, the price will consist not only of the difficulty of the work, but also of the rarity of the solid wood.

Cork oak is ready for industrial use only for 25-30 years of its life. And this is the cheapest technical plug. Particularly high-quality material can be removed from the tree when it is 150-160 years old.

Larch parquet is valued for its excellent moisture resistance and thermal insulation. Siberian larch is not subject to decay. The array has 12 shades, with a lower price than oak or teak.

Oak is a parquet classic. Durable wood is stained, after which it can have shades from greenish-brown to almost black. Only true professionals work with oak. The planks have a pronounced woody pattern.

Beech has the lowest density, so it is easily processed. Good for sanding and polishing. The parquet is smooth, the wood pattern is hardly noticeable. Shades of light, reddish-yellow and grayish colors. There are inclusions of dark lines and shiny plates.

Walnut is a popular tree in different parts of the world. European wood is distinguished by a variety of colors: shades of greenish gray with dark lines, fading to reddish and light brown. But after several cold winters, the number of trees has drastically decreased, and now American walnut is popular - a dark brown wood with bird pecks, traces of knots. Walnut is hard, but easy to work with.

Ash is a light, uniform, hard and resilient wood. The pattern is similar to oak, but fills the house with golden light. Wood is resistant to decay and cracking. It bends well, but it does not change its size over time.

Cherries have pinkish brown or pinkish gray mature wood. Its structure is such that it is much easier to process than oak. At the same time, it has a beautiful decorative texture, which darkens over time.

Birch will give the parquet a white color, reddish or yellowish shades are possible. Solid wood is well processed, does not split. It is easy to imitate valuable tree species by coloring and polishing.

Mahogany parquet is hard, moisture resistant, and does not dry out quickly. Merbau has a reddish brown wood with all shades.

Bamboo is called amber. Very resistant to abrasion. The parquet is not subjected to cycling. After five years of the warranty period, it is simply rebuilt.

Alder is a popular tree not only in the middle lane. Freshly laid parquet can be light to reddish-orange in color. It becomes very yellow over time. The material is hard and crack resistant. But insects often start up in the board.

Russian maple is hard and durable. It has a delicate pattern of gray-pink color, which turns yellow over time. The wood is easily polished. With the help of stain, it is easy to imitate more expensive tree species. For the manufacture of parquet, American and ash maple are also used, which are much more difficult to process.

Dimensions

You can determine the dimensions of the parquet using GOST 2695-83. But since the document was adopted in 1983 in actually another state, not all modern manufacturers adhere to it.

  • The thickness of planks of piece parquet ranges from 15-22 mm with a length of up to 500 mm and a width of 40-75 mm;
  • Type-setting parquet is a panel 400x400 or 600x600 mm in size, containing planks of various shades. The thickness of the boards is 8 - 12 mm;
  • Panel parquet has dimensions of 800x800 mm, thickness 15-30 mm;
  • A massive parquet board can have a width of 80 mm, a thickness of 15 mm and a length of several meters;
  • The three-layer parquet board has an arbitrary length from 300 to 1845 mm. At the same time, its width is 127-210 mm, and its thickness is 7-23 mm.

The total thickness of all layers of hard laminate is 7-11 mm. Universal length - 185-195 mm, and a width of 330 mm is considered quite wide. Vinyl laminate tiles have several sizes: 300x150 mm, 300x300 mm, 200x200 mm, 490x490 mm. A distinctive feature is a very small thickness - no more than 5 mm.

Industrial parquet has the following dimensions: 8-23 mm wide, 8-23 mm thick, 150-500 mm long boards. The length of 160 mm is considered universal.

The dimensions of the cork floor depend on the future use. Technical cork is used as an insulating substrate and is produced in rolls. The adhesive floor is made 4-6 mm thick and laid on an adhesive base. The floating floor is rectangular panels with a thickness of 10.5-11 mm, consisting of several layers: the base is cork, the middle is NDF or MDF, the front side is cork, fine wood, leather or even a photo print.

Color and design

The choice of color and parquet design are directly related. In addition to the rational functions of insulation and sound insulation, parquet undoubtedly has an aesthetic function. Even if it is not an artistic masterpiece, the floor is sure to attract attention. Therefore, it must be in harmony with wall coverings, furniture and textiles. This can be achieved through color and decor.

Dies of most types of parquet have a rectangular shape, but completely different colors.

For small rooms it is better to use small boards, not forgetting that light shades of the floor will visually enlarge the room.

Whitewashed floors make the space light and versatile for many styles. For the north side, it is better to choose yellowish warm shades of planks. The sand color will suit the rich classics, and the aged wear will suit the vintage style.

Spacious rooms and halls allow the use of medium and large planks of any shape. For large areas, dark shades are well suited. Ebony and polysander parquet, dark merbau and bog oak are a real decoration of the house. Wenge will give solidity to business style. Gold inclusions on a rich red-brown color are expensive and stylish.

At home, dark parquet planks can be combined with light ones. Braid can be completely different. Such decor, completed with furniture varnish or wax, will make the floor glossy and extraordinarily beautiful.

If a plain dark floor was chosen, then it can be decorated with a light carpet with a pattern to match the parquet.

Artistic parquet, by definition, will be colored. The multicolor of various woods will help create national drawings or emphasize style features. Modular parquet requires a very large space.

Also space requires black. It will suit not every home and style. But in combination with white furniture, it will be a modern sophisticated classic.

An apartment or a house, of course, will be decorated with any parquet. It was created to give warmth and comfort. The main thing is to find a balance in the combination of parquet boards and furnishings.

If the color of the floor does not match the furniture, then you need to choose an accessory to match the flooring. Decor with fabric, paint will help you find the matching items.

Popular manufacturers

The construction industry has no problems with parquet manufacturers. But it is worth understanding how high-quality the offered products are.

The Swedish company Kahrs is positioned as the best manufacturer of parquet boards. The company united several world manufacturers, including Karelian parquet floors. Kährs uses the most reliable lamella lock, high-quality wood drying, excellent varnish for coating. The manufacturer occupies one of the first places in the rating of Russian buyers.

The huge global concern Tarkett, which absorbed a large number of flooring manufacturers, is the undisputed leader in the production of parquet. This is the highest quality and the same price. But taking into account the fact that production is established all over the world, not every branch produces high-quality products. Russian consumers in their reviews talk about too high a percentage of defective products purchased.

Polish Barlinek pleases customers with a variety of products. The Barlinek Group has expanded its production to several countries. And again, the quality depends on the specific manufacturer, and not on the brand as a whole. Different buyers evaluate the parquet differently: someone was satisfied, others are horrified by the quality.

Not so famous, but no less popular is the Belarusian manufacturer Coswick. This brand has a diverse production: parquet board, mosaic parquet, sports floors, wall panels. The company constantly modernizes its production and improves product quality. But while buyers have a lot of complaints about the quality of products.

Petersburg brand "Imperial Parquet" is an exclusive elite parquet for classic style and modern interior. All products are made from high quality material using proven technologies on the latest machines. It is not easy to find reviews of this production, and this is not surprising: a company that works with expensive material in a high price segment has earned a name for itself among not the poorest people. However, buyers leave only positive feedback about this manufacturer.

Of course, when buying parquet, you need to choose the product very carefully. And still, it will be possible to evaluate it only some time after installation. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the beauty and practicality of parquet do not always depend only on the manufacturer. Unfortunately, illiterate unprofessional flooring is not ruled out.

Which to choose?

The choice of parquet depends on what the buyer wants to see in his house.

When buying, you should pay attention not only to the color, but also simply to the full name of the product.

Parquet is divided into grades, which depends on the nature and method of cutting wood. Radial sawing is considered the most valuable. Tangential will not tolerate mechanical damage to wood. The mixed one has a beautiful pattern, but the quality is worse than the radial cut.

The texture of the wood classifies the patterns on the cut:

  • Select has a small pattern, it is uniform in structure and color;
  • Natur is a repetitive picture with small knots;
  • Gest - contrastingly mixed saw cut;
  • Classic - texture drawing;
  • Station wagon - small knots framed by patterns that differ from each other;
  • Antique - a pattern that varies greatly with different shades.

The quality of wood for parquet is determined by the concepts of "premium", "select", "standard", "natural", "rustic" and others. Elite wood belongs to the premium class.

Having clarified the theoretical issues, we turn to practice:

  • Ideally, when there is an opportunity to see with your own eyes a future purchase. If the purchase is made via the Internet, then you need to be prepared for the fact that the color may differ from what you see on the monitor;
  • Hardwood parquet boards are much more practical than softwood. And make no mistake - oak is in the middle of the wood hardness table in terms of hardness;
  • Another indicator is board stability. It will not be possible for an ordinary buyer to determine it - a professional is needed;
  • Parquet installers recommend opening the packages directly in the store and checking the geometry of the board. But here you need to keep in mind that in case of refusal to purchase, you will have to resolve the issue with packaging;

The role of flooring in the interior of the room is difficult to overestimate. Beautiful parquet will give the room individuality and style, and improperly selected flooring can negate all the efforts of the designer and repairmen.

To date, there are many varieties of flooring, including artistic parquet, with which you can implement various ideas for decorating a room. Our gallery will demonstrate how you can diversify the design of a room with the help of this flooring.

The role of parquet in the interior

The floor, as the basis of the room, sets the tone for the design of the entire room. And parquet as a floor covering not only creates a wonderful decorative effect, but is also an environmentally friendly, practical and durable flooring. With it, you can change the perception of the room as a whole. So wide planks visually expand the space, making it more voluminous. And narrow stripes give the room coziness and compactness.

Photo of parquet in the interior - the use of narrow and wide planks

An important role in the design of the room is played by the flooring pattern. The most popular styling method is herringbone. Such a pattern is quite laborious in execution, but, due to the special arrangement of the slats, it will last a very long time.

Herringbone flooring never goes out of style

In the minimalist design of the room, you can use the laying of boards in a "deck" way. At the same time, the plates are placed in parallel, imitating the continuity of the boards, which was previously used in shipbuilding.

On a note: this option of laying parquet is the most economical in terms of material consumption.

"Deck" parquet is an excellent base for accenting furniture, decor elements

There are other ways of laying dice, with which you can diversify the design of the room. These are “squares”, “chess”, diagonal, “braid”, in a run - the scope for imagination is unlimited.

Please note: the more varied and complex the flooring pattern, the more skill will be required to implement it.

The artistic parquet in the interior looks especially luxurious. It is manufactured in the factory according to individually drawn up sketches. And the uniqueness of the pattern can be emphasized by inlay with stones, a combination of wood of different species.

Reference: if earlier artistic parquet was expensive, today more affordable technological developments have appeared.

How to choose the color of parquet for the interior of the room

The choice of dice of one color or another depends on the degree of illumination of the room where they will be laid. In a dark room, it is better to use light parquet (from light wood species).

The flooring of very light, almost white shades, has recently become often used in designer interiors. But it must be used very carefully. Indeed, on the one hand, such a coating creates a feeling of open space, and on the other hand, it can make the interior faceless and boring. In which case will white parquet look appropriate?

White flooring is ideal for creating an aged effect (“shabby chic”).

Light or bleached flooring organically looks in a room decorated in a Scandinavian style, country or ethnic

Bleached oak is ideal for modern minimalist interiors. Its wood can range from grayish white to cream, which allows for a variety of designs.

On a note: The main disadvantage of white coating is that it requires regular maintenance and cleaning.

White oak parquet is valued for its excellent performance properties.

A popular material for the manufacture of light-colored flooring is ash. It has a beautiful texture and soft golden color.

Ash wood is reliable and strong, it does not crack or warp.

You can add zest to the design of the room with maple parquet. It has the effect of "chameleon" - changes color depending on the lighting.

Thanks to the delicate mother-of-pearl, maple wood reflects light, changing its color.

Practical and beautiful is the gray parquet in the interior. Flooring of a dark gray shade visually reduces the room, and light gray, on the contrary, expands it, gives lightness and airiness. This color has a calming effect on a person, so it can be used to decorate living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms.

A room with gray flooring "breathes" with freshness and coolness

The most common flooring colors are golden brown. Such popularity is explained by their versatility, because the shades of wood can vary from light milk to the color of dark chocolate. Brown parquet will give solidity and solidity to the interior. It is used in rooms where there is a lack of sunlight. The most popular types of wood are walnut, merbau, rosewood.

Beige and red colors will eliminate dullness and gloom and bring comfort and warmth to the room.

Dark wooden parquet looks expensive and elegant. Such flooring will successfully emphasize the elegance of both modern and classic interiors. Cherry, wenge (growing in Africa) flooring will add some mystery to the room.

Wenge parquet, which has a fine structure and rich color, will organically fit into any design.

The color of wood plays an important role in the interior. The more contrast it is, the more it attracts attention, becomes the central element of the room. So red parquet has become a symbol of luxury and elitism. It looks massive and monumental. A black parquet would be appropriate for a room decorated in an avant-garde style.

Advice: if you plan to focus on flooring, it is better to prefer high-quality and expensive flooring.

Stylish expensive parquet should not be covered with a carpet, cluttered with furniture

The original solution will be colored parquet. The blue color is considered a symbol of peace, relaxation and tranquility.

With the help of blue parquet, you can add notes of lightness and carelessness to the room.

To give the room freshness, you can use rare wood flooring with a greenish tint. Also, the finished flooring can be tinted green.

Green parquet flooring is a great place to meditate

Please note: a bright floor would be appropriate in the hall, nursery, but it is better not to use it in the bedroom.

With the help of a play of colors, a combination of different textures of floor coverings, you can zone the room, add bright accents and individuality to it. And even if the coating wears out over time, it can be scraped off, varnished, and the flooring will restore its original appearance.

Outcome

Parquet is a beautiful and noble coating. It is unique in a variety of colors, textures, performance. Natural wood flooring is valued for its environmental friendliness, the ability to give the house warmth and comfort. Therefore, when choosing a flooring, think about the fact that it will become the basis of the design of the entire room.

Parquet floors are a beautiful solution for the interior of any room. At the same time, high requirements are imposed on them in terms of aesthetics, sanitary and hygienic standards and thermal and sound insulation. As a rule, the use of this flooring material is advisable not only in residential buildings, but also in educational institutions, theaters, museums, and sanatoriums.

What are the features?

The main advantages of parquet floors - in their beautiful appearance and durability of the coating. They are also characterized by minimal sound transmission and thermal conductivity. But it is not easy to arrange parquet floors, because they are subject to high requirements in terms of evenness, smoothness and surface strength.

Each type of parquet consists of a coating, a layer and a base, which are various elements - from wooden logs to rough floors and prefabricated fiberboard screeds. The layer can be leveling layers based on a mixture of cement, sand or polymer solution, as well as bedding, hydro- and. As for the coating, it can be piece and mosaic, in the form of parquet boards or panels with different sizes and patterns.

How is the floor?

Modern parquet floors have a complex structure, so their installation requires professionalism and the ability to work with such material. Quality installation starts with surface preparation. Since the parquet board is a high-quality floor covering, the allowable difference in surface height cannot be more than 1 mm per linear meter. Therefore, in addition to leveling the base with a screed, you will need to use a self-leveling mixture. The final alignment is provided by plywood - it is a kind of intermediate link between the parquet and the concrete base.

We carry out a coupler

The device of a parquet floor involves the laying of a cement-sand screed or a wooden "black" floor on the logs. However, the most commonly used screed. It has certain requirements:

  1. Surface evenness. Alignment is required if there are defects on the surface.
  2. Compressive strength. Depending on the thickness of the flooring, experts advise using a strong screed. Its minimum thickness is 40 mm.
  3. Low humidity. Since wood is hygroscopic, it will deform over time. Humidity of the base under the parquet should be no more than 5%. To make the screed dry faster and better, a waterproofing material is used.

Plywood as an insulating material

The device of a parquet floor is a complex process in which it is important to foresee many details. For example, the installation technology involves the creation of an intermediate layer of plywood. Its purpose is to compensate for the “movements” of the parquet as a result of changes in the humidity in the room. Before, many experts suggest covering the screed with waterproofing material - this will protect the wooden floor from moisture accumulation and further decay. It is best in such cases to use a foil film or a special primer based on polyurethane.

The substrate is created on the basis of moisture-resistant plywood up to 20 mm thick - it depends on the thickness of the parquet plank. It is best to cut plywood into squares:

  1. So the probability of separation of plywood from the surface will be lower.
  2. The size of the squares will match the size of the planks, so the floor and underlay will show the same amount of expansion and contraction, thereby increasing the durability of the flooring.

Plywood is glued to the base and additionally fastened with self-tapping screws or dowels. After laying, finishing and scraping of parquet floors is carried out.

Choosing glue

To fix plywood and parquet, high-quality glue is required. It comes in several types:

  1. Dispersion (water-soluble). Such glue is optimal in terms of price and quality, shows excellent adhesion, is elastic and easy to use. When using it, there is no smell, the glue dries quickly. When choosing such a composition, attention should be paid to the amount of water - the more it is, the more the geometry of the plank will change due to glue. Dispersion adhesive should not be used if the floors (parquet board) are made of European tree species - beech, hornbeam, cherry, cherry. They are considered unstable because water will warp the planks of them. You should not use such glue if the planks are too large in size.
  2. Polyurethane. This adhesive consists of two components and is excellent when using materials prone to warping and laying wide planks. Such compounds are expensive, but they are distinguished by good adhesion to the surface and the absence of shrinkage. The short drying time means that parquet flooring must be laid as quickly as possible.

Laying on the screed: pros and cons

There is another option for laying parquet boards - without using plywood directly on the screed. Previously, this method was not used, since the adhesives lacked elasticity, as a result, moisture could be sucked into the parquet from the screed.

Today, laying a parquet floor directly on the screed is possible thanks to the application of a waterproofing primer on it. And already a highly elastic adhesive is applied to it, which holds the planks in place. In some cases, it is advisable to supplement the underlay with non-woven fibrous material, which will compensate for the effort of the parquet to come off the base. The technology is good, but too expensive, besides, the work is carried out exclusively with a flat and solid foundation.

Finishing

After the adhesive has hardened and the planks have stabilized (usually it takes about two weeks), you can start sanding the parquet. This is done in a different way, gradually reducing the grain of the sanding paper. Before sanding, it is required to putty all the cracks and recesses in order to get a beautiful parquet floor - as neat and even as possible.

Now you can cover the surface with varnish or oil. It is best to use the compositions of the same company that produces the rest of the parquet chemicals. The task of varnishes is not only to give the floor a decorative effect, but also to protect it by creating an artificial film on the surface. Most often, up to 7 layers of varnish are required. Parquet can also be coated with oil, which contains natural ingredients. The peculiarity of this finish is the ability to emphasize the texture and naturalness of wood and protect it from moisture. True, the oil coating will need to be updated from time to time.

Warm board or parquet?

How to make a parquet floor if you prefer a heated system? Until recently, it was impossible to think over such a repair method, since the choice of parquet boards was limited. Today, experts offer more modern solutions that allow you to avoid the appearance of cracks on the surface between parquet planks. Of course, any tree reacts to temperature changes and humidity. But in the Scandinavian countries, covered with parquet has long been used.

Warm parquet floors can be installed using the floating floor method using metal staples. They are needed for fastening the boards to each other, which are subsequently laid on the base without fastening. Such a floor will never be torn off from the base, because it is not connected with it. Staples allow you to regulate the natural expansion and contraction of the tree, which appear with changes in temperature and humidity. And this is very important if you will be laying parquet on a floor with a heating system.

What wood is parquet made from?

Modern parquet floors have a different base, since different woods are used for the production of the material - soft, medium and hard. The higher it is, the stronger it will be, showing a high degree of wear resistance. Birch and cherry are softwoods, oak, ash, merbau are medium, ebony and jatoba are hardwoods.

An important role is played by the stability of wood, that is, the degree of its deformation during temperature changes and changes in humidity. The most stable species are teak, oak, merbau, beech. However, the latter is highly sensitive to changes in the level of humidity in the room. All tree species, on the basis of which parquet flooring is created, can be divided into groups according to color. Light floor material will be obtained from beech, maple, ash, birch, hornbeam, white acacia. Such wood darkens slowly and looks beautiful indoors. Pink tones distinguish pear, cherry and alder wood, red shades can be observed in merbau, jatoba, dussia and other rare tree species. Brown parquet is obtained from walnut, teak, ipe-lapacho wood.

How is parquet classified?

The parquet floor is beautiful and bright. But it is important to consider a few points before choosing a material. Firstly, the type of cut plays an important role - it can be radial or tangential. Radial sawing is considered wear-resistant, reliable and involves the presence of parallel lines along the entire length of the die. The tangential cut is distinguished by arcuate lines and is considered the most affordable.

Secondly, you need to carefully consider the wear layer - that is, the layer of the bar from the front surface to the upper edge of the spike. Thirdly, the thickness of the parquet depends on how long and reliably the floor will be used. And most importantly, the fastening of the spikes and grooves must be tight and tight while maintaining a gap of 1 mm.

massive board

The modern market offers a wide selection of wood flooring - parquet, solid board, parquet board. Massive board (GOST 8242-88) is created from solid wood and has large dimensions, unlike parquet. Its distinctive feature is the chamfer, which is available along the perimeter of the board. It highlights each board in the flooring and emphasizes its dimensions. Solid wood boards can be supplied sanded or finished with lacquer, oil or wax. In the second option, the parquet floor will not need to be processed.

In the standard version, the installation technology involves fixing a solid board with glue and self-tapping screws. When laying this variety, you need to remember a few rules:

  1. Lacquering is possible only after laying.
  2. The solid board is not laid on water-based or solvent-based adhesives.
  3. The "floating" method for laying a massive board is not suitable.
  4. Do not attach the board to a screed based on cement and sand.

Most often, laying errors occur due to incorrect selection of boards in width, the use of the wrong adhesive, or insufficient pressing of the material.

Parquet

The most beautiful is the parquet floor. The photo shows how many interesting solutions you can implement in your home. Piece parquet is created from solid wood with a thickness of 14-22 mm and complies with GOST 862.1-85. If the length and width of the planks are multiples, then you can lay out the pattern in the form of a deck or herringbone. Parquet planks are left and right, and if a herringbone or square pattern is laid, the same number of both planks will be required.

Parquet planks are securely connected to each other thanks to ridges and grooves. If the implementation of artistic elements or borders is required, then modular elements are used for this. The parquet plank is fixed with special nails using a pneumatic gun. All varieties of piece parquet are semi-finished products, which, after laying, require grinding and treatment with a protective compound.

Parquet installation is carried out with a number of reservations:

  1. If the parquet is chamfered, it must not be varnished after installation.
  2. The parquet is laid only by gluing to the base (the “floating” method is not suitable).
  3. The parquet is not attached directly to the screed.
  4. If the laying was carried out with a dispersion adhesive or a solvent-based composition, then sanding should be done immediately.

If installed incorrectly, the wooden parquet floor will at least look unaesthetic, and at the maximum, the varnish layer will begin to crack, cracks will form, and the integrity of the base structure will be violated.

After preparing the base, you can start laying parquet:

  1. Laying starts from a long wall: the first board is applied to the wall in the corner, a wedge is installed between them for the gap between the floor covering and the walls.
  2. The subsequent planks are laid along the wall. Watch for the accuracy of joining the ridge and grooves.
  3. All subsequent boards are laid in the same way.

parquet board

This floor material complies with GOST 862.3-86 and is a multilayer structure. The top layer is hardwood of valuable species, the middle layer is pine or spruce bars, the bottom layer is needed to stabilize the base and is made of plywood or softwood veneer. All elements are securely glued together with a special waterproof adhesive, which ensures uniformity and adhesion strength of all layers. Such parquet floors received good reviews, because the surface is even, smooth and beautiful.

When using this variety, you must carefully follow the installation steps. The parquet board can be laid in a "floating" way, while it is necessary to monitor the moisture level of the base and the gap with the wall.

Features of care and repair

The flooring, which is based on natural wood, needs careful and meticulous care. Most importantly, the room should be provided with optimal temperature and humidity: 20-24 degrees at a humidity of 45-60%. The real enemies of parquet are dust and sand, which lead to rapid abrasion of the varnish or oil coating. You can clean such a floor with a damp cloth or vacuum cleaner, but not washing!

To avoid scratches, special felt pads should be glued to the legs of the furniture. Laying parquet should be carried out in rooms that are well heated in winter, since a sharp drop in temperature and humidity will lead to the rapid destruction of the floor.

How to repair parquet floor? If the problems are small, for example, scratches have appeared, they can be removed with a retouching pencil or repaired with putty. Such areas will only need to be sanded after drying and varnished. If water is spilled on the parquet, the damaged area may be deformed. In such cases, it is often necessary to re-lay the parquet or lay a new one.

Another major problem with parquet flooring is creaking. With use, it can become more and more powerful. You can fix the situation in several ways:

  1. Drill a hole in the center of the area where the creak is heard. As a rule, this is enough.
  2. If the base of the floor is hard concrete, you can pour a special mixture of cement and water into the hole.
  3. If the creaking area is too large, then the only way to get rid of the creaking is to shift the parquet again. It is costly and time-consuming, but reliable.

Another common problem is parquet drying out. This is due to the fact that the slats dry out and decrease in size as they are used, so they begin to stagger. Such strips must be replaced, since these areas are not repaired. If this is observed in a small area, then individual strips are easier to replace with new ones.

Under the influence of humidity changes, the parquet is moistened, then dries, and as a result, cracks appear. It is impossible to exclude this process, you can only monitor the humidity in the room using a humidifier. If the gap is very small, it is enough to clean it and then putty. If the gap is larger than 5 mm, then the putty will not help. In this case, it needs to be deepened, cleaned, cut out an insert from a suitable tree and driven into the slot. Then the surface is sanded and varnished.

In some cases, the strips may peel off. This is caused by several reasons: poor-quality glue or mastic, a violation of the installation technology, or high humidity in the room. In this case, the problem is solved in different ways depending on the basis. If it is concrete, then the nests of the slats are carefully processed, then primed and dried. The strips are glued back with mastic. In the case of a wooden base, the nests of the planks are also cleaned and smeared with glue, then the loose planks are inserted back and nailed.
