The design of the toilet, finished with plastic panels. Repair of the bathroom and toilet with pvc panels Finishing the toilet with plastic panels at the front door

If you decide to repair the toilet with plastic panels, do it yourself. Sheathing walls and ceilings with these materials is not at all difficult, and even a non-professional can do it. As a result, you will receive a large number of advantages, and the finish itself will cost you several times cheaper than using ceramic tiles.

What is a plastic lining?

Plastic panels designed for the toilet are a lining that is lightweight and made of PVC materials. It can be used to decorate both walls and ceilings.

The outer surface of the lining is smooth, and can be matte, glossy and even mirror. A large assortment of material, the presence of a variety of colors, allows you to apply any design to decorate the bathroom. In this case, the plastic surface can be:

  • white, matte;
  • white, glossy;
  • with imitation of wood, marble and other expensive finishing materials;
  • with a pattern that is applied to the surface using a special film.

Inside, these toilet modules have a porous structure. Their thickness is from 8 to 12 mm, length - from 2.5 to 6 m, and width - from 0.1 to 0.3 m. Such a variety allows you to apply any design when decorating the toilet.

Advantages and disadvantages of this material

Finishing the toilet with plastic panels allows you to get a large number of advantages:

The main disadvantage of this material is its low resistance to combustion. Most often, plastic is not flammable. But when exposed to high temperature or fire, it begins to smolder and melt. In this case, toxic gases are released, which are very dangerous.

Also, finishing the toilet with plastic panels will steal at least 3-4 cm on each side. If there are large irregularities, the width of the room decreases even more. Therefore, this material is not suitable for a bathroom with a small area.

What design solution can be applied to the bathroom?

The design of the room when using plastic modules can be varied. This material can be revetted as all surfaces from the ceiling to the walls, as well as a small part of them. For example, install panels on the wall from the floor to half the height of the wall. On the upper part, you can apply cladding with putty. Thus, the room can be easily cleaned. The lower part, which gets the most dirty, can be easily cleaned with detergents and disinfectants.

You can also use modules that, after installation, form a pattern. In this way, it is easy to create a cozy atmosphere by applying any design of the room. Panels that imitate expensive wood, granite or stone cladding look good. In this case, the design of the bathroom will be very successful.

Necessary materials

Do-it-yourself repair of the toilet with plastic panels is very simple. The design of the room must be thought out in advance, since the choice of specific materials depends on it.

In this case, you need to purchase:

  • the required number of PVC panels;
  • edging elements;
  • accessories for decorating the surface;
  • slats for creating a frame - wooden, aluminum, plastic;
  • dowel;
  • self-tapping screws - you need to choose with wide hats at the rate of 2 pieces per 1 running meter of the profile.

It is also necessary to prepare tools that will help to carry out the installation as quickly and correctly as possible. To do this, take a building level, tape measure, jigsaw or hacksaw, screwdriver, drill.

Surface preparation

Before installing PVC modules, it is imperative to remove old finishing materials from the walls and ceiling. This will help to increase the usable area in the room, which is significantly reduced in the future.

Also be sure to repair the plumbing, sewer system and electrical wiring. Replace old pipes, cables, check the quality of the connecting elements. This will help prolong the life of the finish. In the event that an emergency occurs, it will be necessary to completely dismantle some of the panels, which most often become unsuitable for further use.

To prevent the formation of fungus and mold on the surface of the walls, be sure to treat them with a primer. The design of the room must be thought out in advance, since additional planks must be fixed at the installation site of the washbasin and cabinets.

Frame installation

Making a frame for this design is very simple if you follow the following recommendations:

  • When using wooden slats, treat them with an antiseptic solution. This is best done the day before the frame is installed. Treat it outside with a liquid that prevents the formation of fungus, and wait for it to dry.
  • Along the perimeter of the room at a distance of 2-3 cm from the ceiling, you need to attach rails or a UD profile. In the latter case, you need to use dowel-nails. Fasten the profile every 0.6-0.7 m.
  • In the direction of the floor, fasten the following rails in a horizontal position. Install them every 0.5 m. Attach to the wall in the same way with dowels.
  • On top of the crate, install a U-shaped profile in the corners of the room.

Toilet cladding

It is very simple to make a reliable covering from plastic panels. Before installation, cut each element so that its length was 1-1.5 cm less than the height of the room. This shortage of material is compensated for when installing decorative strips.

The lining process consists of the following steps:

  • Install the start panel in the right place, while the narrow shelf should be inserted into the profile, which is located in the corner of the room.
  • Using self-tapping screws, attach the panel to the frame in the place of a wide strip on the surface of the lining.
  • Thus, install all plastic modules.
  • Install additional finishing strips near doorways and in the corners of the room.

Only after facing the walls, you can proceed with the installation of panels on the ceiling. The installation of the frame in this case is carried out in the same way. At the same time, along the perimeter of the ceiling, you need to attach a special bar for mounting the plinth.

The panels are interconnected using a special lock and self-tapping screws to the frame. In this way, you can do the installation of plastic lining in the toilet with your own hands.

All apartment owners, especially hostesses, try to make their housing functional, comfortable, beautiful and original, if possible, at a low price. More recently, the choice was small, tile, painting, wallpaper and wood. Now the choice is much richer, even if the budget option is chosen.

Toilet wall panels

In the bathroom and toilet there are specific conditions that limit the choice of materials for decoration, these are high humidity and different sizes of rooms. Therefore, when choosing, one has to be guided by the resistance of materials to moisture and the cost of work. The market offers a choice of inexpensive, quick-mounting and moisture-resistant plastic materials. Plastic decoration of the walls and ceiling in the toilet attracts with its cost and the ability to create an unusual interior with a variety of modern finishing plastics of various shapes, sizes and textures.

What wall panels are used for the toilet: varieties

There are 4 types of panels:

  1. Sheet PVC.
  2. Wall MDF.
  3. From fiberboard.
  4. Based on chipboard.

Plastic for the bathroom has a pattern of tiles or mosaics with imitation of seams, but lately the popularity of matte ceramics has been growing, which is more practical to clean, traces of water splashes are hardly noticeable on it.

Also offered are imitations for stone, brick, wood, leather.

Panels from MDF, fiberboard and chipboard are produced in three varieties:

  1. Planks or slats of small width, docking is done with a lock.
  2. Square and triangular tiles 50x50 or 100x100 centimeters. They are connected when mounted end-to-end, with profile connections or with a lock.
  3. Sheets with dimensions of 120x250 centimeters.

Depending on the shape, the installation method may vary, the slats will require a crate, the rest can be glued directly to the surface with a flat wall, but it can also be on the frame.

The material from which the panels are made gives different resistance to moisture, from PVC they are not afraid of contact with water, from MDF and fiberboard they depend on maintaining the integrity of the film covering them. Chipboard materials are the least resistant to water, but they are quite suitable for a toilet.

Finishing with plastic panels of walls and ceilings of the toilet

Many apartment owners consider finishing toilets, walls and ceilings with plastic as the best option in terms of labor intensity and price, as well as creating an original and cozy interior that does not require complex maintenance.

Before installation, it is necessary to take measurements to determine the amount of materials needed, purchase tools, and, if necessary, prepare surfaces.

How to glue the panels in the toilet on the walls

If the walls and ceiling are sufficiently even, it is possible to stick on the surface without a crate, this will require glue, you can use “liquid nails”. When choosing this method, it is necessary that the protrusions on the wall are not more than 3-4 millimeters, the dents are not so important, they will be closed. The advantage of this method of finishing is speed, it is not necessary to mount the frame and drill many holes, the dimensions of the room practically do not decrease. For work, you need to find a good glue, experts advise taking not universal, but suitable for the material that will be glued, it must meet the following conditions:

  1. Maintain transparency after drying.
  2. Have resistance to temperature extremes, humidity.
  3. Instantly bond surfaces and have a long-term effect.

Gluing is done in the following order:

  1. The wall is primed with glue.
  2. Glue is applied to the tile at a distance of up to 30 centimeters, if the material is heavy, the distance must be reduced.
  3. Wait a few minutes, press the tile to the surface with force.

How to stick panels on the ceiling

When gluing tiles to the ceiling, you need to take into account the dimensions so that you do not have to cut the material and so that the coating does not look bad. Therefore, on the ceiling, you need to take a tile of such a size that it completely covers the surface with several pieces or take a small size.

Sticking algorithm:

  1. The ceiling is primed with glue.
  2. The adhesive is applied at 6-9 points on the tile per side.
  3. The rest are placed side by side.
  4. We apply and press with force.
  5. For aesthetics, you can glue the plinth.

How to attach the best: ways

Can be mounted on a frame, wooden or metal. In this case, many holes will be drilled, you need to buy a metal frame or wooden beam, self-tapping screws, dowels. With such a repair, at least 5 centimeters and a lot of time will be taken away from the size of the room.

Currently, thin wall tiles 3 mm thick are sold without internal partitions, only thin plastic with a pattern.

They are mounted by simple gluing to the surface, are easily cut with scissors and do not reduce the size of the rooms.

Due to these advantages, such a finish is considered optimal for a bathroom.

Advantages and disadvantages of wall plastic panels for a bathroom

The benefits include:

  • cheapness;
  • ease of repair;
  • coating device speed;
  • minimal surface preparation;
  • care consists only in washing with detergents;
  • durability.

Flaws:

  • refers to combustible, emits a lot of toxic smoke;
  • easily exposed to mechanical stress.
  • when mounted on a frame, it takes up a significant area.

Do they require care

They do not require any maintenance, they can be washed with a soap solution or detergents that do not contain caustic and aggressive substances and solid particles that scratch plastic.

The desire of people to make the bathroom convenient and comfortable is understandable, some methods require large investments and the work of qualified performers, others, like installing plastic, can inexpensively create an aesthetic appearance in the room, makes it possible to ensure cleanliness and order with minimal effort.

Useful video

Traditionally, in the design of the toilet, painting, ceramic tiles or wallpaper are used. Plastic panels are used less frequently. This material is bypassed in vain: the restroom is the place where it fully shows its advantages. The lining is inexpensive, hides the imperfections of surfaces and pipes, and the design corresponds to the modern style.

Finishing the toilet with plastic panels is within the power of even the most inexperienced person in construction. You will need the simplest tools and the implementation of elementary operations.

Why plastic - what you should know when choosing

The material for the manufacture of panels is polyvinyl chloride, which is pressed in a liquid state through special forming holes. The products are cellular, which significantly lightens the weight, gives exceptional flexibility: the strip is effortlessly bent at an angle of more than 90 degrees. Manufacturers adhere to standard product sizes:

  • length 2.6–3.0 m;
  • width from 12 to 50 cm;
  • thickness 8–12 mm.

Other parameters relate to the scope: wall tiles are more durable, they are relatively resistant to mechanical damage. Designed for ceiling sheathing - increased flexibility, very light due to their smaller thickness. The coating is applied in a variety of ways, which allows you to get a pure white surface, matt or glossy in different shades, with a pattern on a thermal film or applied by a typographic method.

Samples with imitation and patterns

The connection of the lining is fast - a groove is used on one strip and a comb on the other. It turns out a surface with or without a visible seam, absolutely flat, on which the joints are almost invisible, which depends on the characteristics of the product.

Plastic panels are popular as a finishing material due to the simplicity and ease of installation. Very few tools are required, and the process is fast, without much physical effort. In many cases, they do without the laborious operation of leveling the walls. The lining is easily cut and sawn, so surfaces of any shape are finished with it.

Plastic panels are universal in their purpose, they are used for covering the ceiling and walls in other rooms. An apartment with walls, a ceiling made of vinyl lining in the kitchen, a balcony, a loggia looks very attractive, despite the low cost of the product. This is achieved thanks to a wide range of shades and textures, imitations for various materials: wood, stone, brick, tile.

The bathroom has high humidity, but plastic panels are not afraid, like fungus, mold. It is possible that they will appear on the walls under the sheathing, but there is a way to prevent this moment by treating the surface with antiseptics before installing the lining.

Manufacturers guarantee a long service life of their products - an average of 20 years. Considering that repairs are usually done twice as often, this operating time is acceptable. If there is an opportunity and desire to implement other design ideas using more expensive material, then dismantling the lining is not difficult. The surface under it remains almost intact, only small holes from the dowels are visible.

Acquisition of basic and consumable material - what is taken into account

The high demand for plastic lining has led to the appearance of low-quality products on the market. It is difficult to visually determine the physical properties, but there are tricks to find out how the panels meet the requirements for them. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.

According to the standards, various additives are added to the polyvinyl chloride used for production, which make the products elastic. At a glance, it is impossible to determine this, a simple method is used. They take the strip with their hands, spaced across the entire width, begin to bend until the material begins to strongly resist. The best plastic is the one that bends into a ring, and a small angle indicates poor quality.

The second important thing to pay attention to is the smell. Products made using the right technology do not have it. If chemical “aromas” are felt, it is not recommended to buy - they are felt strongly in the limited space of the toilet, and the released substances are harmful to health.

The presence of a certificate that confirms compliance with the standards is an important condition indicating the quality of the material. If the seller refuses to provide documentation, it is better to refuse the purchase, look for another store. Do not neglect the inspection of each panel in the pack. In an attempt to sell a defective product, defective products are often placed inside. If this is found at home, it will not be possible to return the damaged goods and take a quality one. The seller will claim that the reason is poor-quality transportation by the buyer.

The width of the panels plays an important role. It is better to finish a small room narrow, otherwise there will be numerous trimmings that are unsuitable for anything else. Before purchasing a finishing material, the required amount is calculated and taken with a margin. There is a risk of damage during installation, and it is not always possible to buy the missing products with an absolutely identical surface: each batch is slightly different in shade.

Together with plastic lining, corners and endings (moldings) are bought. They are needed to give the skin a high-quality general appearance. They calculate how much is needed, and acquire in order to install, if possible, only whole segments, especially those that will be outside. You will need:

  • F-profile;
  • corners internal and external;
  • skirting boards;
  • final elements;
  • connecting.

Hidden fastening of lining with kleimers

For the device of the frame, you will need a metal or plastic square profile. As an alternative, wooden slats 30 x 30 mm are used. They check the straightness of each product - the strength of the crate, the ease of installation and the beauty of the finishing surface depend on it. For fastening, dowels with impact screws, self-tapping screws, staples for a stapler or special nails with wide hats are purchased.

Frame device for plastic panels

Proper installation of lining in the toilet with your own hands requires preparatory work. It is recommended to remove the old plaster so that the usable space that the sheathing takes up is slightly affected. If it is necessary to replace pipes and wiring, this is done in advance. The day before the start of the procedure, the surface of the walls is treated with an antiseptic to prevent the appearance of mold and fungus.

The sequence of installation of the frame and panels

Think over places for attaching cabinets, sinks. There you will need a reinforced frame from additional slats on which they are installed. If communications are planned to be hidden under plastic, a wooden box is made, which is then sheathed. The toilet bowl and tiles on the floor are mounted before the start of work on finishing the walls. Step by step instructions for installing the frame looks like this:

  • wooden slats are treated with an antiseptic;
  • attach the side racks;
  • make their crate;
  • install plastic fittings.

Now in detail about each stage. Treatment of the rack base with anti-rotten agents is an important point so that it lasts a long time and does not lose strength from dampness. Work is carried out in the open air, so as not to inhale toxic fumes, and left to dry. Apply liquid from all sides, except for the ends. Instead of wood, a metal crate is used, which is attached to clips.

Wooden crate and pipe box

Rails are installed in the corners, which do not reach the ceiling and floor a little. To achieve this result, lining trims are placed, which are removed after fixing the profile. With a plumb line, the verticality of the racks is carefully checked, and with a ruler - the parallelism of the faces. The quality of the frame and skin depends on the accuracy. Fastening is carried out after 40 cm with self-tapping screws with plastic dowels, under which holes are drilled.

Metal profile frame with communication box

Along the perimeter near the floor and ceiling, bars or a metal profile are installed. The lower ends and upper corners are subsequently fixed on them. Vertical and horizontal wooden slats are connected with screws that are screwed in at an angle of 45˚. Fastening to the walls is carried out on dowels. When the main elements are ready, install additional ones after 0.5 m and jumpers in places that will be subjected to increased load.

Installing starter moldings on brackets

Plastic fittings are attached along the perimeter after 30 cm, having previously cut the corners by 45˚. Use nails with wide and flat caps. When they are not available, they make gaskets from 1 x 1 cm PET bottles. They make sure that the slats stick tightly to the crate, and if this fails, they put plastic inserts. In order not to cause damage, a bolt-shaped nozzle is used to finish off the nails.

Fastening the metal profile to the ceiling

If it is planned to repair the ceiling with plastic panels, a crate is also made on it, the installation technology of which is similar. The first bars are fixed 5 cm from the wall, first fixing the edges with dowels, and then along the entire length after 40 cm. The intermediate rails are placed every 0.5 m along a stretched cord, achieving the correct horizontal position.

Installation of PVC panels on the crate - quick and easy work

When the frame with plastic fittings is ready, proceed to lining. Each sawn off with a thin hacksaw with fine teeth. The dimensions are reduced by approximately 1 cm compared to the distance between opposite walls. This will avoid deformation of products, and the lack of length is compensated by the shelves of the corners.

The first element is installed tightly in the groove, pulled a little towards itself and fixed. Use nails with wide hats or staples for a construction stapler. It is important to properly fix the starting strip, strictly checking the level in order to sheathe the walls beautifully. The quality of the entire finish depends on the accuracy of this action. The following panels are guided by the first one, in case of an error, a skew will be noticeable - it will not be possible to fix it during the work, you will need to start all over again.

Panel fixing methods

All subsequent PVC strips are installed in the same way: the comb is inserted into the groove, the fit is checked, and then the fixation is carried out. The most difficult to put in place is the last element. It is cut along the length, having previously measured the distances from both ends. It is possible that the walls are uneven, so the width may vary. For ease of installation, a gap of 1 cm is left, which will hide under the corner.

Installing the last strip

The cut panel is inserted into the fittings until it stops, then slides into the groove of the previous strip. To do this carefully, they use an ordinary knife, the tip of which slightly pushes the lock, where the spike of the last element will enter. It cannot be fixed in any way: on one side it is fixed in the lock of the lining, on the other - in the seat of the fittings.

After the walls are completely finished, they begin to sheath the boxes installed to hide communications. Carefully measure the required length of each strip, cut blanks. Fix in one of the ways: nails or staples. Finally, decorative corners are fixed to give a beautiful look.

Ceiling cladding begins after the completion of wall cladding. For lamps, holes of the required size are cut out in the panels. They do not forget to do the same before installing the lining on the walls - they provide places where sockets, switches, pipes, ventilation come out. They mark the attachment points of the sink, cabinets, and other equipment, so that later they do not have to search for rails designed to fix them.

The final chord in lining the toilet with panels is the installation of ceiling and floor skirting boards. Products from various materials are used: expanded polystyrene, ceramics. The easiest option is plastic outer corners, similar to those into the grooves of which the lining was inserted. They are fixed with glue at the joints. With good quality, it sets very quickly, so you should hurry so as not to dry out.

Making the design of the toilet with plastic panels is not very difficult. Everything will take two days, and the experience gained will allow you to decorate more complex rooms. A variety of colors and textures gives scope for imagination, and with a skillful approach, the room will be comfortable and expressive.

The most difficult and crucial stage in the repair of a bathroom can be considered the finishing of walls and ceilings. Most often, toilets are sheathed with plastic panels or tiled. Sometimes bathrooms are also decorated with mosaics or decorative plaster on drywall.

In some cases, lining or wooden panels can be used for cladding. Of course, in order for all surfaces to eventually turn out to be neat, repairs should be carried out in compliance with certain technologies.

How to sheathe a bathroom with plastic panels

Modern wall panels are the most convenient material option for finishing a bathroom. The room sheathed with them will look quite modern and aesthetically pleasing.

Among other things, plastic panels are not at all afraid of moisture, are hygienic, and their cost is low. Thus, with their use, you can make a budget, but at the same time high-quality repairs.

Preparatory activities

Before starting the repair, an estimate is made with the calculation of all necessary materials. Here is a small example of a bathroom renovation estimate:

How to calculate the cost of repairing a toilet

Of course, when repairing a small toilet in an apartment with your own hands, such a detailed list is not necessary. But the cost of basic materials is still worth estimating.

Before you start finishing with PVC panels, all furniture and household appliances are removed from the bathroom. Plumbing can be left for the duration of the repair, but it is also better to dismantle and clean it. Moreover, during repairs, it usually changes to a new one.

Old wallpaper should be removed from the walls before finishing, as well as their surface should be cleaned and treated with anti-rotten compounds.

Bathroom renovation. Preparing walls for finishing

The repair of the combined bathroom is carried out according to certain rules, since the air in such a room is very humid. In this case, the slats are installed only on the crate. In conventional toilets, the slats can be glued directly to the walls.

Frame installation

Since the walls and ceilings in the bathrooms of modern apartments are rarely perfectly even, they usually mount a plastic lining, usually with a pre-installation of the frame. The latter is easiest to make from wooden slats 40x25 mm. The elements of the crate are usually fastened horizontally. The frame is fixed directly to the wall with self-tapping screws with plastic dowels. The step between the slats is no more than 50 cm.

It is best to fix PVC lamellas when finishing the bathroom on a wooden frame

Advice: To align the frame at the points of attachment of the purlins, you can put laths of the required thickness or pieces of plywood.

After the entire wall is upholstered, you can proceed with the installation of the corner elements, as well as the upper and lower plastic guides. They are fastened to the frame with brackets using a construction stapler.

When decorating walls with panels, corner elements are pre-installed

Panel mounting

To repair the bathroom, you can choose plastic panels of any color. But light lamellas will look better in this small room. There are actually many options for decorating a toilet with plastic. To see this, just look at the catalog of any online construction store.

Design finishes such as PVC panels can have a very different

Actually, the decoration of the bathroom with plastic panels is done as follows:

  • Previously, a spike is cut off at the first lamella.
  • After that, it is inserted into the corner start element.
  • On the reverse side, the first lamella will need to be fixed to each purlin on a clamp or bracket.

  • The spike of the second panel is inserted into the groove of the first. To insert into the upper and lower guide, the element will have to be bent slightly. The second panel is attached to the crate in the same way as the first.
  • All other lamellas are installed in exactly the same order.

  • The last panel is inserted into the finishing corner profile without additional fixation to the crate.
  • Ceiling decoration is performed in exactly the same way.
On a note: Today on sale there is a PVC profile specially designed for mounting plastic panels. The fastening of the crate and the lamellas themselves in this case is carried out using the same technology.

Glue mounting

Do-it-yourself bathroom renovation in the event that the walls in it are even and it is not combined with a bathroom can be done using a simpler technology. In this case, PVC lamellas are attached directly to the surface of the room with liquid nails. The sequence of work in this case will be as follows:

  • Repairs begin with cleaning the walls and ceiling from dirt. Next, the surfaces should be primed.

  • Large drops of liquid nails are applied to each panel pointwise in a checkerboard pattern with a step of about 30 cm.
  • Next, the panel is firmly pressed against the surface and held in this position for several seconds.
  • All other elements are attached in the same way.

Tiles - despite the fact that the price is higher - toilets are trimmed even more often than PVC panels. The bathtub, finished with modern design tiles, looks stylish and presentable.

In addition, it is much more difficult to damage a tile than plastic. The only drawback of ceramics can be considered only some difficulty in installation. Of course, you can repair the bathroom using tiles with your own hands. However, when performing this work, you should strictly adhere to all the required technologies.

Wall alignment

Repair of a combined bathroom in Khrushchev or a separate toilet usually begins with the alignment of all surfaces. It is better not to glue tiles on curved walls. Otherwise, the room will look messy.

When repairing the walls in the bathroom for tiling, they must first be carefully aligned

The alignment procedure includes the following steps:

  • The old plaster is peeling off the walls and ceiling. The tile that has served its purpose is removed from the floor.
  • Continue the repair by gluing (on gypsum mortar) plaster guides.

  • Once the gypsum has set, you can start applying new plaster. The solution is thrown between the beacons in large pieces, and then carefully leveled with a rule.
  • The walls of the bathrooms in Khrushchev are leveled using the same technology.
  • A screed is arranged on the floor along the lighthouses.

Floor repair begins with pouring the screed

Important: The minimum thickness of the concrete screed is 3 cm. For the device of a thin layer, special leveling mixtures are used.

Repair of a bathroom in a panel house can be carried out without preliminary leveling of surfaces. The walls in such buildings, unlike block and brick ones, are usually quite even.

Installation of tiles

Tiles for a bathroom - especially a joint one - will only fit a special one, designed for use in conditions of high humidity. You can buy this variety at any hardware store. The tile is installed in the following order:

  • At the first stage of repair, the walls and ceiling are carefully coated with a penetrating primer.

Walls for tiles are pre-marked without fail

Advice: The walls are usually finished first. Then the tiles are glued to the ceiling, and at the final stage - to the floor.
  • Next, the surface is marked according to the height of the tile.
  • Installation of elements starts from the bottom.
  • Glue is applied to the wall with a notched trowel or a special grater.

On a note: You can install tiles in the bathroom both in even rows and in a run.
  • A day after installation, the crosses are removed, and the seams are overwritten with a composition of a suitable color intended for this.

Advice: Floor tiles are installed using the same technology. Walking on the floor after its installation is possible only after the glue has completely dried.

Use of other materials

Tiles and plastic panels are the most popular types of finishes for bathrooms. However, in some cases, repairs can be made using other materials.

Mosaic finish

Tiles during repairs can be replaced, for example, with mosaics. Finishing a bathroom with this material is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Smalt, ceramic and glass mosaics are sold not in small pieces, but in panels, approximately 30x30 cm in size. During production, the elements are glued face down on paper. After gluing the panel to the wall, it is simply wetted with water and removed after soaking.

Drywall finishing

This material for finishing bathrooms, both combined and separate, is also used quite often.

Important: For finishing wet rooms, you can use only moisture-resistant green drywall.

Installation of this type of finish is made either on a wooden frame or, which is better, on a metal frame.

Drywall finishing is usually done through a metal frame

From above, decorative plaster is most often used to finish drywall in the bathroom. Finishing work with this material is carried out in stages:

  • Previously, the surface of drywall is primed with a special tool.
  • After the primer has dried, the plaster itself is applied to the walls and ceiling with a trowel in circular or direct hand movements. Its layer should be quite thin.
  • After the first layer has dried, you can apply the second, and then the third. For structural plaster, one or two will be enough. Textured is applied in 5-12 layers.

Wood paneling

Wooden panels in the bathroom are usually used only if it is not combined with the bathroom. Their installation is carried out using the same technology as the installation of plastic panels.

Sometimes bathrooms are finished using wooden panels.

As you can see, repairing a bathroom with your own hands is a rather troublesome task, but quite doable. Do the finishing slowly and carefully, and you will get a beautiful modern toilet with smooth walls and ceiling. If the paneling and tiling technology seemed too complicated for you, you can always hire specialists. Many companies today perform turnkey finishing of bathrooms and inexpensively.
