As for the design style, the interior of a timber cottage can be both traditional and quite modern. The desired aesthetic effect is achieved by means of "auxiliary" means - flooring, furniture, lamps and decor items.

The inner walls are reduced to their light sanding and subsequent processing with a glazing material, which emphasizes the natural beauty of the glued laminated timber, while removing the yellowness inherent in pine. The design style is, with single borrowings from the loft and Japanese aesthetics.
2. Laconic interior of a log house
Covered with transparent varnish - in the future, the pattern characteristic of the Angarsk pine will appear even brighter and more actively. The clients did not resort to the services of a professional designer, because they had a good idea that the interior should be laconic in a modern way, built on a combination of different shades of gray and white.

Customers were alien to modern aesthetics, in addition, they planned to "relocate" antique furniture into a new home. The hostess also indicated her color preferences - she really likes the warm, in her words "fragrant", shade of coffee with milk. The designers took the Gustavian (Swedish) style as a basis. The latter accepts almost any addition, both classic and modern, without losing lightness and elegance.
Such openness allowed the authors of the project to introduce into the interior, as well as to abandon the generally accepted practice of leaving without additional finishing. Some walls in the house were sanded and covered with translucent paints and varnishes, others were first sewn up with drywall, after which they were pasted over with wallpaper or painted in a shade of coffee with milk.

To decorate the walls in this cottage, they used a design method borrowed from furniture manufacturers. First, the walls were covered with matte paint in one layer. After the latter dried up, the wood was sanded. Thus, it was possible to emphasize the unusual natural texture of the material without resorting to harsh methods such as brushing (artificial aging with special metal brushes).
With ceilings lined with larch clapboard, they acted differently. The texture of larch is more interesting than that of pine. Therefore, very thin paint applied to ceiling surfaces was immediately removed with a damp cloth. What seized, then seized, but the "impregnation" came out very natural. When designing the interior, the architect proceeded from the fact that “beautiful and expensive” is by no means synonymous with comfort. In his opinion, a wooden house should be spacious, well-groomed and comfortable in a European way.
A similar atmosphere can be created using the Provencal style, but the author of the project wanted to avoid associations with the rural lifestyle. Therefore, his choice was simple and at the same time elegant wooden furniture, the design, lines and finishes of which only remotely resemble the furnishings of the houses of the southeastern provinces of France.
5. Rustic house

The owners preferred the rustic style of the cottage. The walls in all rooms, with the exception of the guest bedroom, shower room and sauna, were painted white. For work, a glazing composition was used, which emphasized the texture of natural wood. The furnishings were made up of items painted white (cabinet furniture) or upholstered with printed or plain fabrics in the shade of unbleached linen (sofa, armchairs, couch, beds).
Such a choice is quite justified - the total footage of the cottage is small, and light colors contribute to the optical enlargement of the premises. The provincial character of the decoration was emphasized by adding items that are intended for use on the street. So, the dining group was equipped with wicker chairs, and large garden lights were placed in the living room.

The decoration of all rooms is designed in a single color scheme. The tone is set by pine timber, in the group of its support - white, gray, black and numerous shades of beige. Non-bearing, erected on internal partitions, sheathed with aspen clapboard. Thus, wooden structures are imitated. At the same time, the choice of material is not entirely trivial: it is customary to use aspen moldings for finishing baths and saunas because of its resistance to the simultaneous effects of high temperatures and steam.
In this case, preference is given to aspen because its wood has a very light, almost white color and a slightly pronounced texture. The calculation was made that after processing with glazing compositions, the material would acquire the desired, pine tone, and foreign elements (growth rings, heart-shaped rays, fibers, etc.) would not shine through the transparent color coating. For the same reason, aspen lining was also used for ceiling cladding. It was covered with white paint, visually raising the level of the ceilings.

The walls of the house, made of profiled timber, did not need special decoration. From the inside, a glazing composition was applied to the vertical surfaces using a transparent paint and varnish coating. A similar material was also used for pre-sheathed pine clapboards. The coloristic palette used for interior design is made up of warm natural shades. Thanks to this, it seems that the house is a little warmer than it actually is.

For timber structures, no other finish was expected than grinding and coating with a glazing composition. An exception was made for the hall on the first floor, one of the walls of which was lined with quartzite. Working with stone was not difficult, since the wall appeared in the process of working on the interior and was made of brick. When designing the interior, the designer proceeded from the fact that the decoration did not conflict with the lifestyle and taste of the customers.
The owners also accepted her idea that a wooden house should not be filled with non-functional furniture and agreed with the proposed design concept in. Dynamism was given to the interior through the use of original flooring layouts, unexpected combinations of wood and stone in the wall decoration, smooth and ornamented textiles. The color of the Angarsk pine wood is very active, so it was necessary that the accompanying materials differ radically in tone and at the same time form a harmonious composition with it.

The customers were engaged in decorating the premises themselves. However, "on paper" all the furniture had already been put in place - for example, it was with its help that general-purpose areas were identified: the kitchen, dining room and living room. The working documentation also indicated the type of floor and wall coverings, and developed lighting scenarios. The owners had to choose those items and materials that suited the style, color, size and financial considerations.
Gray and chocolate tones, as well as shades of beetroot and eggplant, were chosen as companions to the color of natural pine. If we talk about style, then the preference was given to modern aesthetics in it, that is, without glossy painted surfaces and bright colors. In addition, the owners of the cottage tried to acquire either very simple in design, in other words, “eternal”, things, or products that even during the life of their creators claim to be cult.
10. White walls in the interior of a house made of timber
The walls of the cottage are built of profiled glued beams made of spruce. The unusual choice of building material is due to the higher decorativeness of spruce. Its texture is smoother (the main drawback - knotty - is eliminated during production), and the color is whiter. Therefore, the desired decoration of the house - painting the walls and ceilings in white - was faster and easier. Surfaces were simply covered with opaque matt white paints.
For the decoration of the cottage, they used the achromatic palette traditional for the Scandinavian countries, which is quite understandable. The building is located in a picturesque area, and its impressive windows are designed to “include” the landscape in the interior. White surfaces do not come into dissonance with the landscape outside the windows that changes during the year, and besides, they reflect natural light well (which is important in northern countries). Well, black and gray are companion colors, which sometimes become invisible, imperceptible. 11. Modern aesthetics in the interior of the house.

The profiled beam was treated with a water-based tinting impregnation. The coating ennobled the pine moldings, evened out its tone. In the future, it will hide the inevitable change (darkening) of the color of the walls. As for the design style, the authors of the project suggested that the customers resort to an unexpected composition for decorative moves and an all-accepting modern aesthetics. Thus, they were able to confidently combine silver and gold (lamps and accessories in the kitchen-dining room), gloss and patina (finishing materials), tinted wood and forged metal (), ethnic details and “high design” objects (elephant figurines, console tops , lamps, small furniture).
They managed to achieve the greatest contrast and at the same time harmony when arranging materials for wall and floor decoration. Strongly tinted pine timber with noticeable knots goes well with porcelain stoneware, the texture of which reproduces rusty metal “eaten” by time.
12. Chalet style with French country elements

Customers needed budget, but high-quality and aesthetic solutions. In addition, the interior had to be in harmony with the architecture of the cottage. The unobtrusive and at the same time natural chalet style with French elements has become the optimal choice in such conditions. Such a mix did not conflict with the timber walls and brought domestic features to the premises.
Among other things, the moderate but noticeable decor typical of French country music (furniture on chiseled or, conversely, curved legs, furnishings with forged details) made it possible to delicately bypass the issues of decorating wooden walls and enliven monotonous surfaces. The architects implemented several "urban" solutions, thanks to which they managed to avoid the usual finishing of timber walls. In the kitchen area and in the bathrooms, the lower part of the walls was lined with ceramic tiles with a “handicraft” or English theme, and the stair risers were finished with the same material. Wallpaper was used to decorate the walls. In combination with a rough timber, their Toile de Jouy plots look even more tender.
Another way to bring variety to monotonous wooden walls is to use a variety of decorative elements: mirrors in unusually ornamented frames, tables for one candlestick or bust, tapestries, watercolors.
13. House in the style of a Russian estate

In the course of work, the interior of a small house, originally planned by the owners as minimalist, was transformed to match the old-fashioned environment of the building - it became habitable, filled with objects “with history”. However, the owners still managed to start implementing the original interior design. For example, in all rooms, a rough screed was made for laying a water-heated floor (with ethylene glycol as a coolant) and the subsequent installation of porcelain stoneware under a stone. Nevertheless, the designer skillfully entered the floor covering, which is not quite traditional for a Russian estate, into the overall picture.
