Bathroom sink dimensions standard. Standard bathroom sink sizes: double, mini, narrow, corner. Sink size selection

We all have bathrooms of different sizes. Someone has a small combined bathroom in the "Khrushchev", and someone has a huge bathroom in a cozy cottage. But they all have one thing in common - the sink installed in the room. And the washbasin is most often placed on the cabinet, because it is a functional and comfortable piece of furniture. But for different dimensions of the premises, different sizes of sinks and cabinets are required. The larger the bathroom, the wider the washbasin can be placed in it.

It is generally believed that for ease of use of the sink, its width should be at least fifty centimeters. Smaller washbasins are usually placed in the bathroom and are not used for the bathroom. Large sinks are welcome, but their width is calculated based on the size of the room. A meter wide washbasin would look ridiculous in a standard bathroom.

The width of the cabinet for the sink, as a rule, is determined by the manufacturer and is made to fit the standard size of the bowl or a little narrower, it all depends on the design of the model. If you choose a double sink, then the size between the centers of the bowls is decisive. It should not exceed ninety centimeters.

The easiest way to check the depth of the cabinet and sink is to stand close to the wall of the cabinet or washbasin and stretch out your hand. If the opposite edge ends in the middle of your palm or fingertips, then the product fits perfectly according to the given size. The best indicator of depth is the size from forty-eight to sixty-one centimeters.

The height of the cabinet should be given special attention. Typically, manufacturers make this furniture with a standard height of 800 to 850 millimeters. Doctors believe that for ease of use, the height of the washbasin for men should be from 94 to 109 centimeters, and for women - from 81 to 92. If you calculate the average value, it turns out that the optimal height of the cabinet is from 86 to 93 centimeters. This is ideal.

Provided that there is a child in the house, a small stand is needed so that he can comfortably wash his face. After all, you will not change the height of the cabinet for the sink every year, given that the baby is growing.

Thus, we note that the standard and most universal sizes are:

  • width. Not less than 50, but not more than 60 centimeters;
  • height. From 86 to 93 centimeters;
  • depth. Not more than 61, but not less than 48 centimeters.

Special dimensions

Having dealt with the standard dimensions of the cabinet with a sink, you should talk about the special ones. Since there are a great many sizes that are lower or higher than those already described. Of course, we will not delve into the gradation of calibers of custom-made cabinets, but we will analyze the most common products in more detail.

Note that if you didn’t quite guess with the dimensions of the cabinet or sink, then most likely an ugly gap will form between them. The following video will tell you how to hide such an oversight:

Narrow and small

The concepts of a narrow and a small pedestal with a sink cabinet for the bathroom are almost the same. Since the width of almost all narrow washbasins is small, it is possible not to distinguish between these two concepts.

The narrowest cabinets with a bathroom sink are made thirty or forty centimeters wide. Moreover, only corner models are thirty-centimeter, which are used mainly in bathrooms or very small washing rooms.

Models with a width of forty centimeters are most often installed in the toilet rooms of country houses. By the way, they are also made in. But there are also rectangular, with a round bowl for washing, as well as models of classic shapes. Hanging options are also available.

Some of our readers ask about the existence of narrower cabinets for the sink in the bathroom, for example, 20 cm wide. Let's make a reservation, products of this size are made only to order, they are not mass-produced. In addition, it will be quite difficult to fit a sink into them, since the minimum faience products exceed the specified width by ten centimeters.

Let's talk about the most popular models:

  • "Note 40". Compact rectangular. Manufactured by the Russian furniture company Aquanet. The body of the product is made of moisture-resistant laminated chipboard, and the facade is made of MDF. The sink is made of cast marble. The door has a steel chrome handle. Cabinet dimensions 400x350x440 mm. The price of the model is 8390 rubles;
  • "Azov 40". Small from the furniture factory "Runo". The hole for the tap is made in the corner of the bowl for washing. The body is made of laminated chipboard, and the facade is made of moisture-resistant MDF. The front legs and fittings are made of chrome-plated steel. The curbstone has two oar doors. The dimensions of such a cabinet in the bathroom with a sink are 410x293x850 millimeters. The cost of "Azov 40" is 3540 rubles.

Big and wide

Almost all manufacturers offer a huge selection of large and wide models of bathroom cabinets. Since we found out that the average size of an ordinary sink in width is from fifty to sixty centimeters, then all products larger than these dimensions can be considered large.

But there is one caveat. It is generally accepted that curbstones with a sink at least one hundred centimeters wide are considered wide. The largest serial samples reach a width of one hundred and twenty centimeters. Such models will fit into huge bathrooms and provide maximum comfort. And a large number of shelves and drawers will allow you to place a lot of useful little things and accessories.

Here are the top selling models:

  • Emily 100. Large floor cabinet with a sink for the bathroom. Produced at the domestic furniture factory "Francheska". The body is made of moisture-resistant laminated chipboard, and the facade is made of MDF. The faience sink "Marko 1/1000" is included in the package. The front legs and drawer handles are made of chromed steel. Product dimensions 995x800x440 mm. The cost of the model is 12730 rubles;
  • Carmen 120. A wide floor cabinet with a sink from the well-known Russian manufacturer Vod-ok. The product is made of moisture-resistant MDF and chipboard painted with enamel. The sink is made of sanitary ware fired using a special technology. Doors and pilasters are carved with gilding or silvering, at the request of the customer. It has three hinged doors, on which closers are installed, ensuring smooth opening and closing. The manufacturer's product warranty is two years. The price for "Carmen 120" is 44,800 rubles.

The right choice of washbasin can be called one of the central nuances in the interior of the bathroom. An experienced designer is always trying to combine different functions using one piece of furniture. In this case, these are the functions of a washbasin, countertops and a place to store detergents. At the same time, the useful area of the bathroom is significantly saved.

Habitual standards

The usual shapes for all models of washstands are square, rectangle, oval, circle and triangle. The first and most important selection criterion will be the availability of free space in the bathroom. Most often, buyers choose oval and rectangular washbasin bowls.

Product types:

According to the type of sink, the washbasin can be classified as:

  • suspension;
  • round;
  • on a pedestal;
  • overhead;
  • countertop;
  • recessed top/bottom;
  • double;
  • water dispenser;
  • oval (the so-called "toothless");
  • rectangular;
  • economy;
  • premium.

How to choose?

The question of choosing the size of the sink in the bathroom during the repair is always relevant. The richest choice of various options for sanitary products from various manufacturers gives scope to the imagination. But the selection process should begin with determining the required dimensions of the bowl.

The first step is to measure free space. They get information in different ways, either by measuring the room with a tape measure, or by looking at the documentation. After that, a preliminary diagram is drawn up, which shows how the washbasin will be located in the bathroom.

Such a scheme should reflect the dimensions of everything that is in the bathroom. Therefore, the subsequent calculation of free space will not be difficult.

Please note that when cleaning, you will need a little more free space than with the standard use of the bathroom. All this will help you in choosing the approximate dimensions of the washbasin and thinking over its location in the bathroom.

Height and other parameters

Washbasin sinks are usually classified based on their dimensions:

  • compact mini-sink, which is suitable for small bathrooms;
  • a sink having a standard size and configuration;
  • other variants of washbasins, which are a washstand for two persons or a variant combined with different cabinets;
  • models with individual types of design, which are made according to the personal requirements of the customer.

When choosing the location of the sink, it should be provided for:

  • width;
  • height from the floor;
  • bowl depth.

A large bathroom or bathroom is mostly equipped with washbasins with a large sink, 90-120 cm wide.

Only a sink can be made even wider for simultaneous use by two or more people. With a sufficient area of \u200b\u200bthe bathroom to use plumbing of this size, there is a very real chance to place a large cabinet below. Double sinks are made up to one and a half meters wide.

When choosing and installing a sink on your own (especially with a cabinet), you must not forget that access to the installation sites of water meters, filters and communications should not be blocked. One of the ways to prevent this situation is the absence of the back wall of the cabinet.

In a small bathroom, an oversized washbasin will take up a lot of space, although a minimal washbasin may not be enough. If you use a shallow and narrow sink, then splashes that sometimes cover the entire surrounding space cannot be avoided, and cleaning will be carried out in such bathrooms much more often.

Before you visit retail chains in order to purchase plumbing, you must first calculate the parameters of the bathroom area that will be occupied by the washbasin. Unfortunately, sellers do not in all cases indicate the actual dimensions of the products. Therefore, you need to write down the necessary parameters with accurately measured width, height and depth of the bathroom niches. This helps a lot to understand how much free space will remain after installing the sink. This idea should be used by owners of small bathrooms.

The optimal width of the washbasin is from 40 to 70 cm. A large width will only reduce the usable area in a small bathroom. If one person does not need such an overall washbasin, then for a large family in the bathroom you can place the original sink, which is large in size and of considerable length.

Accordingly, a small area bathroom is usually equipped with small washbasins no wider than 45-60 cm. Such devices are more suitable for small office washrooms, since at home they are installed only when absolutely necessary - due to lack of space. Due to the small depth of the sink, splashing from the falling water jet will necessitate frequent cleaning.

When calculating the width and depth of the sink, you need to evaluate the area that the mixer will occupy.

How to choose the depth of the washbasin?

The most convenient washbasin depth for optimally comfortable use is 60 - 65cm. The reason for this choice is the anatomical features of those who will use the device. The easiest way to determine the appropriate parameters is to use the length of your own arm. Pull it over the bathroom sink. If its opposite edge is at the level of the palm or the tip of the middle finger, everything is in order with the depth of the washbasin.

You can purchase models "tulip" and "semi-tulip". They are deservedly considered the most convenient to use.

What should be the height?

The height of the washbasin is the distance from the floor to the top of the appliance. The height of the washbasin above the floor is adjusted depending on the model. When choosing a wall-mounted washbasin, this is the simplest action, as it is installed on the walls. It will be most convenient for a person of average height to use a washbasin located at a height of 70 to 90 cm. It is believed that a ceramic washbasin of 90-100 cm is most suitable for men of average height; for short people, the sink should be placed a little lower - 85-90 cm.

In less frequent cases, users find out during operation that a washbasin is needed, located at a higher or lower level.

It is especially important to take this into account when buying the already mentioned “tulip” or “semi-tulip”, since these models are not suspended, respectively, the height level of the sink must be selected in advance.

If you plan to mount the washbasin above the washing machine, the installation level of the sink must be chosen in excess of the dimensions of the machine itself in height.

Material

The sink of the washstand can be made of different materials: ceramics, metal, natural or artificial stone. Ceramics are used more often for sanitary ware, because they are durable, get dirty a little, and do not emit an unpleasant echo when water is collected. Also popular are shells, the material for which is artificial stone - they have a smaller mass.

Options for the area

Many factors go into choosing a sink buyer. Some are interested in how functional the washbasin will be, others are interested in its completeness, color, material, shape of the sink. Still others are interested in the popularity of the manufacturer. The fourth may specifically need an unusual design, and they are not interested in anything other than the fact that the washbasin will amaze with its original appearance.

A simple buyer will probably be primarily concerned with the functionality of the sink. Responsible for its functioning are all the holes that were provided by the manufacturer.

These are drain holes, overflow holes, for installing a mixer, various mounting slots. Of course, the drain is provided by all manufacturers, but protection against overflow of water over the edge of the sink, so as not to flood the neighbors from below, is not provided by every manufacturer.

"Overflow" is one or more holes that are located on the side wall. Its function is to prevent excess water from getting on the floor if the bowl is filled to the brim, but to direct them into the sewer.

Speaking of the mixer, you need to remember about all the variety of their choice. You need to know the model and, if there are not enough slots, be ready to drill them.

The presence of additional components for the washbasin (protective mesh for the drain hole, overflow plugs, siphons, fasteners, plastic or rubber gaskets) takes place at manufacturing companies that have earned the trust of buyers. Such an addition of devices is done to simplify the process as much as possible so that you do not have to waste time on a second visit to the distribution network.

Peculiarities

In small bathrooms, due to the lack of free space, it is customary to save money - in 99% of cases they put a cabinet under the sink.

The corner version of the sink is usually small in size., but saves free space, has a very stylish look and is comfortable to use. If you plan to place a cabinet under the sink, then it makes sense to make it hinged. This will make it easier to clean in a hard-to-reach corner.

The nuances of the design execution of washbasins are also quite important, since beauty and unusualness can be more than "compensated" by the inconvenience of their operation and installation. At least, before purchasing such an option, it is always advised to carefully remove all dimensions.

In turn, the asymmetry of the ergonomic shape of the sink is popular if it is used in a small bathroom. If you choose a sink and a bathtub in the form of irregular ovals with one tapered end, this is used to your advantage. Such a not very long washbasin will protrude with its narrowed edge above the narrowed side of the bath, which will save quite a lot of free space.

When picking up a washbasin, one should not forget about the children living in the apartment / house. Until a small person grows up, it is most likely that the washbasin will be too high for him. of course, putting a separate washbasin for him is not cheap, and there is not enough space.

It will be much more practical to adapt a low bench for him, which will serve as a stand for the baby. It will also be useful to nail rubber anti-slip pads to the legs for safety.

Norms of different countries

In our country, it is accepted that the owner of the apartment makes decisions about the location and installation of plumbing equipment on his own, building codes regarding both the size of bathrooms or bathrooms, and the distances from one plumbing element to another, exist.

Here are some examples of the most common room sizes.

  • For buildings that are used for living and public needs, the height and length of the bathroom in the plan should not be less than 0.80 m by 1.20 m. The ceiling should not be lower than 2.50 m.
  • The hinged toilet door must only be hung in such a way that it opens outwards.
  • For a combined bathroom, where, in addition to the most necessary plumbing equipment, showers, bidets and other devices are often installed, compliance with the following standards is mandatory:
  • leave at least 80 cm of free space from the bath or shower to any other bathroom facility;
  • at least 25 cm from the edge of the toilet bowl to the bidet;
  • at least 60 cm of free space in front of the toilet;
  • at least 30 cm of free space on each side of the toilet;
  • at least 50 cm of free space from the front edge of the washbasin to any other stationary object in the bathroom;

Not so long ago, in my youth, the tulip bathroom sink was the most desirable thing for many and the envy of all relatives and neighbors. But now times have changed and this miracle of the Soviet light industry has been replaced by exquisite products of foreign and domestic manufacturers that can satisfy even the most unusual fantasies.

Today I want to tell you what types and types of sinks there are, so that those who are going to do their own repairs do not get confused in a specialized store and choose the product that 100% meets their requirements.

Varieties of plumbing fixtures for bathrooms

There are a huge number of sinks specifically designed for use in the bathroom. I tried to classify them according to certain criteria, and as a result I got the following scheme:

I can't say which is the best sink out of all the ones shown in the illustration. After all, a lot depends on personal preferences and architectural features of your sanitary facilities. Therefore, I will focus on describing the features of all products known to me, and which one to choose specifically - decide for yourself.

Criterion 1 - By appearance and method of installation

One of the most important criteria by which sinks are usually chosen is design. Naturally, everyone wants their bathroom to look attractive and organic. Therefore, it will be correct if I start my description with this:

  1. Washbasin-furniture. Recently, in my opinion, this type of plumbing fixtures is used quite often. Usually simple serial options are used, but there are also design developments, the shape, color and dimensions of which are completely unique. The sink is always part of the interior, but its sides rise above the level of the countertop, protecting the latter from the destructive effects of water.

I personally consider the maximum functionality to be the advantage of this option. The furniture washbasin is designed to take full advantage of the cabinet. The table top can be made from various materials, including wood, natural and artificial stone. The water supply and the siphon connecting the drain to the sewer are completely hidden.

I don’t see any drawbacks as such, except for the need to choose furniture strictly for the interior of the bathroom. It is better to make such a sink to order or build a design around it as a central element.

  1. Recessed washbasin. A plumbing fixture that is also usually part of an interior or piece of furniture. Usually it is installed under the countertop and does not rise above it.

The sink is completely invisible, and excess water that accumulates on the surface can be easily brushed down. Thanks to this feature, the care of the recessed washbasin is greatly simplified.

This sink is very difficult to install. You need to do it yourself or order a countertop that fits exactly the size of the plumbing fixture. Moreover, the countertop itself must be made of materials that tolerate direct contact with the liquid well, since water will constantly get on the surface.

  1. Wall-mounted washbasin. It is fixed on the wall with anchors or embedded elements. It does not require the presence of interior items and emphasizes the minimalist style in the interior.

The disadvantage of this solution is the need for hidden laying of pipes for supplying water and draining. In addition, due to the lack of things, it is necessary to resolve the issue of places for storing hygiene and cosmetic products. A partial solution to the problem can be a sink with a wing that conveniently places soap, toothbrushes, and so on.

  1. Bathroom sink on a pedestal. This is the famous "tulip". The bottom line is that the washbasin is attached to the wall, and a cabinet is installed under it, in which it is good to hide the water supply pipes and the siphon.

Sinks of this design are ideal for classic bathrooms, as well as in cases where utilities are not hidden in the wall.

The downside of this solution, as in the previous case, is the lack of space for storing cosmetics. In addition, due to the fact that the cabinet is on the floor, it is difficult to maintain cleanliness near it. Especially in the place between the wall and the back of the washbasin leg, as access is very difficult there.

A pedestal bathroom sink is often installed in places intended for temporary residence, since its installation is very simple, and the price of such products is minimal.

  1. Semi recessed sink. Combined design. The washbasin cuts into the countertop in such a way as to protrude several tens of centimeters from the edge of the latter. A space is formed under the tabletop, which is usually used to install a bedside table or. Yes, and on the countertop itself you can store hygiene items.

The advantage of this design is that you can bend over the sink without any effort while washing. In this case, your knees will not rest against the cabinet doors.

The disadvantage of a semi-recessed washbasin is that access to the storage area is difficult. Bending down for soap or shampoo on the shelf, you will rest your forehead against the edge of the sink protruding from the edge.

  1. Flat washbasin. This type of sanitary ware is suitable for high-tech bathrooms and the like. Outwardly, it is a thin and narrow tabletop, in which there is a small recess for collecting water.

Due to its size, such a washbasin looks organically in a small room. Can be made from various materials, including glass, marble, granite and so on. To collect dirty water, a complex-shaped siphon is used, which is not visible from below.

The downside is poor functionality. It is more suitable for those cases when you just need to wash your hands (for example, in a guest bathroom or toilet). If you are going to shave, wash and brush your teeth every day, you will have to suffer from drops of water and hygiene products flying all over the room.

  1. Wash basin. Devices of various shapes and sizes, which are either installed directly on the countertop, or only slightly cut into it. Such a sink always stands out and serves as a central element of the interior, around which the entire design of the room is built.

In addition to the excellent appearance, the bowl-shaped washbasin has excellent functionality. If desired, you can even collect enough water there.

The disadvantage of the solution is the high installation height. If the countertop is installed at its usual level, the top cut of the washbasin will be too high for comfortable use by children and people of small stature. The issue can be resolved either by lowering the countertop, or by changing the design of the washbasin.

  1. Washbasin on cabinet. We are talking about the classic "moidodyr", which can often be found in plumbing stores. The design of such a washbasin is a cabinet on which a sink is placed on top. Moreover, the upper part of the cabinet repeats the configuration of the lower part of the washbasin to facilitate installation.

This option is suitable for economical repairs when you need to furnish a bathroom with minimal effort and money.

The sink in this case partially occupies the cabinet itself, which reduces the space for storing cosmetics and detergents.

Naturally, this list, by definition, cannot be exhaustive, as manufacturers are constantly working to expand the range of their products. However, it is these varieties, I speak from my own experience, that are most popular in our country.

Criterion 2 - By material

The most popular among consumers is the ceramic sink. There are two varieties: faience and porcelain washbasins. They are made of clay using special technologies, which I do not see the need to describe.

I will only say that among these two I always prefer porcelain, although it is much more expensive. The porcelain sink is subjected to long-term high-temperature firing, due to which it acquires a denser structure. The glaze of such a product is not covered with cracks and has a smoother surface that does not trap dirt.

The disadvantages of both solutions are heavy weight and fragility. It is necessary to take care of reliable fastening and be careful during installation.

However, faience and porcelain are not the only materials from which sinks are made. I compiled a small table in which I listed the most popular varieties.

Material Description
Composite Usually, acrylic is used for manufacturing, which is a binder, and fillers - granite, quartz, and so on. Such washbasins are characterized by increased durability, easy to clean, and excellent resistance to high temperatures and aggressive chemicals.
Glass Glass bathroom sinks look spectacular indoors and are quite functional. For their manufacture, a hardened material is used, which is characterized by increased strength. A transparent sink gets dirty quickly, so it needs to be thoroughly washed and rubbed (usually after each use).
Marble Washbasin material that can be part of a luxurious interior. This natural stone looks very expensive, but requires special care. Due to its high porosity, it absorbs water and gets dirty quickly. In addition, such a shell is very fragile. Well, the last limiting factor is the high cost.
Fake diamond Sinks made of artificial stone are not much different from products made from natural materials. However, unlike the latter, they cost almost an order of magnitude less. In addition, the artificial mineral is very durable, withstands mechanical stress well. But it can break on impact.
Stainless steel Such sinks are champions in terms of service life, therefore they are often installed in public places. They are easy to clean. But the surface of the material is easily scratched, and water drops leave a mineral coating that spoils the appearance of the product.
Wood Unique and rare items that are fabulously expensive. They organically fit only into some interiors. Wood undergoes a special treatment, after which it acquires properties similar to polymers. Such a sink should be used with extreme caution.

Having decided on the materials, it is necessary to resolve the issue with the dimensions of the plumbing fixture. This will be discussed further.

Criterion 3 - By size

The geometric parameters of the washbasin are selected purely individually, taking into account your needs, as well as the dimensions of the room and the presence of additional furnishings or household appliances in it.

  1. The ergonomically optimal width of the sink is between 40 and 70 cm. These are standard sizes, therefore such models are most popular with most consumers.

  1. Products less than 40 cm are classified as compact. They are not very convenient for daily use and are often placed in toilets, offices or cafes where the size of sanitary facilities is limited.

  1. Large washbasins (more than 70 cm) are much more expensive and I do not recommend using them if there is not enough free space in the sanitary room.

  1. Very large wash basins are over 1 meter wide. Usually, here we are talking not only about a bowl for collecting water, but also about additional elements (wings), which are often used to store hygiene and cosmetic products.

The sizes of sinks are limited only by the imagination of designers.

In addition to the width, the depth of the washbasin is important:

  • standard depth - from 30 to 60 cm, which is convenient for people with average physical parameters;

  • increased depth - more than 60 cm - is suitable only for tall people with long arms, everyone else will bend over a lot, which causes inconvenience when using;

  • reduced depth - such washbasins are inconvenient to use, as they do not hold splashes well, they are often used in places where people wash their faces or wash their hands only from time to time.

Criterion 4 - Form

As for the shape of the bathroom sink, here manufacturers are unlikely to be able to come up with something that does not fit into the framework of the science of geometry. I personally came across the following options:

  • square;
  • round;
  • oval;
  • rectangular.

But the options listed are classics. And often on sale you can find products of a special form that have a functional purpose. Here you can identify the following types:

  • washbasin with two bowls;
  • corner sink;
  • countertop sink.

It is impossible to give any specific advice on the choice here. The choice is yours alone.

Criterion 5 - By color

Previously, the question of choosing a color was not raised, and all plumbing was produced in white. However, now you can often find color options that help diversify the interior of the bathroom.

Moreover, I also came across a black shell, which, rightly, evokes mixed and not entirely pleasant feelings. But this is for me personally.

I will not list the entire color palette here, because I do not see the need for this. The only thing I want to say is to choose plumbing fixtures in the bathroom in the same color scheme. Otherwise, they will not be combined with each other.

Criterion 6 - By manufacturer

I want to dwell on the manufacturers in more detail. I will not tell you about all the factories I know, but only about those that I had to deal with:

  1. Roca. Personally, in my opinion, this is one of the most popular manufacturers not only in our country, but throughout Europe. The company itself is located in Spain and has been on the market for about a century.

Starting from a small workshop run by the two Roca brothers, today the company has grown into an international corporation with 23,000 employees. Six production centers of the company are located on the territory of the Russian Federation. The company manufactures products under the brands Santek, Laufen, Roca.

A feature of Spanish-made washbasins is a huge range of models and the highest quality products. The classic version is the Victoria sink, which fits perfectly into the interior of any bathroom. This plumbing fixture can be attached to the wall, built into the countertop and mounted on a pedestal.

  1. JacobDelafon. A French company whose products have been on the Russian market since 1994. The company produces not only sinks and washbasins, but also a complete set of equipment for their installation and connection.

In addition to classic models, the assortment of the company includes specialized models for children and people with disabilities. The most popular among domestic consumers are such lines as Odeon, Patio and so on.

Against the background of other products, the OdeonUp model stands out, which has the shape of a cube. It can be installed in the corner of the room, which makes it possible to optimally use the free space of the bathroom.

If you need something classic, then pay attention to the Patio line.

  1. Gustavsberg. An enterprise engaged in the production of sanitary ware since the beginning of the century before last (the year the company was founded - 1825). The company specializes in the production of porcelain washbasins. Collections of classical forms - Nordic and Basic.

They differ from competitors' products by a very dense surface, which is not subject to contamination due to a special coating. The mixer in such devices is not located in the center (as is customary) but on the right or left. This will diversify the interior of the room.

  1. Jika. Czech manufacturer of sinks and other sanitary ware. The products of this company are distinguished by an affordable cost, which is achieved without sacrificing quality. The company employs more than 800 employees.

In addition to the classic options, the Czechs produce seven unique author's collections. There is also a range of sinks designed exclusively for children or people with disabilities.

  1. Tef-Gonets. Russian manufacturer of bathroom sinks, which manufactures products using its own technology, protected by domestic and international patents.

This company specializes in sinks installed above washing machines. The most popular among manufacturers is the Water Lily model. It has standard dimensions and the mixer can be installed on the right or on the left (you must select the appropriate model).

  1. Aquaton. The company produces interior items for bathtubs and other sanitary facilities. This Russian company in 2011 became part of the international holding Roca, which had a positive effect on the quality of the products.

Very often, customers purchase inexpensive Smile sinks. They are equipped with cabinets of various sizes, which are used for convenient storage of cosmetics and detergents.

  1. Caesares. An Italian company that specializes in the manufacture of sinks of unique shapes and varieties. In the assortment produced by the company there are products in retro style, modern and so on.

The products of this company are very expensive, but have an unsurpassed appearance and excellent quality. The company gives a 25-year warranty on all its products. Moreover, it also applies to the glaze covering the surfaces of porcelain and faience.

  1. Colombo. The firm was founded on the funds of Ukrainian and Finnish investors. Since 2006, it has been part of the international holding Sanitec Group.

The company's products are distinguished by a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Here you can find both classic models and specialized products - for children or the disabled.

  1. Gala. An old Spanish company, which, like some others, once became part of the Roca concern.

This brand stands out from its competitors with its unique design. Overhead sinks of this company are very popular in Russia, for example, products that are part of the Luna line.

  1. marlin. An English trademark, which only recently appeared on the Russian market, but immediately became quite popular.

Such a rapid growth in the popularity of the sinks of this manufacturer in our country has become the optimal combination of several product features - accessibility, relevance and versatility.

The most popular are the Kyle line sinks, which have various types of fasteners and shapes.

In conclusion, I want to give a few tips that may be obvious to many, but will help you choose a model that is more suitable than others in your case:

  1. The style of the sink and other plumbing in the bathroom should be combined. It is better to buy a sink, bath, toilet, bidet from the same collection and the same color.
  2. The dimensions of the sink should be combined with the size of the bathroom. If the latter is too small, I advise you to pay attention to the corner washbasins.
  3. Do not buy products without an overflow hole. It will save you more than once, but more - your neighbors - from the flood.
  4. When buying a faucet, pay attention to whether it will fit your sink. Sometimes washbasins have design features that do not allow screwing one or another version of the mixer.

Otherwise, you can safely be guided by your own sense of beauty.

Major repairs carried out in the bathroom, often accompanied by the replacement of all accessories. This is the right occasion to replace an old standard washbasin with a more comfortable or spectacular one. If you are going to install a washbasin with your own hands, then you definitely need to pay attention to such parameters as the installation height of the sink, the way it is attached, the shape and size.

Types and shapes of shells

The modern market offers a huge range of washbasins. They can be made from the following materials:

  • faience;
  • porcelain;
  • glass;
  • metal;
  • tree;
  • granite;
  • marble;
  • artificial stone;
  • plastic.

These products are also varied in form. The following types of shells can be distinguished:

  • Corner. It is advisable to install such a product in small bathrooms or bathrooms with a non-standard layout. The corner configuration fits perfectly into the overall bathroom space with walls that have ledges or niches, a small toilet sink can also have this shape. The presence of a cabinet in this type of sink facilitates its fastening and increases functionality.
  • Rectangular bathroom sink. This shape will perfectly fit into a strict classic interior. You can simply mount it on the wall, place it on a cabinet or cut it into a table top. Mortise types are considered the most practical and durable: they do not have to be hung on the wall, and all communications to the faucet and drains are removed inside the stand.
  • The sink is round or rounded. Fits harmoniously into any interior. If there is not enough space, you can simply fix it on the wall. A sink mounted on a cabinet or combined with an acrylic countertop can be complemented with a decorative element, such as a mirror.

According to the installation method, washbasins are also divided into several types:

  • Washbasin-tulip. Allows you to save space under the sink. The hoses that supply water to the taps and the drain are located in a hollow narrow leg attached to the floor. Their installation is easy to do with your own hands, since there is no fastening of the sink to the wall.
  • The hanging option is the most common and budgetary, although perhaps not the best in terms of design: even if the supply and drain pipes are hidden in the wall, the siphon under the washbasin will still be visible.

Installing hanging sinks on a tiled surface is quite problematic: this has to be done in such a way that the attachment points fall on the seams between the tiles. But even in this case, the chance to spoil the tiled coating is quite large. It is much easier to use the option with a stand in the form of cabinets or countertops.

  • Overlay models. They have a beautiful design, and most importantly, they can be installed on almost anything: on a cabinet, countertop, and even on other furniture. The only limitation in their placement is the need to supply water to the faucet and then drain it.

A cabinet with a countertop for a mortise sink can be made by hand using available material. In such washbasins, ceramic sinks and lightweight acrylic countertops can be used. In a self-made stand, you can conveniently place shelves or drawers.

Sink size selection

Installing a sink in the bathroom has as its ultimate goal the creation of the most comfortable conditions for all the inhabitants of the apartment. To do this, you need to correctly determine the size of the sink.

Depending on the dimensions, all sinks can be divided into four groups:

  1. Mini-sinks are quite narrow, only 35-45 cm. It is recommended to hang them in bathrooms that are modest in size or have a complex configuration. Such washbasins allow you to comfortably wash only your hands, but are too small for a full wash. However, in the tiny bathrooms of Soviet-era apartment buildings, such sinks, often built into a small cabinet, are the only option.
  2. Common types of sinks have a width of 50 to 80 cm. According to the design, these can be either standard hanging models or mortise ones, combined with a countertop or cabinet. Round models are quite rare, preference is given to the semi-oval shape. A narrower bathroom washbasin will allow more efficient use of space.
  3. In large bathrooms, extended sinks up to 150 cm wide can be installed. Due to their rather solid mass, they are made built into countertops made of various materials. There are options with double sinks, symmetrically located on a solid stand.
  4. Exclusive models made to order. The shape and dimensions of such sinks are not limited by anything other than the financial capabilities of the customer. Modern plumbing manufacturers are ready to make a washbasin of any size, shape and color from any material for an appropriate fee. Such a sink can become a central element in the interior of the entire bathroom, the main thing is not to go beyond common sense.

How to choose the height of the washbasin

One of the most important parameters is the height of the sink in the bathroom. It should provide comfortable washing for each of the family members. The problem is that the height of the people living in the house can vary greatly. In most apartments, it is simply physically impossible to install more than one washbasin, so you will have to choose a middle option.

The sink is an important element of the bathroom. Since Soviet times, this plumbing fixture has been a must in this room. And really, you can't do without it! Washing your hands, face, brushing your teeth in the morning or shaving everything is done with the help of a sink. Therefore, it should be as comfortable and beautiful as possible. If you urgently need to change this element, then in the selection process it is necessary to take into account not only the shape and appearance, but also the dimensions of the sink in the bathroom, which are very important. Usually the bathroom has a small area, for this reason, all important plumbing fixtures must be of the right size and harmoniously fit the interior.

By size, plumbing is conditionally divided into varieties:

  • mini-sinks or appliances of compact dimensions. Products are mainly used in washrooms;
  • products with standard sizes;
  • extended wash basins. This type includes tandems of two sinks or products combined with a countertop;
  • exclusive models that are made to order.

Bathroom sinks

Be sure, before you go to the store for the sink, you need to make measurements of the place for plumbing. This will help you choose the right product that will blend perfectly with other plumbing fixtures.

What should be the width of the sink

The size of the sink width is of great importance. Comfortable use, as well as further installation of plumbing, depends on it. In any case, the width parameters must correspond to the size of the bathroom area.

Optimal sink width

What are the parameters of the width of the shells:

  • often for the bathroom, products with width parameters of at least 55 centimeters are used. These plumbing fixtures provide ease of use, and also fit into almost any room design;
  • there are products with compact dimensions, their width is from 35-45 cm. Washbasins are not intended for ordinary washing, they should be used for washing hands or other technical needs. Small size appliances save room space and are also an organic addition to bathrooms with a complex design and small areas;
  • products with a standard width size of 65 centimeters. Sinks with this width provide comfortable washing, during which splashes and drops do not scatter on the walls and do not form a puddle on the floor. However, it is not advisable to use washbasins for rooms with standard sizes, they will not bring benefits, but will only take up a large space;
  • products are produced that are intended for use by several people at the same time. Usually, a double-type washbasin is used for these purposes. The main thing during the choice must be taken into account so that during use, two people can safely perform hygiene procedures, and do not interfere with each other. Therefore, the level of the distance between the bowls for washing should be at least 90 cm;
  • for large bathrooms, sinks with an extended design should be used. These products are united by a tabletop, and the width is 150 centimeters.

Depth Level

In addition to the width, you need to pay attention to the depth parameters. Depth plays an important role. If it is small, then this will lead to unpleasant problems - water splashing, water getting on walls, floors and even clothes. Therefore, in order to purchase a quality product, you need to know the depth parameters. The optimal size of the depth of the washbasin is not less than 48 centimeters, but not more than 62 centimeters. To measure the depth level, it is not necessary to take a ruler with you. In the process of choosing, you need to get close to the plumbing, stretch out your hand and see where it will end - if in the middle of your palm or at your fingertips, then you can immediately buy a sink.

What should be the height

Height parameters must be taken into account in cases where it is planned to purchase a sink with a cabinet or on a pedestal. This criterion is of great importance, so it should not be overlooked.

Dimensions of washbasin with pedestal

The standard height of sanitary ware, which is set by the manufacturer, is from 80 centimeters to 85 centimeters. But still, this range does not always correspond to the physical indicators of a person, namely, the size of growth.

In order to ensure comfortable use by men, the washbasin should be installed at a height of 94-110 centimeters from the floor. For women, the optimal washbasin height will be from 81 to 92 centimeters.

Optimum sink height

From all this, you can calculate the arithmetic average, as a result, the most suitable height of the washbasins will be from 86 to 93 centimeters.

To ensure comfortable use of the sink by children, the product can be installed on a small stable stool. Small family members at such a height will be able to independently carry out all the necessary hygiene procedures.

Shell sizes

In plumbing stores you can often find different sizes of sinks that have different purposes. Sizes include the following:

  • 40 centimeters - used for a bathroom with a small area. Usually they are placed in the corner of the room. Available with cabinets, you can clean hygiene products and other things in them. This option is designed for small country houses;
  • 50 centimeters - designed for bathrooms with standard dimensions. They fit into any style of the room, give convenience and practicality. They are easy to care for, they are easy to wash and clean from dirt. Available in various types - overhead, hinged, built-in. They also come in a variety of shapes and colors.
  • 60 centimeters - sinks with these parameters are used in large rooms. Plumbing is in high demand among many apartment owners. It can go with a bedside table, or be used as a hanging option. The hanging option allows not only to save space, but dirt and dust will not accumulate under the hanging device;
  • 90 centimeters - the purpose of these washbasins is to use them in spacious rooms. They provide convenient use and give great pleasure in the process of performing hygiene procedures. They are additionally equipped with bedside tables in which you can store various hygiene products, household chemicals and other accessories.

Forms and materials for the manufacture of washbasins

In many construction and plumbing stores you can find washbasins of various shapes. It is worth highlighting the most common options:

  • corner washbasin;
  • shell-tulip. Plumbing is made in the form of a flower with a stem;
  • corner sink with cabinet. Products are ideal for bathrooms with a classic interior;
  • a sink that is built into the countertop;
  • washbasins built into cabinets;
  • rectangular, square;
  • bathroom products with smooth edges - oval, semicircular, round.

The dimensions of the sink are determined by the dimensions of the bathroom and the size of the family.

It is also worth paying attention to the composition of plumbing. The service life of the product depends on the type of material. Therefore, when choosing products, the greatest preference should be given to washbasins from the following types of material:

  • faience;
  • from a porcelain base;
  • from marble material;
  • from artificial material;
  • from granite composition;
  • from artificial stone;
  • from a mixture of acrylic resin, color additive and mineral filler;
  • from glass;
  • from wood;
  • from a metal base.

The size of the sinks is of great importance, because due to it the product will harmoniously fit into the interior and ensure further convenient use. When choosing a product, be sure to take this condition into account, and preferably select it for the area of \u200b\u200bthe bathroom. Sometimes large plumbing fixtures take up a large area and are not useful. Do not forget that the sink is the most important piece of equipment in the bathroom, so it should be convenient and comfortable in every sense.
