Without a chandelier: choosing alternative lighting for the bedroom. Lighting in the bedroom (17 photos): good examples of the location of lamps and spotlights Ideas for lighting the bedroom

It's no secret that even a very simple interior with proper lighting and high-quality accessories looks designer, and this applies not only to the bedroom. And the basic principle of selecting lamps in the bedroom is not much different from what I usually do in the living room or dining room: the lighting in the bedroom should be diverse. And the larger the area, the more variety in the types of lamps and their distance from the floor should be.

In the bedroom, the right light is soothing, adding soft reflections to the surfaces of the furniture, especially if translucent lampshades are used. The textures of the bedspreads, headboards, become more visible in subdued lighting.

Chandelier

There is a separate article about the choice and placement of a chandelier in the bedroom. , so let's not repeat ourselves.

Bedside lighting

In houses with a ready repair, I often observe not only the absence of conclusions for a sconce at the head of the bed, but also the absence of sockets for connecting any lamps at the head of the bed. This is extremely inconvenient, so if you are doing repairs for yourself, it is better to take care of this issue.

So, table lamps on bedside tables can act as bedside lighting. The main plus is that they are very beautiful in themselves, especially in classic styles. Such lamps often look more advantageous than sconces. In addition, they look good if you decorate the wall behind the headboard, dividing it into zones (separate symmetrical fragments are placed behind the bedside tables, for example, in the form of a mirror or interior graphics). Accordingly, the lamps on the bedside tables work well for layering, interacting with the background.

Among the shortcomings: they take up space on the bedside tables, are poorly suited for small interiors, clutter them up. In addition, such lamps provide a soft diffused light that brightens the bedroom, but may not be enough for reading. That is why experienced decorators often use them in combination with small swivel reading lights.

A common mistake I see in consultations is undersized bedside lamps. It is better to choose table lamps at least 40 cm high .

Speaking of sconces, first of all it is worth mentioning the usual fixed lamps. Please note that, if space permits, they are best placed on the sides of the bed, above the bedside tables, but not above the edges of the headboard itself.

If the sconces are located above the pillows, then either the headroom of the person sitting in the bed is reduced, or the sconces have to be placed too high, which leads to less chamber and less directional lighting.

The height of the sconce placement depends on their configuration. The standard height of the conclusions for sconces above the bedside tables is 130-150 cm from the finished floor. It is necessary to pay attention to how the base of the sconce correlates with its lampshade. If the base is higher or at the level of the lampshade, then the mounting height will be greater; if the base is below the lampshade, the height of the electrical outlet is lower.

In addition to fixed ones, consider sconces on swivel brackets. These lamps are easier to manage, but they also require more space in width: the center of the attachment must coincide with the center of the bedside tables, while the arm, when rotated, should not interfere with the person sitting on the bed.

A common alternative to sconces are pendant lights. The main thing here is not to miscalculate with height. Low-hanging pendants (the sweet is about the same as a table lamp would be if it were placed on a nightstand) create more local light and do not argue with the chandelier, if there is one. However, in my projects I practice the principle “either suspensions or a chandelier”. If there are suspensions, then I design ceiling lighting with technical / built-in light. It is also important that the lampshades of the pendants are dense enough so that the light passing through them is not blinding.

If you don't mind the elements of surprise in the bedroom, you can make asymmetric lighting by the bed, try a pendant, sconce, table lamp in various combinations. Or, as an option, there is one suspension on one side of the bed, and two on the other. In this case, the bedside tables can also be different.

Backlight

Light accents can be arranged using LED strips. But you need to understand that the backlight is a decor, and not a replacement for the main lighting.

The most common solution is cornice lighting around the perimeter of the room. If it is directed upwards, the ceiling becomes visually higher. If down - you emphasize the decoration of the walls and the design of the window. Separate led-lamps can highlight additional areas or elements of the bedroom, for example, highlight paintings. The perimeter LED strip goes well with the central chandelier and worse with suspensions.

Although, in one of my projects, I combined pendants with ledge lighting. But it has not only suspensions and lighting, but also a chandelier and a sconce.

Also, recently I have come across more and more projects where some textured beauty is placed behind the head of the bed: relief, fabric wallpaper, mosaic, painting with metallic elements. In this case, the LED lighting may not go along the entire perimeter of the ceiling, but hide in the ceiling niche directly above the decorative surface, emphasizing the volume or precious material. The tape is well suited for backlighting.

Spotlights also do not have to be allowed along the perimeter of the ceiling. I do not recommend pairing them with LED lighting. The combination of spotlights around the entire perimeter + chandelier is also in doubt. A more successful move is the placement of spotlights for functional lighting of individual areas, for example, the space next to the closet.

If your bedroom has other areas, such as a dressing table or a separate reading area, you need to provide separate light sources for them. Separate lamps can emphasize paintings or posters. At the same time, it is undesirable that all the lamps in the bedroom be from the same series, try to create a variety that is pleasing to the eye, but at the same time that they are combined with each other.

And if you haven’t watched the video about bedroom design in the article about the right chandelier in the bedroom, then you have the opportunity to get acquainted with it here.

Finding the right lighting for a bedroom is no easy task, even though it's now in bulk in every hardware store.

Here it is important to take into account all the little things and the understanding that the bedroom is primarily a place to relax, so there is a place for subdued light, but the room should not be dark.

To create a soft falling and comfortable light in the bedroom, you can completely abandon the chandelier.

For most, this interior option will seem strange, but if everything is calculated correctly, it will be a fundamentally new solution, especially in small bedrooms.

In addition to the chandelier, there are many more lighting options:

  • table and wall lamps;
  • sconces and floor lamps;
  • spot light on the ceiling;
  • hidden lighting and other solutions.

An interesting direction is the arrangement of light in the bedroom according to Feng Shui. Many articles have been written on this subject.

You can also put a spot light on the mirror, or arrange another light source next to the mirror, the same floor lamp or table lamp. This will give even more light to the room.

It is also important to consider how your favorite bed, wardrobe or other furniture stands, every little thing is important in spot lighting.

We select lighting for a comfortable stay

If you still decide to live without a chandelier, then it is important to choose the so-called target areas - where you spend a lot of time.

This question does not require haste, and a lot will depend on how conveniently the furniture is located in your room.

Only when you have completely outlined for yourself the places where you will rest, only then should you start mounting the lighting in the bedroom.

For example, if there is a dressing table in the bedroom, then it is better to equip a small lamp near it or put a table lamp.

If you want to spend time in a chair in front of the TV or read there, then it is better to take a floor lamp. When you spend all the time in bed and read and relax and watch TV, then it is better to think about several lamps at the head of the bed.

Choosing ceiling lighting

If you still want to give up the chandelier, then you should not turn out to be lighting the ceiling at all.

Even the spot and diffused light in the bedroom on the ceiling will give the room coziness and give a feeling of comfort. For example, a ceiling pendant around the perimeter of the ceiling, or just some kind of pattern of small ice bulbs.

Also for these purposes, you can mount a multi-level plasterboard ceiling. In this case, it is possible to install lamps of a built-in or surface-mounted type of installation.

What kind of lighting to choose for stretch ceilings?

For many, stretch ceilings have become a solution to many interior problems, but it turned out to be the most difficult to choose the light. Although such a ceiling can be equipped with any lamps: LED cords, ordinary spots and even overhead lamps.

The masters of installing such ceilings always have a couple of photos of lighting in the bedroom in stock.

Although it is forbidden to mount incandescent lamps on such a ceiling, as they will simply melt the film. For such a room, LEDs will be appropriate. They are mounted on special fasteners, which even an unprepared person can handle.

When the lighting system is mounted, it is hidden under the film or fabric of the stretch ceiling.

An interesting option for lighting in a bedroom with modern stretch ceilings will be when the light comes out, as if from the inside and falls on multi-colored glass, this will create a fabulous atmosphere and have a good effect on the eyes.

Lighting options above the bed

Naturally, in the bedroom, the focus is on the bed, and when there is no chandelier in the bedroom, additional lighting is indispensable.

The simplest and most uncomplicated lighting option in a small bedroom would be to place lamps above the bed or on the side (then the light will fall in the form of a kind of halo above the bed).

You can also choose a lamp of an unusual shape, if the interior allows it.

Above the bed, you can equip a small niche and put an LED strip there. This will not only decorate the room, but also give it more functionality.

You can also simply not bother and put a lamp on the cabinet or dressing table. This will give a working environment and is perfect for those who love to read.

Basically, when thinking about lighting, there are problems with the compatibility of lamps with the interior.

When you have already decided to make spot lighting in the bedroom without a chandelier, then there are many options for this, from wall lamps to ordinary table lamps. The main thing is that you feel comfortable in such lighting.

Photo lighting in the bedroom

To date, designers offer a large number of proposals for lighting in the bedroom. Many options are very interesting and unusual, but do not forget that the light in the bedroom should be part of the interior and decor.

Lighting in the bedroom is far from the last point in decorating, so it should be approached responsibly.

The bedroom is the only place in the house where you can give free rein to your feelings, emotions and fantasies. You can not limit yourself to monochromatic lighting, which means that there may be elements such as: muting the tone, background lighting, lighting with sconces and various lamps.

As a rule, the light in the bedroom should be just as bright, but it should not dazzle the eyes. It is worth noting that the light near the dressing table, which is present in every bedroom, should also not dazzle, on the contrary, it should be soft and calm.

Modern types of bedroom lighting

Every room needs central lighting, and the bedroom is no exception. All lamps should be installed so that when reading a book with a lamp on the bedside table, shadows are not created, for example.

A wide range of lamps and fixtures makes it possible to choose everything individually for the bedroom, from various forms of the sanctuary to a variety of its tones. Here are some sanctuary options for lighting in the bedroom: floor and wall lamps, sconces, various lamps and chandeliers for central lighting of the room.

To date, such a wide range that you can choose a model suitable for any interior and design. If you need to create a pleasant feeling and atmosphere, then you can use the following nuances:

  • The backlight, as a rule, is located behind the eaves, or decorative bedside lamps.
  • Illumination of decorative items in the bedroom.
  • Niche lighting.

What you need to pay attention to when buying items for lighting in the bedroom.

Consecration largely depends on the design of the bedroom and the decor in the room itself. If you need to focus on some elements of the interior, then lighting specifically aimed at this element will help you a lot.

To date, there are a large number of decor methods using various lighting, which allows you to give the room a different mood: an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, or a bright and cheerful mood.

By focusing attention with the help of lighting on any product in the bedroom, you make the interior complete and more individual. It is worth noting that a variety of lighting produces a different impression in the bedroom, which means you can easily change the mood of the bedroom itself.

Accessories in the bedroom began to be illuminated quite recently, but this did not stop them from becoming popular. Experts have proven that the role of lighting in the bedroom is very important, for example, with the help of lighting on the walls, you can visually enlarge the space of the bedroom, and the lighting under the eaves emphasizes the completed style of the bedroom.

The difference between the lighting in the bedroom and the lighting in other rooms.

The lighting difference in the bedroom is slightly different from the lighting from other rooms. If there is bright light in the hall, then in the bedroom it should be softer and not brighter.

It should not irritate the eyes, but on the contrary, it should be quiet and soothing, since in the bedroom a person should rest both physically and mentally.

Many people face problems when lighting a bedroom, because they do not assume that each corner of the bedroom needs individual light, somewhere brighter, and somewhere dimmer.

As a rule, the lighting of the dressing table in the bedroom is dealt with first of all, since this is the only corner where maximum light is needed. The lighting of the mirrors should be uniform, otherwise there is a risk of putting makeup or hair incorrectly.

Many people have the habit of reading books and magazines while lying in bed. In this case, wall lamps and sconces will help you. In order to choose the right models and figures of lamps, it is necessary to build on the lighting design in the bedroom.

Do not forget that when reading a book, the lamp must be turned on from the side where you read, otherwise the light will interfere with your other half's sleep, which means that such lamps are installed in parallel, on both sides of the sleeping area.

Some do not like to sleep in complete darkness, then artificial lighting, or lighting of decorative elements, comes to their aid. The photo of lighting in the bedroom shows that artificial auxiliary lighting makes the bedroom more calm and romantic, creating twilight. You can also create lighting in the bedroom with stretch ceilings and a joystick that regulates the light tone.

It has become fashionable to install projecting lamps that create certain shapes, for example, stars or hearts.

It is worth noting that in any room there should be a source of main lighting, and the bedroom is no exception. For such a case, a chandelier is suitable, which will give more proper lighting to the bedroom.

Photo lighting in the bedroom

Despite the fact that today you can find just a sea of various interesting solutions on the market, choosing the right and pleasant lighting when arranging a bedroom is not always so simple. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account many seemingly trifles, but the most important thing in all this is to understand exactly that any bedroom is, first of all, a place for your rest and relaxation, and therefore the lighting in the room must not be very bright and subdued.

One of the best solutions to organize comfortable and soft light in a room is the organization of lighting without using a chandelier. Surely for many people this approach to organizing light will seem a little strange, but for those who live in small apartments today, such a solution will be a way out of the situation. In addition, the bedroom can be made more comfortable without a chandelier, because today there are a lot of different accessories on the market, for example:

  • Wall lamp;
  • Lighting through colored glass;
  • Spot ceiling light;
  • Desk lamp;
  • Hidden backlight;
  • Floor lamp;
  • Lamps for reading.

Important to remember! If you have a dressing table in your bedroom, then it is recommended to place a separate light source for it, which can be arranged bright enough so that you can easily see yourself through the mirror.

In case the dim light is not enough for the room, you can always use the reflection effect. For this purpose, a table lamp standing on a flexible leg, or a spot light on a mirror, is perfect.

Choice of lighting

To properly organize the lighting in the bedroom without using a chandelier, the first step is to accurately determine the target areas, that is, the places where you will most often be in the room.

It is worth approaching this issue in a balanced way, and at the same time you can once again look at the arrangement of furniture in the room - how convenient all the items are, so that you can completely refuse to use the chandelier.

And when you finally plan out all the places where you will spend your vacation in the future, you can move on to the issue of choosing high-quality lighting in the bedroom.

Advice! You can pay attention to how a mirror, wardrobe, bed or chest of drawers is placed in the room in order to arrange them as conveniently as possible. Maybe your bedroom is large enough to accommodate a small coffee table for you to read after. It is worth considering every little thing when carrying out calculations and registration.

Light on the ceiling

In any case, if you are inclined to implement lighting in the bedroom without using a chandelier, you do not need to completely abandon the light on the ceiling surface.

Even if you provide diffused or spot light on the ceiling surface, proper comfort will already be provided for the room. For this purpose, a ceiling pendant installed around the perimeter of the ceiling can be an excellent option.

And if you choose this option, then you should prepare in advance that you will have to place a multi-level ceiling in the bedroom from.

In addition, this solution makes it possible to additionally place spotlights of a built-in or surface-mounted installation on the ceiling.

Stretch ceiling lighting

You can often hear the opinion that choosing the right light for the bedroom where it is located is quite problematic. However, in this case, you can use absolutely any kind of fixtures. These can be LED light cords, built-in spots, overhead lamps and many others.

It is important! In the bedroom, you can not equip a false ceiling using incandescent lamps. There is a possibility that the lamp will be located close to the film web, as a result of which the latter will soon melt along the edges.

In most cases, in the presence of tension structures in the bedroom, many people prefer lighting with LEDs. Lamps of this kind do not heat up during operation, and therefore they do not pose a danger to the canvas. Basically, specialists install such lighting using various fasteners.

After installation, the LEDs themselves are hidden under the film, as a result of which they are not visible at all on the ceiling surface.

Lighting looks quite beautiful in the room when the light, being inside the ceiling, hits the colored glass. This decision has a beneficial effect on the eyes, simultaneously creating a fascinating and beautiful atmosphere in the interior of the room. Thus, you can perfectly decorate a room that is furnished in modern style.

Tip of the day! If you have an uneven ceiling in the bedroom, then the best solution to organize lighting without a chandelier is to use spotlights on the surface of the stretch fabric.

Ceiling cornices with hidden lighting have a similar scheme.

This method is perfect for a small bedroom that has a low ceiling. However, such lighting will not be enough, and therefore it will be necessary to additionally place a floor lamp or table lamp in the room.

Light above the bed

It's no secret that the bed is always the main and main detail in any bedroom. And here the light above the bed plays a huge role. In most cases, when the light is organized in a room without the use of a chandelier, it is placed lightly to the side or directly above the bed, thus creating a kind of halo of incident light around the sleeping area.

In this case, lighting fixtures can be selected into the room even with intricate shapes, which will diversify the overall interior design.

The sleeping area can be successfully supplemented with a plasterboard niche, which will be no larger than a bed or bedside table in width. It is usually placed LED strip. This solution makes it possible not only to beautifully decorate the room by creating hidden lighting in it, but also to make the room more practical and functional.

A little advice! If asymmetry is used in the interior of the room, in other words, when, for example, a bedside table is placed on one side of the bed, and a dressing table or dressing table on the opposite side, then an additional table lamp can be placed on it, suitable for the bedroom design. This decision will allow you to better consider yourself, being in front of the mirror. In addition, a similar element in the room can help create a certain accent in the interior.

If you use a classic style when decorating a bedroom, then you can even install several in the room without hesitation. This solution is convenient if you plan to equip work lighting or are a fan of reading in bed.

You can also decorate the bedroom with one single and large sconce, which will also be located above the bed. Such a lamp will be practical, it will also help create a more romantic atmosphere in the interior in the evening through light shadows on the surface of the walls.

Lamps next to the bed

In this case, floor lamps will perfectly help to create light lighting near the bed, which is best placed near the bedside table.

As a more traditional option, you can use table lamps, which are perfect for placing on a bedside table. Such light is considered more convenient for people living together. At the same time, everyone will have their own light source, which, if desired, can be turned on without disturbing the sleeping person. In addition, this solution allows you to maintain the overall style of the bedroom with a symmetrical interior. Most successfully, this type of lighting is suitable for rooms decorated in a classic style.

However, if you are not a fan of the classical direction, then you can always choose lamps that will be mounted directly into the bed. Such models will be mounted at the head of the bed, while turning in the right direction. Such a solution is perfect for minimalism or high-tech.

Important Points

In most cases, organizing lighting in the bedroom, many people refuse the chandelier if the room is small in size, and the ceiling in it is low. At the same time, the most acceptable solution is the use of spotlights or lamps that will be attached to the surface of the walls.

As a rule, some difficulties arise in people who plan lighting based on the decorative elements in the room. For example, if you want to decorate the interior of a room in a Scandinavian style, then you need to choose lighting based on other elements, whether it be colors or the ability to use it with the chosen style.

Due to the fact that the Scandinavian style is characterized by an abundance of cold shades, the light in the room should also be equipped with cold, and not, as many are accustomed to, habitually yellow. Otherwise, harmony will be lost.

Lighting mounted directly into the floor surface looks no less successful, which allows you to pleasantly surprise not only potential visitors to the house, but also the owners themselves, since the shadows from the light falling on the wall surfaces will seem incredibly beautiful. Rays of light can be directed directly at indoor plants, resulting in patterns that appear calmer. Such lighting can be called simply a miracle - it will constantly surprise you, you can’t get used to it.

And if you yourself can’t decide exactly on the type of lamps for the bedroom, in order to beautifully decorate the light without a chandelier, then you should use the services of special design companies or enterprises specializing in the sale of such devices.

In addition, do not forget about the dimensions of the room and your own preferences.

An important role is also given to the style in the interior, however, as practice shows, it is secondary, since, sconces or other lighting is always possible for any bedroom design.

In the end, I would like to note that when choosing lamps for the bedroom, you should pay attention not only to one beauty, but also to the functional side of the devices, since it is better to use more lamps in the room than to spoil your own vision under dim light.
