Create your little family in a children's house, fly as high as possible on a swing, slide down a hill with delight and, of course, build sand castles and sandpits under the bright "fungus" of the sandbox. Here we will talk about building a nursery with our own hands.
It would seem, what is so difficult? He brought sand, fenced it with boards around the perimeter, leveled it - the sandbox is ready! But not everything is so simple. It is necessary to take into account many important nuances. What? Let's try to figure it out.
Sandbox placement
Never hide the sandbox behind tall bushes or outbuildings. Children should always be in your sight, so position it so that you can see your little ones playing in the sand. Try to choose a place so that half of the sandbox is in the sun and half in the shade.
To do this, you can equip it not far from a sprawling tree, however, then you will have to regularly clear the area from foliage and twigs. If there are no suitable places with a shadow, you can install a “fungus” umbrella in the sandbox.
Preparing the base of the sandbox
The size and shape of the sandbox can be arbitrary, but standard structures for children of 2-5 years of age usually make 1.7 × 1.7 m. This is the size of the sandbox we will build.Operating procedure:
- Arm yourself with pegs, marking tape, cord.
- Fence off the area around the perimeter.
- Then remove a 30 cm layer of earth, and make a hole in the center of the sandbox 60-70 cm deep and 40-50 cm in diameter.
- Fill it with rubble or pebbles, tamp it down a little - you get a kind of drainage well.
- Make a slight slope from the sides of the sandbox to the center. Now, after heavy rains, your sandbox will not turn into a swamp and will dry quickly.
- As a result, we got a rectangular hole measuring 170 × 170 × 30 cm with a slope towards the center.
Sandbox base
The basis for the sandbox can be a dense plastic film, paving and even a regular sheet with pre-made holes (for).
It is possible not to make a base, but then over time the sand will mix with the ground, and it will become uncomfortable for your kids to play. In addition, the base will block the way into the holy of holies of children's play and insects, which (oddly enough) also love sand. One caveat: the base should be laid on a pre-sprinkled sandy “cushion” 5-6 cm high.
Sandbox sides
Prepare 4 bars measuring 95 × 5x5 cm, 4 boards measuring 150 × 30 × 2.5 cm and 4 boards for seat sides (they are laid on top, around the perimeter of the sandbox), sand them well. To do this, you can use the usual grinding nozzle on an electric drill or grinder. Then treat the boards and timber with drying oil 2-3 times (instead of drying oil, you can use any agent that protects the tree from decay).
Dig in the bars at the corners of the sandbox, deepening them by 15-20 cm, then nail the boards to them. If you do not have wide boards, you can make shields from narrow ones, for example, take 3 boards 10 cm wide for each wall of the sandbox. Then, along the perimeter of the sandbox, strengthen the horizontal seat pads, on which it is convenient to sculpt Easter cakes, where children can sit down to rest.
A lid for a sandbox is an optional, but very desirable attribute of a building so beloved by children. It will protect the sand from debris (dry foliage, twigs from nearby bushes and trees, and so on). And most importantly, it will not allow snow leopards and balls to use the sandbox as a toilet tray.
As a cover, you can use an awning, which will have to be constantly pulled over the sandbox. And you can make a cover from the boards, which is much more convenient with frequent use.
The oar cover for a sandbox made of two boards is very convenient. Shields are fastened with articulated loops, supplied with handles. When unfolded, they turn into comfortable benches with backs.
