Cucumber mite in the greenhouse fighting it. Tick on cucumbers in a greenhouse - how to fight. Features of the fight in different conditions

On hot and dry days in spring and summer, many summer residents have to face a serious enemy. Despite their tiny size, spider mites on cucumbers can cause massive and sometimes irreparable damage. Insects resembling spiders cope with the task of completely destroying adult plants in just 1-2 weeks. Weak seedlings in the greenhouse die as a result of their invasion even faster. It is not easy to resist this scourge, and the main thing here is not to lose precious time. Measures to save cucumbers must be taken immediately after.

Features of the insect and signs of infection

Helps the spider mite to populate the plant with its invisibility. It is almost impossible to see single insects on cucumbers, the body length of which barely reaches 1 mm. Their colony grows rapidly - in a month of life, the female manages to lay from 100 to 200 eggs. The most favorable period for the spider mite occurs in dry weather, when the air warms up to 20 ° C and above.

In anticipation of cold weather, insects climb under fallen leaves, into the top layer of earth or manure, into the corners of greenhouses, where they safely wait out the winter. They are propagated by the wind. With its gusts, ticks cover considerable distances both horizontally and vertically. Those summer residents who grow seedlings of cucumbers on window sills or balconies located at a height of the 14-16th floor are not immune from their appearance.

Insects settle on the underside of the leaf, tightening it with a thin cobweb. In the future, it and the pests themselves - points of red, orange, yellow-green, milky color quickly moving along thin threads - can also be seen on its upper part. They feed on cell sap. In an infected plant, the leaves are covered with silvery or yellowish speckles. They quickly merge, turning into light spots. Cucumber growth slows down, its leaves wither and begin to die. First they turn yellow and then dry out.

After destroying the lower leaves, spider mites accumulate at the top of the plant. Cucumbers weakened by them become vulnerable to other pests and. They are often affected by gray rot.

How to secure landings?

Preventive measures do not guarantee complete protection of cucumbers from spider mites, but they significantly reduce the risk of insects. An ideal place for wintering pests is heaps of rotten foliage. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully monitor the cleanliness of the garden or greenhouse. When the last crop is harvested, the plants are removed from the beds and destroyed.

The fight against spider mites involves the creation of unfavorable conditions for its development and reproduction. Professionals give some advice.

  • Observe the rules of crop rotation, annually planting cucumbers in different areas. In the place where they grew last season, it is better to arrange beds with tomatoes or cabbage.
  • Adhere to the recommended plant layout. The dense plantings facilitate the spread of pests and make it difficult to control them.
  • Dig up the bed before sowing or planting seedlings of cucumbers.
  • Timely get rid of weeds, which are the main food for overwintered insects at the initial stages of their development.
  • Carefully inspect the plants at least once every 2-3 days. The sooner a spider mite is found on cucumbers, the less the crop will suffer. It is easier to get rid of a few pests: the leaves affected by them are cut off and burned.

The owners of greenhouses are not immune from the appearance of insects. Moreover, in closed ground conditions, pests multiply faster, which is facilitated by heat (temperature from 30 ° C) and low (less than 60%) air humidity.

To protect the plants in the greenhouse, take additional measures:

  • achieve 85-90% humidity;
  • 2 times a year (in spring and autumn), a hermetically sealed structure is disinfected by fumigating it;
  • after harvesting, remove the top layer of soil;
  • disinfect the trellis (it is best to burn it with a gas burner);
  • increase the immunity of cucumbers by feeding them with phosphorus-rich compounds.

How to scare away a pest?

To combat insects in the greenhouse and in the beds, special chemical compounds or folk remedies are used. The former allow you to destroy pests, the latter only scare them away, but their advantages are safety and environmental friendliness.

You can process cucumbers from spider mites by the following means:

  • soap solution;
  • alcohol (96%, but not technical);
  • herbal infusions.

They will not cope with an extensive defeat, but if the insect colony has not yet grown, it is advisable to start with their use.

Planting alcohol is sprayed at least three times. A week should elapse between the first and second treatments. In cool weather, you can wait longer - 10 days. The third spraying is started after 8-10 days. The next step is to carefully observe the cucumbers. When insects reappear, the plants are treated again.

Spider mites on cucumbers will not become a problem if plantings are sprayed with infusions of herbs that are poisonous to it. But we must remember that exceeding the recommended dosage is dangerous for plants.

Effective against pests means prepared on the basis of the following components.

  • Marigolds. Half filling the bucket with dried flowers, they are poured with warm water and allowed to infuse for 48 hours. The resulting composition is filtered and laundry soap (40 g) is dissolved in it. Spraying cucumbers is carried out in the evening and in dry weather.
  • Potato tops. 1.2 kg of freshly cut plants are placed in a bucket of warm water. After 4 hours, the infusion is filtered and plantings are treated with it. It should completely cover the cucumbers affected by the spider mite. This infusion is also useful for combating caterpillars and aphids.
  • Stems of tomatoes. Bay 4 kg of fresh tops 10 liters of water, put the container on the stove and boil the mixture for half an hour. After cooling and filtering the composition, a small piece (40 g) of laundry soap is added to it. The resulting solution is diluted with clean water 2 times, after which it can be used for spraying.
  • Nosed aconite. Salvation from spider mites - alcohol infusion of any parts of the plant (roots, tubers, leaves) collected during budding. After dissolving 100 ml of the product in 1 liter of water, the affected cucumbers are treated with it. For infusion take 70% alcohol.
  • Dandelion roots. Having poured 30 g of crushed dry raw materials into a container, pour 1 liter of warm water into it. It will be possible to use the infusion after 2-3 hours.
  • Hogweed. The roots of the plant are harvested before or after flowering. After drying them and pouring water (at the rate of 1 kg of raw materials per 10 liters of liquid), the mixture is left for a day. Leaves and stems of hogweed are harvested regardless of flowering. They are crushed and, adding water (2 liters per 1 kg of green raw materials), ground into a pulp. After squeezing it through gauze, the mass is poured with water (15 l) and infused for 6 to 12 hours. After straining the mixture, the liquid obtained from the cow parsnip earlier is added to it.
  • Garlic. After cleaning and grinding 2 medium heads, 1 liter of water is poured into the container with the resulting mass. Garlic infusion is being prepared for 5 days. Before use, it is well mixed, filtered and its concentration is halved by adding pure water.
  • Datura ordinary. To prepare the infusion, dried plants are crushed and 100 g of raw materials are poured into 1 liter of water. 12 hours later, the solution is filtered, after which it is ready for use. You can also treat cucumbers from spider mites with a decoction of the leaves of the plant. Bay of 1 kg of dry mass with a small volume of water, the mixture is brought to a boil and kept on low heat for 2-3 hours. The cooled product must be filtered. Before use, water is added to it, bringing the volume of the insect repellent composition to 10 liters.
  • Onion. His husk insist on water. The minimum period is 12-15 hours, but it is better to wait 5 days. For 1 liter of liquid take 20 g of raw materials.

Moss or bark repel spider mites. After dousing the plant material with boiling water for disinfection, it is well dried. The bark can be heated in the microwave or oven. After that, it or moss is buried in the ground under cucumbers. You can put a container filled with turpentine under the plants. Insects do not like his couples.

biological methods

In the fight against spider mites, all means are good. Guarantees success in it is the use of its natural enemies. The worst of them is the Phytoseiulus mite. If you populate this predator in a greenhouse (it is enough to put a few leaves colonized by it near the source of infection), it will destroy pests in just 2 days. Phytoseiulus is equally dangerous for adult insects and their eggs. To achieve a sustainable result, new individuals are placed in a greenhouse with an interval of 3 weeks.

A special fungus, Entomophthora Adjarian, will also help get rid of insects. Ladybugs love to eat spider mites. To lure them to the site, spicy herbs are planted next to the cucumber beds. These beetles love the smell of flowering dill.

Having noticed a spider mite on cucumbers, it is necessary to act comprehensively.

  • Leaves infested with insects are removed from plants.
  • Stop watering (for 2-3 days).
  • Apply phosphate fertilizers.
  • Sprinkle necrotic areas with ash.

In case of mass infection, drastic measures will have to be taken. Cucumbers severely affected by pests are destroyed (digged up and burned). Healthy plants and those that can still be saved are sprayed with special compounds.

Chemical protection

Numerous insects are fought with acaricides and insectoacaricides. Despite the fact that they destroy both adult pests and their eggs, the main disadvantage of these drugs is their toxicity to humans. In addition, insects quickly develop immunity to them, so it is recommended to change the compositions for spraying cucumbers after 2-3 uses.

No matter how strong the drug is, it will take several treatments to forget about the spider mite. If the pest population is not completely destroyed, new insects will soon hatch from the eggs. They will be even more dangerous, since the usual formulations will no longer be able to protect plants from them. The interval between spraying depends on weather conditions. The hotter it is outside, the more often cucumbers are processed. In summer, the procedure is usually repeated once every 7 days - this is how much time the female needs to mature and lay eggs.

The following insecticides have confirmed their effectiveness in the fight against spider mites.

  • "Akarin". Works within 4-8 hours after spraying. Harvest from treated plants can be harvested only after 3 days;
  • "Plant-pin". Ideal solution for greenhouses. The release form (sticks) simplifies its use. It is advisable to use the drug in the early stages of infection. It begins to act on insects in 2-3 days. Provides long-term (up to 1.5 months) protection;
  • "Etisso". Solves 2 problems at once: nourishes the plant and protects it from pests. Acts from within - through the root system;
  • Apollo. Destroys insects and prevents their reproduction by sterilizing them. Best results can be achieved by using it together with other acaricides;
  • Fitoverm. Due to its biological origin, the drug kills many pests, but is almost safe for humans. Another advantage is its long-term effect. If the weather is warm and dry, re-treatment is carried out in a week. Cool and rainy days reduce the effectiveness of the drug.

The treatment of cucumbers with Aktofit, Karbofos, Vertimek, Bitoxibacillin, Flumite, Iskra-BIO, BI-58, colloidal sulfur is effective. But not all of them are dangerous for spider mite eggs. Summer residents are wary of Actellik because of its high toxicity. When working with it, it is necessary to strictly observe safety rules: wear a protective mask, raincoat, rubber gloves.

The best time for spraying is evening. The sun's rays evaporate the chemicals before they affect the insects.

Fighting spider mites is exhausting and not always productive. In the early stages of pest infestation, it is difficult to detect, and when it becomes widespread, it may be too late to take action. Nature took care of the spider mite, endowing it with the ability to actively multiply and adapt to the effects of chemicals. Braiding the plant with a web, insects quickly move along it, hiding from moisture and solutions that are poisonous to them.

How to deal with a pest on cucumbers - by chemical, biological or folk methods - is up to the summer resident. Each of the described methods has advantages and disadvantages. Some of them are effective only in the initial stages of the development of a spider mite, others are also applicable for extensive lesions. When choosing a pesticide, it is necessary to take into account the conditions in which cucumbers grow. Some methods will help in the greenhouse, others will provide a guaranteed result in the open field.

In hot, dry weather, one must be extremely attentive to planting cucumbers. In the heat, not only the number of ovaries is reduced, the leaves on the stems droop, but such a malicious pest as a spider mite settles. Due to its microscopic size, it is not immediately noticeable, so the inspection of plants should be carried out carefully, looking under the leaves.

A tick is a very small insect, up to 1 mm in size. The color may be greenish, yellowish or dark brown. From a distance it looks like a small dot. While there are few ticks, they may not be noticed.

It settles on the underside of the leaf plate, lives in colonies. It feeds on the juice of plants, piercing holes in the leaves. In the process of life, it secretes a lot of thin cobwebs, which can be seen on petioles, stems and ovaries. Due to the numerous damage, the process of photosynthesis is disrupted in the leaves, it begins to turn yellow and dry out.

Females have time to lay eggs several times in a short period of life, therefore, under favorable conditions, colonies grow rapidly.

Favorable conditions for ticks are dry air and heat. If the temperature stays above 25°C and there is no rain, the pests become active.

Eggs are stored in the soil, on dried plants, on leaf litter.

Plants are damaged by adult insects, their larvae and nymphs. In addition, the spider mite is a carrier of viral infections and spores of fungal diseases.

If the cucumber beds affected by pests are left unattended, you can lose the entire crop.

How to process cucumbers from spider mites

For the destruction of spider mites on cucumbers, directional pesticides are suitable - acaricides, or universal - insectoacaricides.

"Agravertin" - the tick dies 3-6 days after treatment, but it stops harming the plant earlier. After 10 hours, he stops eating the juice from the leaves.

"Apollo" - kills eggs, larvae and nymphs of ticks. Adult females become spayed and no longer produce offspring. It is enough to process cucumbers 1 time.

"Borneo" - adult insects become sterile, eggs and larvae die on the 3rd day after treatment. Can only be used once per season.

"Envidor" - destroys the tick at any stage of its development. Males survive, which do not harm plants, but are food for predatory insects. The drug is resistant to rain, adheres well to the plant.

"Kleshchevit" - 7 hours after treatment, the mites cease to harm the plant, and after 3 days they die completely.

"Sunmite" - destroys ticks at any stage of development, begins to act on them 15 minutes after spraying. Duration of action up to 40 days. Can only be used once per season.

"Fitoverm" - the nutrition of ticks stops after 15 hours, complete death occurs in a week. If precipitation or dew falls within a week after treatment, the treatment must be repeated. The best result when spraying at a temperature of +25°. The advantage is that cucumbers can be eaten within 3 days after processing.

"Flumite" - acts on ticks at any stage of development. Protection lasts up to 6 weeks. Summer laying of eggs is destroyed by the drug, penetrating through the leaves, winter laying - only with contact interaction. Not dangerous for bees and predatory insects.

When treating cucumber plantings with the above preparations, all parts of the plants should be thoroughly moistened. These funds have a contact effect on ticks.

Folk remedies for combating spider mites on cucumbers

With a strong infection, folk remedies are ineffective, so they should be used as soon as this pest is detected.

Before processing, infected leaves are cut off, collected in a bucket and burned away from cucumber plantings. The remaining web must be collected with a soapy sponge. Only after that, folk remedies are used.

Most effective:

  • Infusion of garlic. 50 grams of garlic are crushed through a press, pour 0.5 liters of water and leave for a day. The resulting solution is filtered, half is poured into a bucket of water. Processing is carried out in the evening calm time.
  • Hot peppers are cut into small pieces, poured with water and boiled over low heat for about an hour. 50 grams of pepper will require 0.5 liters of water. When cool, dilute 1/3 of the mixture in one bucket of water.
  • 3% hydrogen peroxide is diluted in water at the rate of 3 tablespoons per 3 liters of water. Spraying is carried out at intervals of 3-7 days. The higher the air temperature, the more often the treatment is carried out.
  • Tobacco dust - in dry form, it is sprayed onto plants moistened with water.

Any liquid soap is added to each of these solutions to ensure adherence to the plant. If it rains for 5 hours after spraying, the treatment must be repeated. Folk remedies should be used regularly, after 7-10 days. There will be no result from a one-time struggle.

Since the tick does not like moisture, you can fight it with cold water. This should be done early in the morning, while the plant has not yet warmed up in the sun. Cold water from the well should be sprayed on the affected foliage and all parts of the cucumbers where the pest is found. It is best if a fine diffuser is installed on the sprayer. Bring it to the leaves as close as possible so that the mist does not have time to heat up.

If cold water gets on the ovaries, they can crumble. In the fight against spider mites, this loss is not terrible. It is better to lose a few fruits than to completely lose the harvest.

How to deal with a tick on cucumbers in a greenhouse

In the greenhouse, cucumbers are damaged by spider mites more often than in the open. This is facilitated by the fact that the temperature in the greenhouse rises quite high, but the humidity does not. It is these conditions that the tick loves.

To avoid this, it is necessary to increase the humidity of the air. You can put open containers of water between plantings. The larger the evaporation area, the faster the air humidity will increase, so it is best to use basins and troughs.

It is recommended to carry out foliar top dressing of cucumbers with superphosphate in the greenhouse. This will scare off pests, and at the same time strengthen the plants. 40 grams of fertilizer (2 tablespoons with a small slide) are diluted in a bucket of water and the leaves are moistened early in the morning or in the evening.

With severe damage to cucumber plantings, the fight is carried out in the same way as on open ground.

Prevention

In measures to combat spider mites, prevention takes first place.

Crop rotation is important in the garden. It is undesirable to grow cucumbers two years in a row in one place. It is best to alternate them with tomatoes or spicy herbs. If possible, you can leave the bed under black fallow for one season, periodically weeding and loosening the soil.

No dried leaves, roots in the garden can not be left. After the harvest, everything is collected and burned. Before digging, the soil should be treated with acaricides that destroy egg clutches (Apollo, Borneo, Flumite). After 3-4 days after processing, the soil is dug up and left for the winter.

When planting cucumbers, do not thicken them. If dry hot weather sets in, then the frequency of watering should be increased. It will benefit cucumbers, but it will be fatal for ticks.

Constantly inspect the beds. As soon as you notice the pest, start processing. During this period, the tick can be dealt with folk remedies.

Spider mite on cucumbers - how to deal with a pest with chemistry and folk remedies

If a spider mite appeared on cucumbers, not all gardeners know how to deal with it, and in order to get rid of it, you should know how to poison the insect, what folk remedies and methods of control are most effective, whether sulfur-tar soap will help, how to treat the greenhouse and much more…

A small and almost invisible spider mite without a magnifying glass, the signs of damage to which are determined by the appearance of a dotted pattern on the leaves of cucumbers, is considered the most dangerous pest. If a spider mite appeared on cucumbers, many summer residents think how to deal with it, but only a few know that it can be weakened with a few simple steps, while resorting to strong chemicals may not be necessary.

Before looking for the best remedy for a spider mite, unbearable conditions should be created for it - this insect lives in dry, almost desert conditions with an air humidity of no more than 60%, and cucumbers like a high water content in the air - 85% or more. To weaken the pest population, increase the frequency of watering and generously spray the cucumbers on the leaves - you should not do this in the sun, as this can kill the plants due to numerous burns.

Another way to defeat the spider mite on cucumbers is to mechanically remove it along with damaged leaves. Unfortunately, this method does not always work - if single leaves are affected, it will work 100%, but if mites have occupied more than 40% of leaf plates in cucumber plantings, removing damaged leaves will not help. Moreover, there is a risk of weakening the plants - the lashes will survive, but it will be difficult to wait for juicy greens.

A more reliable way to deal with spider mites compared to the previous ones is to populate the beds with its natural enemy, phytoseiulus or other predatory insects with similar preferences. These are far from folk remedies for spider mites, but a real biological weapon - after populating beds or greenhouses with predatory insects, you should not use other methods of pest control, as this can kill beneficial insects.

  • - a solution for spraying cucumbers is prepared from it, insects die in a day, the efficiency reaches 100%;
  • - a powerful acaricidal agent in ampoules for preparing a solution, acts quickly, the effect is the same as that of the previous agent;
  • Plant-Pin - sticks that are stuck into the soil near the bushes, their active substances are absorbed by the root system of cucumbers, making the plants poisonous to ticks;
  • Etisso is another soil form of pest poison in the form of sticks;
  • - biological insecticide, means for spraying and watering plants.

It is important to understand that chemical insecticides, when used, can cause poisoning in humans, therefore, when working with them, it is recommended to protect the respiratory tract with cloth bandages or respirators, cover your eyes with goggles, and cover your body with tight clothing.

If a spider mite appears on cucumbers, how to deal with it with chemistry without risks and losses, the following rules will suggest:

  1. Solutions of drugs are prepared immediately before use, they are not subject to storage;
  2. After 2-3 treatments, any drug must be changed to a drug with another active ingredient;
  3. You need to spray plants, supports, the soil under the bushes, and when used in a greenhouse and a building structure, ticks can hide in them and survive;
  4. To enhance the effect, you can combine several insecticides (such mixtures are called tank).

When a spider mite appears, it will have to be fought all season with an interval between treatments of 2 weeks, but the timing may vary depending on the name of the drug. Before use, you need to carefully study the instructions.

Folk remedies for spider mites - time-tested recipes

Folk remedies serve as an additional means of influencing the pest - with a small degree of damage to cucumbers, they cope with spider mites no worse than chemicals. They are also suitable as intermediate means of treatment - spraying with chemicals alternates with spraying with folk remedies to prevent the mite from adapting to insecticides.

When alternating folk and chemical remedies, you can somewhat reduce the frequency of treatments by the latter - this will surely be appreciated by adherents of organic farming who have encountered a spider mite on cucumbers and have already despaired of defeating it.

The squeeze is added to the infusion, a little liquid soap is also poured there. Cucumbers are processed in the morning or in the evening, spending 5 liters of solution per 10 m².

Sulfur-tar soap from spider mites also provides good help. A solution with it helps to scare away most of the pests, and if you combine it with herbal infusions, the effect will be more pronounced. Soap solution can also be used to prevent the appearance of pests on cucumbers.

What are the reasons for the appearance of spider mites on cucumbers? The pest appears and actively reproduces only in favorable conditions for it - high temperature and dry air. Ticks hibernate in fallen leaves, topsoil, manure and greenhouses (especially in the corners).

The most unpleasant thing is to protect the crop from the appearance of a pest impossible- it can get on seedlings even with a gust of wind.

The only way out- Carrying out conventional agrotechnical measures in order to prevent the appearance of spider mites.

Spider mite on cucumbers: how to fight?

Location on

How to get rid of spider mites on cucumbers in a summer cottage or garden?

Take pest control measures immediately after harvest: All plant parts must be removed and destroyed.

Fighting spider mites on cucumbers also includes:

  1. Before sowing, the land must be dig up, because most of the pests hibernate in the upper soil layer.
  2. Spider mite hibernating outdoors develops first on weeds so they need to be removed systematically.
  3. During cultivation it is necessary scrutinize plants and, if affected leaves are found, they must be removed and buried or burned.
  4. Planting cucumbers should alternate with cabbage or tomatoes.
  5. If a spider mite is found, the lesion must be treated biological preparations.

Means for processing cucumbers

How to process cucumbers for spider mites? Which one to use on cucumbers?

The main method of pest control on the site is spraying with insecticides, but in the case of a spider mite, this method will bring little benefit.

The destruction of the spider mite is guaranteed by means such as insecticides and acaricides, but today there are no systems safe for humans that allow the use of these drugs on the site. Most use enteric-contact drugs, which give fairly good results.

Processing cucumbers with intestinal-contact agents should be carried out more than once. The higher ambient temperature- the shorter the interval must be maintained between treatments.

Of the preparations against spider mites on cucumbers, it is worth highlighting Phytoferm.

Spraying should be done in the evening when there is no sun, so that the chemicals do not have time to evaporate and destroy the spider mite.

The safest pest control is phytosailus mite.

The predator is placed next to the affected foci to destroy the eggs of the spider mite, but for the best result, you need to populate the mite every 3 weeks.

Folk remedies

The most popular with spider mites include:

  1. Spraying plants soapy water.
  2. Landing flowering plants.
  3. Settlement of the site Entomophora adjarian mushroom.

Planted dill next to cucumbers will help in pest control. Its flowering attracts ladybugs, which will eliminate the development of aphids and spider mites.

Diseases of cucumbers caused by spider mites

For humans, this pest does not represent no danger, but for cucumbers, a spider mite is special enemy. It not only sucks all the juices from the leaf, disrupting photosynthesis, but also makes the plant vulnerable to a number of infections.

The infected culture gradually begins to dry out, which eventually leads it to death. Spider mites can cause gray mold spore, which affects the entire ground part of the plant. Not only shoots, leaves and flower stalks are under threat, but also fruits.

Spider mite on cucumbers - signs of infection, folk methods of struggle, treatment and prevention!

Good afternoon, dear readers.

In this article, you will learn about the signs of a spider mite infestation. What conditions favor infection? How to treat the disease with the help of folk, proven methods. How to treat the affected bushes in the greenhouse and open ground.

What are the methods of disease prevention. And what varieties are best planted. What rules must be followed to get a good harvest. Great practical article!

Last time I told you why the ovaries on cucumbers turn yellow. Not every summer resident knows what a spider mite on cucumbers is, how to deal with this pest and prevent problems. This is a big problem for many gardeners, which they constantly struggle with.

Sometimes the fight against the spider mite drags on, and the greenhouse does not save from it either. This article will tell you how to prevent infection and get rid of the scourge.

How to recognize a spider mite on cucumbers?

Small insects that live on plants and in the soil adversely affect the future harvest, spoil the root system, leaves and shoots of bushes.

The described creatures feed on juice, affecting the green mass of cucumbers, and with the advent of cold weather, the pests move to the lower layers of the earth.

How does it get on plants?

As a rule, insects live and actively reproduce only in favorable conditions for them, involving dry air and high temperatures.

They winter in the soil, fallen leaves, manure and other secluded places near the garden, so it is difficult to protect the future crop.

  1. In the greenhouse, the spider mite is found by getting on the seedlings,
  2. and in the open ground, the pest is brought by gusts of wind or contaminated fertilizers.

Signs of infection.

The following signs indicate the attack of insects on plants:

  • light spots on the back of the sheet;
  • whitish web, slow growth of the bush;
  • yellowing of stems and leaves.

It is important to know that the pest causes cucumber diseases such as gray rot and photosynthesis disturbance, thereby the spider mite provokes depletion and death of plantings.

Measures to combat it should be taken immediately after harvesting - all parts of the affected plants must be collected and destroyed, otherwise next year you risk being completely left without vegetables.

The pest in the greenhouse and in the garden is a struggle.

It is more difficult to get rid of spider mites in a greenhouse, because all conditions are created here for insects to multiply and infect vegetable crops.

However, the pest does not survive at an air humidity level of more than 80%, so moistening the plantings will be a good preventive method.

So, you can get rid of the misfortune by taking the following control measures:

  1. disinfection of the greenhouse in autumn and spring;
  2. removal of the top layer of the earth;
  3. application of special fertilizers.

It is important to know that most of the ticks hibernate in the ground, and insects also hide near the weeds.

Crop rotation.

In the open field, the problem should be given special attention:

  1. By removing weeds and carefully inspecting the bushes for affected leaves.
  2. Experienced gardeners are also advised to alternate planting cucumbers with tomatoes or cabbage in the fresh air,

It is believed that the higher the air temperature, the shorter the interval between plant treatments should be.

The introduction of drugs.

Among the effective drugs from the pest, one can distinguish such as Iskra-Bio, Fitoferm, Karbofos.

You need to use these products in the evening, when the sunlight leaves and the chemicals do not have time to evaporate.

Land processing.

In the greenhouse and open ground, tillage is important, as pests hide and winter there.

Do not be lazy in the fall after harvest and in the spring:

  • carefully dig the ground
  • remove fallen leaves
  • weed residue,
  • and manure from its surface,

This simple pest control measure will help to significantly reduce the risk of infestation of the bushes.

The spider mite can feed on both cucumber seedlings and adult plants, so the land for planting must be cleaned and tested.

Application of fertilizers.

We must not forget about the introduction of useful fertilizers.

Phosphorus is necessary for cucumbers to build up green mass and form ovaries, such mineral dressing must be added to the soil, it will increase productivity and strengthen plant immunity.

Strong and hardy bushes will resist the attack of pests, which means that cucumbers will be able to bloom and bear fruit in time.

The fight against tick folk remedies.

It is no secret that hazardous chemicals threaten human health and should be used only in extreme cases.

peroxide solution.

You can get rid of spider mites at home by preparing safe and effective remedies.

Just 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide 3%, dissolved in 1 liter of water, will help to cope with the scourge.

It is useful to spray the plants with this solution 3 times every 5 days, and soon you will notice how the insects retreat and die.

Ammonia solution.

It has a similar effect:

1 teaspoon of ammonia, diluted in the same amount of water.

The resulting liquid inhibits the development and life cycle of the pest.

And in order to prevent further onset of the tick, experienced gardeners place jars of turpentine near the affected bushes.

With the help of herbs.

Interestingly, you can even fight spider mites with the help of plants.

Calendula, dandelion, sorrel, yarrow, onion and garlic are suitable for this purpose.

  1. Take chopped greens or dry raw materials.
  2. Pour boiling water over the product and insist for 1 day.
  3. Then spray the cucumbers with the resulting liquid, it is best to do this through drip irrigation.

And at the end of the work, it is useful to sprinkle the bushes with tobacco dust, such a tool will protect them from a secondary attack of insects and will not spoil the foliage.

Soap solution.

Another proven folk method of dealing with spider mites is a soapy solution.

  1. So, in 1 bucket of warm water, approximately 200 g of crushed laundry soap should be diluted.
  2. The resulting liquid must be insisted, stirred and applied to the processing of cucumbers.
  3. The treated plantings are left for several hours to get rid of insects, then the foam is washed off.

And they maintain a high level of humidity in the greenhouse, and in the open field it is recommended to cover the cucumbers with a plastic bag for 1 day.

This method is safe, and flower growers even use it to protect and treat indoor plants.

It is important to know that soap should not be allowed to get on the roots, as this can harm the vegetable crop.

Reinforced blend.

To increase the effectiveness of the tool, you can:

  1. Mix 50 g of laundry soap with 500 g of fresh garlic.
  2. Pour the products with 3 liters of water and insist the liquid in a dark place for at least 5 days.
  3. Be sure to strain the infusion and dilute with clean water,

In addition, suitable for spraying and simple garlic juice.

Cucumbers resistant to spider mites.

Today, breeders from all over the world are working to create new varieties of vegetables, including those resistant to pests. Therefore, when growing cucumbers, you need to choose strong, resistant varieties.

Of course, it is still impossible to completely protect yourself from spider mites, but it became possible to reduce the risk of insect attack and increase planting yields.

Hybrid "Spring"

The popular hybrid "Rodnichok" is getting better every year, it can compete with European varieties.

Fruits need enough moisture, however, this plant has good immunity against diseases and pests.

Variety "Goosebump F1"

The early ripe Goosebump F1 variety also deserved good reviews, it not only gives an excellent harvest in the greenhouse and open ground, but is also less often affected by spider mites.

The fruits have an improved taste, suitable for pickling and fresh consumption.

Hybrid "Benefit F1"

Prevention of damage to cucumbers by insects.

Effective pest control measures are difficult, as the spider mite breeds rapidly and even develops immunity to chemicals.

And in some cases it is difficult to identify it, a small insect settles on the underside of the leaf and is well camouflaged.

It is easier to prevent a tick attack than to deal with the consequences of their attack.

  1. Do not forget about the need to dig the soil in autumn and spring after the snow melts.
  2. It is also necessary to destroy the remains of plants, especially those affected. Experienced summer residents advise immediately burning dried bushes.

That's all. New articles on growing plants, and to help the gardener are yet to come. How do you treat this disease? Waiting for your comments.

How to deal with spider mites on cucumbers in a greenhouse with folk remedies

When planting any crop in the open field or in a greenhouse, the owner wants to get an excellent harvest and tries to take all measures so that neither the disease nor the pest harms the plant. But not everyone succeeds. The appearance of a spider mite on cucumbers is capable of destroying the entire crop.

A small, harmful, barely noticeable pest. If it is not destroyed in a timely manner, then not only the cucumber crop will die, but everything that grows on the site, in the greenhouse, in the greenhouse.

Spider mite: what kind of "beast" is this

You should immediately warn that it is necessary to get rid of such an annoying neighbor as soon as possible. This is an insatiable creature that quickly gets used to the various chemicals that gardeners use to fight off.

Spider mite on cucumbers how to deal with this pest? Often starts due to violations of the water or temperature regime. It is necessary to take urgent measures to combat this omnivorous pest, at its slightest manifestations. After all, they appear not only in the greenhouse on cucumbers, they harm all plants in the open field.

This pest feeds exclusively on plant sap. Losing a vital component, the plant dies. Spider mite control on cucumbers can be useless if started too late. Any remedies for spider mites on cucumbers become simply useless, the plant has died, but the mite itself can still be destroyed.

Tick on cucumbers in a greenhouse: what can destroy it

The spider mite, getting into a favorable environment for itself, chooses the most succulent crops. A prominent representative of these are cucumbers. There is enough juice in cucumbers not only in fruits, but also in leaves and stems. If you do not use some kind of remedy or preparation, the plant will surely die.

The complexity of the situation lies in the fact that the tick is practically not afraid of chemicals. These pests are incredibly resistant to pesticides. Moreover, they are able to adapt to any poisons.

The tick reproduces simply with lightning speed. Each individual is capable of laying about five hundred eggs every three days. 90 percent of each clutch survives. It is terrible to imagine what harm this small creature is doing.

But it’s not worth imagining, you need to get rid of the spider mite on cucumbers as soon as possible. The main thing is not to panic and not give up if an uninvited lodger appears in the greenhouse. It's not hard to get rid of it.

Important! The spider mite does not like tomatoes very much. Therefore, planting cucumbers can be alternated with tomatoes.

In the absence of fruit crops, mites adapt well to weeds. Therefore, it is necessary to control the cleanliness of the beds and regularly clean them of weeds. For a tick, high humidity can become fatal, which is a normal climate for any variety of cucumbers. If this happens in a greenhouse, then it is necessary to maintain humidity within 80-85 percent.

Every two or three days, inspect plants. The slightest signs of cobwebs on the leaves may indicate the presence of a tick. Do not forget about regular watering, loosening the soil, spraying.

The universal Bordeaux mixture has proven itself well, which helps to solve many problems both in greenhouses and in the open field. But for the destruction of the tick, you can choose a more individual remedy. This is:

  • colloidal sulfur;
  • fitoverm;
  • bitoxybacilin.

The preparations are diluted in water, after which the plant is sprayed. If the mite colonies are minimal, then the treatment can be carried out every ten days. If it is noticeable that it has spread over a large area, then it is advisable to treat the plants every five days.

The spider mite in nature has a worst enemy who will gladly deal with its destruction in the greenhouse. This is Phytoseiulus, which can be forcibly settled near the habitats of ticks. The diet of this insect consists exclusively of spider mites.

Without affecting the plant, it will quickly destroy the entire colony along with the eggs. To do this, it is enough to spread out a few leaves with such a hunter closer to the infected plant, and already on the second day only a web can remain from the spider mite, which is easy to remove.

If the proposed remedies do not help, then the stage of damage is too great and more drastic measures are required before the plant has died. These may be preparations containing acaricides. But their use will destroy the phytoseiulus population, and in open areas it is dangerous for bees. Therefore, spider mites must be dealt with as early as possible.

What are acaricides

The very name of such drugs makes it clear the whole essence of their use. The exact translation is:

  • Acari-mite:
  • Cide-cut.

Such drugs are used not only to save plants. They can be used to treat indoor plants, pets. But they are all toxic, so the use of any drug must comply with the instructions attached to it. Their range is quite extensive. You can imagine the most popular.

  1. Aktelik. The most common drug tested by almost all gardeners. Contains irimiphosmethyl, toxic. After spraying, mite colonies begin to die within five minutes. The person conducting the treatment must use personal protective equipment, a mask, gloves.
  2. Aktara. Contains thiamethoxam, which is effective in killing any insects.
  3. Phytoferm. This is a biological preparation containing aversectin. It quickly affects the tick, causing paralysis instantly, and the death of the pest occurs after a few hours. The drug is slightly toxic, not dangerous to humans and animals, but precautions must be observed when working with it.
  4. Fufanon. The main component in the composition is malathion, which, upon contact with ticks, paralyzes them and destroys them within a few hours. It has a low degree of toxicity, is not dangerous to humans and animals, but can destroy beneficial insects and bees.

This is only a small part of the powerful and fast-acting drugs that are used to destroy entire colonies of the poutine mite. Even if the packaging indicates that the drug is safe for humans, it must be handled with care. Some components may cause an allergic reaction.

Work in rubber gloves and masks, which must be destroyed after use. Protection in the greenhouse, as well as on the open ground, must be carried out on time, then you will not have to resort to such drastic measures that pose a danger to others.

Mankind has long been engaged in the cultivation of various crops. Therefore, there are folk remedies that have been tested for more than a century. These are means that do not pose a danger to humans and are able to protect the future greenhouse or garden cucumber crop.

It is understandable that most gardeners do not want to use heavy artillery to kill the tick. This poses a danger to humans and pets. Such drastic measures are dangerous for bees, without which it is impossible to do in the country.

The most important thing in this dacha war is the timely detection of the pest. Then you can count on folk remedies for spider mites on cucumbers.

Such difficulties can arise for various reasons. A long absence of a person, or is it a greenhouse with seedlings, where you can not often look. In this case, it is best to foresee a possible problem in advance. Armed means protected, resistant to any pest.

Spider mite on cucumbers, how to deal with improvised means

To do this, use a variety of tools that are available in every home. It can be:

  • soap;
  • alcohol;
  • garlic;
  • herbs and infusions from them;
  • rosemary extract.

An aqueous solution of laundry soap is used not only for cucumbers. Such a liquid can increase resistance in roses, indoor plants, and many vegetable crops. It is absolutely safe for humans. The same can be said about other folk remedies that are no less effective.

Home » Horticulture and floriculture » Plant diseases » How to deal with spider mites on cucumbers

Putin mite is a malicious pest of agricultural crops. With sizes less than 1 mm, it can cause serious damage to the economy.

At first, ticks form small clusters, but over time they multiply and occupy the entire greenhouse, greenhouse or garden bed. Reproducing, they form a web in which young mites develop.

An ideal place for the development of ticks are greenhouses and hotbeds, as temperatures from 20 to 30 degrees and moderate humidity contribute to the reproduction of these arachnids.

Ticks often start up on cucumbers grown in the open field. Ticks reproduce very quickly: the female lays 400 eggs up to 20 times a year.

Signs of ticks

  • Dots on the bottom of the leaves and their yellowing;
  • Slow plant growth;
  • Discolored areas of leaves;
  • With a large number of mites, they become visible on plants with the naked eye.

Damage caused by spider mites

Ticks feed on plant sap, which contributes to the drying of leaves, the development of various plant diseases and their death. It also significantly reduces the yield.

This method is very effective, but when using it, part of the crop is lost.

Aloe Infusion
  • Components: 2 kg of aloe.
  • Preparation: ground in a meat grinder. Diluted in a bucket of water with 50 g of laundry soap.
Infusion of tops of tomatoes
  • Components: about 1 kg of dry haulm and more than 1 kg of fresh.
  • Preparation: soak in a bucket of hot water for 3-5 hours. After that, 40-50 g of soap is added.
Infusion of horse sorrel
  • Ingredients: 300 g horse sorrel.
  • Preparation: infused for 2-4 hours in a bucket of water.
Decoction of hot pepper
  • Ingredients: 100 g hot pepper.
  • Preparation: boil in a liter of water for 2 hours. 150 ml of decoction is diluted in a bucket of water with the addition of 40 g of soap.
Onion infusion
  • Components: 15 g of onions;
  • Preparation: 1 liter of water is poured and infused for half a day.
Dandelion infusion
  • Ingredients: 25 g of dandelion.
  • Preparation: insist in 1 liter of warm water for a couple of hours.
Infusion of garlic
  • Ingredients: 150 g of garlic.
  • Preparation: insist a week in 1 liter of water. Before use, dilute 6 ml of solution per 1 liter of water.
Infusion of wormwood
  • Components: 200 g of wormwood.
  • Preparation: 1 liter of water, leave for half a day.

Spraying is done every week for a month. Then there is a break of 18-20 days. Then the procedures are repeated.

  • fitoverm, 10 ml of which is diluted in 10 liters of water. This drug effectively destroys ticks. The downside is that it is addictive, so it cannot be reused;
  • spark-bio, akarin, spraying with these drugs is also quite effective. The advantages of these products, including fitoverm, are their safety, plants can be eaten after two days from the time of treatment;
  • colloidal sulfur, 80 g per 10 l;
  • bitoxibacillin and bicol, 100 g per 10 liters. Plants are sprayed during the growing season with a break of 10-14 days;
  • Actellik is available in the form of ampoules, the contents of which are diluted in 1 liter of water. The solution is poured into a spray bottle, with which the plants are sprayed;
  • plant pin and etisso are sticks that are inserted into the soil next to cucumbers. The substance acts during irrigation, in which it dissolves, enters the soil and is absorbed by plants. These drugs help to effectively deal with ticks in the early stages of settling. Protects such a stick for 1.5 months;

Spraying is done 3 times during the growing season in 8-9 days. And at temperatures above 30 degrees, every 3-5 days.

Processing is carried out in the morning or in the evening, when it is cool, so that the poisonous preparations do not evaporate.

When using any chemical agent, you must strictly follow the instructions and remember that improper use is dangerous to human health and affects the quality of the crop.

The last treatment should be no later than 2-3 weeks before harvest. This time is enough for the toxic substances to completely stand out from the cucumbers. Otherwise, you can get poisoned by the crop.

Therefore, it is worth resorting to chemical processing methods, as a last resort, when other methods do not help.

On average, 7-8 individuals per 1 m2 are released into the pest outbreaks. In foci, with a high density of up to 30-50 individuals per 1 m2. 3-4 weeks after planting, 10-15 individuals per 1 m2 are released. And then, as the leaf surface grows, 3-4 times in 12-15 days, each time increasing the rate by 10-20 individuals per 1 m2.

Planted among cucumbers are plants that repel ticks: calendula, parsley, garlic, mint, onion, wormwood, etc.

Agrotechnical

  • Alternating plantings of cucumbers with tomatoes, since mites do not develop on tomatoes. That is, if too many mites have developed on cucumbers in a garden or greenhouse and you can’t get rid of them, next year tomatoes should be planted in this place. Since mites do not live on tomatoes, they will completely disappear in a season;
  • Timely weeding and proper care of plants: watering, fertilizing, loosening the soil, removing old leaves, etc.;
  • Planting with a significant distance between plants to make it difficult for ticks to move. It is better to alternate beds with cucumbers with beds on which other crops will grow. In this case, if ticks start on one of the beds, the others will not suffer. At a close location, all cucumbers can be infected in a short time;
  • Cleaning a greenhouse or garden in the fall from all garbage, rags, plant residues that must be burned. In addition, a greenhouse or hotbed can be disinfected, for example, with the help of sulfur checkers FAS or Climate;
  • Deep digging of the soil, preferably in the autumn;
  • The creation of high humidity (80% and above), for plants it is considered optimal, and for ticks - unfavorable;
  • Examine plants for mites.

Agrotechnical methods are the best prevention of infection of cucumbers with mites, as it is better to avoid the appearance of these arachnids. This is due to the fact that if they are wound up, it is very difficult to get rid of them.

Note.

Spider mites easily get used to and adapt to almost all poisons.

The complexity of the fight against ticks is also due to the fact that:

  • They are not immediately noticeable;
  • Females lay eggs within 4 days of emergence;
  • Ticks are able to adapt to chemicals;
  • High reproduction rate.

Spider mite on cucumbers: we deduce once and for all

How many pests encroach on the gardener's cucumber crop, an eye and an eye is needed to collect juicy fruits. One of the main enemies of cucumber plantings is not visible to the ordinary eye, you can only see it with a magnifying glass, but it can do a lot of trouble. This is a spider mite that feeds on the juice of cucumber leaves. Foliage damaged by insects turns yellow, dries up and falls off.

How to recognize a spider mite

The spider mite is microscopic in size, it is impossible to notice it. As a rule, only traces of insect activity are visible. With the mass settlement of pests, the leaves of the vegetable are damaged. The tick multiplies rapidly, capturing more and more leaf blades. The leaves, devoid of juice, change green to lemon, wither, and then fall off. For a couple of weeks, the mite is able to leave only stems on the garden bed, while the soil will be littered with withered leaves.

To recognize the pest, you need to turn the sheet upside down. A cobweb and black dots will be noticeable on it - traces of the activity of the pest. With a strong lesion, petioles and internodes will be shrouded in cobwebs.

If you look at the affected leaves through a magnifying glass, you can see the pest itself, insects look like microscopic spiders.

Spider mite appears mainly in greenhouses. The most comfortable atmosphere for him is a closed poorly ventilated space with dry hot air. It turns out that greenhouses and greenhouses for him are a real expanse.

How to create unfavorable conditions for spider mites

The spider mite is quite tenacious, and if the conditions in which cucumbers grow are not changed, it will appear on plants again and again, even with repeated treatments, which, by the way, can also be carried out not the whole season.

Pest treatments are completed two weeks before fruit picking.

It should be borne in mind that cucumbers bear fruit all season, so it turns out that they can be processed with ready-made means only until the first decade of June, the rest of the time you need to use folk remedies, and even better, create conditions that are uncomfortable for the life of the pest.

Basically, the mite settles in greenhouses, its presence in the beds is a rare case. In the garden, as additional moisture, there is natural rain and precipitation, which the tick does not like at all.

In greenhouses, complete calm reigns, and there is no precipitation, except for irrigation, which is to the liking of the spider mite.

To get rid of pests, spraying is carried out two weeks after planting seedlings of cucumbers or sowing in the ground. They process not only plants, but also walls, ground and roof.

Spraying is carried out even if the pests are clearly invisible. This will help in the future to prevent massive damage to the leaves.

In addition to spraying, barrels of water are placed in greenhouses, additional containers with water are placed, and plants are sprayed on the leaves.

To prevent the appearance of a spider mite, I examine the plants that sit in the corners of the greenhouse. They are the first to be attacked by pests.

How to get rid of spider mites on cucumbers: folk and ready-made remedies

What to do if, despite all the measures, the spider mite still became an uninvited guest on cucumbers?

From the pest, ready-made remedies are used, such as:

  • Karbofos, actara or actellik;
  • Flumite has perhaps the longest protection after application, it works up to 6 weeks;
  • Envidor can also be used in wet weather, it is resistant to washing off, excellent for processing cucumbers in open ground;
  • Kleshchevit kills pests after 7 - 10 hours.

Do not forget to use gloves and a respirator during treatments, and then thoroughly wash your hands and face with soap and change clothes.

As an alternative to ready-made products, I also use folk solutions for spraying cucumbers from spider mites.

In the fight against spider mites, the joint use of ready-made and folk solutions for spraying is mandatory. Means based on chemistry are applicable only before the flowering of plants, after that they use biological solutions so that the fruits do not absorb chemical elements.

From the spider mite I prepare the following ecological solutions:

  • A solution of garlic is indispensable and affordable: 50 g of crushed cloves are poured over the floor with a liter of water, mixed thoroughly, sealed tightly and left to infuse. After a day, I filter, breed in a bucket of water and spray cucumbers. I cultivate the soil under them, as well as the walls;
  • A solution with hot pepper slices is also good. You can use fresh or dried. I cook in the same proportions as the garlic solution;
  • If there is tobacco dust at hand, I spray it on the leaves, first douse them with water;
  • A solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide also copes well with pests, I dilute one spoonful in a liter of water and spray it.

All biological treatments must be repeated after 3-5 days in order to destroy new generations of pests that have emerged from the eggs.

After the treatments, I close the greenhouse so that the drug acts more efficiently and the pests do not have access to fresh air. I prefer to carry out such treatments in cloudy weather and in the morning, on such days I keep the greenhouse completely closed.

Before proceeding with the treatments, the fallen leaves are collected and burned. They contain part of the pests and oviposition.

How to increase humidity in a greenhouse

To protect cucumbers from spider mites, I take care of increasing the humidity in the greenhouse immediately after planting. To do this, I place basins, buckets, deep bowls between the plants and fill them with water. This method performs several functions at once: it increases the humidity in the greenhouse, which cucumbers like so much, creates uncomfortable conditions for the spider mite, and increases the temperature in the greenhouse.

Be sure to put barrels of water in the corners of the greenhouse, they also humidify the air and give me warm water for watering cucumbers, which is very convenient.

If there is a tile in the greenhouse, it is good to water it with water on hot days. you can lay out linoleum in the boundary, bending its edges in the form of a trough and pour water in the heat. You can place linoleum troughs in the boundary, but then you need to walk on them with caution, or you can place them between plants. So that the edges of the linoleum do not move apart, I fasten them with a construction stapler.
